Heard about this Hong Kong FeiFan Hotpot Buffet offer quite a good value meal that a hotpot buffet starts from RM 35.90+ for lunch and RM 45.90+ for dinner at Kiara 163 Retail Park, Mont Kiara. By the price point, it certainly do look like a great deal.

feifan hotpot (1)

Came here to check it out as got a free birthday meal from my brother, so instead of heading to our favourite Sukiya, we came here to try it out.

Hong Kong Hotpot sure taste slightly different as they have their own style.

My little guest special appearance.

feifan hotpot (2)

An interior which is quite comfy and slightly luxury. I was seated at the far right in the picture and that spot is quite warm.

I wanted mala but my bro’s family dont take spicy so they Ordered Pork Bone Soup and Tomato Soup. Pork bone soup taste is not bad as the longer it cooks, the taste gets better. If you want to something mild sourish then tomato is not too bad.

feifan hotpot (12)

Most of the meat ingredients and dumplings are freshly made, and it is not too bad too. Including some fish noodle that is freshly made.

Overall, for the pricing wise, I totally have no complain as for lunch and a buffet per person is that kind of price. Certainly do not mind to come back again to check out their Malat soup base.

For similiar price point, I would still prefer Japanese style as Sukiya or Mikoshi at Uptown Damansara

If for Hong Kong Steamboat catagory, I would recommended this place.

Recently, one of my Penang friend came down and we arrange a gathering. Instead of heading to our usual favourite Taiwanese Steamboat place, Gods Kitchen @ Publika, we decided to try this place out. The HOTpot in Publika because they do serve vegetarian soup (Miso Soup base) as one of our friend is vegetarian.

The Hotpot (1)

The Hotpot (2)

As walk into the place, it is an interior that is rather simple and direct. With a few tables in place, it is best advise to make a reservation.

The Hotpot (4)

The Hotpot (5)

Looking at the menu, it is slightly expensive. (maybe because they are in Publika)

The Hotpot (6)

Order the double soup base @ RM 38 with any mix of 2 flavours. We chose Malat and their original pork bone soup. As they are Hong Kong Steamboat, taste certainly is slightly milder but the taste of both soup is quite flat.

The Hotpot (7)

Ingredient is pretty direct and simple. The ball series ranges from RM 10 – RM 25Lotus root is a rip off as serve with the illusion looks like a full slice but it is only half. Estimated about 5-7 slices for RM 8.

Cheese Fu chuk @ RM 12. Does not make sense to me as the cheese fu chuk went into the pot and its all gone. Mostly left fu chuk. Maybe we did the wrong way.

The Hotpot (8)

ma lat is not spicy or herby in taste. This soup base is out for us (or could be good for first timer or those who cant take spicy) Pork bone soup is just normal.

The Hotpot (10)

Overall, food is so so, nothing to shout about as it is quite expensive from the ingredient we choose. Worst of all, the set back as below:

1. service were messy as there are only 2 floor staff. Told them to serve the order according to table but came out random
2. Serving us the food that we did not order, told them to bring it back.
3. Charge us the food that the order did not arrive where the waitress said is in their output order receipt.
4. Charge us extra 4 glass of green tea which we only of 9 pax order 7 glass only and each glass of green tea is RM 8, that is additional RM 32++ extra

Just imagine that if you did not check the receipt, you would have been blindly paid extra. My bill came about from RM 580 down to RM 520 which is about near RM 60 per head. Hence Fei Fan Hotpot / Taiwanese Gods pot Hotpot beats this place easily.

the place is actually not bad. and my ratings is actually to give 6/10. With the 4 set backs, the ratings for this outlet will get only 4/10

I am not the right target market for this place.

It seems that now Sunway Velocity is becoming like a mini ChinaTown. It turns out to be alot of China Hotpot is operating in this area and there are more popping up over next few months. I have been to both outlet a few times except Chuan Chuan.

1: Xiao Long Xing Jiang Hu

xiao long kan (4)

Standing tall in the list is this place that stood top in my list. One of the best China Szechuan hotpot in this area or easily top in my ranking at the moment. Love the spiciness, numbness and strong spice flavour for the hotpot. also the ingredients here are quite fresh. (they have changed name and no longer the authentic as they claimed to be)

the only set back will be the price as you order 2 types of soup will easily cost RM 58. So best to come with at least 4 pax.

For some reason, many of my friends mention not to try this outlet out. So this is for you to decide as it is not worth for what you are eating or in a nutshell it is very expensive. Chuan Chuan it means like skewers or I call it our Lok Lok but in China version.

I still remember till today that my first Hokkien Mee in KL was a shocking moment for me with a twist and quarrel with the hawker worker. Hokkien mee in KL is very different from the ones in Penang. Ah Yap Hokkien Mee in Sentul was introduce by a friend that I should give here a try. Apparently this place been operating more than 40 years and from their regular to seem them bringing their customer grandson.

ah yap hokkien mee (17)

Menu is quite extensive as they do have other stir fried dishes. Love the decor of this place as it seems alot of antique to look at. The server which is a old uncle happily explain to me as he had been there for a few moons already.

ah yap hokkien mee (8)

ah yap hokkien mee (9)

ah yap hokkien mee (10)

Some of the antiques are as old as Qing Dynasty. From the table, stool, delivery lunch box, old ginseng and many others.

ah yap hokkien mee (11)

The signature here is their Hokkien Noodle. A style of their own. Topped with loads for pork lard to my liking. It is fresh and crispy. The after taste also quite different as the sauce is slightly more thick, flavourful and pack with wok hei.

ah yap hokkien mee (12)

Not your usual noodle texture as I find this slightly more chewy or springy to my liking.

ah yap hokkien mee (13)

ah yap hokkien mee (15)

This is one of the item must have as I find that the Stir Fried lala is very interesting. Not only it is good but unique with its own taste. You get to taste hint of the chili powder, fragrant mild taste of lime after you squeeze on top of it. Didnt overcook too. Perfect as it is! Squeeze of the lime do really give a slight acidic it needs to balance freshness of it off.

ah yap hokkien mee (16)

find that the Hokkien mee is not bad and I came back a few rounds after that. Worth to give it a try.

Seems that Kepong is filled with quite alot of hotpot or steamboat places. Few months back, friend brought me to this little hidden area in Kepong for steamboat. Popo Steamboat Cafe is operating in a open space area with canopies at the yard. You can easily miss the signboard if you are driving as at the edge of a junction and also slightly uphill.

Popo Steamboat (1)

Popo Steamboat (2)

there are quite a number of soup base to hit on. There are 8 types of soup: Superior Pork Bone soup, Szechuan Peppery soup, Teochew soup (served with fish slices), ABC, vegetarian, Peppery Piggy Stomach Soup, clear and tom yum soup. All of the soups are priced at RM 7 and RM 23. Those of you order clear soup, if is provided for free.

Popo Steamboat (3)

While there are only 3 of us, it seems again that we over order. I was there to eat as the food is pretty much order by my friend. Soup base: Superior Pork Bone Soup and to my surprise it is claypot steamboat which is not your typical version that is with the metal pot.

Popo Steamboat (4)

I am suprise to taste how good the soup is. Slightly thick and pack with flavour and creamy. loving it.

Popo Steamboat (5)

Beef slices here are not too bad as on the local meat quality, I cant comment much and best it is freshly sliced.

Popo Steamboat (6)

As my friend are craving for their fried rice, I must say it is one of a very good plate. Fried to perfection that the grains are filled with wok hei, dry enough that can be counted by each grans, topped with pork lard and ham. – a dish must order.

Popo Steamboat (7)

Love their lamb slices as it is thinly cut

Popo Steamboat (8)

Other ingredient that we usually order which is not too bad.

This will certainly be one of the steamboat in Kepong that I will return because of both pricing and quality.

Beauty In The Pot 美滋锅 at Sky Avenue Genting Highland is making a huge buzz all over the online portals that you can get. Most of the people would purposely travel up to Genting to enjoy this hotpot. Under the cold weather up there and eating hotpot is the most perfect combination.

Only then I realize that this shop is operating under Paradise Group of Restaurants, This hotpot is slightly different from others as they brand themselves as collagen hotpot, where they add in premium ingredients in it to enrich the soup.

A glimpse of the place.

2

Little did I know that they queue is kinda crazy. I reach at 8pm and my number I got in line is another 53 pax in line. Bare in mind that the calculation goes by every 90 minutes per session table. Therefore average waiting time is that. Hence average wait is about 2 hours with least with 50 pax in front of me.

Good note is that the front desk will give you a call when your table is ready. Hence you can stroll and walk around everywhere. But do remember to pick up your call, if not your table will be given to the next patron in line.

1

While waiting in line and you have kids,  they have kids play area for them to run around.

beauty pot (1)

While the assign waiter/waitress for your table, they will make sure your soup is being ordered first and drinks arrive soon.

beauty pot (2)

Order their Signature Pot tea which I would recommend and it is good. Fragrant and unique yet refillable. Another is house plum juice which is also free flow refill.

beauty pot (3)

Love the ambiance of the place as it is with pink sakura theme.

beauty pot (5)

Like most of the China hotpot place, sauces are additional charges and it is at RM 6.80 including fruits. Not too sure how to mix? they have a board on top with guided condiments for you to mix.

beauty pot (4)

There are types of 6 Broth/Soup available for you to choose.  :
1. Beauty Collagen 胶原蛋白养颜美容锅
2. Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn 维他命C番茄玉米锅
3. Herbal Drunken Chicken 养生药膳醉鸡锅
4. Cooling Coconut 清凉解热雪耳椰子锅
5. Spicy Nourishing “Malat” 滋补养身香辣锅
6. Longevity Long Pine Mushroom 长生抗癌松茸野菌锅

You get to choose your soup base from Quart to half or whole single flavour pot. (RM10.00 onward per quart RM60.00+)  as I order mine is Half / Whole @ RM32.00

beauty pot (6)

We pick Spicy Nourishing Malat” 滋补养身香辣锅 is a must have for me then another choice is Beauty Collagen 胶原蛋白养颜美容锅. Find that the soup are quite interesting and it is quite thick in flavour. Especially Beauty Collagen. Indeed it is thick broth and as it is cooked longer, it become thicker and saltier.

Spicy soup is not that spicy as like the one from China, but decent enough for the weather up here and good to those who cant really take spicy.

beauty pot (8)

beauty pot (9)

I thought I could find the menu online I guess it is a bit hard now. Some of the ingredients we order are, signature mix home made balls.

beauty pot (10)

Pig Intestine

beauty pot (11)

Lamb slices and beef slices (Small) estimated RM 25 each

beauty pot (14)

Still prefer my own special mix sauces that had been thought previously by a China guy.

beauty pot (16)

My beef slices which is quite long in a small roll.

beauty pot (17)

At the end of the meal, we are served with Yuzu Ice Blended for digestion.

There’s also a 20% discount from 10.30pm onward, limited to food ingredients only, and excludes soup base, condiments and drinks. (only available from Monday to Thursday)

Overall, for a hotpot such as this and impress with their service. Only pity all the floor staff there as they have to bow 90 degree on each servings finish. Their back must be very strong! A place can explore up there if you are craving for hotpot. I think they are the only restaurant that have outdoor seating area.

As on the way down from Genting, I already gotten very thirsty and have to stop by at the rest area to get a bottle of water. Either it is the effect of MSG or the saltiness of it.

Expect to pay RM 100 – RM 120 per head easily and depending what you are ordering.
