Usually when I am back Penang, a week before I will bug my friend to bring me nice places to eat or their latest discover, (sounds like I am a foreigner or outstation guest). Restaurant Hock Chuan Heong is one of the place that they usually will pop by for lunch is this traditional Hokkien dishes in Macallum Street here.(I used to stay here for 7 years, didnt know such shop existed.)

Oyster (1)

For those who are not familiar around the area, it would be tricky to locate it as its hidden behind a row of shop house that Pos Office Malaysia would be the landmark.

Oyster (2)

This place its famous for its authentic Hokkien dishes especially on their Oyster series. Its super pack during lunch time and it is advisable to do early lunch.

Oyster (3)

All the dish serve up pretty fast and this is what happen when you have 2 girls very hungry and cant wait for me to complete taking the picture first by snapping some of it first.. 😀

Oyster (4)

One of the dishes that must have is their classic Fried Oyster (Oh chien) . In most of the version that we have is either crispy or starchy and back to traditional its starchy. Fried to aromatic and dipping with their special chili sauce that makes it taste even better.

Oyster (5)

I cannot remember when is the last time I had this dish, that it was too long ago, that it used to be one of my grandma’s favorite dish. Found back the authenticity place for it, Oh Mee (Oyster Noodle) comes with generous ingredients and the gravy is slightly mild and find that noodle is over cook that make it too soft. Overall its not bad that many old people will sure love this taste.

Oyster (6)

This is Tau Kua Suan Na dish is fried and cooked with lots of leeks, added with little 5 spices powder to bring up the taste a little more. Gravy is nice and pour it onto rice, is good~

If you are looking for some authentic food then this is one of the place to hunt for. One of the set back of this location is limitation of Parking and best to park around Post Office area and walk towards behind it, or residential around that area.

Remark: The owner is a quite lansi (arrogant)

ozeki (5)

and I get to see Executive Chef  Hitoshi Kimijima with his superb knife skills on slicing all the sashimi. I often get to watch this on Japanese drama but never live and up close.

ozeki (7)

Salmon sashimi. .

ozeki (8)

Edamame boil in hot water that make it soft and warm. I used to dislike this dish and friend thought me how to enjoy it ..

ozeki (9)

Then we were pamper with sake. I love this bottle of sake that is serve on chill, simple and easy to drink and pairs well with sashimi. Fragrant on the after taste. If you do come here and dine, try to order this bottle. – Recommended~ (apologize for not knowing the name of this sake)

ozeki (11)

another one is with plum and lemon flavor. Simply refreshing and drink with care.

ozeki (12)

ozeki (13)

Mango unagi salad. . . . something new to me as the dressing pairs well with unagi and mango, mango is fresh and unagi been grill to perfection.

ozeki (14)

Presentation of Sashimi boat is simple and place on top of a ice bed to ensure the freshness.. Needless to say, it had been a while since I come near to good sashimi and no wonder this outlet is still standing strong after 10 years.

ozeki (15)

One word to say, it taste awesome!

ozeki (16)

Next is this beef cubes being place on top of the hot grilling pan and let it grill slowly. Juicy and moist  as it is and the fats of beef make grilling and oozing out along make the taste even more aromatic.

ozeki (17)

something light to dance on our palate that seve in a unique way with a huge cube of wooden plank at the bottom with fire cooking along on this huge shell of scallop is something light and tasty. Huge scallop meat is fresh, chewy when biting.

ozeki (18)

Volcano roll . ..

ozeki (19)

One of the best volcano roll that I can find in KL, with fresh ingredient and drench with burning cheeze along its the most perfect dish and taste I have discover so far. Would not want to describe this and would love you to go try for yourself. – highly recommended!

If you are looking for authentic Japanese restaurant to dine, this is one of a restaurant would fall into my recommended dining area and of course there are other good Japanese dining as well, but this outlet is not to be miss.

In Malaysia, we have many types of Kopitiam, ranging from Hainanese, our traditional weekend joint nearby a market or at your favourite shop most of the time. I come across to most kopitiam have their own style of cooking especially those more to homecook style. Surisit The Thai Kopitiam is the latest joint that offer thai authentic cuisine that start to operate in this industry that hidden right in the heart of Taman Tun Dr.Ismail which is hidden right behind CIMB back area. .

You can find alot of Thai authentic food out there, with one good thing about this place is that you cant find many Thai Food that serve PORK and this is one I come across that makes us keen on it.

Surisit (1)

The kopitiam is easily spotted as its the only kopitiam that operate with pale orange colour lighting and wooden plants and wooden chairs right outside the shop.

Surisit (2)

Surisit (3)

Surisit (4)

Thai Bottle Drinks especially with fanta. . . .

Surisit (6)

Surisit (5)

If you travel to Thai, a few types of chili will be placed on the table to suits you or to spice you up.

Surisit (7)

Soya CinCau @ RM 7.90

Surisit (8)

Start off our first dish with Pucuk Paku Yam Pla or kerabu pucuk paku @ RM14.90/15.90. I find this dish is very appetizing or maybe I love sour taste to start off with, not only that, this dish is served cold and once start eating eat, I cant stop as it taste sour, little spicy and hint of coconut. – Recommended~

Surisit (9)

Next dish that is served that steal our hearts away instantly is this very fragrant Mun Thod Gapi @ RM16.90/24.90 or crispy fried pork served with their own home made chili. It was good, with its crispy skin, and the texture of pork is soft and evenly seperated out with some slices are filled with fats that some of my friends like it, and I love mine with just some fats. This plate was gone instantly. .  Recommended~

Surisit (10)

Kheng Som Pla @ RM32.90 known as  sour orange curry fish with vegetables. Its another dish that not to be miss when dine in a Thai restaurant or usually you would either order this or the fried fish. For soupy fans, you might enjoy this too as the fish is fried first instead of steam then bath with the soup. The crust of it is crispy, then eat along with the sour spicy soup. The soup is pretty additive to me tho . .

Surisit (14)

Pla Neung Prik Ma-Nao @ RM32.90 is another dish that must look out as the fish is deep fried then sprinkle with fine chili, lime, garlic and spring onion on top of it make it a bit challenging to eat as I cant really take spicy. This fish was evenly distributed with some people like to eat the fins, heads as it is very cripsy and fragrant yet best part of all, the fish is fresh as the meat is soft also must eat along with gravy on top.

Surisit (11)

Thai style fried egg omelette or Cha Om @ RM9.90

Surisit (12)

Kao Klut Gapi @ RM14.90/18.90 or belacan fried rice that serve along with sweetened pork

Surisit (13)

Then you just  mix everything in the plate  . . .. The combination of all flavours makes it extra kick, with cili padi, yet you get to taste sour lime as I squeeze both lime on top and young mango, then sweetened pork gravy.

Surisit (15)

We always would prefer go traditional as original tomyam is in clear soup just that malaysians had made it to fiery red style tom yam and we still stick to trandtional ones, comes this Tomyam Ka Moo @ RM25.90. The soup is good as it was cook along with pork and was very sourish just that it was not spicy as we expected, then after that we ask the person, they said this is the standard taste and we can request it to be spicier which we would next round~

Surisit (16)

Torb Tim Krob @ RM5.90

Surisit (17)

So far,  Mango Pulut (Glutinous Rice with Mango) is offer in many Thai restaurant, this is quite good as the mango is very fresh, soft sweet and juicy, then eat along with soft sticky rice which top with coconut milk that makes it frangrant to eat along with the sweet mango @ RM8.90

Definitely this will be our another Thai restaurant to be in our hit list and we will definately will come back for more, as the chef actually allow us to order things off from the menu or just tell him a budget and he will prepare good authentic thai food for us. Just that need to book 3 days in advance. If you are looking for good thai food, this is one to hunt for. .  Recommended~

I have never tried out authentic Sarawak Food except Sarawak Laksa, not sure those places that sells it, its origin flavor or not as for now, Paya Serai at PJ Hilton had bring Chef Jamilah who flown all the way from Hilton Kuching to brings us the authentic taste from Sarawak.

Let me tell you, it is crazy to see the crowd to be outside a shop even before its opening hours. This is the first time I saw it happen when the restaurant open for business, already seated with around 8 tables in it. At this restaurant Din Dai Fung, that served Taiwanese Food which is one of a famous Franchise that know for its quality and authentic food being served.

With their overwhelming response from locals since their opening a few years ago, now they have done a little facelift to the restaurant and re-open its door to public again with some unique range of Xiau Long Bao to be introduced.

Japanese cucumber @ RM3.80, pickled with garlic, red chilli, chilli oil and sesame oil which is crispy in texture and mild in taste, definately a good appetizer to start along with.

House Special Appetizer (Xiao Cai) @ RM3.80 – spicy vermicelli noodles mixed with seaweed, bean sprout, dry beancurd, sesame oil and chilli oil

Introducing new to the family, Golden Pumpkin with Salted Egg @ RM3.80, being fried crispy on the outside layer, coated with salted egg on the edge and skin makes it perfect dish to go along with rice.

Shanghainese Drunken Chicken @ RM12.80 a newly modified with add on flavours which now use 2 wine to marinate on it for more than 2 days using Kampung chicken. It is served cold and it is really appetizing, and the chicken meat is a bit chewy yet soak with aromatic wine taste. – Recommended

My favourite of the day for appetizer is Stewed Beancurd with Honey Sauce (Kaofu) @ RM7.00. High quality bean curd being imported from Shanghai and made of high protein wheatflour. The process of making this surely a complicated process but the flavour of it is excellent. First bite of the beancurd taste like bread soak in water but the more I chew the more I like it. A bit sweet, salty yet its deep fried you definately don feel it!
