How  many of you will turn down a review or when a friend ask you to eat vegetarian or organic food? For me, I its a new discovery, cuz often on the month of Nine Emperor festival its very hard for me to locate nice organic or vegetarian place in KL as not as widely celebrated compare to Penang whereby alot of vegetarian stalls are set up every where. Chef Lim Organic Kitchen.

[Update Jan 2014: close Down]

Organic (1)

Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to visit Chef Lim Organic Kicthen, and how to turn down? I am a food lover in many ways as I always enjoy my meal and learn to eat and dine accordingly. As fore say by many people, organic and vegetarian food will head towards very mild or near tasteless food as one of the reason its healthy food. Never meant to be alot of taste, eat light and simple.

Organic (2)

Chef Llim Organic Kitchen open its door to public since last year September 2011 at The Scots Garden, Old Klang Road and it had starting to gain popularity among organic lover and slowly public are accepting the taste of it after learning the way to eat it and the benefits of eating healthy.

Organic (3)

A place that well lit up with some English interior to be spill upon.

Organic (6)

Many people have the perception that organic food would be expensive including myself too. When I see the price of the menu and what is being offered I find it very reasonable.

Organic (8)

One of the reason that Chef Lim Organic Kitchen gaining its popularity among many vegetarian and monks are the fundamentals, freshness and healthiness are assured, long serving PURE vegetarian food where no egg and “five pungent spices” eg: garlic, onion, chives, spring onion and leek is used in food preparing.

Organic (9)

Fruit Tea (Large) @ RM17.90 with a few types of fresh fruit being cut and blend then serve warm is something new to me. As mention by the chef is good for digestion and alot of customer prefer it hot. They do serve cold too . . Love the taste of it~

Organic (10)

Brown rice @ RM2.00 per bowl  that I often take during my meals on vegetarian. Surely it taste very bland and not aromatic as those white rice often eat at home.

Organic (11)

Cukawamee @ RM6.90, one of the reason its green colour that many people ask and thought its colouring but its not. Its the effect of  being soaked in sugar syrup and the duration makes it green.

Organic (12)

Golden Beancurd – Large @ RM18.90 – beancurd that mixed with pumpkin, and ridge gourd

Organic (13)

something unique in the soup that add on some extra flavour is this dish . .Coconut Tomyam @ RM17.90

Organic (14)

Herbal Mushroom Soup – Large @ RM18.90

Organic (15)

One of my favourite is this Basil Leaf Mushroom – Large @ RM18.90 that had been stir fried till the flavours blend in pretty well . .

Organic (16)

Another of my favorited is Kapitan Fish – Small @ RM14.90 that is well cook with the gravy is just perfect, not too spicy yet hint of sour at the end of the taste, clever to use eggplant, ladies finger and some other vegetable to make this curry mixture out.

Organic (17)

Yam Basket @ RM18.90

Organic (18)

Lo Han Chai @ Large @ RM19.90

Organic (19)

Kam Heong Mushroom – Large @ RM18.90 as mushroom had been carefully slices and deep fried first then follow by pan friend with kam heong till all the aroma blend well. Some of you might not like the taste yet the crispiness is there.

Organic (20)

Very seldom you will see organic food preparing Italian food because of the ingredient involve yet this caught us by surprise that their Classic Cabonara @ RM14.90 turns out to be good too, with a bit milky creamy texture, spaghetti is springy.

Organic (21)

This would be one of my highly recommended dish for organic or vegetarian as Fruit Pizza @ RM19.90 being baked to perfection with its slight thin crust of every bite with crips, dressing on top just match the taste of the fruits being finely cut and added on. One of their top seller.

Organic (22)

Hawaiian Pizza @ RM21.90 topped with capsicum, tomato and pineapple.

One of the reason their pizza turns out to be top seller as the cheeze being carefulyl source and imported from Australia and it turns out to be cheezy awesome!

Organic (23)

Craving for meat then Grill Beef Steak might be one of your selection as again, being well deep fried and special ingredient from the chef to make the texture taste good! @ RM22.90

Organic (24)

You will be surprise on the taste that how the chef did this desert without egg and milk. Mango pudding @ RM5.90

Organic (25)

This is what happens when there are 2 groups of people, as all being the guys are being busy by capturing all those nice food and as for the girls are all on a table to discuss on recent issue. . :p

If you are ask me where to get nice organic food, this restaurant certainly now being added into one of my recommended list.

For the dishes that had been cook out, I am totally impress by the chef little experience and most definately is because he is super young to be able to cook this kind of organic meal out!

Remark: please do note that this place is not suitable for people who have strong taste bud as you will find this place near tasteless, for vegetarian and organic lover, this place would be a recommended restaurant!

*quite surprise that they are HALAL outlet!

As previously we were busy shopping all day long (click here for last shopping post), till it start drizzling outside then we came into Siam Paragon – Ootoya Japanese Restaurant for a stroll to see how a shopping mall different from Malaysia.

After a short stroll, we were all starting to get hungry as Goft plan to bring us to street food opposite this mall, because it rained, we had to dine in. As we scout around for nice food, Goft recommed us 2 place which is  a place for steak Tony Romas, which is a big no no as it is available in our country . .then next she suggested:

ootoya (1)

After reaching the place and just by looking at their displaying set outside the restaurant, all of us become hungry.

ootoya (2)

Ootoya Japanese Restaurant that is one of her favorite place to dine also which is located directly next to the food court, that had this little open concept area nearby the food court. After I google up I also found that they have a few branches in Singapore.

ootoya (3)

Did not know there are so many people, and we were told to be seated and wait for another 4 more numbers then reach us. While waiting, and all of them were so hungry, and have to start hunting in menu to find what we want, and once we were seated down, the waiter did not even move away as we were pointing here and there for the order.

ootoya (4)

Price wise pretty reasonable that ranging from 120 bhat – 500 bhat.

ootoya (5)

I like their green tea because there are a slight burnt taste of brown rice that I always prefer my green tea to have.

Every year during 5th day of 5th month on the lunar calendar, I am always excited on it as it is Dragon Boat Festival that will traditional eat Zong Zi or what I usually call (Bak Chang) which is a type of traditional Chinese Food, many Chinese during this festival at some of the homes will do some homemade bak chang by using ingredient such as pork, lotus seed, lotus leaves, salted duck egg, white or brown rice.

This festival was to commemorating the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet from the kingdom of Chu who lived during the Warring States period. For more (read here – wikipedia)

I have always been a big fan of rice dumpling especially the home made ones, as it is rich in ingredients. Usually during this festival, my auntie would make some and give around the neighbours and there are at one time, my auntie forgot that the neighbor went travel and I had 2 weeks of bak chang! (after that got phobia of it) but till now still in lurve with the taste of it.

IMG_8693

To me, I only always enjoy eating as I know making bak chang is easy as it involves a lot of work, but the tricky part is tying it up, that not until recently, I get an opportunity to attend a rice dumpling workshop by ‘Chef Lo Tian Sion’ that each of us were given a huge space in the kitchen table to play around, and let me tell you, it was fun!

IMG_8709

The ingredients for the night are, white and brown rice, sugar, salt, oil, some powder . . .

IMG_8716

and the very main ingredient are usually customise with your own choice, but for tonight are chicken breast meat, sea cucumber, mushroom, salted duck egg yolk, dry scallop and a few more.

IMG_8711

Fresh lotus leaves are needed to wrap on the rice dumpling.

IMG_8717

The chef are ready, are you ready~

IMG_8722

Pour all the ingrediant into the bowl and mix it with your hand.

then after mix it thoroughly and place the 3 lotus leave at the bottom and spread it out, next add in the mix brown and white rice as the base then add in the main ingredient on top.

backchang 1

my best of wrap then the chef said that its not tight and solid enough. Gosh~ you really need the trip or master the skills to wrap on it.

backchang 2

Tadaaa….7th attempt still fail and it was the assist of the chef that helps us to tie on it and Ester also did it.

Our rice dumpling are going into the steam, as I just got to know that it need to be in boiling water for 8 hours. (which previously I thought for only a few hours)

Kota Damansara had recently had become one of my hunting ground for food. With a lot of restaurant, kopitiam and café’s mushrooming around the neighborhood, one thing I can say that their food in that area so is so far so good until I got expose to this small shop in the area. Famous for its seafood and its fried hot wok dish and among its local neighborhood, the taste had even attracted stars as far as Hong Kong to dine in here at Mei Chi Xuan Restaurant.

Mei Chi Xuan

The shop is located in the heart of Kota Damansara.

Mei Chi Xuan (2)

This is what I mean that the shop had attracted crowd from far with the Hong Kong Starz in Super Trio show had dine here before yet Hoh Chiak local tv food hunter had featured them too.

Mei Chi Xuan (3)

Here we are, to try out their menu specially made by the chef for Chinese New Year. The chef want us to do photo shoot session first as I cannot wait to eat it. The aroma pilling up the room is just full with temptation.

Mei Chi Xuan (4)

‘Sea Cucumber with Seafood and Mushroom on a Dragon Boat’ had already amazed me with its very original food presentation.

Mei Chi Xuan (5)

Carefully crafted dragon head and tail with the broccoli decorated by the side and the rest of the ingredient sitting on top of it make it look like a floating boat. All of us were so impress. I always thought that only can see what those TV cooking show chef can do but never really on a local restaurant like this, which is not even a 4 star restaurant.

Mei Chi Xuan (6)

Filled with chewy, juicy sea cucumber, scallop, prawns, mushroom, carrots and make the aroma blended so well. Broccoli was freshly cook to my likings. This dish was cook for the reason healthy eating. (from RM150)

Mei Chi Xuan (7)

‘Braised Pork Trotter with Mushroom and Lotus Seed’ (RM28 onwards). The pork trotter was cook to perfection until the pork meat is soft, yet not too starchy flavorful gravy that shower upon covers over mushroom and lotus seed, yet by putting one small piece of the fats will just melts on your mouth.

Mei Chi Xuan (8)

‘Brown Rice with Waxed Meat and Egg Yolk’ (from RM50)

Mei Chi Xuan (9)

Last dish had attracted me more on the taste as when it was serve, the aroma of the wax meat smells so niceeee~ . Not till the chef mention that, let me show you the hidden jewel, and when he cuts open, is like you seen in the TVB cooking drama series, when it cuts open the aroma just burst out even stronger and then the salty duck egg yolk was hidden in the middle like making it shining (I meant tvb style) but this gives me that kind off feeling yet you can smell the saltiness yet strong nice fragrance of the dish that makes us just want to walap the whole plate.

The rice is fried till just nice which is not too dry yet eat it with the wax meat is just perfect combination and the salty egg yolk just adds on the extra kick of it.

It was a great experience in this shop and I am surely looking forward on their normal menu which other customer had order and I can even smells the taste of it when I walk pass to toilet. Just lovin it~
