It has been long long time since I last went to Petaling Street for food and walk around the area. I think it was 3 years ago since I last visited the place.

Petaling Street or Chee Cheong Kai is know as Chinatown located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is infamous for pirated clothes and accessories along with bootleg DVDs and CDs. Petaling Street however does not exclusively offer pirated products. Haggling is a common sight here and the place is usually crowded with locals as well as tourists.

The area has dozens of restaurants and food stalls, serving local favourites such as Hokkien mee, ikan bakar (barbecued fish), asam laksa and curry noodles. Traders here are mainly Chinese but there are also Indian, Malay, and Bangladeshi traders. (source Wikipedia)

If you wish to stay around the area, there are many budget hotel available too.

One of the food stalls that used to be very famous was this ‘Ikan Bakar’ that is located in front bank. The last time I dine here was about 6 years ago that it was so famous that we have to order first as usually need to wait for around 1 hour and we stroll around the place to see any nice thing to hunt. .

Now the order came less than 5 minutes and the place was not as pack as before.

BBQ under this hot stove pit.

chinatown (8)

I ordered the ‘Sting Ray, Lala, Squid and Prawns’ RM16 for small. The taste was not as good compare to last time, as it was very spicy (at least I need 4 glass of water to cool it off) and this round, the bottom was burn, and the whole spicy dish is filled a bit with that flavour and the sambal taste is not as nice as it used to be.

chinatown (9)

When I always come to this area, one of the drink that I will not miss and it is always pack with people is this ‘Air Mata Kucing’ RM1.80 per cup. It is sweet, refreshing and filled with longan at the base of it. A recommended drink if you do go there.

I quite often hear my colleague mention about good durian puff nearby China Town, Petaling Street/ Chee Cheong Kai, Kafe Happy Meal but I have never been there myself and they always order take away and do pick up from the shop. I have tried it a few times and taste pretty good if the puffs are chill.

kafe

It was not until few weeks ago, I manage to follow them to do some take away for client and I was quite surprise that I am actually make a taking away Happy Meal from McD but nope..we make a take away at Kafe Happy Meal. We actually placed an order before we went for pick up.

kafe (2)

You wont be expecting alot of crowd but the crowd is consistant and when we reach there and wanted to buy more of the puffs its already sold out and it was only 1pm at that time. Luckily we placed an order.

kafe (3)

Besides their signature Durian Tart and Puff’s, cakes are available too but I have yet to try.

kafe (4)

They did featured in quite a number of media

kafe (5)

and the boss himself was in the shop that day. Very friendly guy as one of us were a regular there.

kafe (6)

Durian Tart RM2.50 each that perfectly baked, with the side crust is crispy and the toppings baked till cripsy with a hint of durians on it but the best part is the filling in it that had one thick layer of durian, mix with some egg cream makes it soft and aromatic. Best to eat it while it is warm and I was told if you eat it there while it is pipping hot, it would have taste even better. One word for all, eat it while its fresh!

kafe (7)

RM 2.40 / box contain of 4pcs durian puffs

With the puff is soft and at times we eat it without chill it taste not bad with strong hint of durian taste in it but last 2 weeks to prevent in from getting spoil and we put in fridge longer and took it out for our tea time, it taste perfectly good that the filling is chill like eating durian ice cream.

I prefer the Durian Tart more with its strong taste with crispy edge and durian puff sure goes well on tea break! Best to order first before you head there directly~

When comes to public holiday or long weekend, this is the place that we locals Penang will try to avoid. First we will stuck in the jam. Second if we do go, its hard to find a parking spot. Third, if manage to find a parking spot its you have to fight for tables with all the local tourist crowd.
Gurney Hawker center actually had emerge as one of the hottest tourist spot for local Penang Hawker Food. You can get all the Penang favourites, Laksa, Char Koey Teow, Prawn Mee, Rojak and many more all in one area. With its open air concept and crowded area is what the ambiance that most tourist is looking for.
Last weekend which is Christmas weekend I was back to hometown and went to hunt my missing ‘Ma Zhi which I pronounce as Muar Chee very much.

This is the Muar Chi stall which is located in the middle court area (middle location) next to the famous Char Koey Teow.

Busy preparing customer order and I have to wait mine.

Tadaaaa….my fav muar chi. Its warm and soft covered with smooth blended peanut sand crush top with fried onion is something I enjoy eating and I order it big just for myself RM2.

Next Rojak’ of course in my list and by being one of my favourite rojak stall this is one the chosen beside GP Soon stall did not open and the one my all time favourite Macallum Street that added dry shrimps and peanuts..

Love my rojak to be a lil spicy and that is how he stir and stir.

and again tAdaaa……. my Rojak without cucumber and added meng kuang. Yummm….RM 5.
Again, this weekend I am going back to Penang for my cousins wedding and of course this place will sure be a disaster place again that is going to be pack with local and foreign tourist. For tourist, this place is a must go place to eat and visit. You will enjoy the atmosphere there. You will not get the best food here but just a great spot to be.

Our very first stop for the night is Mong Kok. Where by a lot of things to be bought and see. Still remember one of the movie which is One Night in Mong Kok.. This area had always been like famous with gang triads and always about ‘Pek Yau’ but that was all about in the movie.

We took the MRT from our hotel to Mong Kok and it was like a few stations away.

When I walk out from the entrance of the MRT I got so shocked that the whole street is packed with people and damm noisy.

The street was closed up and it was Friday night that makes it packed like sardines and you get to see a lot of street performance.

by This guy where you put in some coins on the yellow or green thing he had prepared, then he will move. It is exactly like a machine. He was standing there so still even though we kacau him, he wont smile or laugh. Professional~

This is not a street performer, just a person who give out brochure but then had done it like they are one. They are promoting slimming packages.

By this ah pek, we respected him a lot, that even his voice out of tone so much and the way he sings will give you nightmare but we support for his courage. The best part is not only him is about his dog also. Sit there till a fake dog and he know’s when to bark when the singer sing chorus.
In this area, not only 1 ah pek doing it, there are a few other ah pek doing street performance.

Hong kong is all about advertising, and competing whose sign board is bigger to get awareness but of course it had lighten up the streets.

After walking in that area, we head to the famous street, ‘Lady Street’. Which we rate it something like Chee Cheong Kai’ (Petaling Street) but of course, the things there are much nicer, it is longer than Petaling street 3 times and the crowd are like 5 times more.

For those who like to bargain, here would be your paradise but please be aware that if you are really interested in the items, only start bargain.

*Remarks
Please do not bargain and bargain for the syokness of yourself and you will ended up letting them scold and curse u or shout at you very loud.

After a short walk, this stall caught my attention, for those who have great fantasies, you can definitely get your sexy lingerie here. The best me and my friend think of is the elephant.

Bosini in Hong Kong is so famous where you can directly see that their clothes is much more nice compare to Giordano Malaysia as we rate this 2 brand similar and of course the pricing of the t-shirt is not worth to get in HK for Bosini.

I got impress that they occupied the whole 4 level.

For the first night only, we were like already spend over budget. With the food and women street there, and disappointed I cant find any nice Converse shoe at ‘Shoe Street’
