High Tea is indeed not my thing as I find the price for it is quite steep for me. However when I saw @ivyaiwei posted about her experience for High-tea in The Ruma Hotel and Residence, then I asked her about her opinion. She just told me her no.1 spot. Best of all, CIMB card/Debit cardholders get 40% off!! Immediately I just went and book for it.

Just got an email that their promo had extended to November too. Menu right at the bottom.

Ruma High Tea (1)

Ruma Hotel and Residence would be like one of my recommendation for travellers with budget. Indeed it is a boutique hotel with nicely build up modern interior. I have not stayed here before but did came over for functions. It is indeed a nice place for picture taking.

Ruma High Tea (2)

Their high tea area is in Goutal room. During this time, reservation is highly recommended and have to send them email ([email protected]) for reservation confirmation. Then you have to make a deposit to secure the spot.

there are 2 sessions. 2.3pm or 3.30 pm. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with their handwashing ceremony.

Ruma High Tea (9)

From the menu, there area some selection of tea for you to choose from. Fret not, as hot water for the tea is refillable.

We had :

  1. Chocolate Mint Tea
  2. French Orange

Both tea were surprisingly good. Got their own taste charactor and it is light yet do not cover the actual tea taste. Pairs well with our tea set too.

Ruma High Tea (10)

as it was Pink-October, in support for Breast Cancer awareness campaign, they have created the tea set to be feature in pink theme.

Ruma High Tea (11)

the flow was to start from top tier then flow to bottom . However, it depend your own liking how you would want to kick start on it.

Not the usual pastries I have especially those tarts with beetroot – that gives you hint of earthy and hint of sweetness at the end is pretty good. Yet the cracker and topped with salmon cubes is savory and perfect!

Ruma High Tea (15)

Ruma High Tea (16)

Can see that they actually put in effort for their mini cakes as there are layers of flavours in it. After enjoying the whole series of items, only then I understand why IVY mention is her no.1.

Tex-Mal nangka nachos, with a local twist, I think this is pretty impressive for me.  A dish that I think I would recommend to order as it is topped with tortilla chips with shredded jackfruit. An Asian-style salsa, guacamole, sour cream and cheese sauce @ RM 20

Sistem Buttermilk : @ RM 29 – boneless chicken breast roulade deep fried with seasoned flour batter, served with a creamy curried buttermilk sauce, sweet potato fries and mesclun salad.

First came Brew & Bread when I was in F&B industry. Gotten free sample from my boss for their drip coffee. For a local roasters they are pretty impressive. Over the years the years, they have then build cafe to showcase their coffee and now with warm food. Their original outlet was sin Kota Kemuning then now another outlet in Wisma MCA at Jalan Ampang which is famous for their brunch in KL.

Brew and Bread (1)

After the trail, their drip coffee had become one of my favourite before all others came out, of course with the most recent well known that most of my friend is buying is “perks”.

Brew and Bread (2)

Brew and Bread (3)

Brew and Bread (4)

they have a display corner that sells their coffee drips, beans and some other merchandize.

Brew and Bread (5)

of course, I am in for their single-origin filter coffee @ RM 14 which what they are famous for. Their latte @ RM 8 and Mocha @ RM 11 are equally good.

Brew and Bread (6)

Read up some reviews, their food are pretty good too. Decided to try out their Truffle Bacon Carbonara with Bacon Brisket @ RM 26. It is creamy and they use like sort of fettuccini thicker version, that is cook to al-dante and fragrant is just right.

Brew and Bread (8)

Brew and Bread (8.1)

this is their signature that a lot of people shout out: Hot Bunny Crab @ RM 25. For price wise, it is a pretty good catch with a generous amount of crab meat, a bit hint of creamy spicy and herbs, yet cheese taste is prominent. No wonder it is a must-order. – recommended too.

Brew and Bread (9)

Brew and Bread (10)

A twist of indon – is their healthier version of Gado-Gado @ RM 14. The sauce they did it right, a bit peanut sauce just that healthier side.

Brew and Bread (11)

Egg Benedict @ RM 26 with special in house marinated chicken. More like chicken kunyit. a nice twist which is not the usually classic. Time to change some taste?

Brew and Bread (12)

Brew and Bread (14)

French Toast @ RM 23. Broich type bread and a scoop of ice cream. Kinda normal nothing to shout about.

Brew and Bread (15)

Sandwich of Truffle mushroom @ RM 13 and I guess this is the least favourite among the food we have tried. If can, avoid.

Brew and Bread (16)

As we are here for birthday gathering with ex-colleague, after meals, cakes of course is a must.

Brew and Bread (17)

Brew and Bread (18)

cakes all so so only.

Brew and Bread (19)

If you are here, I think their pasta series definitely stood out, follow by Brunch and maybe local delights. For me on my taste profile, rating them as one of the best coffee in KL for a local roaster.

There is this new hidden gem in Bandar Baru Klang that serve Thai Authentic street food. Operate by a lovely couple with his wife from Thai. A home-cook now by bringing her learning experience from mom and aunt to our table. Baan Korat Thai Restaurant is indeed one of the places to visit as it was a highly recommended place by a reader.

I find that their Thai street food style is quite similar to those in Hatyai!

Baan Korat Thai Restaurant

They just started to run this place right after the first CMCO which is in June and now they are being hit again for CMCO 2. However, they are still operating now at this moment with limited seating.

their place is pack during lunchtime with their famous serving of that ala cart and their moo ping is a must-have according to many.

What to eat in Klang, perhaps this menu could give you some idea for Thai food in Klang.

Baan Korat Thai Restaurant (3)

For the first time, I am here for their unique serving of Thai Claypot Steamboat (Jim Jum) @ RM 39.90 for 2 pax and also, of course, current famous street food Tomyum Mama Instant Noodle Pork @ RM 28 / Seafood @ RM 35 / Seafood & Mince Pork @ RM 38

Baan Korat Thai Restaurant (5)

their thai Ice tea is also pretty spot on. Thick Thai tea flavour and quite milky. Some of you might find it too sweet but then this drink I find it have to be sweet. One glass will do.

Baan Korat Thai Restaurant (6)

the reason I am here for this is I have never try Thai steamboat before and second, it is cook with charcoal.

After a while, we are ready to dig in. It is indeed pretty good as first time experiencing this.

Dipping with the sauce, it has its own flavour. Gren slightly sour, red a a bit spicy and sour. if were to choose, I personally felt the green chili taste better.

Here is the famous instant mama seafood pot at RM 35. Serve with Thai Roast Pork, Home made thai meat ball, clams, squid, eggs, and fresh prawns.

The noodle is cook to perfection. Broth is sweet, milky, creamy, mild spicy and hint of sour end. The soup is cook upon order.

Indeed one of the best Instant mama noodle pot I have had so far! – recommended!

Baan Korat Thai Restaurant (22)

Another dish is chef special classic dish – Baan Korat Special. Serve in Thai Clear soup with minced pork slab, meatball, clams. Drinking the soup itself is quite interesting and if you are in for some taste experience then squeeze lime and add-in of chili powder. It totally enhances the whole bowl of soup.  @ RM 13.90

They also do serve mookata and other street food. I will definitely come back again to try out some of their other dishes. It seems like one of the best Thai Street food in Klang that I encounter at the moment. Maybe could beat some of the best thai street food in Klang or in Pj.

On and off, I keep thinking where to eat whenever go to Uptown Damansara, and drove pass by this shop Auntie Sim Kitchen uncountable times yet did not make a move to go in till recently. Instantly this place had turn to one of a must go shop in Uptown Damansara if you are looking for Hong Kong stir-fried cuisine.

Auntie Sim Kitchen

I must say, it is a perfect spot for family gathering if you are looking for Hong Kong dai chow in PJ. Train by a chef from Hong Kong and even some of the signature ingredients are flown all the way from Hong Kong.

Hong kong food in pj

Auntie Sim Kitchen (3)

As to preserve heritage and a twist of her own, this is a must have starter. Traditional Teochew Prawn Balls @ RM 35. It is a bit pricy but generous with ingredients. A bag full with mince meat, not too salty yet crispy on the outside with the skin and in it I think do have some water chestnut and also chewy juicy prawns. Perfecto!

Auntie Sim Kitchen (4)

Next is a simple veggie soup, with its broth are sweet and perfect.

Auntie Sim Kitchen (7)

Stir fried Angus Beef with Pepers. Very simple yet perfect in taste. Hint of grind black pepper that did not over power the meat yet the beef was cook to perfection. Juicy and tender that it is medium.

black bean fish

This is one of the dish that instantly hit my palate notes that makes them pretty authentic Hong Kong Dai Chow. Claypot Braised Tilapia with Bittergourd @ RM38 upwards. Not many eateries in KL are able to fried a perfect bitter gourd dish especially topped with black beans. One of the ingredients is imported from Hong Kong that makes it quite authentic.

Anything with their claypot bitter-gourd, I guess should give it a try. I am going to come back for their alternative.

fried duck

To me another local classic is their fried Duck topped with a twist of chef special gravy. Crispy skin, juicy meat and gravy to smooth gravy to tone the flavour down is indeed pretty spot on!

sang har noodle

ahhh, highlight of the night is this : Dry-fried Yee Mee with Freshwater Prawns

Auntie Sim Kitchen (9)

This is not the ordinary shang har noodle (so some of you call it that way). as this noodle was serve, the smell of the big head prawn just trail on the air. Makes u instantly hungry. Looking at the springy noodle just makes me want to instantly dig in!

Auntie Sim Kitchen (10)

Very fresh prawns that had been fried to perfection. Juicy meat that sips with the soy sauce to my liking.  I am in love with the noodle texture as it is one of the best reminiscence to Hong Kong food. Then only found out that it is also imported from Hong Kong. No wonder the springy texture, boink boink and the longish of noodle is just there.

Auntie Sim Kitchen (11)

avocado

To end the meal, we try their evergreen signature which is a must-try is their Avocado in Thai King Coconut @ RM 16. Silky smooth blend avocado puree which is quite prominent in terms of taste that did not give you the raw skin taste yet a hint fragrant of coconut taste is there.  – Recommended!

Auntie Sim Kitchen (13)

A perfect place for Hong Kong Dai chow food in PJ. I certainly will come back to try some of their other dishes.

A recommended place

A new hidden bar have surfaced up in KL. With your least expected area as The Curiousity Iron River 好奇鐵河  is operating at Chan Sow Lin, KL. Indeed a hidden gem for the area. If you are a person who loves to be in a second-hand kind of furniture shop, run-down ambience as I called it a rustic heritage building, then this place is a place that you would want to be.

We came here because of Petai Pizza and little did we discover further its a hidden bar. This place has great classic furniture pieces is also because the owner operates a second hand antique furniture shop.

bar in kl

Discovering this place would be a pain in the ass as waze will bring you to a location here you cant park your car. Best is to park your car at Jalan Satu and walk in this bright one-way street alley.

Looking at some blog posting, they have definitely light up the whole place to a new level. More vibrant and captivating. A neon blue sign board and a deck up Avatar kind lighting garden.

This is one of my favourite walkway. I felt that would be a nice instagramable spot.

little did we know that it is actually a nice bar place. We were here quite early, as bout 7.30pm for dinner. Love the ambience of this place as it is like a modern touch up of a Chinese 60’s herbs medicine shop.

Indeed a perfect place to hang out as after 9pm, the disco ball is turn on. Totally switched the ambience. They also turn on classic Shangainese songs and also the 60’s and 70’s English songs. Indeed perfect music to be in. Do not mind to come back for round of gathering with friends here.

the curiousity iron river (21)

As they are a newly operated bar, food-wise they still have room for improvement. they need time to adjust and will go back again.
