Taiwanese Food

Category

Tropicana is one of my favourite mall for movies based on convinience in parking, much less people and cheaper by 10%. One of the reason its nearer to my house and office. Well, there are actually some eatery in Tropicana that serve pretty decent food that I small little shop that I have dine pretty often is Tuan Yuen that serve Taiwanese food at Lower Ground, same area as Tea Chansii or Carrefour Level.

[UPdate – No Longer in Operation]

Bare in mind that Taiwanese food are mild in taste, not as heavy taste as our local food.

Taiwan (1)

This little shop is a small family business that operate by both the ‘tau keh so’ and her son along with 2 worker. The owner herself is from Taiwan that had migrated to Malaysia and starting up this business to promote Taiwanese food. Since I came back from Taiwan, this is something that is quite near to Taiwan food taste and sadly to say she is tweaking the taste to suits our local taste bud.

Taiwan (2)

Price is pretty decent that starts from RM7.50 and quite a huge range of Taiwanese food that you can choose from.

Taiwan (3)

One of my favourite is the dumpling that you must order, Me and ken love it alot as we find its pretty similiar to Taiwan. Something simple to start off with.

Taiwan (4)

Taiwanese sausage is pretty simple and direct whereby you can eat it in most of the night market . . .

Taiwan (5)

Taiwanese Style Extra spicy Beef Rice @ RM 11.90

Taiwan (6)

One of their signature is this Big Meal Beef Noodle, Extra Spicy @ RM 11.90 that I often order. Colour of the soup gives you the impresion that its not spicy and after a few sips of the soup, it will make your tongue numb as, spiciness are more towards Szechuan style. Loving it~ noodle are not cook consistant as it is suppose to be smooth and thin while eating and it have to depends on who cook it. If cook by both the owner or the son it taste good, and if its the worker, it would be usually overcook.

Beef slices are soft and goes well with noodle. They do prepare tissue for you on the table for you to wipe your sweat off. :D, Those who could not take spicy dish, it is not adviseable to order this, or maybe you can request the owner to toned it down for you.

Another thing that its a must order in here is their Winter Melon Tea. One of the best by far that I often came here to make a take away. I personally feel that it beats any of the bubble milk tea shop out there.

One of my personal fav Taiwanese shop.

In Kl, we have one of the most famous Taiwanese Desert which is Called Snowflakes, as when I visited Taiwan 2 years ago, I was a bit surprise to see that actually their concept is very similiar to Meet Fresh Taiwan (click here). In Taiwan, Meet Fresh is consider one of the famous brand for this desert.

So my dad been telling me about this place he want to try out. Previously he wanted to try out the Yea Japanese BBQ Steamboat Buffet located at Penang Times Square so brought him there. This round is this Taiwanese Desert so mark and done.

Meetfresh (1)

Now is the era of Taiwanese Desert that is bubbling every where in Penang and KL state that have attracted more than 20 brands and the latest arrive in Penang and KL shore is this Taiwan Famous desert Meet Fresh. In Taiwan itself they have more than 100 outlets around Taiwan and their history is in their wall which is pretty impressive.

The orignal 2 masters Mr. and Mrs.Fu originated from Central Taiwan believe that cooking desert in traditional way still the best way to preserve traditional taste of it. It is made daily by handmade of those taro balls and afew other ingredients to ensure customer enjoy freshness of it. More of it (click here)

As for this round, Meet Fresh is own by Wong Kok Group and if you ever want to consider this franchise, they are the best people to go after.

Meetfresh (2)

Like any other Taiwanese desert, after place your order, you will be given this alert item as while they are preparing the desert and once it is ready, it will beep and vibrate. Then only you head to the counter to pick up your desert.

Meetfresh (4)

As usual, will try out their signature or original taste as Meet Fresh Signature Herb Jelly  with its herbs ice base which is pretty solid in tastes and Taro balls is chewy towards hard side abit and herbs jelly is just nice. @ RM 6.90

Meetfresh (5)

Little Taro Balls in White  Gourd Tea @ RM 5.90

On the menu, I see the name of this drink is very unique and decided to give it a try, with top layer cover with foamy cream and stir it along it had become creamy white and filled little taro balls, its a bit on the sweet side and nothing to shout about.

Meetfresh (6)

On the other side, Soya is always one of my favorite. So to compare what’s the difference of it on Double Joy Soy bean with others as it just lack of extra umph.@ RM 8.90

Still Snowflakes (click  here) stands out more and in Penang, okay lah..if you are craving for nice Taiwanese deserts.

Business Hour: 11am to 10.30pm, Daily

Let me tell you, it is crazy to see the crowd to be outside a shop even before its opening hours. This is the first time I saw it happen when the restaurant open for business, already seated with around 8 tables in it. At this restaurant Din Dai Fung, that served Taiwanese Food which is one of a famous Franchise that know for its quality and authentic food being served.

With their overwhelming response from locals since their opening a few years ago, now they have done a little facelift to the restaurant and re-open its door to public again with some unique range of Xiau Long Bao to be introduced.

Japanese cucumber @ RM3.80, pickled with garlic, red chilli, chilli oil and sesame oil which is crispy in texture and mild in taste, definately a good appetizer to start along with.

House Special Appetizer (Xiao Cai) @ RM3.80 – spicy vermicelli noodles mixed with seaweed, bean sprout, dry beancurd, sesame oil and chilli oil

Introducing new to the family, Golden Pumpkin with Salted Egg @ RM3.80, being fried crispy on the outside layer, coated with salted egg on the edge and skin makes it perfect dish to go along with rice.

Shanghainese Drunken Chicken @ RM12.80 a newly modified with add on flavours which now use 2 wine to marinate on it for more than 2 days using Kampung chicken. It is served cold and it is really appetizing, and the chicken meat is a bit chewy yet soak with aromatic wine taste. – Recommended

My favourite of the day for appetizer is Stewed Beancurd with Honey Sauce (Kaofu) @ RM7.00. High quality bean curd being imported from Shanghai and made of high protein wheatflour. The process of making this surely a complicated process but the flavour of it is excellent. First bite of the beancurd taste like bread soak in water but the more I chew the more I like it. A bit sweet, salty yet its deep fried you definately don feel it!

Till now I have seen many bloggers blog about Taiwan, how nice to travel there and not to miss especially their food, I have just came back from that country too. One thing that I have learn is that, the taste of Taiwanese food is quite mild compare to our Malaysia local taste but one of the restaurant that I find it quite similar to Taiwan taste is this restaurant New Farmosa Restaurant which is located at the back main road of SS2, which I would say opposite ESSO petrol station.

farmosa

farmosa (2)

A restaurant which is normally decorated with red table cloth and yellow light.

farmosa (3)

In the menu, you will be suprise and pampered by a wide selection of food available and I am impress.

farmosa (4)

Usually a new restaurant to me, what I would order is more on their signature dish or chef recommendation or the recommendation of that captain but what we have got on that day is all pre arrange. Just sit back and be prepared to be showered with lottttsssss of food.

farmosa (5)

One of their signature drink is which I lurrrveeeee it alot Sour Plum Juice, something which is very refreshing, sour level till my jaw is a bit lose yet not that sweet, just as I like it but some of them do not like it.  Homemade Herbal Tea is one on the front.

farmosa (6)

You might seen this person appearing in alot of blogs and definately must ask have her to be in my blog too.. hehehe.. This is Ester and her side kick. . .

This shop had been in my wanted list food hunting for quite long time, usually which the time is not ngam that me and my friends ended up eat other choices. So this round, we were totally lost do not know what to eat then remember this shop. The place is not big but always quite pack.

A modern living room style cross that came across my mind on their interior, quite a cozy place but it’s a bit warm after a while.

Besides the ala cart menu, they do offer set menu also which is kinda worth to try out.
We order set meal ‘3 Cup Chicken Rice’. Thick in sauce that goes along well with the rice but there is nothing special to comment on. RM 14.90

‘Pork Chop Rice Set’ RM13.90 with traditional method of Taiwan, their rice will always pour on with mince meat and the gravy. Its flavorful with the rice and . . .
The pork chop, was well deep fried and I guess pork cannot deep fried too long that will make the prok meat abit solid and chewy. I still prefer the fried chicken on Shin Lin Taiwan street food snack.
Their ‘Milk Tea’ is good, thick and quite fragrance with the tea taste and the pearl is the type that I like, chewy and a bit solid like chewing gum. RM3.50

After a while in this shop, I remember that, there is another Taiwan Food which is quite good mention by my friend and I heard during my colleage time long long time ago was the one at 1-Stop. Wondering is the shop still there.
