Browsing

I am a big fan of China food especially anything which is more towards Szechuan cooking style. Love their super spicy and oily base cooking. Yap, I might sound crazy as what my friend say but then I have dine one before which is really good in Melbourne, that continue my hunt for best Szechuan food in KL. Lucky Sichuan Restaurant is one of the nearest.

Lucky (1)

since its my friends birthday, then Sally highly recommended one of her regular spot which is Lucky Restaurant that sells szechuan food. Surely when Sze Chuan food is mention, I wont say no.

Lucky (2)

As for her booking and since she is a regular, we got a spot upstairs. I am amazed with the interior design that they are actually operating 2 levels of the shoplot and they have decorate the whole place with authentic Chinese ambiance. Wooden round door, with lantern lighting and bamboo painting on the wall.

In the menu, price are pretty much the same compare to the rest of the restaurant and everything looks good too.

For starter, we head for something really spicy, as the sea of red chili oil is only deceiving.

Lucky (9)

Not really spicy or maybe my spiciness level had increase. Great start and its pretty much a must order Item.

Lucky (10)

For someone who cant take spiciness, then Fried bittergourd is highly recommended! Fried to perfection that bitter gourd taste is not too bitter and its very aromatic with wok hei. Ended order another plate.

Lucky (11)

Sweet and Sour Pork intestine was gone in seconds. Chewy and light spicy end that makes it nice to go with rice.

Lucky (12)

Sour Spicy Soup turns out to be out of my expectation as I have expected too much in this dish when comes to this restaurant. This shop the soup have more sourish and a bit strong of vinegar taste.

Lucky (13)

this dish turns out to be good too, as the pork slices are soft, with sourish spicy gravy.

Lucky (14)

This is a must have, as fried chicken cubes are crispy and aromatic with their own seasoning of powder and fried along with lots of dry chilli. Not bad.

Lucky (15)

Pai Kuat did not really finish as its quite normal. .

Lucky (16)

This is one of my favourite dish when comes to Szechuan restaurant. Some of you might find it too oily or cook in a sea of hot pippin oil. For this restaurant, I don really like their fish slices and their soup base.

happy Birthday to our B’day Boi Marcus. . :d Another great cakes from Fatboybakes

Overall the food is good and I am keen to try their Malat Steamboat. .  smells good. For their fried dishes, I still prefer my favourite stall at Jalan Alor (click  here) currently they have fine tune to local taste, you have to mention authentic spiciness.

In heritage trail Penang, there are many hidden gems with many nice cafes and restaurant. There are one especially are quite well known or no stranger to many locals, even this humble restaurant had manage to attract many local and foreign tourist to flock in. Tek Sen Restaurant 徳成飯店 that had been establish since 45 years ago and now had past to its 2nd generation and its growing, that quality and taste is still well maintain and consistent.

This restaurant had move to its new premises to provide more comfy experience in classic dining, that tuck in one of busy area, Carnavon Street.

tEK seng (2)

Tek Sen Restaurant offer delicious Chinese cuisine, featuring a mix wide range of authentic Cantonese, Teowchew, Hakka and Peranakan delights with many years of experience by recipe passing down and improve.

tEK seng (3)

On its new premises offer bigger and more comfort dining experience for customer yet the whole interior still have a touch of old Tek Sen restaurant that used to operate few doors away.

tEK seng (4)

Start off with Fish Maw Soup @ RM 20 a bland mixture of many ingredient that during CNY this is one of the soup that many people ordered. Clear in taste that makes it a perfect soup to start off with.

tEK seng (5)

Every restaurant has its signature item and in Tek Sen, this Fried Roast Pork is one of their best seller that many customers will have to order if they dine here. Fried till a bit crips on the head, a bit spicy with chili padi, caramelize coated on the meat and usually we had 2 plates of this. RM 28highly recommended~

tEK seng (6)

Followed by Inchi Kai Bin @ RM 14

tEK seng (7)

This big juicy prawns is Asam Prawns.  The flavor of tamarind is there, well coated along the prawns that every bite of the prawn is juicy yet the flavor is well balance.  RM 49

tEK seng (8)

Not many people like this dish, Bitter gourd fried along with salty duck egg and mince meat, as the bitterness of it had prevent many people on liking it including me, I used to dislike this dish yet I have been tought on how to enjoy it. Since then, I do order it when I have the change. A dish that fried simple that bitterness of the vegetable is not too strong and mix well with the taste of salty duck egg.@ RM 12

tEK seng (9)

Another one of their signature range is their curry. So we ordered on their Curry Fish (sting Ray) @ RM 23, As I like how my Asam fish is sourness is stronger and after taste of it is a bit spicy at the end. Curry gravy is not too thick and to mix with your rice to eat along is just perfect~ – Recommended

tEK seng (10)

One of my friend always dine here and he never miss this dish which is 3 steam egg. Different types of egg which is (century, duck and normal egg) to steam on it. A dish which is very simple, fragrant as just add on some garlic oil on top then add on some soy sauce, you will enjoy this simple dish alot~ @ RM 6

At Tek Sen, which is a restaurant that many of my friends love to dine and no doubt too that they have gain international popularity from a few types of magazine came by to feature them. A place to hunt if you are looking for nice homecook meal without disappointing.

On the set back about this place is there are very limited parking space available around the area and no matter during lunch or dinner its always super pack! It is advise to go early to enjoy full range of their food list as the later you went, there will be some dish sold out.

another recommended restaurant in Penang.

For people whole love homemade fish ball, Tang Pin Kitchen located in SS2 directly opposite Esso station had become one of my frequent place for dining. Also apologize that the name of dish is not complete cuz I lost the receipt.  . 🙂

Tang Pin (1)

I usually drop by here for lunch as its fast, simple and easy parking around the area as it is located at the edge of SS2 heading towards Seapark.

Tang Pin (2)

A simple modern kopitiam style that filled with marble tables and chairs. .

Tang Pin (3)

Tang Pin (4)

Price in here is consider cheap and with quality they served match the standard overall. . .

Tang Pin (5)

One of my favorite dish is this Mee Pok @ RM 6 a simple bowl of noodle that filled with mince pork and lots of lard on top of it. The noodle is thing and the texture is very different, with its a bit springy yet do not taste like koay teow or pan mee. That’s the unique of this noodle that I like it. I always love mine to add on with chili that is placed on the table and just mix it all together, the taste is whoola~ – Recommended

Tang Pin (6)

A side order that we order is ‘Bitter gourd fish ball soup’, as I find that the bitter gourd taste is not pungent enough to my likings, but a few of my friend already said its quite strong and some don even drink it.

Tang Pin (7)

For a small bowl of porridge like this that cost around RM5-6 if I am not mistaken is simply got rip off. . . Taste wise, nothing to shout about.

Tang Pin (8)

for a value worth around RM7.50 I have no complain on this with the amount of ingredient they added on . .

Tang Pin (9)

Besides their simple menu that they are offering, their ‘Tong Sui’ is pretty recommended by me too. Among the tong sui I have come across, I quite like theirs as its flavourful and not expensive. Start off with this Soya Bean . . with more like homemade taste and I love my soya bean a bit thick in texture, and they add on with old ginger that makes it very warm after drink it.

Tang Pin (10)

Soya Bean with Tong Yuen that is my favourite of all. . .

Tang Pin (12)

At the base of it is filled with a layer of black sugar which I assume would be homemade as it is quite thick in texture and a bit sticky. . If you drink it directly without stiring it, it taste pale and after you stir the black sugar it turns very nice, and you can see mini slices of old ginger in it. Then ‘Tong Yuen’ is soft and the skin is not thick that filled with sesame fillings. – Recommended~

Tang Pin (11)

Gingko Fu Chuk Barley is another one that I like, that the barley was not over cook, ginko is soft enough and the fu chuck been boil till very soft and mashy type.

Overall, this is surely a great place to dine with their simple parking and the price and quality that they are offering and my fav of all is the Mee Pok and order a simple bowl of homemade fish ball to eat along ..

The history of it

Chi Ka yin (5)

One of the thing that impress me in this restaurant is this small little shop, that was just began operation about 5 months ago already got so much to bag for, by coming out in the newspaper, and also already got featured in Ho Chiak!

Chi Ka yin (12)

While the night is still young, we kick start with one of the very traditional dish ‘Hakka Abacus Seeds (???)’ @ RM12(S) RM24(B)

Chi Ka yin (13)

‘Hakka Salted Chicken (????)’ @ RM13(S) RM25(B), something that look simple but yet very flavourful. I like the soup base of it, which is a bit gingery, salty yet its feels like clear in taste.

Chi Ka yin (14)
