My brother told me that, most of the time he pass by this shop it is always with queue and only recently for his Birthday he requested to dine here. Shin Zushi at Bukit Jalil is one of cheap Japanese dining in KL that many would hunt for. Famous among my circle of friends too. They are well know for their cheap sushi or Japanese food in Bukit Jalil. Only then I realise that they have a few other branches too.

best japanese restaurant in klWe saw next table do order sashimi and saw the cut is so thick. We decided to order too. 3 of a kind sashimi boat at RM 33 with 3 big slab cut for each fish. Tuna, Salmon and white fish. One bite is enough to make your mouth full. This cut is easily 1cm thick,

Overall, I find that this place is decently affordable and certainly one of my recommended place if you are looking for a Japanese Dining in KL without burning a hole in your pocket. Our overall bill is only RM 300. Here is for quantity. You will walk out with happy tummy.

This is a rare discovery in Bukit Jalil as we were on the way to friends house and a few pastry shop in KL do not have the cakes that we want. Then randomly we hit into google and saw this Zhi Zhi Bakery & Cafe in Aurora Place, Bukit Jalil have amazing 5 star ratings. Decided to drop by and check them out.  Truely it is a hidden gem pastry shop in Bukit Jalil.

Since the discovery in December, till date I have return the 4th time to support their business. Its a business that needed support by locals around the area. I find it pity that they open wrong location as the couple just came back to Malaysia during pandemic period and decided to run a business. #supportlokal

They do not have amazing store front as it is run by both retired uncle and auntie that is full with passion. Chef was a head pastry chef in 5 star hotel in Ritz Carlton, Macau before the couple decided to move back into Malaysia and operate at this place.

Uncle also share with me that he was also feature in China Newspaper for having the most classic French Croissant.

I am suprise to see what are their offering, their quality of cakes and amazingly the price tag. It is a pastry shop or cake house that is wallet friendly.

They have breads too. I am too also suprise that a shop run by just the elderly couple, they run the whole business by creating cakes and breads.


One of the best friand. Moist, just melt in your mouth. slight burnt on the outer layer and quality butter. RM 4.50 per piece, ended up bought 6 to brought back to keep to enjoy with my coffee. They do have frozen ones then can bring back to store.

This is a croissant that auntie introduce me as this is either to your liking or it. It is uncle signature Burnt Classic Croissant. Crisply flakes outside and buttery in it. I like it. This is again depends on your own taste profile.

first time there we bought Carrot Cake and some other cakes. Since then, directly converted into regular. Quality cakes with premium ingredient. Loving it. These cakes ranging about RM 28-RM 35. A perfect birthday selection as with RM 100 I can try 2-3 types of cakes.

another round bought back to home and slowly enjoy. Pavlova is one of the best to my own personal liking or even highly recommended. Not sweet, meringue crispy, bite and melt in your mouth. Fruits add on the slightly sweetness of natural ingredients bite that it needs.

This is their specialy sourdough bread that bought back. The loaf, I cut it into 3 pieces and left 2 frozen up there. Slowly enjoy my bite of it. It is so fragrant. soft and just a slight toast with light butter on top with a cup of coffee. It is Perfecto!

This is the chef as he had been running the place very passionate. Sad to see his business is not picking which I believe due to location. I certainly wish and hope that they can continue to strive on the business as the couple share with us they have been bleeding badly for 1 year.

I hope that with more support of neighborhood people are able to keep their business to stay afloat.

This is certainly one of the place I would recommend for both cakes and bread. Their Specialty Bread Is worth to discover which is crafted by the uncle that is in their frozen fridge. Whatever you see in the storefront, or sidewall, those are all the breads that the uncle can make and they do have it in frozen., just that not good in promoting.

how to go there? If you in Pavilion Bukit Jalil, you can walk to this shop thru Parkson Lvl 1 entrance, go opposite road, up escalator, take lift down to lvl 1.

How was your New Year eve celebration 2022? This would be my first after 25 years sitting at home to celebrate. Oh well, the next day friend invited me over to check out the most famous kopitiam known as Oriental Kopi in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. I was told that this is currently the most crazy queue happening in Bandar Puteri.

Just open its door about few months back, Oriental Kopi 华阳 first outlet in Selangor had make an instant impact to the neighborhood.

Be prepare to queue for a seating on weekend. I walk all the way behind, the queue is about 7 shops away from the main entrance.

Love the ambiance of this place. It is like the modern atas classic of the 70’s and in love with their song play list. All the classic song from Leslie Chung and Terresa Teng those era.

Their egg tart is no joke. I see people carrying bags and stacks of egg tart.. No wonder the place is so pack! Their egg tart also made it into Malaysia Book of records with thickest crust as 6mm / 128 layers (if i remember correctly)

I was told to try their Signature Oriental Kopi @ RM 7.80 , Hainanese cham and Roasted white coffee. Among the 3 I would recommend to go for Oriental kopi and also Hainanese cham. This 2 got different is more prominent.

For mains, we order Nasi lemak, normal @ RM 5.90/ Signature Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken @ RM 14.90 which is serve with a huge drum stick, freshly fried as the skin is crispy and pack with mild spices, fragrant rice and with perfectly down up sunny side up. Sambal is abit mild spicy but just nice for morning doze for me. This would be one of my recommended dish.

Oriental Fried Chicken Meat Mee Siam @ RM 12.90 is decently good too. This is above my expectation. Comes with a few chicken strips which I find it a bit generous, and I only wish that the mee hoon portion is slightly more. Mee hoon is cook nicely, pack with some siam spices which it needs to give the umph. Once you squeeze the lime onto the chicken and mee hoon then it is another level of taste.

Penang Char Koey Teow @ RM 13.90 is not bad.

for breakfast, I enjoy their Kaya Butter Toast ias it is quite generous with butter to my liking.  Nothing to shout about but that’s how I like my toast with thicker butter.

Apparently Polo bun is their signature and it is slightly different compare to the ones I had. It is not bad, cuz this is freshly baked as the crust on the top is still crusty, serve with slices of butter and you can choose the topping with condense milk or honey. I find that Condense milk suits my liking more.

their Malaysian Book of Records Egg TART!!!!!!! just look at the flowery crust. there are comparison from this shop and another shop nearby. I would say it is totally different. I like this texture more from inside is soft and fragrant. Flaky with 128 layers, yet abit like croissant on the side . Kinda interesting for me. I whack 2 tart at one go.  I would recommend you to order this too when you are in this shop.

The Hub Coffee Roasters is one of a hidden gem in this Taman OUG neighborhood. A roasters themselves that constant offer some other variety of single origin.  It is a small cozy cafe with only limited range of selection. For people around the area, it would be a perfect cuppa for your weekend or coffee cravings.

I am in here for their Single origin series or at times take away their late.

There are a few region for you to choose from for Single origin and if you are not too sure, ask their friendly barista as they will usually ask you your profile preference before introduce you to their bean. To me is very subjective as I have a wide range of taste when comes to single origin and depends on my mood for the day.

this is how they do their drip coffee. now I do have my mini drip and basic machine, I drink at home more now. HOwever they do have their beans. Will hunt it next.

As on that day, I prefer something acidic and with body. Their Ethiopian series is pretty spot on.

They have quite a huge range of beans. Have fun in exploring for single origin beans available in KL.

Not to sure where go to for your cafe hunting, then The Hub cafe in OUG gardens might be one of the place for you to consider. Small cozy area and at times you will have to wait for a table.

One of the new kids in the block is this new Japanese Restaurant in Sri Petaling. JUUGATSU TEN Japanese Dining is the new dare devil that is currently operating 3 levels of corner shoplot. You will not miss them as them as they are in bright orange building.

There are 3 differently levels in total. Juugatsu Ten Is only operating level 1 and Level 2.  Family Izakaya and currently pandemic situation, their private room is one in high demand. Do make a reservation in advance for this. Level 2 is also hosting another of a private dining – Omakase by this young Malaysian Chef that had undergo apprentice from Japanese Chef in Singapore.

This is the Omakase private dining area, that is able to host only 10 seating.

Usually when comes to Omakese, you are sure to expect a Japanese Chef However in Juugatsu Ten Japanese Dining, this area is helm by this superb young chef, Chef Jxian as he is only in his early 30’s, I am totally impress by his food journey experience that he had planned out for the night.

Omakese set are usually will set by chef and he will use the best fresh ingredient of the day. What you see in my posting could be slightly different to what you will have or serve upon.

For this Omakese Menu is set at 7 course dinner.

The first dish Sakizuke – 3 kinds of seasonal appetizer. Serve with :

  1. sea snails as a cold dish: well marinated. soy taste is light yet very fragrant and it is light chill

Otsukuri – 3 kind of seasonal item. It was catch of the day and chef share with us that it was best fish that just arrive in the morning. He even he share with is this is the sea water fish from Japan. Little did I know that this fish can be eaten and the meat is fresh, sweet and juicy.

We went thru a great dining experience as each dish are explain detailly from chef.  How do we eat it, which sequence, where are the fish from and why this cut of fish he is taking.

Unique dish that serve with dry ice with its serving effect.  Fish meat is well mixture. Each of the meat gives different mouth bite texture. Certainly it is all sweet and fresh.

Next we are moving to Chef cooked dish – chef Specials Grill Dishes & fried dishes.

This is one of my highlight for the night. This is actually octopus tentacles from a huge octopus. only serve 3 dot of the tentacles and imagine how big will this be. Just lightly quick char grill, dip with chef special soy sauce. Omigod! texture is near to a bit rubberish, chewy, fragrant of light soy with hint of charred is just perfect. If you pair it with Sake this is going to be a bomb!

I have seen hairy crab, but I certainly have not seen such a “yeng” hairy crab. Freshly flown in in the morning and still alive and kicking. Usually this live flown in hairy crab have to consume within 2 days to enjoy its best meat quality.

This is how the meat is being prepared. Chef mention that the meat is so fresh, pure and sweet. Maintaining its freshness of this crab by quick boil for the meat then mix with its roe.  I am enjoying every bite of it. Never knew with crab roe you can give such a nice sweetness, and fragrant. The crab claw is just good!

Just look at the waygu. Being carefully handle with layers of special leaves from Japan. Using A5 premium wagyu.

This dish is my super highlight for the night. serve with 2 piece wagyu and each bite is burst with flavours.

  1. Both are filled with foie gras as the base, wrapped with A5 wagyu.
    1. 1 x piece is topped with sea urchin
    2. 1 x piece is topped with freshly slice truffle, and caviar, then topped with gold leaves

Wagyu oil blends so well with foie gras, and creamy uni just melts in your mouth. another piece with truffle and caviar, with nice balance of truffle and saltiness of caviar just goes well with it.

8 pieces sushi : This is another unique seasonal fish that is currently available from Japan.

this Japanese clams also freshly flown in from Japan and I have never seen such a big one. It is as nearly as big as my palm. Chef sprinkle a bit of salt to wake it up.

Look at this. Upon serving, chef will just clap twice to wake the clam up and we are enjoying it fresh. light crispy, sweet, sea water fragrant and hint of special soy sauce just make this one of the best sushi piece!

For sushi, we are all enjoying premium ingredient, with toro, nice cut of tuna, mixture of other fish. The best part of this sushi is how chef cook its rice. Different grains, short yet abit like wheat but each bite of rice you can just seperate it easily in your mouth and nice bite.

Another 2 is this premium sea urchin which is different from the one serve in the first 2 dish. You can tell by its colour and texture. Follow by one generous big Hokkaido scallop. I try to bite it in one bite, unfortunately my mouth does not fit. Lightly grill and this satisfying.

Before we end, served with Futamono – a type of soup. As it look simple but this is prep and steam for 2 hours. just look at the clarity of it. As we drink the soup it turns more oily from ingredient that is use, this is the magic, Look oily but does not taste oily

Love the dessert. Simple and spot on. Very unique kind of grape that we need to suck out the flesh. Then will left its skin perfectly. Follow by ice cream puff and sourish drink.

Chef share with us on his knife set as each of the knife engraving indicates that he have succesfully master station skillset. Like sushi cutting and others. It is not easy to get this awarded from him Japanese mentor in Singpore with strict perfection guide. Certainly impressive that how the Japanese Chef making this is like part of the graduation program.

I must say as a Malaysian, Chef Jxian is certainly impressive as he is only at his early 30’s.

Best recommended to visit this restaurant on Tuesday/ Friday as where all the fresh ingredient are flown in and you can enjoy maximum quality of it.

During pandemic like this, and there are shops like this open, I am certainly impress with their courage. It was a random walk in as were hunting food in Sri Petaling and found this new shop that just open with their special price. Eat all you can charcoal bbq buffet at RM 29.90 and with drinks is RM 34.90 as their opening special and was a too good bargain in this Meet-ing Point at Sri Petaling. What can you expect. Support new businesses , support Lokal.

When we first stumble upon them, they were just 2 days old . Variety of meat that they offer is pretty decent and just a challenge on how you plan to fill up your stomach! Fresh meat that is prep on that day is ready to serve to you to the table. Pick your selection and get it ready to grill. Pork Belly, pork patty & curry beef was our favourite for the night.

the owner is pretty open as they ask about our opinion about their food and we gave them feedback accordingly. Of course they are more than happy to listen to most of us and looking forward to further improve their marination base on neighborhood feedback.

Be kind to business owners, as it is not easy to spend money and run a business in this pandemic. Instead of criticize, why not give them a straight feedback where the owner can improve and we can come back an enjoy again. For the price we are paying with eat all you can bbq in KL, I have no complain at all. Just gave them some feedback what should be add on and also what could be further improve. For 2 days in operation, I certainly hope that they can thrive long for their business.
