Restaurant Homes Chef Garden – Famous Traditional Chinese Home’s Recipes by the name itself already know its a homecook style version which is my friend’s mom is the main chef behind the whole cooking. Her mom inherit the recepi from the family and pass down and now, we are able to enjoy good home cook food mostly on nyonya style. Manage to pop by on my last trip back to Penang as this outlet just operated less than a month and already gaining popularity to family crowd.

Selection and price in here are pretty decent. As my friend is working on the day, so we skip the menu and ask her to shower us her best dish, and she scolded me, nearly everything is good as its homecook version. I was like *ohhh then I requested what is best for the day.

home chef garden (5)

Here it comes with our first dish. Tophat (Pai Tee) @ RM 4.80. Add on with jiu hu char top with crispy garlic and freshly fried base. Eat it while is fresh as I did leave my second one for quite a while, as its not crips anymore, become sligtly soggy after the jiu hu char create some water in it. I munch the whole thing in one bite and taste good, best of all must add on the sambal to add in extra kick.

home chef garden (6)

Inchi Kabin @ RM 17

home chef garden (7)

Typical Jiu Hu Char ingredients must be finely slice or chop and not over cook yet can still bite on the sengkuang and moist upon serving. Just as how I like it.  RM 18

home chef garden (8)

Pork lover must not miss this. Too Kha Chor cook to perfection that the fats and meat are soft and juicy yet the taste of it is awesome. Slightly strong in vinegar taste yet pair it well with my rice. Highly recommended! @ RM 15

home chef garden (9)

I used to love this alot as I cant take too much of it as I am allergy to the combination. Kiam Chai Ark (salted vegie Duck soup) its a very well balance soup, with sourish taste, slightly pepper spicy and soup is strong in salted vegie taste. Love it. @ RM 17

home chef garden (10)

Too Thor Thng Penang version is more towards white pepper spicy as she added in small little pepper balls to cook along, with pork to make the soup taste sweet and too thor is wash clean without the strong musk taste. Dipping with some soy sauce and chew it just nice. @ RM 15

home chef garden (11)

Prawn Coconut Milk is something new to me, shower with creamy coconut gravy and fresh chewy prawns with bitter gourd taste is just unique and good. @ RM 15

home chef garden (12)

Steam Fish is one of the fast moving product on the meal as the soup base is sourish enough to make the girls take more and fine chopping garlic cook along and the fish is fresh. @ RM 38

Kai Lan with Salted fish @ RM 14

I don really like to eat this desert but I must rate it as Super star of the desert is this Bur Bur Cha Cha/Bubur chacha. One of the best I have come across so far, not too creamy in coconut taste yet  ingredients like taro, sweet potato, carrot and some other items being boil till its near soft. Perfect and its cook fresh on every dining sessions with limited quantity.

If you do plan to dine there, remember to call in and reserve x amount of bowls you need. We were lucky as these were the last 2 bowls. As she have many orders specially to take away for this desert only. – Highly Recommended!

Starting from tomorrow, muslims around the world will start fasting for one month and most of the restaurants are taking opportunity to offer best food at the right price. One of the place that we came across which is hidden at Ampang (seriously hidden) which is Intai-Intai Restaurant. Intai-Intai Restaurant Ramahdan Buka Puasa Buffet RM 48 nett. I was curious and ask the owner why this name was chosen, as he said, intai means peek therefore you need to take a peek to know where is the restaurant, the restaurant served Halal Thai food .. . .

Intai

Intai – intai offers customer to enjoy in their natural environment with sound of cricket, birds chirping yet a romantic ambiance during at night.

Intai (2)

Let’s intai (peek) what does the restaurant have to offer and the nature of the area and a quick tour of the restaurant.

A pond was originally there.

Tables are well decorated too.

Intai (9)

Intai-Intai actually offer Thai food (that I thought is malay restaurant) which is manage by 2 friendly brothers that host us with the wonderfull evening.

Last weekend, I had a very short trip back to Penang to help my friend photo shoot on his new range of food that going to promote for the next 6 months which I have previously blog about it (click here to view) and while I was there, I manage to think back to find a place that it had been long time have never dine there. Kedai Kopi Chip Heng

When I was a kid, my dad used to bring me here, that I used to bugged him on weekends, as it was quite a distance from Penang to mainland to hunt for this meal and at that time I was addicted to their soup taste, sour veggie.

Yam Rice

When I reach there, I remember one of the shop used to be my favourite but I could not remember which is the one as there are 2 shops side by side selling the same thing but different taste, as I lost my memory, I just chin chai entered one of the shop which turns to be Kedai Kopi Chip Heng.

Yam Rice (2)

What they sell is called, Yam Rice (one of their main selling item) to go along with soup that filled with mixture of pig’s spare part.

Yam Rice (4)

You can choose the parts that want to be added in into your bowl or mix everything ( I love it to be mix of everything) in the small bowl boil it for a while till its cook, then they will add the soup after that.

Yam Rice (3)

Yam Rice (5)

This is ‘Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Innards’ with one of their special taste was the soup base, which is created much from salted veggie (Kiam Chai – in hokkien) and it had been quite some time since I last taste it and find it another feel like sour plum which happens to be quite strong which me and my friend find it quite weird but as I remember the when I was a kid it doesn’t taste like that (more on sour veggie).

Yam Rice (6)

Then the auntie introduce us their ‘Tau Yew Bak’ that had been stew for quite some time till the pork intestine its very soft and a bit chewy and if the meat would have been softer a bit it would have been perfect. I just love the taste of the Tau Yew as it similar to my grandma’s cooking that I had long missed. We just finish this bowl within seconds.

Yam Rice (7)

If you are in this coffee shop and ordered white rice it would be just very weird (would be more like ordering Wan Tan Mee without Wantan) as they are famous for their ‘Yam Rice’.

Love the Yam Rice that have diced yam cubes are deep – fried to a crisp, add in sauteed dried shrimps to cook with the rice till its not too dry is just delicious to go along with the soup.

Yam Rice (8)

The best part is all the pig spare part must dip with their special ‘In house Chili’ to add in the kick of it.

After finishing the meal, I am still not satisfied that it doesn’t give me the umph of it then went to the next stall to tap au back their taste and while I was at home after reheat it again, I just found out that that’s the shop I wanted to go with its strong taste of sour veggie. Both shop also had their own customer with different taste wise, hence for me, I love the one next to this shop and as I remember, my cousin loves this shop compare to the one I like. (depends on your taste bud)

Total damage for 2 pax is RM15 including drinks which we find it very cheap.

Oyster King had been one of the latest additions to the miniature stall in The Gardens. Without getting invites from Coco (thank you), I did not even realize that there is a stall around there. Despite of the name, you can guess that something that they cook would involve oyster. Being a fan of small small oyster surely I am up for this. I just cannot take big juicy oyster like what have been offering at Japanese or Seafood buffet.

I was there early and it was the usual few that we always had the outing together and Coco is arranging with the owner for us to occupied the place. As the time pass, more and more people showed up and this is my very first review that we had so many blogger at one shot, so stim, till to the extend we occupied 90% of the place. Then we were like alamak, how she going to do business la~

This place not only offer ala cart, but they do offer in set meals.

I just love the clip so cute and hoping and silently thinking to plot steal it back.

It didn’t took long for the owner to prepare all the food.

If you are a big fan of ‘Fried Oyster’ as known as ‘Oo Chien’ (Hokkien) back in my hometown Pg, then you MUST NOT miss this. I have not eaten fried oyster for ages yet still hunting for it. Well fried till some sides of the egg are crispy, a lil spicy and sour that makes the taste blend in well topping up with fresh oyster in the end is something we keep eating. I ate 3 plates of this charge at RM6 per plate. Recommended~

‘Fried Carrot Cake’ that had always been one of my favorite too when I was young, remembered when I was young watch the street movie theater and eat this and rojak. Still wonders does it still happen now. I prefer the carrot cake to chopped into smaller pieces and add on more garlic but this is as good as it taste. Fried with wok hei, and the pieces are cook evenly. RM5

‘Teow Chew Fried Noodle’ RM6

‘Wun Chai Ko’

‘Pumpkin Cake’ RM5

‘Dried Oyster Glutinous Rice’ RM6

A friendly host like Ms.Joan is hard to find. Thanks for hosting us~

Within a week, the K&K and her gang introduce me to eat Duck rice again. As what they said it is much nicer that then 1 in Taman Desa. Then wokayyy..just go lah, with lots of people following then reach that area. It is at Cheras nearby UCSI college there as I recognize the place. It was lucky that the parking space was just nice for the 3 of the cars.

It was early when we reach the shop, was like around 12pm and already half full. The people ta pau’ing, the queue is building up.

We manage to get a big table and guess what. Within 15 minutes after we were seated, the ppl just flock into the kopitiam and turn it into like pasar with suddenly so many ppl and so noisy.

If you feel that, duck is not enough for you, the side order area looks tempting. With the don know what and what as I know how to point and eat.

The duck was gone fast.

The person is working hard by chopping and chopping non stop, busy working during lunch time. Wonder if he can use his hand to chop a person to make he/she faint instantly.

Ahhhh….here is my favourite. Never eat duck rice without this ‘Chai Boey ’ I know how to call it in Hokkien only. Sorry haa..cantonese a bit poor. The taste is veli good ah..the soup is sour to the taste, abit spicy with the dry chili, the sour veggie is cook to perfection. Ngam ngam soft. A good soup to start off with, open up appetite.
Here comes the ‘Char Siew’. By looking at it I was like mouth watering. When got serve onto the table, I was the first 1 to tax the char siew. The meat is soft, with the fats thin layer and layer makes it so good but don really like the char siew sauce.
The ‘Roast Pork’ is very nice also. The curst is crispy, the pork is soft and bite already feel juicy abit. Not so dry. Again, the layer of fats is just good.

Lastly of course the main dish had arrive. The ‘Duck’. I must say that the duck meat here taste much better than the 1 in Taman Desa. The meat is tender and soft yet you can bite the roast taste out of it. The duck aroma is there, the skin is good till I was like walaping it non stop.

Over all the food here is totally good. As I get to dine for free again, was treated by one friend and the total bill came around RM145 as I know and was share by around 9 people. All the food is serve 2 each. I feel that the price is reasonable. . Highly Recommended
