I quite often hear my colleague mention about good durian puff nearby China Town, Petaling Street/ Chee Cheong Kai, Kafe Happy Meal but I have never been there myself and they always order take away and do pick up from the shop. I have tried it a few times and taste pretty good if the puffs are chill.

kafe

It was not until few weeks ago, I manage to follow them to do some take away for client and I was quite surprise that I am actually make a taking away Happy Meal from McD but nope..we make a take away at Kafe Happy Meal. We actually placed an order before we went for pick up.

kafe (2)

You wont be expecting alot of crowd but the crowd is consistant and when we reach there and wanted to buy more of the puffs its already sold out and it was only 1pm at that time. Luckily we placed an order.

kafe (3)

Besides their signature Durian Tart and Puff’s, cakes are available too but I have yet to try.

kafe (4)

They did featured in quite a number of media

kafe (5)

and the boss himself was in the shop that day. Very friendly guy as one of us were a regular there.

kafe (6)

Durian Tart RM2.50 each that perfectly baked, with the side crust is crispy and the toppings baked till cripsy with a hint of durians on it but the best part is the filling in it that had one thick layer of durian, mix with some egg cream makes it soft and aromatic. Best to eat it while it is warm and I was told if you eat it there while it is pipping hot, it would have taste even better. One word for all, eat it while its fresh!

kafe (7)

RM 2.40 / box contain of 4pcs durian puffs

With the puff is soft and at times we eat it without chill it taste not bad with strong hint of durian taste in it but last 2 weeks to prevent in from getting spoil and we put in fridge longer and took it out for our tea time, it taste perfectly good that the filling is chill like eating durian ice cream.

I prefer the Durian Tart more with its strong taste with crispy edge and durian puff sure goes well on tea break! Best to order first before you head there directly~

It was when requested that the management and client need something nice to eat and Florence had arrange knew what they like, then we went all the way downtown to make a few take away and never knew that around China Town area got many shops to hunt for. Restaurant Lai Foong

The main target of Beef Noodle was to stop by opposite Lai Fong but on that day it was close and she stop us at Restaurant Lai Fong Beef Noodle shop to make a quick take away, as in this shop have alot of hawker food to go for but we manage to try a few only.

Lai Fong

Being first time dropping at this coffee shop, it amaze me how pack the coffee shop is during lunch time.

Lai Fong (2)

Pricing as above that I would not feel its expensive with the noodle are served in quite big portion.

Lai Fong (3)

With all the beef spareparts, prepared and you can choose what you like and do not like. I always love my bowl to be all in one.

Lai Fong (4)

The boss busy preparing alot of serving as we waited for around 20 minutes to wait for our turn. By looking and smelling at the soup, I was so hungry and just could request to the boss for a small bowl of soup to try on (of course I didnt)

I used to stay in Taman Paramount when I first came down to KL which is at my aunts place, I constantly dine at those 2 coffee shop for its cheap food and economy rice and I totally never knew there is one hidden Char Siew stall right behind at it which never mention by my aunt also. Ah Khai famous Char Siew Chicken Rice was not until one of my colleague went to ‘ta pau’ char siew for boss and client to eat for lunch, then she let us try out the char siew and its heavenly good. From there, we were talking about it how good it was and must go to the stall to eat.

**UPDATE: Ah Khai Char Siew NO LONGER OPERATE at SIMONS Delight as now had move a few shops up to RESTAURANT MEI YAN. . . .starting May 2011

ah kai

It was not until last week, we decided to hunt it down for this marvelous ‘Char Siew’ that located in Section 17 hidden inside Restaurant Simon’s Delights. We manage to reach there early as the time of operating business is from 11am-1pm. . . I just cannot imagine people doing business for just 3 hours a day. It must have been brisk business.

ah kai (2)

Seeing those ‘Char Siew’ hanging there is like waving at us to order it desperately making us place our order we a portion of char siew for 3 pax a plate for 3 plates.

ah kai (3)

One of the funny thing that I ask the owner, ‘Are you Local’ cuz while I was eating there and I kept figuring, is he local or not to do such a great char siew. . and his answer Yes… I am local just that I am not as white ask you guys that work in the office, since young I got burn infront of the stove by helping parents out that’s how I turn dark or ah bu neh neh. . . I can say, a very friendly guy that talk a lot of nonsense.

ah kai (5)

‘Roast Chicken’ is quite normal, nothing much to brag about. . .

ah kai (4)

The first place of ‘Char Siew is mix with Roast Pork’ that actually we wanted to try it out too, suprisingly it turn out to be good too, with the skin roasted well till it is crispy yet do not broke our teeth, with perfect thin layer of fats in between the lean meat and dip with the chili sauce is just perfect.

After I took picture of it, this plate of combo was gone in seconds . .  till all 3 plates that got serve just gone. .  We order another round of purely char siew only.

ah kai (6)

Pure ‘Char Siew’ was one of the best char siew I have ever come accross, with it well roast char siew till it was well quoted by caramelised with the burn end layer. . You can either chose 70% fats and 30% meat as we go ahead with equal fats and meat that spread out very well, till the bite in our mouth it melts as the meat is so soft and tender till it break into slices and the fats melts along with it. . . Every piece of it, is burst with flavor and that is how we ended up ordering another two more plates purely on char siew. If you love fats like my friend, go for the heavy weight more fats less meat..you will definately enjoy it!

At the end of the meal, the coffee shop were sardin pack with people ordering char siew and tapau, we even order a few take away back to office for tea time. Surely I am going back for more, we consider it quite cheap, with so many order and it is not more than RM10. Worth Recommending this place if you are a char siew lover~

Do go early to avoid dissapointment . . .

A recommended Char Siew place~

Korean food, at times its hard to resist when comes to BBQ. To me, their signature is always BBQ yet when I went to Korea that time, it was not the case but in Malaysia, it looks like this are the kind of food that we could get, all under one roof. Honestly, if you ask me where is the nice Korean BBQ food so far on the island, definitely I am recommending this shop. Being one of the latest addition into the market it had gain its reputation quite fast and quite recognise by alot of my friends too.

As I always heard to get good Korean food was some where around Ampang but then my buddy Yeong brought me to this shop at Sri Hartamas and then now they had operated in Penang. My parents not being a big fan of grill stuff then I decided to bring and expose them to the little great environment they have there.

Their decoration is sure the same as the one they had in Hartamas.

Even the interior. The restaurant is quite pack and it is advise to do a reservation before you proceed, if not you will of course be seated at this lower ground. The very friendly boss is from Korea.

Ground floor setting is different from upstairs.

Upstairs they do have their own private room that would best for birthday celebration, client or family gathering.
This would be the place which we were seated. A very traditional Korean concept that makes you feel like you are part of the culture.
If you are a Saju lover, then you would not want to miss their selection, temptation to order.

For me, I am 100% sure that I do not know how to read Korean yet with the translation of English on the dish would not be perfect with picture illustration. It is easy for me to ask my parents what they want to eat and just point without actually have to explain to them what are the sauces or how it looks like.
Variety of meats are available and with different seasoning too.
Before the mains for serve, your table will be filled with all those small little appetizer to start of with, if you find any that you like, you can just refill any of the choices or get the whole set refill at your desk at no time.
You will be only left a very small place for you to ngam ngam put your own cutleries only.
Being a pork ribs lover in BBQ pit which is a must order item, ‘Hanbang Dweji Wang Galbi’ RM35
The pork ribs was well marinated and
The Pork Ribs was well marinated balace with some fats and meat, and after BBQ’ing for a while the meat is tender and its juicy. If you wrap it with lettuce and dip with the sesame sauce will add in the extra kick in it.
Being a fan of ‘SonDuBu JjiGae’ the taste is very appealing. Not that spicy as the colour looks like yet a bit of the sour taste accompany by a bowl of rice is a great companion. RM17
To me in BBQ, lamb is always a must for me which is ‘Yang Gogi’ marinated evenly and was cook perfectly by the helper. BBQ to its softness and the taste of the lamb is there with oozing of the after BBQ juice that had created by the lamb on the grill pan is just something we enjoy very much. RM35

The perfectly grill lamb.
Normal eater like my parents, they always prefer to have chicken, just in case they do not know how to enjoy the rest of the order. ‘Yang-nyum Dak-Gal-Bi’ RM27

After enjoying the first 2 great dish, then this had become something like so so. It would be better if they serve this first at least your taste bud can try something from okay to good.
At the end of the meal, you will be enjoying a comlimentary watermelon but we were enjoying our great meal there. My parents would sure returning to this restaurant again.

This is my second visit to this restaurant. My friend introduce me to this place beginning of the year. Then suddenly thought of eating Dorae Korean BBQ and thought of this restaurant.

The boss and the son is very kind and friendly. One thing you must know that the staff here are alot. Really alot.

You will be given a bowl of soup to start of with. The soup is nice, filled with cabbage and taste abit like miso soup.
The garlic in olive oil is heated in the BBQ pitt.
Jason is so excited till he has to msg his friends about this.
For the starter, there are alot of variety to choose from, as what I remembered in the beginning of the year, the starter was not this choices, they have potato salad. Then I was told that they change occasionally. To keep fresh ideas so that customer don eat the same thing.
This is the ‘Ginseng Chicken Porridge’. I thought it would be very nice, strong with ginseng taste. I can say that, it is tasteless, it is not what I expected, would have some taste of Ginseng and the wine thing. This dish is totally out. Would not recommend to friends or readers.
This is the ‘Korean Pancake’. It is someting like other ordinary pancake, the taste is different. It is something simple and nicely cook. I would recommend this dish.
I remembered that they ‘Pork’ is nice. why is it nice, see the process then you will understand why. First Grilled…then…
Turn the side, so the other half can be cooked
Cheng Cheng Cheng…….It is done, nicely cooked by one of the helper..Thank you!!! The pork that they cooked out, is juicy, and with the sauce that they have marinated, is strongly preserved. So when you take one bite of it, you can feel the softness, sweetness of the marinated sauce and dip with the sauce given, is totally perfect.
This is the ‘Lamb’ my personal favourite. Cook with the marinated herbs that they have deep seasoned it.
The nicely golden brown yet not so burn lamb is ready to be eaten….. I like this alot because when you bite it, you can taste the herbs and the marinated sauce something like teriyaki sauce in your mouth. The lamb that they use is so soft, not like some satay stalls you bit it cant bite through the skin of it.
The best way to eat these BBQ is to take the cabbage they put on table, then wrap on it and eat it in. I will just taste so so so nicee….
This is the ‘Beef’. Disappointed with this 1, as the slices of the skin is a bit thick. Scared that it might be overcooked or never cooked. You know la..with the ‘bangla’ at work. Hardly communicate

This is what it had came out. Disappointed. Asking us what we want, we requested medium rare. Based on the picture and the real thing was just in front of me, I would say this looks a bit like ‘ Bak Kua‘. did not manage to finish this dish because not nice, hard, no juicy. You have to look at the meat when they cook, how you like it just take it up instead of BBQ’ing in there for too long till so dry.

This I totally do not have idea what is it call as it is the complimentary of the restaurant. Looks like chawanmushi, but does not taste like one.

Jason is like Hahahaha…we also manage to finish all the food. We really GILA… 1 thing for sure most of us will like, the service here is amazing, 2 tables for 1 waiter. So it is like lightning fast if you need anything. Standby just for you. With all the lovely dish, we do not need to cook ourselves, they are the chef, specially trained, would not say professionally.
