At times when we are in Shopping Mall, we certainly are out of idea or do not know what to eat as there are restaurants that you always go and some times you just want to try something new. If you are looking for Thai fusion food then Thai Hou Sek at 1 Utama is one of the choices that I recommend too. It is a Thai Chinese cooking. Hence the flavour or cooking will be slightly different if you compare direct to a classic Thai food.

thai hou sek (2)

Simply for the modern cheek ambiance and Thai food offerings are pretty decent and good.

For drinks, we order Thai Coconut Shake @ RM 15, Pick- Me-Up Fruit Tea @ RM 8.50 & Thai Hou Yum @ RM 8.50. Thai Hou Yum is one of my favourite as it is refrshing, serve like tequila style as salt are all coated around the surface of the glass. A perfect refrshing drink for our hot weather or just a recharge after some shopping done.

thai hou sek (5)

Egg plant was not in my food list last time and starting to learn to enjoy this dish. Pad Kra Pao Eggplant @ RM 18 is a dish you should order too. Fried to perfection with wok hei, stir fried with soy sauce as one of the ingredient that makes it smells good and fragrant. a perfect combination with rice.

thai hou sek (6)

A dish that we usually will order is fish, but this round trying out their Squid in Spicy Lime Sauce @ RM 37. turns out to be quite good too. Mild spicy, love the sourish soup base from the salted veggie and lime just add in the punch that is need. Interesting that they do add in chinese sausage too.

thai hou sek (11)

Not our usual order which is classic tomyum soup. It is a dish that is recommended by the waiter for Tom Sap Pork Ribs Soup @ RM 23.50. This is slightly more spicy than the squid lime yet love the heat at the back of my throat yet it is not too flaming. Just nice for those who love some spiciness.

Delicious at One Utama is also tapping into this Chinese New Year Festive Mood. This also solve one of my recommendations to some of my friends too as for the past week, was told where to have Chinese New Year Gathering that serve Halal food and with Yee Sang.

Delicious is one of a good option to hit on that it may not necessary to be Chinese Food.

Instead of Salmon, the chef replace it with Soft Shell Crab. I must say this is one of the better Yee Sang that I have had for this festive season. Even though I only tried 4 locations.

Over the years, one of a very consistent restaurant that my family and I visited is Dragon-i Restaurant. My dad loves to come here whenever comes to any celebration or special occasions. Well, I would consider one of best Chinese Restaurant in KL to visit as their service and quality rarely disappoints. Now, with their latest refurbishment in 1 Utama, they have re-branded to known as Dragon-i Peking Duck Restaurant.

Dragon-i (1)

Dragon-i Peking Duck stands apart from the Dragon-i outlets from its setting, with the idea of fine-dining, to the premium menu introducing a variety of traditional, authentic Shanghainese and Huaiyang delicacies. This premium menu mainly features with Huaiyang cuisines, which is known for its light taste, with fresh ingredients and heat control to present these exquisite and delicate cuisines.

Dragon-i (2)

The interior here is of course towards more classy.

Dragon-i (3)

Dragon-i (4)

Dragon-i (5)

Love their miniture decor of terracotta warrior.

Dragon-i (6)

Open space kitchen also allows customers to enjoy the style of making Peking Duck in both ovens and brick fire roasting oven place.

Dragon-i (7)

Dragon-i (8)

To make great Peking duck, Dragon-i had flown in 2 experienced chefs from Beijing to supervise the process of roasting and ensure the product quality. As the preparation of roasting takes about an hour on controlled, over fruit-tree wood.

The quality serve is by ensuring each duck is roasted to crisp perfection with bronze, crispy skin yet tender, succulent meat. Its juicy meat is infused with a smoky floral aroma which allows our us to savor its rich flavor in the most authentic way.

Dragon-i (9)

Chef will be standing right in front of this oven by swinging in around at the tip of fire to get it roasted.

Dragon-i (11)

Dragon-i (12)

There are two choices of meal to choose from: “Peking Duck Two-course meal” (Peking Duck + Duck Bone Soup with Soft Beancurd) and “Peking Duck Three-course meal” (Peking Duck + Duck Bone Soup with Soft Beancurd + Choose from “Deep-fried Duck’s Bone with Salt and Pepper”, “Stir-fried Duck’s Bone in Hunan Style”, “Braised Rice Noodle with Black Truffle and Shredded Duck Meat” or “Stir-fried Shredded Duck Meat with Vegetarian Shark’s Fin”).

Dragon-i (13)

As the Peking duck is being cut and serve, we can hear the cracking sound of the golden brown skin and it smells so good.

Dragon-i (18)

Peking Duck Three Courses (Whole) @ RM 158

First Course: Peking Duck

Second Course: Duck Bone Soup with Soft Beancurd

Third Course: Stir-fried Duck Bone’s in Hunan Style

Dragon-i (20)

Duck Bone Soup with Soft Beancurd is quite similiar to our local dish that I often call it “Kiam Chai Ark [in hokkien]” (salted veggie duck soup). The taste is quite different from those that I usually have as was told this is the china version of it and taste less strong in salted veggie, quite clear in taste and not too bad.

Dragon-i (25)

Dragon-i (21)

Double-boiled Hydrangea Beancurd, Sea Cucumber and Matsutake @ RM 38. Some of you do see the knife skill of cutting tofu like coral in the sea and here you go. They do have one here. A soup that looks simple and is punch with flavour.

Dragon-i (22)

Dragon-i (29)

Sautéed Mixed Vegetables @ RM 25

Dragon-i (33)

Signature Appetizer Platter (Five Varieties) @ RM 83

Dragon-i (30)

Braised Pork Belly served with Steamed Buns @ RM 88

Dragon-i (31)

Dragon-i (32)

In a restaurant that serve China food, Sautéed Diced Chicken with Dried Flower Chili in Szechuan Style is one of the dish that I would definitely order.  RM 38. This version is slightly milder yet you can taste on the fragrance of peppercorn and chili yet it is not overpowering. Chicken is fried to perfection. Do eat it while it is hot to enjoy the nice fragrant of it.

Dragon-i (34)

If you are here for some simple dim sum and their Steamed Egg Yolk Custard Charcoal Bun @ RM 16 is a must order. The egg custard just ooze out and the gravy is quite solid.

Dragon-i (36)

A dish that I never miss when I am here is their Shanghainese Steamed Meat Dumplings @ RM 12

I indeed love my Korean food, as with variety of Korean food that is available now in Klang Valley is indeed plenty. One of the latest chain hail all the way from Busan, South Korea – Yoogane Dak Galbi is regard as one of a famous chain or known as No.1 Dakgalbi in Korea in that state.. Starting off their first outlet 2 months ago at 1 Utama, I only went to try it out right before Chinese New Year.

Yoogane (1)

A simple Korean look and feel restaurant.

Yoogane (2)

Yoogane (4)

Menu is pretty straight forward.

Yoogane (5)

Yoogane (6)

They have a salad or kimchi island that sits right in the middle of the restaurant. Consist with a mini buffet spread of marinated pickle, salad, veggie and kimchi.

Yoogane (12)

My usual Korean meal must have octopus if possible and since in the menu it state that all portion have to be minimum x 2. Therefore I order Chicken Galbi with Chukkumi Octopus @ RM32.90 per pax so you have to x 2 and add on Ramyeon Noodles @ RM 5.90.

Yoogane (13)

In the end of the day, let me just summarise. I did not finish the meal as I find that the portion is quite small and felt rip off if were to compare to other dak galbi place. As Mr.Dak Galbi already sits in bottom of my list and I felt they ares even better than them in terms of taste and quality.

Pablo fans, just went ecstatic when they knew their favorite cheese tart had open in 1 Utama. Just only month in operation, they have also recently launch Pablo Matcha & Chocolate Cheese Tart next. It is now not only available their signature classic cheese tart where this two addition being added for more variety.

Pablo (3)

Trying out one of their classic product is this Matcha with Shiratama @ RM15.90. The drink is quite interesting where they do have a jelly base and top with 3 pieces of Rice ball. I love the whipped cream where it is red bean base. My own preference is best to stir everything till it dilute a bit and that is when you get a sip of slight combination of flavour.

Pablo (2)

Matcha Cheese Soft Serve @ RM11.90

I love the texture of the softserve ice cream where the swirl is so smooth. Although the pricing is on the steep side for a soft serve and I must say this do beat many of the green tea soft serve out there. Maybe is because they have cheese in it. Very well balance of flavour with a classic matcha and hint of cheese smoothness t the end.

Pablo (4)

These are their new signature. Baked Chocolate Cheese Tart @ RM 49.90. Chocolate lover would love this as it is light in cheese and personally I think eat it chill taste so much better. The taste is much more prominent.

Matcha Cheese Tart with Shiratama and Azuki @ RM 49.90 also quite unique where in the middle they do have a layer of red bean and best of all it is filled with mini mochi in it.

These 2 series is RM4 more expensive as to compare with original Cheese Tart

Pablo (5)

Sabrel Cheese is also available in Green Tea. I still love their original for this version. Classic crispy fragrant cookie.

Other famous product for you to buy off the shelves.

Pablo Cheese Tart (8)

Pablo Cheese Tart (9)

This is one of their famous product that sells thousands a day back in Osaka. Pablo Mini @ RM 8.90 would be a good testing tart for you to hit on before you proceed to their main best seller product Freshly Baked Cheese Tart. Love the crust as it is aromatic with slight fragrant of butter biscuiti, as the filling of cheese is not too heavy, yet light and airy that does not give you the overdose effect. A very nice piece of cheese tart that sits in between the other 2 brand.

Another is their drink which is Classic Cheese Tart @ RM 15.90. By the name of it, you might feel that it will be too cheesy. However the base have some banana & apple mixture and some cream cheese in it and blend that does not make it too heavy. Top with some crumbles crust of the base of mini tart to make it a little bite to the texture. Worth to give it a try.

Pablo Cheese Tart (10)

Pablo Cheese Tart (11)

For many of the cheese lover overseas, this is their best selling product and also one of the most recommended by many others. Some of them can even finish this Freshly Baked Cheese Tart themselves. @ RM 45.90. Crust is perfect yet it is not too cheesy as compare to Pablo mini. The filling is slight creamy, airy and aromatic. This taste like have more cream cheese as compare to Pablo Mini. The top have a little hint of sourish taste that goes well with the filling. This is either you like or do not like it. It is acceptable for me.
