I have been drinking alot of drip coffee for the past 1 year. Trying out numerous brands and there are some to my liking, some are not. Aik Cheong Coffee has recently rolled out their newly developed ‘BLACK. series range of products, which consist of four (4) new variants with the concept of ‘BLACK TO BASIC’.

In order to drink good coffee, it comes with some patience. For a glass to go full, will takes about 3-5 minutes.

Indeed a bit of sweet end which is towards more on the fruity end. Smooth body and will be my perfect morning coffee.

Not only stopping them from coffee manufacturer, now Aik Cheong also moving towards healthy segment. Now they do have Granola and Oatmeal cereal.   A nutrient-packed combination of rolled oats, honey and canola oil that is baked until crisp, then toasted until golden brown. It uses only real fruits and nuts, plus some delicious berries yogurt bites.

Trying out this Aik Cheong It’s Granola Mix berries. In a cup, it comes with 2 separate pack and a spoon as a convenience. For this simple hearty meal, you just need to add in milk or yogurt to your liking.

As for me, I add in with milk. Enjoying my simple breakfast bite by bite while working from home. Granola is soft, and the mix berries indeed do give extra fruity to my milk.

Next is Aik Cheong Instant Fruits Oatmeal Cereal comes with milk powder which I prefer this over the granola cup. Comes in a sache pack. They have 2 flavours. One with instant nuts and with fruits. Love the texture of the oat, fragrant and simple. I guess its good for my new diet during this MCO.

After saw some pictures posted on Jennifer’s Instagram, then on our lazy weekend, we decided to hunt this coffee place, since its nearby to my place. Located in Plaza Damas 3 (New section) that is located on the first floor. If you drive pass by the road daily, you would not have notice this place because of the road heading downwards.

I love how the owners play with their concepts. Very simple yet creative. If this outlet is in heritage area in Penang, it would have a superb response.

My cup of Latte, well presented with creamy froth, if the coffee taste is slightly stronger then it would taste better as currently being diluted with milk taste.

An island up in the north, which is rich with heritage and famous for its food, who does not know this island Penang? Well, one thing cannot be denied that, after a few areas have got awarded as UNESCO heritage area. . tourism industry had push up to another level, with a mark on the map by knowing its one of heritage spot! Nostalgie Cafe

Good thing is this heritage area had attracted many tourist and many pre-wedding photoshoot had taken place with amazing work from many photographers along with many new cafe’s and boutique hotel bustling up around the area, one of the most recent place we found is this little family operate cafe, Nostalgie Cafe that stood alone in Steward Lane, which is just directly across Muntri Street.

All the operates in the area have their very own catchy name, not to be surprise that Nostalgie actually come by from French which evolve from the word Nostalgia with the meaning of yearning for the past. As this place is know with its rich heritage, therefore this word been chosen that preserve the whole building outlook and do with a bit more touch up to bring back the look and feel of the place.

Its like many cafe around the area and every cafe have their very own style preserving the whole building, and I must say this outlet is one of my favourite, as they did it with different style. A bit of art, antique which is a combination of east and west combination. Why is that so? Below is running operate cafe and upstairs is a boutique hotel which expected to be complete by Febuary 2012 and there are already people book the place. I got a chance to preview the place and its nice without completion yet. 😀

Back to my question, why is that so and with following pictures you will understand. . .

and this is how people enjoying the place, a classic touch with a bit of simple contemporary design to make it very comfortable to chill for a morning. They are just a very friendly couple~

On a hot sunny day, you would not want to miss this 2 drinks which is Ice Lemon Tea @ RM 5 & Cranberry Longan @ RM 9. Which is really a thirst quencher.

If you are a Lime drink lover, try not to miss this as not many places can serve nice Lime Juice drink and the colour and tone of the drink already tell, made fresh~

The menu is pretty simple as the have spaghetti, pizza and sandwich, the rest are drinks~ Food range are more like Italian homecook!

A simple dish to start off with Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Prawns @ RM 24, taste is light with olive oil and well coated along the spaghetti,  sprinkle upon some cheese powder on top that serve along with two huge prawns. . .

a meal that cook with their very own homemade sauce is Spaghetti Marinara with Prawns @ RM 24,   sourish in taste with the tomato sauce well coated on which is not too dry and by the time you finish the whole plate, there are little sauce that left on the plate that makes it look like you have lick it off~

Fettuccine Carbonara with Turkey Bacon @ RM 21, as not many people can take too creamy taste as that’s one of my favourite, a bit salty with bacon that cook along, and enough cream to make it as I prefer.

The star of the day is this Chicken and Feta Cheese Pizza @ RM 28, a home made base dough which you can see the chef roll in the kitchem that comes with the crust not too thick nor thin which is just perfect! Rich in feta cheeze taste and the flavor is a bit more strong, and a bit sourish with the cherry tomato that makes it blend so well. – Recommended!

A pizza which is generous with prawns is this Prawns and Chili Pizza @ RM30  that you can see each slice of pizza comes with decent size of prawns. This pizza bends towards more on sourish size because of its tomato base~

Sandwich lovers, you must not miss this with its fluffy homemade bread daily on a very limited bread available that once sold out, you have to come back the next day. I love the bread so much and the chicken is perfectly grill that make it a great sandwich to start your day off. – Recommended!

Under desert menu, this is the supper star or known as the cafe’s signature cake, Carrot Cake @ RM 12. This cake is also made fresh daily and one of the best seller in the outlet. Often get sold out over the day very fast, and some of the customers even come a few rounds for this cake. The cake is huge enough to feed for 2 person and if you are a cake lover like me, once slice is just perfecT! Its rich in ingredient, that every bite is filled with walnut and add on with a bit of raisins to sweeten it a bit. The cake is not too compact yet its a bit bouncy when you bite on it. A cake that I prefer, soft and not too sweet~

Chocolate Brownies with Walnuts are a bit on the bitter side because of the chocolate used, and some of you might not used to it. They are not dry, very moist and with chocolate sauce added on makes it even better. RM10

If you are coming to this outlet for dining, my recommendations is do not miss their pizza and sandwich, as their spaghetti taste are more towards authentic taste, therefore some people might find the taste a bit bland or sourish.

Its a good thing to see another cafe pop up around the area, one set back of this outlet is there are very limited parking space around the area, as you can park in the small lane oppsite the cafe or you have to park nearby area with just about 3 minutes walk by strolling down this rich heritage area`

Heading to Day 3, we woke up early in the morning and arrange a driver to pick us up and start our journey to Pattaya. Its actually a trip that takes about 2 n half hours from Bangkok city. As on the way, Goft did told me that we MUST and MUST drop by at this french bakery – La Baguette French Bakery that serve superb food that she never fails to drop by whenever she heads there.

Okay.. What is so special about this shop?  La Baguette is actually a french bakery that serve many types of bread, pastries, deserts and not to miss their signature crepes. Open its door to public in year 2003 and there is where they have started to increase their popularity among locals and foreigners. Its a special place with unique design and very nice ambiance that just makes you want to stick in this shop longer.

When you walk into the shop, there will be a ice cream bell ringing on the door then you will be greated with a smile by their friendly staff. The whole shop is painted fairly white with the shine of the early sun into the shop makes it even brighter. Menu on the ceiling are fitted with chalkboard style  with menu nicely printed on it.

The whole shop was nicely decorated and it certainly blend in perfectly to give you the feel its a french bakery shop.

Most of us are very excited as for the first time, we come into a french bakery shop and we love the ambiance and interior design alot. Very simple and cozy, making us walk around and busy hunting food at the menu and some of us busy camwhore around the cafe.

Its divided into 2 sections, one is bakery and pastries and another side is deserts, crepes and gelato.

and just look at the pastries and desert fridge, its fill with lots of selection and I just stare them for quite a while, too bad it was in early morning that I do not have appetite for these, if it were after lunch, I think I am going to force my friend to at least try 1/3 of the fridge.

It was pretty pack in the morning and people just don wait for their seats even though we came first, they tend to go after what is available table to them. Then only I told the waitress that we came first only she advice another family on the issue.

I like the setting of the cafe, that filled with book classic wooden shelf, small wooden table and chairs with old clock on the wall, huge 3 seater sofa at a corner and some huge single seater sofa, makes it very French ambiance.

I have always pass by this nice posh stall right at another wing of Pavilion. The cakes and chocolate always look so mouth watering and just didnt drop by and last 2 weekend, on early Saturday morning, I finally set foot to this outlet as I was invited to Godiva event : The Chocolate Story that we are all a chocolatier for a day that we can get our hands on to create our own chocolate.

How did Godiva came out and there is an interesting story behind it:

“” 80 years ago in Brussels, Godiva Chocolatier was founded at Belgium when master chocolatier Joseph Draps founded a chocolate company that was named in honor of the legend of Lady Godiva.

Why it was name after her as her husband Lord Leofric charge taxes and the civilians are suffering, at that mercy of people Lady Godiva appeal to the husband to abolish the taxes and in one condition the husband challenge her, that if she rode naked through the streets and the people of the city remained inside, the taxation on the poor would be lifted, as the day she rode on the streets, the people did close their shutters, as promised. Her action is how it was made to , become the brand of Godiva.

Before the whole class got kick of we were served with Macaroons and Long Black coffee to start off with, something new for my breakfast menu . .:p

Macaroons is good, with the crust just crack when you bite it, then after a few bites hits the middle is a bit chewy which is just nice.. I find a bit too sweet for me. . If it tone down a bit would have been perfect .

some Cheeze cakes to hit on, and I love the cheeze cake its cheezy, not too solid in texture, moist enough and with a bit crispy crust at the bottom is just perfect to go along with my coffee.

In Penang, there are actually a lot of things to discover. The most recent discover was a Coffee Shop that had its very own signature brew. Although I am not a coffee lover but I can still take it. Coffee Lane is located in one of the classic heritage shop housing in the banking zone of Penang.


It was our casual meeting up with CK, Lingzie and Ken(only realize he is from PG too) had fantastic lunch introduce by CK and she brought us to this shop to be pampered.

When I walked into the shop, I fell in love with the little yet cozy with heritage feel and filled with the cold of aircon in the room just makes me so comfortable.

The coffee or tea making area is filled with simple decorations and besides that, he does sell some special coffee making brewing little equipment.

Their shop is still very brand new and their specialty serving is more on coffee and as for lunch time, they do have menu for that too with reasonable pricing.

Since I am a newbie in this turf, CK recommend me to go for ‘Syphon Brewing Coffee’ that I must witness the unique of how the coffee is made with their mini station.

The very first thing when I saw this cart reminds me of high school time during lab class sessions.

The mini cart is equip with, mini tank gas, a build in ‘Penunu Bunsen’(very long never use this word already) and a glass to block on the heat.

The very first step to start the whole process is to light on the Penunu Bunsen and change the fire light to sky blue which mean the highest burning state.

Next is to place the glass flask above it to boil the water on it.

Then place another type of glass flask that has a tube in the middle to connect it with another flask and covers with blended coffee powder.

Amazingly the boil water starts to pump up to the top flask and mix the water and the coffee power.

When it reaches the climax. . .

The second part of the process which is the pure coffee blended taste will flow back to the bottom flask.

This is the great man behind the coffee making process full with passion and looking on a lot of coffee tasting and telling you the taste of the bean from different countries; Terry Beh (the owner) of the shop. To me he is like a expert in coffee as in similar to those people in wine tasting.

When it was pour out, we can smell the strong taste of the coffee covering all around the table, even Ken smells it nice. The taste of the coffee totally taste different, it’s a bit orangy in taste yet very aromatic coffee bean and I enjoy myself with this cup of coffee.

Then we got serve a ‘Ti Ah Koay’ which I love it very much as I always eat it at New World Park but this homemade version by his mother, I have feel in love deeply with this serving. Its soft and taste a bit like jelly but with the Melaka sugar top on its just very good compare to the one at new world park.
