Restoran Ruby 祖传芝麻糊大王 or to be known as King of Chi Ma Wu at Pudu is one of a Chinese dessert or Chinese Tong Sui in KL to be. Waves of high praise for them upon their Sesame dessert.

King of Chi ma Wu (1)

We walk over from our pre-CNY dinner place at Restaurant Sek Yuen to here as just a stone throw away. Was told by my colleague that they are famous for a few dessert and try it out lo.

The stall looks more like herbal drink stall rather than a dessert stall.

Have you ever  seen a nice dessert art on your tong sui instead of those nice latte art. This is the first. A lot of heart and creativity in this.

The only thing stand out is Black Sesame which suits on the sign board. RM 3.50

King of Chi ma Wu (12)

I have high hopes on this Steamed Egg Custard @ RM 3.50.. However it was quite a let down in both taste and texture.

Well a dessert place that I wont return but again really depends on your taste bud. I do see alot people making take away like at least 3-10 per bag. Also again, the build up hype and comments for many people give me this set of expectation.

The Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival which falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month is one of the important festivals observed by Chinese all over the world. Many of the restaurant owners will take this advantage to showcase their individual version of mooncake taste and snowskin mooncake had been one of the latest trend to evolve over the past years. Zuan Yuan Restaurant in One World hotel is preparing their 2012 collection for this Mid-Autumm.

one world (10)_resize

Started off our tasting with the classic baked mooncake follow by snowskin version.

one world (12)_resize

Still this Supreme Mixed Nuts remains as one of the heavy weight classic version that many people love this.

one world (13)_resize

Always comes to mooncake, I still prefer my classic version with White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk. Yolk is definately a must and without it is like cooking a plate of noodle without oil. 😀

one world (11)_resize

Sweetened Red Beans with Green Tea Paste

one world (14)_resize

One that stood out very well is  White Coffee Lotus Paste with Walnuts, yes, they really do it in Coffee version that the flavour is not too strong, creamy and  mild enough not to overpower the taste of the yolk and after taste of coffee is build upon your taste bud. One of a recommended one.

one world (15)_resize

 Red Bean with nuts

one world (16)_resize

Comes to their snowskin version, they have pretty impressive range especially on the skin texture that I could not reveal it to you, certainly it stood up more than the rest. A bit soft chewy that pairs very well with the filling that they insert in.

one world (17)_resize

Mini Snow Skin – HoneyDew Paste, Orange Flavour and Black Sesame seed.

Among those 3 flavours, it stood up by itself that Honeydew taste like rock melon sweet, orange flavour with robust taste like orange skin and Black sesame is just perfect.

The mooncakes are available in beautiful gift boxes which can hold 4 or 8 pieces mooncakes, from now until 30 September 2012.  The mini snowskin mooncakes are priced at RM10 each while the regular-sized ones are priced at RM18 upwards per piece.

For order enquiries on mooncake do call their restaurant to make your bookings. and click on the form below to check out more variety mooncake that they have to offer.

Many of us know that 1-Utama is going thru major renovation especially on the old wing. From there, it had attracted many new retailing outlets to be operating in there and now if we go again, you get to see new F&B shops too. One of the newly operated outlet in the mall is this catchy shop that the front is painted red which is very eye catchy in the mall is this Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant as this lot used to be operate by Italianese which I rate one of the best in food among their other outlet.

[Update Jan 2014: NO Longer in operation]

Watami (1)

Watami is another new concept with Japanese Fusion style dining.

Watami (2)

Love the interior that painted with red, dim with orangy lights that make it a perfect comfort place to dine in.

Watami (3)

Seating arrangement also have in their own private session with a table of 2-4  .. .

Watami (4)

Watami (5)

Watami (7)

In their menu, they offer quite a good range of food ranging from classic sashimi, Japanese rool, pan fried, and others.

Watami (8)

If you dine in a group, you can opt to choose on their value saving package group set ranging from 2-4 pax set. As this round we are in a group of 4, we decided to go for the set that is charge at RM200+ with the actual value of RM282 ++ that give you lots of food to be place on the table.

Watami (9)

YOu can choose what type of drinks you want but we decided to go for 4 different types.

Watami (14)

I always love Japanese Salad because of their special dressing that pairs it very well. For ladies that decided to go for salad, this is one of a good choice!

Watami (15)

Wafu Pizza – pizza topped with terriyaki chicken that specially made in super thin slice which I called it Japanese Style, crispy on the edge of the pizza with the sauce that makes the pizza disappear within minutes after it was served.

Watami (16)

followed by an egg was serve along with . . .

Watami (17)

Udon that we get to choose in a types of 3 ..

Watami (18)

to pair along with our hotpot Shio Chanko Nabe, that is being offer in the set.

Watami (19)

First few sips of the soup taste great and addictive as it head towards the end of the base it gets more salty.

Watami (20)

One of my favorite for the night is Wafu Hitokuchi Steak, that is cook medium well, just nice to chew and dip along with the sauce to make it extra kick, yet I still prefer mine to be eaten without the sauce. . 😀

Watami (21)

Tokyo GyudonTokyo Gyudon is beef rice bowl with hot spring egg in Tokyo style. Fine slices of beef being cook along that top with half boil egg Japanese style.

Watami (22)

At the end of the meal, the sets came with 4 ice cream and again we decided to order all flavour and share among us. Vanilla ice cream, black sesame ice cream, matcha ice cream, chocolate ice cream, one of the stand out ones are Chocolate and black sesame.

Well, Watami certainly offer a nice dining experience especially with their good attentive customer service that they have train for their staff.

Food hunting now is not only hunting for place, and now it is about hunting for good deal over the internet for value meal or package. Recently before the deal end, I manage to get this deal from MadnessDeal that offer Turkish Fine Dining Food for only RM 49.90 with ori deal RM 103 that offer Lentil Soup + Lamb Doner Kebab + Pide + Desert + Drink and of course I get another RM 20 vouchure after that. So what could I ask for more in a fine dining, Iziint it is a madnessdeal? I would say it is. . . .

I have walk passby this shop alot of times yet have not really try it till this deal gives me a chance to do so. . .

Spacious yet filled with luxury ambience with soft background music with very soft spoken waitress show us our seat . .

In this kind of restaurant this is the kind of price that I am expecting. .  Well, I got discounted deals. . .:D

From the list of drinks is available, we decided to go something more of their local delight, so we tried out Turkish Coffee that has very strong in coffee aroma, more like a espresso shot in Turkish version suprisingly every sip is not that bitter. . .

Turkish Tea

When Lentil Soup was served, we look at the structure of it and the thickness we thougt that it is something off, I guess the look had proof us all wrong, out of our expectation by squeezing the lime in it and stir it, it turns out to be good! Creamy and thick in taste which is something that I do not come accros most of my meal, and I empthy this plate within seconds. . .The soup is so perfect to go along with :

Pide – Turkish Flat Bread, it is freshly baked out from the oven, soft and filled with a bit black sesame taste and I rate it as Turkish Yau Char Guai ..  Soft, chewy and dip in the soup is perfect!

Lamb Doner Kebab again prove us wrong by the look of it, and for those who love lamb without strong gamey taste of it, this would suits you good as my friend do not eat lamb but he finish this whole plate byhimself. The rice is more like ‘yau fan’ oily rice that is very aromatic, a bit dry like our chicken rice taste to eat along with the lamb and dip with the mint sauce I seriously have no complain.

then we decided to go for another extra order ‘Chicken Doner Kebab @ RM 39.90′ The chicken was grill till very soft and juicy in every bite.

I have always miss Baklava with the one that I have always eat in Melbourne and now, I have manage to find one to my liking which is not very sweet, yet teaste so perfect with mild pistachio nut taste in it, and every bite have the ooze like sugar in between without too sweet and I finish 1 n half place of this by steal half portion from my friend.

Honestly, this Turkish Fine Delight did suprise us the taste as we have underestimate them, luckily I have manage to got my MadnessDeal at their website to try out this great experience in this restaurant. I surely, do not mind to recommend this restaurant.

Looking for more deal, log on to their website: MadnessDeal.com

On our first night, arriving at Taiwan, it was all about eating and walking around as we head to business district to meet up with Pak’s friend that had arrange way before and booked a lovely Malat Buffet Steamboat restaurant (Man Tang Hong, 滿堂紅) for us, and surely they had made the right decision for us as we starve ourselves all the way from Malaysia to Taiwan just to eat their local food.

After 10 -15 minutes walk from the station that we disembark, here we are, in front of the restaurant with many people waiting around the restaurant.

restaurant 1

restaurant 1 (3)

When I walk up the stairs and the first thing that is was some young chef slicing those juicy and fresh meat and roll it into mini rolls and told my friend this is a must have section.

restaurant 1 (4)

Their interior build up is quite simple like our locals just that it looks nicer with wooden floor and hard plastic material that build around to build up some sections and the place are quite narrow and pack.

restaurant 1 (6)

This is where Pak introduce two of his best friends to all of us from left Eva and Tina.

restaurant 1 (5)

Once we were seated down, in the little menu, there are varieties of soup base to choose from, one of it that will not miss is their ‘Ma-lat Soup’ and ‘Sour Salted Vegetable Soup’.

restaurant 1 (7)

During the food ordering, of course we leave it to the experts to order and our responsible is to EAT! Drinks is free flow, with all the soft drinks Coke, Sprite and some of their local brands available in  glass bottle that store in two big fridge.

restaurant 1 (8)

One of their local food that you would want to try is the black stick (its in chinese do not know what it is called in english) that is made of something like our local muar chi add in with alot of black sesame. Taste weird at first but after the whole stick, turns out to be not bad, soft and filled with sesame taste.

restaurant 1 (9)

Item that must order which is their very own ‘Homemade Fish Paste’ by using bamboo and you can put into the soup according the size and shape you want.

restaurant 1 (10)

Comes to the meat section that had been perfectly thin slice by machine to make it instantly cook by a few dip in the hot soup are : ‘Beef Slices’

restaurant 1 (11)

‘Pork and Lamb Slices’

restaurant 1 (12)

This is what I mean, a whole thin slice of lamb, and flat it on top of the soup base and use your chopstick stir it for a while(less than 30 secs) then bring it out.

restaurant 1 (13)

This is how it must be done to ensure it is soft and not too hard. Lamb and beef definately is my choice in this range.

restaurant 1 (14)

After start off with meat section then we add in everything into the soup, while it takes time to cook, the clear soup base turns out to be quite bland in taste only manage to taste on a bit clear sour flavor but if you love something spicy or especially during winter and you want to enjoy a bit of sweat then ‘Malak’ is certainly the choice you must not miss. Spicy at 60% level where it is still edible not a few bites then you blow out flames, sour and to me its challenging to eat with the meat and ingredient but that was my main target for the whole night. Thumbs up!

restaurant 1 (15)

This is the homemade fish paste that we order again (as I do not like fish ball or paste, this turns out to be good).

restaurant 1 (21)

Lining up for sauces and revealing to us some secrets.

restaurant 1 (2)

Eating steamboat would not be perfect if you miss out the sauces. They have at least more than 15 sauces for you to go after.

restaurant 1 (16)

Then Eva and Tina show us their secret recipe of the sauces that they discover.

restaurant 1 (17)

The secret mixture of this are, peanut powder, chopped green onions, finely chopped and season garlic, a bit of chili powder, chopped chili, ONLY egg yolk and soy sauce. Result: hint of 4 flavors to enhance our taste bud and its superbly good!

restaurant 1 (18)

The packed of monkey that Eva is holding is actually a Packed of Maggie mee very cute of the packing and surely it taste like uncooked Mamee that we used to eat.

restaurant 1 (19)

During the dinner while waiting we camwhore abit and as for Eva it was funny and cute to see her talk for the first time as she just went to see dentist before meeting us.

restaurant 1 (20)

restaurant 1 (22)

It was fun to have them around as it makes the whole dinner merrier.

restaurant 1 (23)

Then after that I wasy busy eating . . .

restaurant 1 (24)

and we have around 15 pax for that night.

restaurant 1 (26)

restaurant 1 (27)

If you guys feel that the buffet is too heavy for you and would like to take something sweet by sitting there accompany your friend, for girls and guys that love ice-cream you will definitely be in heaven with the available selection as many as 12 flavors Hagen-Das.

restaurant 1 (28)

restaurant 1 (29)

First round of food was so satisfying, with great food and value that the dinner was only at NT550 = RM55 per pax, that  valid for 2 hours session, with fresh ingredient and also with great companion for a start.

If you are looking something to start off with some damage on your stomach, then this is the place worth to try. It is advise to make a booking before you go.
