Start off with Fish Maw Soup @ RM 20 a bland mixture of many ingredient that during CNY this is one of the soup that many people ordered. Clear in taste that makes it a perfect soup to start off with.

Every restaurant has its signature item and in Tek Sen, this Fried Roast Pork is one of their best seller that many customers will have to order if they dine here. Fried till a bit crips on the head, a bit spicy with chili padi, caramelize coated on the meat and usually we had 2 plates of this. RM 28highly recommended~

Followed by Inchi Kai Bin @ RM 14

This big juicy prawns is Asam Prawns.  The flavor of tamarind is there, well coated along the prawns that every bite of the prawn is juicy yet the flavor is well balance.  RM 49

Not many people like this dish, Bitter gourd fried along with salty duck egg and mince meat, as the bitterness of it had prevent many people on liking it including me, I used to dislike this dish yet I have been tought on how to enjoy it. Since then, I do order it when I have the change. A dish that fried simple that bitterness of the vegetable is not too strong and mix well with the taste of salty duck [email protected] RM 12

tEK seng (9)

Another one of their signature range is their curry. So we ordered on their Curry Fish (sting Ray) @ RM 23, As I like how my Asam fish is sourness is stronger and after taste of it is a bit spicy at the end. Curry gravy is not too thick and to mix with your rice to eat along is just perfect~ – Recommended

One of my friend always dine here and he never miss this dish which is 3 steam egg. Different types of egg which is (century, duck and normal egg) to steam on it. A dish which is very simple, fragrant as just add on some garlic oil on top then add on some soy sauce, you will enjoy this simple dish alot~ @ RM 6

At Tek Sen, which is a restaurant that many of my friends love to dine and no doubt too that they have gain international popularity from a few types of magazine came by to feature them. A place to hunt if you are looking for nice homecook meal without disappointing.

On the set back about this place is there are very limited parking space available around the area and no matter during lunch or dinner its always super pack! It is advise to go early to enjoy full range of their food list as the later you went, there will be some dish sold out.

another recommended restaurant in Penang.

On or last trip on our enjoyment stay at Philea Resort & Spa for the night, then me, Ken, Jason(Our Melaka  Food Guy) that bring us for a food hunting during the stay introducing the very local delight the non-tourist spot. One of his favourite restaurant he rate the best for him which is Restaurant Chuen How served the best Char Siew or know as Best BBQ Pork in Melaka. Restaurant Chuen How

Seriously, if you ask me how to come here, I am sure I will be lost as pusing here and there to come to this coffee shop as it feels that it quite out from the city center. This shop is famous among its neighbourhood. . .

Look at the long queue, and we were far behind. This shop actually served economy rice, with its signature many people come here to take away the BBQ.

Prices and dishes all are written in chinese and I do not know what it crap about . . .

In our mind, usually BBQ Pork comes in a long strips and this version of BBQ Pork is totally different which is prepared in a very short and thin strips, then you can choose what kind of meat you want, by the look of it I was already swallowing my saliva and just cant wait to bite one strip!

Besides BBQ Pork, many people also order Roast Pork and also order his side dish to be added on for rice for dinner.

Economy rice section for you to choose from . .

Very plain style of kopitiam seating as you don see many dine in, most of them came here to take away . . .At first we are here just to test the BBQ Pork only, after heavy influence of Jason, all of us ended up order many dishes and ended up eating rice also . .

Potato in soy sauce I would say, boil till soft and fried along with pork that makes it nice to go along with rice.

The ‘Asam Gulai Fish’ is one of the dish that must take, with its taste of sour, spicy which is at the right level and we just drink it like soup. Recommended~

Roast Pork is nothing much to shout about and I would say it’s above average.

Super star of the dish, which is the BBQ Pork, as this version is not those version that going to melt in your mouth, and I like this BBQ Pork very much too, as I got to know that it marinate overnight with various herbs and spices then head to chargrill spread with honey to give its sweetness, roast till the edge is burn and crispy. With its super thin slices, and thin fats in between layers, soft meat and aromatic caramelize by it,  once start eating, you will never stop, ! One great BBQ Pork to go after! Highly Recommended!

I am surely going to be back again if I head back to Melaka. Please be there early as usually the Char Siew is sold out after 7.30pm. Average a BBQ Pork Rice starts around RM4 . .

this is what I got ..

It’s not in the town center but rather outside the town. Find your way to Siemens or National Semiconductor and you are on the right route to the shop. After passing by Siemens or National Semiconductor, drive straight until you see a big T-junction and a Perodua center (corner lot) at one corner. Turn towards the Perodua center and go straight until you see Chuen How Restaurant on your left.

Been coming to Mid Valley couple of times recently, but not during the past weekend as I drove pass by the amount of traffic into Mid Valley is ‘SIAU’.. I guess this is due to a lot of people now doing last minute Chinese New Year shopping already.

As usual, its always a headache for me to think of a place to eat in MV not till me and my friend was walking around and scouted this place as I remember I ta pau the nyonya kuih before which is not bad. Since most of the time I walk pass by its always pack with people and decided to give it a try.

Nyonya1 (2)

They hae a fix menu on the ala cart range yet the choices of Nyonya kuih are quite alot.

Nyonya1 (3)

The day when I went there was like a dead place cuz it was very early which is around 6pm.

Nyonya1 (4)

If you do come across of cooking a meal at home, all you need to do is to grab one of this pre pack curry sauce to buy back add in some water, boil and cook it and you are ready to makan~

Nyonya1 (5)

I just love my drink ‘Sour plum with asam’ as sure taste like pure blend of the sour plum and the asam is to make the drink even more sour till my jaw bone there so numb. Just love this drink as that day was quite hot and it’s a thirst quencher for me.

Nyonya1 (6)

Do not know what to choose in the limited menu offered by them , so I opted one of my favourite in list to give it a try, ‘Yellow Curry Laksa’ which sounds unique but with the name on top it did not disappoint me, with the vermicelli flooded with the thick laksa soup and added on with the mint leaf just pulls out the taste and with the minimal chili I top onto, turns out to be quite spicy yet satisfying. RM8.90

Nyonya1 (7)

Then my friend order ‘Nasi Lemak Rendang Chicken’. When it was serve, the first part of nasi lemak already pass the test, with some coconut smell is there when it was serve. The rending curry turns out to be not bad too. Mild spicy level, a bit thick curry gravy yet not the type of using curry powder that cook the chicken meat soak the flavor in. RM8.90

Nyonya1 (8)

Nyonya1 (9)

The kuih turns out to be not bad but I find it slightly over price maybe its because under MV but no complain with the taste of it. RM0.90-RM3

Overall, its not a bad place to dine in at with the price tag on the food. Do not mind for a revisit.

My first try on Vietnamese food was during my college time where there is one quite famous Vietnamese restaurant at Taipan, USJ which is called Vietnam Kitchen. Went to this restaurant quite frequent and I love their soursop drink a lot! Wondering is the restaurant still there and is the quality still the same? Till my very last exposure which I had a satisfying meal was at Pho Hoa months back.

Then recently got a chance to try out their food again, but this round I try out their food at the very wrong time which during 9th God festival which I am on vegetarian. Then my friends they request the kitchen to do vegetarian for me. I plan to go sit and migle around mana tau kena makan.

Drinks to start of with ‘Vietnamese Dripping Coffee’ and if you are looking forward to be caffeinated then this is a good drink to go after. RM5.95

Something thick and creamy yet not that sweet ‘Blended Fresh Avocado Juice’ not my type of drink but still alright. RM7.95

I cannot remember what is the last drink called but I love it, gassy, yet a bit diluted feel but with asam that pulls in the taste of it.

All of us waiting patiently for our food to come and been explain by a friendly host. He is really a great guy.

As I remember when I was studying in Melb I used to hate this a lot because of the vegetable ingredient that they use and my housemate used to ta pau a lot back because he work in a restaurant till my Vietnamese friend teach me how to enjoy it and now it had become one of my favourite.

‘Summer Roll Shrimp, Chicken, Salad & Rice Vermicelli’ RM3.95 per roll as it was wrap solid as it is and you must dip it with the dipping sauce(taste something like, ‘Shrimp paste/penang rojak paste’) to make it very flavourful. Mine this round was pure vegetarian roll. Still as good as it is.

We had a mini version of the appetizer is for food tasting purpose making sure we enjoy most of it.

Lemon Grass Chicken @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks
Fried Roll @RM3.25 per roll
Sugar Cane Prawn @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks

As this round me on vegetarian,so got no chance to try out but only to see and swallow my saliva but based on my previous food outing, the sugar cane prawn was grill and very aromatic.

When it comes to Vietnam food, beef is always their signature. It would be best to eat with beef as ‘Beef Pho with combination of Steak, Brisket, Flank, Tendon and Tripe’ @RM16.95 which is my all time favourite that all the lembu spare parts are in there. The soup base is clear and sweet as it taste like the parts had been cook along in it for hours.

As today I am hunting for healthy food concept, the next serving would be ‘Vermicelli with Veggie and Grilled Chicken’(mine without the chicken) RM12.95. To best eat it is to pour the gravy in, and mix it around like rojak then you eat. Something light and healty which fill in your taste bud with a bit of sour, sweet and clear feeling for you. The chicken meat is to pull up the taste of the veggie which goes along very well with it as what I have been told.

My vegetarian version.

I love my fried taufu very much as it is, fried to perfection to my likings that the outer layer is a bit solid crust crispy and the inside is soft and hot yet the show the taufu with the Vietnamese sauce is just heavenly.

Besides that, they do have ‘Seafood Noodle Soup’ as I did not try out this one, so cant really comment much on this.

Lastly, we got serve with ‘Net Spring Roll with Ice Cream’, a simple ice cream with fried yam that taste very yammmy which makes a perfect couple. RM5.95.

When comes to Vietnam Food, certainly this is in my list to recommend.

Thanks to Richard for organizing and thanks to Sidney for inviting. My last review on the shop, click here
