To many Penangnites, I am sure with the restaurant name like Tao Authentic Asian Cuisine that offer buffet range, that have 3 outlets spread accross 2 in Penang and 1 in Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara KL (click here) and now this restaurant chain have opened up another new concept which is rather interesting that located in Penang Times Square called Yea Japanese BBQ & Shabu Shabu Buffet.

One of the reason that visited this buffet was my dad saw some blogger post that circulate in email and he had been asking us to come for the past 2 months since it had open till now we decided to come along.

It is very interesting to see how the whole new concept that they have build to another brand with very Japanese exterior and interior. ..

You can be seated in a few sections, this is a private room that can host up to 10 pax and you have to remove your shoes and put outside.

this section would be their outdoor area. . .

as me and my family was quickly seated, I walk around the whole restaurant to check out what is there to offer.

The range of food that they offer is pretty interesting. One of the best is not to miss on their homemade, fish, sotong and pork ball. . .

Fresh Oyster, Salmon with huge piece, scallop are all in this fridge for you to finish. Another fridge with lots types of seafood, for you to choose from.

This would be the best section to me with variety of meat to offer. I have tried all the meat and those lamb, lean pork, pork bacon, korean style pork are the one you must look out for. . .

Soft drinks counter and you just need to request a glass with ice in it.

Desert counter.

Variety of sauces available as one of the reason that, you are going to mix and learn to cook on the on with their grill charcoal stove on your table.

ice cream that alot of kids attack on.

We ask on the waiter what soup is good and he recommend that most customer would opt to try their signature soup which is the clear soup base ‘Shabu Shabu’ (昆布柴魚湯)

In your table you will be provided with this utilities for you to play with . .

My meat plate..wakkaka~ and more that I have had till my parents surrender.

What is so unique about this whole new concept is that they have this charcoal grill stove smack right in the table for you to bbq your dish. Most of the meat or things available are already pre marinated and now you will look like a cool Japanese chef in training.

put all the item that you would want on this grill and just turn around as you want.

You can put your huge chunk of salmon, prawns and other seafood to cook along.

Huge scallop to be stim on ..

and this is what happen to our pot of shabu shabu, as my mom loves it.

Each table will come with all these few basic ingredients, one of the reason if you do dine in Teppanyaki restaurant you see those chef add on those pepper and salt, now you are your own chef to do it and play around with these to make your food tastier.

This are the Opening promotion that they have now, and if you can really eat and do not mind getting fat, join their Supper happy hour which is Buy one Buffet at Regular Price and 2nd person 50% which is really worth it.

Among many buffet out there, certainly I am recommending this to go with its price smack on at RM48++ that comes to about RM55 per head that offer lots of seafood and meat for you to eat on. Having great sessions with friends I am looking forward to come back for another round.

Food taste is pretty good and did not disappoint us.

Best advice to call in for reservation that will convenient you.

***Remark you need to spend at least 2 hours to eat cuz of the grill time it takes to cook. Me and my family find that 2 hours is not enough cuz we went for late lunch as they were to close for that hour.

-= KA CHING =-

Food rating 8.5/10 , Pretty value for money~ RECOMMENDED -Stamped-

-WARNING –This is based on my individual taste. Try it at your own risk-

This is their current promotion, a steam boat buffet spread offering at RM 32.80 ++ that we paid about RM43 to be nett and certainly worth every penny, although we had not become a big eater but we are satisfied with the price paid and the offerings in the buffet spread!

Certainly its a recommended buffet by me and while promo ends ( I have no idea when it ends, so just eat it while its still on promo). We are planning to go again. Who wants to join?

Just be there early, to enjoy the full spread of the buffet menu~

Anyone of you can think one of the best Japanese buffet spread available or to recommend? This is the constant question I got asked by my friends as they know I always hunt for food. Well, one of the restaurant I can remember was this restaurant Jogoya which offers a huge Japanese Fushion Buffet that located on the top floor of Starhill. My last dining experience in this restaurant was 3 years ago where Jogoya was the most popular buffet spread available that often customer are spoilt with their huge selection, which I think offer more than 100 types of dishes.

In Jogoya, if you are a VIP member, you get to try out some special food selection compare to other normal diners as they reward more exclusive range that will be given a certain numbers of special receipt to clip on and drop to the bowl.

As 3 years ago, this restaurant also offer one of the finest quality in buffet spread as overall they fare pretty well. As time pass, I wanted to visit this place again, alot people told me that their standard drop had then stop me from re-visiting not until recently, friends came down from Penang and requested that they wanted to dine in here. So, here we go again on coming here enjoying this buffet.

This round I am not going to write alot but to spam alot of pictures on what is available in this restaurant.

Their interior design of the place is very cozy, filled with hard cement flooring, filled with wooden chairs and tables… Dim orange lights are shine towards each individual tables that provide you a cozy dining experience.

Let’s head what is available in the store:

always in Japanese food, the first section that every one will attack is this sashimi area which filled with lots of raw food.

Fresh Oyster. . .

When you are in downtown shopping, in Pavilion, there are something new for you guys to explore is the newly renovated Tokyo Street located on the 6th floor in Pavilion. Its a section that house many Japanese eateries, Japanese products and some house hold goods for you to explore. After they have open quite a while, this is my first time being here. . . .

Under this section, the whole area is filled with Japanese ambiance with their look and feel of all those outlets.

The outlets that are in the middle section are all mostly build with Japanese wooden concept, and lanterns at the side of the shop.

Most of the restaurant here sell fusion food . ..

Japanese Desert – Mochi Sweets.

Another Japanese Restaurant .. .

As for this round, we are trying out this outlet that offer buffet spread which is Suki-Ya : Eat all you can Sukiyaki & Shabu Shabu, which is more like a Japanese Steamboat. . .

The ambiance is not bad that is pretty well design that if you come in big group they can combine all the tables for you in one section.

Sauce wise is pretty limited in selection . . .

Healthy bar that offer a good selection’s of greens to be put into shabu shabu . .

There are only 3 choices of soup available, Shabu-Shabu which is more like a clear soup and I heard the table next to me mention that the soup is tasteless. . .then we opt for Sukiyaki and Kimchi Soup.

Among the 3, Sukiyaki is the best as the taste of the soy is pretty strong which reflects to the original taste I had before, not too salty and its quite aromatic. . Recommended among those 3. . For Kimchi, under Japanese restaurant.. not as good as you tried in those Korean restaurant. So close one eye .. .

Then on the paper they teach you all the steps how do you do the best shabu shabu out ..

We opt for the healthy options and pour everything in . . .

Then you get free flow of thin slice, Lamb, Beef and Chicken . . .The best of all is Lamb follow by Chicken then Beef as the beef slice I find it taste funny or we rate it as a low grade beef slice!

For beef slice, its pretty simple and quick that you just take a slice and dip it for about 10 seconds then its done . .

Then we had the sauce as the Sesame sauce is GOOD that you must request and normally I eat most of my food with their special homemade chili sauce.. A bit sour, chopped with lots of garlic and a bit spicy, that pair well with all the meat that I have. ..

My friend taught that, take a raw egg and stir it well, then after the meat had cook, dip it and eat along with any sauce it just perfect!

Then would let you finish off with Ice cream . .

The service here is good as they have alot of staff on duty and our slices of meet constantly got refill and the best part is the manager drop by and ask you, do you want more refill which we had raise white flag as this would be the first time that the staff ask do you want more!

For a price like this, I would say its a buffet spread that worth a try as it only allow you to enjoy 2 hours dinning which is far more than enough.

I might have been selfish in sharing food places at times or another way to say it, I have forgotten to blog about it till I look thru my old folder. If you are craving for Japanese food yet you are a bit tight in pocket? well, there is this place I went so often with my ex-colleague and friends, is this Nihon Kai, Japanese Restaurant located at Old Klang Road which is a hidden gem in the area.

For this post, you might think I am being lazy, reason is I have lost this receipt and its a combine pictures of many occasions I went there.

The shop is very hidden but yet they enjoy brisk business for lunch and dinner. One of the reason they are always full is their generous portion of serving at economic price.

There are 2 levels in the shop that mostly cater for 2 – 4 pax and if you have bigger group you will be seated upstairs. .

So during my last week in my ex company, they did a farewell for me in this restaurant again, we book the whole tatami section . . .

It has been quite a while since I last step into Gurney Plaza on its basement level that filled mostly with F&B outlets. Last round when I went back, while accompany my friend shopping my friend suggested this shop that its pretty good. To me, its like another new shop!

Seeing this place so pack on odd hours as in 3pm and its still full house, then told my friend no problem, lets go especially anything with Ramen which is one of my favourite.

There are quite a number of Ramen to choose from and price of it are pretty reasonable. Most of the Ramen selection I would say a bit in fushion style.

Sze Chuan Dan Dan Ramen @ RM 11.80 that usual will served with lots of peanuts in the noodle, soup taste a bit spicy and thick.

Compare to another choice, the rest of us prefer Ramen with Sze Chuan Soup @ RM 11.80. Love the taste of it, sour more than spicy also soup its a bit thick and starchy that comes to my liking. Recommended~

I have eaten quite many Shanghai Steamed Dumpling and find that for the price of RM 5.50 which will be very precent compare to alot other restaurant. Skin might be slightly thicker compare to the others, soup base in it and texture of the meat is good!

I could say that, I certainly do not mind to return to this shop again to try out other of its range.

-= Ka Ching =-

Food Rating 7/10, quite okay, for a outlet like this~ ~-Stamped-

–Warning– This is based on my individual taste. Try it at your own risk-

Do you all still remember the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan few months ago that it had affected one of their nuclear reactor till the Jap government at taking high safety precautions on that. AS I am a big fan of Japanese food, during that time I get to discover that actually there are a few ports that export their fresh seafood ingredient to other parts of the world and which I get to know and explain by a few Japanese restaurant during that time was, most of the restaurant in Malaysia their ingredient is import through the southern port at japan which the quake hit wayyyyy up in the north whereby the nuclear reactor is located up there too.

For me, I cannot just think like last time tsunami hit Acheh does that mean the whole Indonesia is in trouble? usually nope which is just affected a small part of town and people assume is the whole country. For me I still support Japanese food as that time the TVB series that show alot on Sushi had made my crave for it alot, I still eat it too. Now, next in the line is Kin Shui Tei Japanese Restaurant which is located inside of Tropicana Golf Club.

Start off with one of my favourite Cold Sake which is very mild in taste, easy to drink and smooth. It doesnt taste very strong in alcohol yet the the more you drink and the after effect will be like wine, you wont feel the kick in many glasses, once kicks in, you will be in another world. .

Deep Fried Shrimps then you squeeze with lemon to make it a bit sourish, and let it soak for a while into the crispy fried shrimps then its good!

Edamame is not one of my preference, I just go along as it is boil in hot water then add on with a bit of salt to bring up the taste a bit.

Seasonal Anago Tempura – with Deep fried sea eel with Japanese tempura style with crunchy vegetables.

Special Hokkaido Chirashi Sushi @ RM98

Combination of a few fresh ingredient in sashimi and I can say that every piece that put into my mouth I am enjoying every bits of it, that the sashimi is super fresh.

Beef tofu Katsu Don @ RM38

Everytime when comes a dish with tofu, most of them will just stuff it infront of me first saying that being taufulou you must eat your own first -_-“”””. . . . The tofu is very soft, fried well on the edge on the skin with egg coated abit that makes it aromatic and eat along with fragrant rice, just perfect.

This is the first time I tried out this Smoked Ayu as was told is a sweet fish, while I use my chopstick to poke through it, doesnt seem like a fresh fish cuz a bit sold, but when put inside my mouth, the aroma just burst, with sweetness and fresshness of it. GOOD!@ RM55

Lamb rib steak with homemade special sauce @ RM50

Teppan Seafood Special @ RM98

Seafood Kimuchi Udon @RM39

When I tried this, I was like, eh, izint that this is kimchi, and how come Japanese restaurant serve Korean food ah, well, I just eat it, which is their kimchi is homemade and the taste is nice and I just love mine to be more spicy then it would taste even better, the texture of udon is just nice, not too soft yet it is springy.

As human being, we always take safety precious over the food from that country to avoid the best rather than purposely go find fault, as time pass during the event, people concern grew over food safety and Kin Shui Tei is one of the first restaurant in Malaysia to prove to their customer that they are actually radioactive free by scanning from this high tech device that they bought from US which previously US reluctant to sell it to Malaysia because its no need and not affected.

for a human to have a side effect on the radio active which will need at least reading of 100,000 and above and anything less than 20,000 is harmless. . . As some customer is scared of the food and will ask where does your product come from, and when mention from Japan they will ask safe or not, then will prove to them by using this device.

For Kin Shui Tei to serve even better they have import their ingredient from different parts of the world such as rice from USA, scallops and salmon from Norway, Tuna from Indonesia, Unagi from Taiwan and the list goes on.

It is definately safe to dine in here as all their food had went through extreme check if the item come from Japan. For me, where every there is good food, I will just go hunt . .

Jaya One is famous for food destination with variety of food to choose from . . You name it from Korea, Jap, Spanish, Mexician and many other more with their own signature food to impress from. Since then constantly to hunt food at Jaya One, one of the first stop that I see many blogger blogged bout is Kissaten Coffee and Restaurant.

Located inside the heart of Jaya One, you need to climb up the stair case to go up.

nice and modern interior that have indoor and outdoor. Do avoid come here on lunch time as they are packed with people, especially indoor area.

By flipping through their menu, all the pictures in it are sure impressive that are nicely take with all also look so delicious.

One drink that my colleague order ‘Bittergourd + Cucumber Drink’ @ RM 8.90 I was like.. yewwww. . . geli! Then when it was served, the whole greeney thing is like near pure blend of ingredient and you might not like the taste of it, its either you love it or hate it. I quite like its surprisingly very refreshing that we need it under this hot weather.

As I Order my set lunch, it served along with ‘Fried Gyoza’

One of my favourite from Kissaten is when I found out they have a small kitchen in Lot 10 Hutong that they really served big portion of this Pork Terriyaki Burger @ RM 10.90 which is certainly a great value and decided to give it a try again at this outlet. .

Well, it did not disappoint me, with well grill pork burger and sweet teriyaki sauce, and cut through the egg, the egg yolk just oozeee out . .

Miso RaMen @ RM 18.90 set lunch served with gyoza and green tea

Char Siew Pizza as first glance it doesn’t impress me, when my colleague said give it a try, turn out to be good. Well cook in the oven and the dressing at the base of pizza turns out to be nice topped with the melted cheese. RM 23.90

Quite some time ago, me and my friend were lost and do not know what to eat while at Mid Valley, most of the time I can think of is only Kim Gary, Delicious or a few of my favourite then I saw this new shop opened and decided to give it a try.

The whole ambiance had attracted me to in as softly lit with orange dim lights around the area with Japanese like paper light box is a very comfy . . . .

In the menu, it is more like a Japanese Fushion food and all the pictures in the menu attracted me alot and I wanted to test most of it.. Too bad there were only 2 of us ..

Normally green tea to start off with and in their menu they do have quite unique range of drinks to go after. . . Mine is not normal green tea it is ‘Green Tea Sugar Cane’ and its my favourite drink in the shop. Not too sweet in sugar cane taste and aroma of green tea is there. . .loving it. . RM 3.80

I forgot what name is this dish i think its hotplate chicken katsudon . .

IT is abit soupy on the base with hot plate boiling then pour on an egg then stir it in.. . filled with a bit salty taste goes on very well . . .

Then followed by ‘Teppanyaki Pork Mayo Fried Rice’ @ RM 14.80, pork pan grill till its just nice not too soft and chewy, n the sauce is well coated to the meat . .. goes along with rice is perfect combination . .

Then my order came ‘Spicy Pork Mayo Ramen’ and just by the surface with the smell of it, I just cant wait to use my chopstick poke poke thru the noodle and slurp it up into my mouth. Just as I expected with the kind of soup base that I have long search for, not too salty, just peftect in taste, abit clear in soup and spiciness is at the end with springy Ramen which is not over cook. Just Perfect to my likings as I miss it when I was at Melbourne. The portion might look small but the portion is just nice to fit myself and gives me satisfaction. RM 14.80

After the first try, I went couple of times with my friend and the quality is there and most of the time I forgot to bring my camera along that turns out this picture was taken few months back and decided to blog bout it now . . If you do not know what to eat in Mid Valley, this is one of the recommended shop from me as it is now one of my favourite Japanese Fushion shop. .
