One of the famous street food drink or common street dessert that we constantly enjoy is Cendol. As over the years some maintain on a classic note of the dessert yet some decided to evolve it yet Lipao Cendol at Jalan Hang Kasturi evolve the packaging for the convinience of drinkers.

If you are here, do try on thier signature Cendol series as I find the gula melaka that they use have its own unique taste itself. Not too sweet, yet can drink on the go. Smart to serve it in a cup. not your usual cendol in KL.

I have been working nearby for quite a while and everytime I drove pass by here, its always pretty crowded at this Rojak Stall that you will hardly miss with 2 vans parked side by side with one selling Cendol and another oen selling Rojak. As far as I know this stall had been here for donkey years already and attracted many loyal customers around the area.

The term rojak is pretty different when it comes to states as in my hometown we called it Pasembur and Rojak is those with prawn paste and fruits.

rojak (1)

They do not have a proper seating or tables as there are only a few plastic chairs available and sitting next to their van as the table to eat or when it get pack you can see many people standing around eating or even there are customers taking it to their car and eat.

rojak (5)

Here is pretty well know for 2 types of rojak which is the classic and another version is Rojak Mee means with yellow noodle in it.

rojak (6)

Here is Rojak Mee @ RM 3.50 if I am not mistaken.

rojak (7)

Serve along with ingredients such as floury cake, sliced cucumber, hard boiled egg, fried tofu, bean sprout and fried crackers. I prefer mine without the noodle as I find the noodle spoil the taste of the gravy. This stall still not the best as the peanut sauce here is quite sweet for me, I prefer another stall which is in Seapark nearby Maybank.

rojak (8)

Besides the food, you can try out another type of Cendol which is slightly gives you different flavour compare to those in Penang or Melaka. For a bowl of Rm1.20 you really cannot expect alot. Again its just too sweet for me. Not my type of cendol.  Shaved ice is still pretty rough and the red bean they use is quite moist and soft. Well, I just finish 3 sip then I am done . .

Some of you might find this stall is pretty good. Really depends on your own taste.

Last weekend when I went back to Penang, I do not feel that I am original from Penang. Ken brought all of us for a food hunt and street photography equip myself with a camera and went to all the food places I have not went before. I thought of doing it a random post and a new discovery place for me that must share with all of you. One of them is  Ais Tingkap.

ais tingkap

It was hot sunny afternoon and Ken decided to bring us for a refreshment break as most of us would definitely know Penang Famous Cendol located at Penang Road but another hidden gem which is hidden at Lebuh Tamil (a road next to it) which is called Ais Tingkap (Window Sherbet) operating with other stalls, the English name got translate by a foreign guy. The name is very catchy and I asked the guy why is the stall called Ais Tingkap and the Indians told me that it was first operate by his grandfather way back in the 1930’s. He serve the drink behind a glass panel and people came by and make a take away taking through the window and that is how the name originate from. Now the grandson had taken it over.

ais tingkap (2)

Then I got to know that Chinese we do have Leong Cha to cool our body down and for Indians they do have this to cool their body down with the ingredient mixing in it.

ais tingkap (3)

Now this stall is operate by his grandson, and this is the only place where you can find Ais Tingkap in Malaysia. Its nice to see and nice to drink, but when you see the preparation you will be amaze how many ingredients are added in.

ais tingkap (4)

Shaved ais like ice kacang are been made.

ais tingkap (5)

Then he shove every glass with the ice

ais tingkap (6)

add this unique ingredient called ‘Getah Anggur’ which is an abstract from a tree, and the purpose of it is to cool our body. . It looks a bit like chewy jelly.

ais tingkap (7)

Next mixed with Basil seeds that looks like Frog egg

ais tingkap (8)

add on with syrup (as our version is Kurang Manis – Less Sweet)

ais tingkap (9)

Add with coconut water

ais tingkap (10)

Next spray with his very own secret ingredient that he told me cannot reveal out.. . . Smells good!

ais tingkap (11)

Last to top up with coconut meat.

ais tingkap (12)

A complete version of Ais Tingkap for ONLY RM1.20 that seriously caught me by suprise as it involves so many steps and I thought it would cost at least RM2, for big packet it is only RM1.50.

ais tingkap (13)

The taste is OMG. Very cooling with the shaved ice that melts into our mouth, fragrant with rosy flavor and the taste is very unique by itself, every taste we sip get to suck on the getah anggur and the frog egg. In this hot weather, we are definitely enjoying yourselves over this little glass of drink. With me, Bernice, my brother and the rest . . . Great Stopover! or I would say a new Recommended place by me if you were to go by Penang.

ais tingkap (14)

Directly infront of the stall, this guy selling Cucur Udang and his business is  very good. Non Stop frying when we were there.

Another great new discovery.
