I have always been very curious when this Seng Kee Chicken Rice Shop open in this Solaris KL area like a year ago. I have always wonder will there be people going for it. As I was walking to dinner gathering for Korean BBQ, walked pass by saw that they have Merdeka Pomo for Fish Head Curry in Solaris, Mont Kiara for only RM 6.60 with minimum spend RM 66 starting 6pm til 16th Sept.. I think thats quite decent and gather friends to came try following day.

cheap eats in mont kiara
I am quite suprise to see their system for take away, means they are actually quite well known for this area. Looking at their menu, I am also shocked to see that they actually got quite a huge offerings. I always thought that they were a famous chicken rice shop in Solaris.

looking at the comments, apparently they are also famous for their dim sum that is available all day long.

Reading on their menu, only know that it is actually a brand from Johor. Curious how will this version taste like cause never had Johor Chicken Rice before.

Recommending their Thai Style Chicken Feet Skin @ RM 15 is good. Chew skin, cold dishes with well balance of flavours. curry fish head klThis is what we are here for. Their Mereka promo RM 6.60 for Claypot Curry Fish head. turns out to be better than expected. slight watery curry gravy, yet it is fragrant and got a bit of Penang style. I like it.
curry fish head pjThe portion is surpsingly big. We then ask the waiter, this portion is for how many pax, replied is for 3-4 pax portion.  Normal price at RM 40. For a this portion of Curry Fish Head in KL at that price I think its pretty value.  best curry fish head kl

best roast chicken klRoast Chicken is actually quite good. Skin is fragrant, meant is soft and juicy. Soy sauce is salty to my liking. Taste is slightly different compare to the usual that I have come across.  Their Oil Rice is also different. It is oil rice, not the chicken chicken rice.
char siew in mont kiara

siew yuk in mont kiara

Roasted Siew Yuk with crispy skin, I like as every bite is with crunch. Saltiness comes from the skin and meat is soft and juicy.

seng kee chicken rice

Char Siew Sauce is also unique, as I forgot to request to give half fat half meat, ended up with lean meat but did order another portion just to try out. Of course the half fat half meat taste much better and more fragrant with its fats that is needed. Sauce is slightly sweet salty. totally different style compare what its in KL.

chiliOh, you must add on their garlic and chili sauce to enhance the flavour of chicken. We finish one sauce plate each ourselves. chicken rice klAmong the oil rice and wan tan noodle dry, I like the wan tan noodle better. its slightly thin version. Love the texture, slightly chewy with nice handling of the noodle that is not overcook. Sauce is mix well. I would come back for char siew wan tan mee onlyRM10wan tan mee kl

kopitiam in mont kiarafor Hainan Cham and Hainan Kopi @ RM 3.80 each, I like the cham much more. Stronger fragrant tea taste with mild better following thru.

I read comments that many prefer their classic steam chicken. will definitely come back again for second round. I guess this is consider cheap food in Mont Kiara, Solaris.  Now this is making curious how would Johor actual chicken rice taste like.

Herbal soup , Spicy Mala, Pork Bone Soup , Pepper Pig Stomach

Personal recommendation would be their Spicy Mala – is actually an entry level. No like those China Hotpot spicy and decently and eat it comfortable. More like entry level.

their new flavour Herbal Soup would be my next recommendation. Love this soup as strong in herb taste, easy to drink and match with most of the ingredients that they have.

I am totally impress with their new soup quality. Certainly believe they have improve so much compare to my last dining experience.

Oh well, once a while there will be a huge hype over a ramen. The most recent before MCO 2.0 or 3.0 is this Famous authentic Japanese Kanbe Ramen in Retail 163, Mont Kiara. I was told by many that currently this place is their best ramen in KL. Of course to try this place, do prepare to queue for 45-120 minutes. The queue at times can be super crazy.

this is my 5th attempt only to landed it here as the queue was quite fast on weekdays. 20 minutes.

Kanbe Ramen

the shop is run by 3 Japanese Ramen chef and I was shared by the waitress that they are running the business like many Japanese running F&B. Not to compromise on QC. They prep each bowl by themselves and got to know the soup base is cook for 36-38 hours.

Each ramen chef have their own secret recipe and when I was in Japan, I tried 19 Ramen Shop and non of them came even close from soup to noodle. Each of them is so unique.

Kanbe Ramen Retail 163

Seating area is divided by 2 sections. bar counter and normal seating area. If you are looking to sit at Bar counter, you can request from the waitress and you will be put into the waiting list.

kanbe ramen mont kiara

these are the 2 Japanese chef that prep all the ramen for the day.

Kanbe Ramen menu

Kanbe Ramen Menu is not so direct. First time dining here will give you headache as it comes with 7 different soup base and 1 seasonal, with 8 in total.  I ask the watiress to recommend me as she mention Aka is their recommended and  Kuro (garlic base) which is their next top best seller.

I see alot of diners are aftering their famouns Kanbe Tsukemen also. I will aim that next round when I am there. I would say 1 soup and 1 Tsukemen if there are 2 of you.

A bowl of Kanbe Ramen is ranging from RM 32 – RM 45 but you get free oolong tea.

kanbe ramen order

while waiting in line, I have already put in the order I want, with noodle texture to choose and amount of noodle.

how to enjoy kanbe ramen

Each of the table do have one insertion to guide you how to enjoy best with their ramen. I would advise to eat original half of it before you add on any recommended condiments like below.

best ramen in pj

best ramen in kl

best raman in mont kiara

yuzu ramen

For the day, we ordered 2 bowls. This is Aka Ramen with Hard noodle and Chasu. You get to choose level of spiciness and we were advise to opt for level 2 only. So the paste in the middle spiciness, that do not overpower the soup.

Kanbe Ramen (11)

Kanbe Ramen (13)

Noodle texture is not soo hard as I like it to be as I was shared that some Japanese love to eat their ramen in hard noodle. Since then I have been picking up an option hard if there is. I like it better, cuz nicer texture but again on your own preference.

This is the first time I had different texture of chasu, so soft that near melt in your  motuh. Generous piece as 1 bite will give you a nice mouthful satisfyingly pleasure. Aka broth is certainly thicker than many out there. Soup is creamy and thick yet after taste will give you like collagen goie layer in your mouth. I like it.

Kanbe Ramen (14)

Kanbe Ramen (17)

Next was a recommendation from my friend Ivy as she said Yuzu Ramen is an interesting choice and I follow suit. This bowl is certainly you like it or hate it. I find it first few bites is very interesting as like savoury Yuzu version. Pretty prominent flavour of Yuzu yet did not overpower the soup base.

I would highly recommendd this Yuzu version to be shared. It will be too jelak if you are finishing it by yourself

kakuni ramen

Kakuni is one of the best as I have been searching for this type kakuni after one of my favourite ramen shop in Mont Kiara had went under. This is the next nearest which is melt in your mouth, and seasoning is spot on. If you can finish, I would order Chasu with add on Kakuni.

YUMZ!

Kanbe Ramen (18)

retail 163

This is the finale on your table. A guide to enjoy this with mixture into your soup. Both this sides are awesomely good. Well seasoned and could just eat it as a side. I add in everything whats in the table just that carefull on the fried garlic, it is not the usual kind like our Malaysian version or it could be already not fresh (I am not too sure – cuz as you bit it sticks on your teeth) try put lesser of it.

retail 163 mont kiara

Put everything mild to get the flavour you like before you add in more.

onsen egg

Their onsen egg is damm good. Just a side note, it is on the salty side cause of long seasoning. Egg yolk is cook to perfection that goie and stick to your teeth a little.

Would I go back here again? Yes, I would want to try a few more other flavour and their Tsukemen. I just would not bother to queue for more than 1 hour for this.

Another of my favourite Ramen is just across the street at Shoplex- Ichikakuya Ramen if I am craving for Ramen and Kane Ramen is queuing too long.

Christmas is just around the corner and all of us are excited to have friends gathering. This was during mid of this year when I visited this outlet Shakariki 432 Sake Dining at Desa Sri Hartamas, KL. This outlet had been in my list for quite a while.

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (3)

A place that offer nearly all selections like Sushi, Yakitori, Oden and sets.

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (9)

A simple Japanese, Yakitori place and of course their happy hour is da bomb! Will definitely drop by again but I am not too sure as this menu was during July 2020. RM 12 for Sapporo beer is very good deal.

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (10)

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (5)

This their pork charsu is damm good. Burnt crips on the edge and whole piece is well marinated.

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (2)

They have quite a unique selection of sushi roll. Crunchy Roll @ RM 25. Crispy outside and flavourful inside.

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (12)

This is one of my favourite.  Shisho Kaoru Dashi Chazuke @ RM 15

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (1)

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (7)

a skewer of pork @ RM 7

SHAKARIKI 432 SAKE DINING (6)

Not a bad place for a Yakitor Japanese food in KL if you are looking for a few variety. Parking here can be an ass but oh well. Pricing is quite reasonable.

Japanese Yakitori ToriDoki at Hartamas had been here for ages. Just that every time I walk pass by, did not really want to go in till before MCO. Since it is so pack and why not give it a try.

Tori Doki (1)

Yakitori Tori Doki is famous for their yakitori which is more like Japanese BBQ skewers.

Tori Doki (2)

Tori Doki (3)

Its not an extensive menu but that is what they are famous for.

Tori Doki (4)

Not only that. They are famous for their Oden too. It is boil to perfection. Flavours from Chicken bone soup and Golden Dashi that had been boil for 8 hours. Just look at the colour of the soup. Thick and flavourful. Of course with Highball to go along.

Tori Doki (5)

In here is the 3 ingredient that I would usually order.

  1. Mochi Kinchaku – @ RM 7 – chicken mince and rice cake in fried tofu
  2. Daikon Radish @ RM 7
  3. Grilled Tofu @ RM 7

Tori Doki (6)

If you didnt handle with care on the Mochi Kinchaku, the mini thick broth in it is leaking out. One of a MUST have item.

Tori Doki (7)

Tori Doki (8)

The gyoza is alright. pan fried to perfection.

Tori Doki (9)

For yakitori, I had:

  1. Sasami @ RM 7 – tender chicken breast with wasabi
  2. Tsukune @ RM 12 – Meatball with cheese
  3. Tsukune @ RM 10- meatball with homemade yakitori sauce
  4. Kawa @ RM 8 – Crispy Skin with salt
  5. Liver @ RM 7
  6. Tebasaki @ RM 9 – Chicken Wings
  7. Toridoki @ RM 8 – thighs and brest wrap with chicken skin

It was indeed quite a satisfying meal for the night.

Tori Doki (15)

If you are looking for Yakitori shop, this is definately one of them but for their ODEN, I must say it is one of the best I had so far. Could it be best ODEN in KL?

Of course there are another 2 more YAkitori shop which is nearby that I like:

  1. Yakitori Dining Fukuda
  2. Butakaya Izakaya
