Proof Pizza + Wine is my final piece of eatery in order to complete my list in there at APW Bangsar KL Decided to pay them a visit after a while after heard some good feedback about them.

Proof (2)

Eatery in here is indeed in small scale but it is indeed very nice. The only set back for Proof is that, the wood fire smell is very strong in the whole restaurant. After you come out from the place, you indeed smells like you are the chef.

Proof (5)

Proof (3)

Proof (4)

Proof (6)

Menu is very straight forward as Pizza is their strong hold.

Proof (7)

Since there are two of us and my friend celebrating my birthday lunch, so we had it simple. 1 Starter, 1 pizza and a bottle of nice wine to kicks in.

Proof (8)

Starter – Pear & Mesclun – pomegranate, feta cheese, toasted pecans, honey lemon lavender dressing @ RM 25 . Very simple salad that make it to perfection. With crunch everybite and hint of nice aroma of lavender honey is just perfect.

Proof (9)

Ordered one of their signature – Umbrian – Black Truffle Pizza @ RM 35 (8 inch) – mixed mushroom, black truffle paste, taleggio. Looks small but the aroma of truffle trailing the air is amazing. Not too strong but nice enough to entice your taste bud. Love the oozing soft cheese and indeed a perfect bite. Finish the whole slice myself.

Proof (10)

Indeed it is a nice pizza place if you do not mind to dig into your pocket slightly deeper. Great range of wine selection.

Portofino is one of a hidden gem in Lucky Garden, Bangsar. Although they sits right at the corner with very big prominent signage, this restaurant actually serve authentic Italian food.

Portofino (1)

Portofino (2)

Portofino (3)

It is a very spacious dining restaurant with comfortable seating area and space in between to have your privacy.

Portofino (4)

Portofino (5)

Portofino (6)

We were introduce with something classic and simple to start off with – Carpaccio di Manzo – Australian grass fed chilled tenderloin carpaccio served with rocket salad, cherry tomato, parmigiano Reggiano, fresh button mushrooms, lemon wedge and toasted bread @ RM 28

Portofino (7)

Next is Carpaccio di Salmone – Slice of Norwegian smoked salmon served with romaine lettuce, black lives, carrots, fresh orange slices, toasted bread with an in house dressing @ RM 28

Portofino (8)

I have learnt to enjoy this along the way as Bruchetta Toascana is one of my favourite. Toasted Bread with Chicken Liver Pate where the pate is just nice, not too thick with strong chicken liver smell and they have some seasoning to balance it out. Loving it. @ RM 12 – Recommended

Portofino (9)

Learnt that, all their pasta are made fresh daily, as we kick off our mains with Capelli d’AngeloAngle hair green pasta sauteed with garlic, chili flakes, cherry tomatoes, basil, extra virgin olive oil, fresh prawns and zucchini @ RM 38. Something classic with a hint of spiciness.

Portofino (12)

Spaghetti Portofino @ RM 38 – homemade seafood spagheti sauteed in olive oil, garlic, chili, basil, prawns, squid, baby octopus, mussles, clams, scallops in fresh home made fish stock

Portofino (10)

This is one of my favourite in one of the mains. Gnocchi al Gorgonzolapotato dumplings served with combination of cream, gorgonzola cheese, mushrooms and grilled marinated slices of chicken @ RM 36. Gnocchi is done to perfection where it is soft enough yet not overcook, with a little hint of strong cheese taste like blue cheese is just perfect to make the dish stand out. Creamy enough to my liking for a portion for myself, I guess some of you might want to share as the cream might be too thick for you.

Portofino (11)

Too much cooking show, so whenever in a Italian restaurant – Risotto is a must order for me. So I pick Risotto ai Funghiwith porcini mushrooms served with grilled marinated chicken. Cook to perfection where risotto is not over cook yet with grains texture is there and the stock cook in it do enhance the sweetness of the taste.  @ RM 36

Portofino (13)

Coscia di Pollo alla Diavola @ RM 36 – Grileld boneless chicken leg, marrinated with paprika, black pepper, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, served with colour mix of sauteed vegetable

Portofino (14)

Agnello in Umido @ RM 48 – imported lamb slow braised in oven fire with mushroom and Italian herbs till tender cooked. Served in lamb reduction gravy and mashed potato. A portion that worth to order and share as the mash is so good, soft and airy. With lamb is so soft, tender and juicy.

Portofino (15)

Back to classic too with Pizza Napoletana – Tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, anchovies, black olives, capers and cheery tomato @ RM 34. Something simple to dive into and must eat with their chef special homemade chili sauce. It is not Tabasco but its one of a awesome sauce, mild spicy with a bit fragrant of herbs. The chef to sell it too. As you finish up the pizza, you will be greeted with classic pizza ingredients at the end.

Portofino (16)

Portofino (17)

Love their housewine pouring too. If your friends are not keen to drink, you can order by glasses. They use Chilean wine.

Portofino (18)

Love their Pannacotta as it is so wobbly like a jelly dancing if you shake the plate. @ RM 14, Soft texture, fragrant with the panna cotta that just melts in your mouth. love it.

Portofino (19)

Creme Brulee @ RM 16

Portofino (20)

Among those that we ordered, this is my favourite. Tiramisu – made with coffee, almond liqueur combined with mascarpone cheese @ RM 16. One of the best that I can find . Creamy enough with the best is still moist where mascaropone cheese taste is still prominent and cocoa powder still can be tested. A well balance of taste and a Must order!

Little did I know that this place had change so much, what I mean is Faber Tower. This place had a total revamp and now house so many F&B along with a fitness center and a supermarket. It was a recent discovery that my friends invited me over for a dinner treat and decided to meet up at Macaroni Food & Coffee located inside this Faber Tower at Taman Bukit Desa. I must say this place is a hidden gem for Italian food in this neighborhood.

macoroni (1)

Walking into this new revamp building, you will see a very obvious outlet that is super pack with diners and at times you might see a line during peak hours.

macoroni (2)

Love the interior of this place as it does look like that use recycle material to build it up from their cushion structure, chairs and lighting.

macoroni (3)

macoroni (4)macoroni (5)

macoroni (6)

Their range of food is is huge and price might be slightly expensive.

macoroni (7)

macoroni (8)

Start off with their Wild Mushroom Soup @ RM 15. decent enough as it is blended with shimeiji mushroom, cream and sprinkle with chives. Flavour is well balance and texture is not what I am expecting which is a little chunks and pieces however, this version which is slightly soupy with finely blend is good for me too.

macoroni (8.0)

Since we are so hungry while waiting for others, we got their bites Sweet Potato Fries @ RM 15. Portion wise is pretty big and sweet potato is pretty good.

macoroni (10)

Meat Lover Pizza @ RM 28 serve with pepperoni, turkey ham, beef salami, bolognaise sauce, mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Was told the dough is made fresh daily and it is acceptable for me, soft and slightly fluffy, yet very generous with amount of cheese.

macoroni (11)

macoroni (12)

Keen to try on their pasta, therefore we order Trio Pasta Platter that serve with – Fettucine mushroom alfredo, spaghetti prawn aglio alio, macaroni pesto cream sauteed with garlic, extra virgin olive oil, basil, italian parsley and paramesan cheese @ RM 35.

macoroni (13)

They did not serve me another menu and the waitress ask us to order chef special Lamb Cutlets. Usually I would not order as not many chef do know how to prepare it. However this is impressive as serve with a portion that out of our expectation. 5 pieces of lamb cutlets and all cook to perfection. Medium. Well marinated, and dip with their rosemary sauce is just perfect. One of the best that I. – Recommended!

macoroni (14)

Pretty good food in this neighborhood. Price might be sligtly expensive but it is worth to give it a try.

It was at the giving up point where a gathering took place at this shop then swing back here to check them out.

Hello (2)

According to some article, the kitchen is flanked with Malaysian chefs Johnny Fua & Sherson Lian which is quite well known to many people.

Hello (4)

Hello (5)

Hello by Kitchen Mafia menu, it looks like a combination of Italian and local food.

Hello (6)

Find it a bit weird where they do charge service charge but then you have to order at counter yet the serve the food to you. Maybe can we pay half of the service charge as the service is only half way through?

Hello (7)

Hello (9)

While waiting for the two crazy friends, start off with Tiger beer that serve in a bowl instead of a cup that mark the classic style of drinking and wine range here is not bad and consider reasonable too.

Hello (10)

One of their signature entree to start off with is their Duck Jerky @ RM 10 . Taste is alright as I find it nothing fantastic however this is one of their best seller. Do check it out yourself.

Hello (11)

This would be the special highlight from my end, as this Pulled Beef Slider @ RM 10 where I think it is pack with flavors, unique in taste as it covers sourness from marinated onions and with some herbs and spice. Worth to try out.

Hello (12)

Their Spaghetti is served in classic version. Spaghetti is cook to al dante. We had Italian Carbonara Duck Bacon  @ RM 18, Vongole @ RM 24 & Salted Egg Butter Milk @ RM 28

Hello (14)

Hello (15)

Pak Johnny Mee Rebus did capture my attention as it had been a while since I enjoy mee Rebus and decided to give it a try.

Hello (16)

At RM14.00 which is slightly overprice yet I love the aroma of the soup, creamy and smooth. I like the taste too.

Hello (17)

Hello (18)

We ended up by ordering their homemade Tuak from a Sarawakian family with 3 months old. Easy to drink and I find it quite cheap as filled in a normal drinking bottle in a cafe at the price of RM 55.

It is a mix review from diners as some say it good some say it on par. For me it is decent enough.

Hello by Kitchen Mafia Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

When my best friend drop by in KL before heading back to Penang for preparation on his wedding, manage to have dinner with the rest of the group and some of them havent seen them quite a while. Then text him, where for dinner and he insisted I must dine at his hotel area whereby Prego Italian restaurant is one of his favourite restaurant. I have no doubt in his taste because when I was in Sydney, he brought me to all his favourite place and all are top notch.

prego (1)

Prego is one of the restaurant located at Ground Floor of Westin as we enter the restaurant I am surprise to see its pretty full for such restaurant on weekdays. Knowing the capacity, surely this place wont turn out in disappointed. Then only found out that they are one of a award winning restaurant. One of it is  “Best Italian Restaurant” in KL by Time Out KL for a few years

prego (2)

Classy interior with dim lights all the way, greetings from friendly staff  as you reach the entrance . ..

prego (3)

prego (4)

prego (5)

For smokers, you can opt to be seated outside and they have a coffee and cocktail bar for you ready outside to place your order.

prego (6)

I find the pricing in this fine dine area, is pretty decent. Selection of food is pretty much the same with any other types of Italian dining. (Full Menu, click here)

prego (7)

Then we were greeted by their homemade complimentary bread with tomato dip. It was gone in seconds, that the bread is warm and the dip just pair very well with the bread. We requested for another round of bread. 😀

prego (8)

One of the recommendations from my friend that he will never miss whenever he dine at this restaurant is Mushroom Risotto @ RM 52. Pack with flavours and its quite thick and creamy. It was cook to perfection, with the cheese melted and texture light sticky as it is suppose to be. We ended up order another portion. – Highly recommended!

prego (9)

Oxtail Rivioli as my another mischievous friend called it high class wantan. Light gravy sauce shower upon the rivioli and the @ RM 52

prego (11)

Braised Lamb Shank are decent as braised till the meat is soft and risotto at the bottom is too soft to my liking. @ RM 73

prego (12)

Another super star is Lasagne. Love the soft texture of layer in between that is not too thick, beef and tomato that is cook along is awesome! Highly recommended! @ RM 56

prego (13)

Saleme Pizza @ RM 49

prego (15)

This was our first round, and second round we went to Luna Bar for a drink, then they have third round that I did not follow  . ..

I would surely return for more, and its a perfect place to dine during any special occasion here.

Being being a food hunter is my passion and looking at the F&B industries in Penang had certainly grown to another new level, with more concept restaurant are pumping up. One of the latest restaurant that had hit the shores of Penang that started operating about 2 months back is this newly Authentic Italian Restaurant at Via Pre that I can say operate and own by expatriate Italians.

via pre (1)

The shops are easily to be located as its opposite QE2 or next to British Council building. Painted in white like heritage building and at night, its well light up. Just beware that they do not have a big signage on the building and you have to drive slowly to locate the place as its at a small corner turning.

via pre (2)

Via Pre had attracted many people to visit this place and I think this would be the first Italian restaurant that offer Authentic Italian Cuisine. For those who have not tried the actual Italian food, this definitely would be one of the place to visit!

via pre (3)

via pre (4)

Love the interior design . . as the whole design is pretty much reflect on the typical Italian design and as Italian restaurant I am amaze of their wine range that they are offering and I am very keen to try out Italian wine.

via pre (5)

via pre (6)

via pre (7)

Love their cake counter that it had been a while since I have last enter this kind of restaurant, the last one was during my study period in Melbourne and definitely enjoy it here now.

One of my friend told me that, these restaurant imported most of the ingredients as what they are trying to cook are unable to source locally.

via pre (8)

via pre (9)

via pre (10)

via pre (11)

One advice, as Penang people do not like to do reservation, it is highly advise to do your reservation as its always full during dinner and it is gaining its popularity.

via pre (13)

via pre (14)

via pre (15)

Price are very reasonable that its not too expensive.

via pre (16)

I look at the beer range and find that the waiter recommend me to try on  Birra Menabrea an Italian beer, and my my, its one of a true great beer that I enjoy and beats down many beer out there. Very easy to drink, smooth and bubbly need to drink it while its chill, and after taste its sweet and hint of barley oak can be tasted. – Recommended! @RM25

via pre (17)

Then we were serve with a portion of bread which is usual that in Italian dining they will serve you a basket of home made bread with plain and oak of course their traditional eating is dipping the bread along with olive oil and vinegar. Its not like those serve with butter. Find it weird? hehe, learn to enjoy oh~

After looking at the food menu, I do not know what to order as its pretty much in bombastic Italian words and ask the owner to introduce. Then he introduce me special of the day which is not in the menu that they often change it to get the best ingredient and create 2-3 best dishes out for you to enjoy.

As we were pretty full from snacks just now, so decided to leave our order to the hands of the owner by ordering 3 dishes to share.

via pre (18)

For a soup we start off with Zuppa Toscana which is soup of the day with mixture of various types of beans. The taste is light, lean towards a bit sourish from tomato I believe and finely chop beans that bring the taste up. Some of you might not like the taste and texture of it as I find it pretty good. Learn to eat it when I was oversea. @ RM 16

via pre (19)

Since he know we love to try out food, then he recommend us to try out Special Starter that consist of Quiche, Pie and smoked beef slice with special sauce. @ RM 78

Spinach Quiche is superbly good, soft with hint of egg taste and spinach been blended and the crust is warm and crispy. Dip along with the sauce makes it event perfect with a slight sweetness at the end.

Pie is fluffy and cutting it, the tuna base mixture flow out and just enjoy every bite of it.

via pre (20)

Star of the 3 is the smoked beef that is sweet in taste and fresh, yet they pair it with salmon sauce as what we believe it as we were confuse that looking at it is smoked beef and tasting it had a after taste of salmon. A perfect combination!

via pre (21)

To eat back something authentic that I have pretty miss is Tortellini Special for the night, as usually these cant be eaten much as it is pretty filling and the ingredient they stuff in are with some mushrooms and meat. Pretty simple and flavourful.

As a food lover, I surely enjoy my meal tonight and looking forward to go back to try out their other range like spaghetti, pizza and specialty. I believe many of you would not enjoy the taste of it as this is pretty much towards Authentic Italian taste which the taste is not localize. Therefore, for those of you love are looking for authentic Italian Cuisine, Via – Pre certainly is the place I am highly recommending in Penang.

Service is very attentive even though its super busy for the night, staff are very friendly even though they are foreigners, and if you do encounter bad service experience, just give them a break as they just operating just for 2 months. Alot of things to fine tune and I believe they never expect it to be fully house most of the night.
