I am a big fan of China cuisine and it is kinda hard to find decent one in KL as we constantly end up in Restaurant TKS, Jalan Alor. Sichuan Cuisine at Kuchai Lama  is a new hidden discovery by us and it’s Chuan Xiang Ge (川香阁 ). As we found out, the food is authentic Sichuan Cuisine.

Sichuan Cuisine (2)

If you drive pass by, it do capture your attention as you look into the shop, it is filled with classic China interior.

There are a few items that we will not miss to order is 1. The hot and sour potato (醋溜土豆絲). The potatoes are finely slices where till the texture taste like cabbage. Slightly crunchy and dash of vinegar, dry chili and peppercorn is indeed perfect. .

Sichuan Cuisine (9)

Classic, Simple and hit the notes is Boiled dumplings or Pan Fried dumplings are a must when I eat Sichuan food; Just dip it with chilli oil to get the taste up. Skin here is slightly ticker than the usual and filling is a bit small.

Sichuan Cuisine (10)

Sichuan Duck Soup is good. Where the soup is filledwith salted veggie, raddish and filled with generous ingredients, salty to my liking and pack with flavour.

Sichuan Cuisine (11)

Classic dish of sichuan is Sliced Beef Tripe in Chili Oil with Peanuts. Simple, not too spicy, yet every single bite gives you the right amount of spicy that is needed.

Sichuan Cuisine (12)

Another dish that is a must order for us is Chongqing-style Dry-fried Chicken with Dried Chillies and Peppercorn. We just love to dig through this moutain sea of dry chilli. A treasure hunting dish as if you accidentally bite on the peppercorn, all I can say is good luck.

Sichuan Cuisine (14)

Another must have Sichuan Specialty for us is Shui Zhu Yu. Love the thickness of gravy and the density of pepercon in this bowl will just make you crazy to swipe it aside. Fish is always the prefered choice, however there are certain shop is good in pork.

Sichuan Cuisine (13)

With all the dishes, they serve inhouse special fragrant rice.

Sichuan Cuisine (15)

Chinese Mapo taufu is quite classic, however mapo tofu is a dish that we will rarely order, however after looking at the dish next table, we decided to add on order. Taste profile is indeed quite interesting. Spicy peppercorn, black bean, mild sweet, sour and spicy. Well balance of taste and just add rice in it, is perfect.

Sichuan Cuisine (16)

As the lady owner told us that Chongqing roast fish (kao yu) is well known in China and is also the shop signature. We also place an order along and truely enough, it is a good dish. bake and charcoal grilled. Taste is only mild spicy and do not let the chilli deceive you.

Will certainly come back here again as the dishes are good and price is pretty reasonable.

I am a big fan of spicy food. If you mention anything about Sze Chuan food, I would rarely decline your invitation to go for foot hunt. This was a recent thing that my best friend bought me to this place as we ran out of ideas on what to eat. Located facing the main road of Old Klang Road, at level one you will find this Xiang Fu Xiang Cheng Hunan Chinese Restaurant.

Hunan (1)

Its a shop that sells pretty authentic Hunan food which means most of their food is spicy base but not as spicy as Sze Chuan yet for this you can still taste the aromatic of their classic flavours.

Hunan (2)

Hunan (3)

Price here are pretty decent base on the portion that they are serving.

Hunan (4)

Their signature soup is not to be missed – Signature Pig Stomach Chicken Soup (Big) @ RM 108 serve nearly 10 pax. Pungent in flavour, slightly thick, making your stomach warm with hits sweet base from those cooking hours that they have.

Hunan (5)

Next is their Signature Braised Pork @ RM 38. Cook in their clear soy base, pork cook to perfection as its so soft that fats nearly melt in your mouth, as the soy base gravy I drink it like soup as it mix with salted veggie at the base.

Hunan (6)

Hunan (7)

Hot Plate Japanese Tofu @ RM 18. Pretty decent as serve with pippin hot plate, with a bed of bean sprouts at the bottom and their home made gravy is great.

Hunan (8)

Stir Fried Choy Sum @ RM 15 is just a plate of normal fried vegetable.

Hunan (9)

This is another dish must not miss as Tiger Stripes Pork Braised Meat @ RM 22. Cook differently as this gravy is thick, slightly sweet with salty end. Pork quality here seems pretty good.

Hunan (10)

Hunan (11)

Another of my favourite is Sour Pickled Vegetable Fish (fish you can chose fish of the day or better quality) Forgot what is the fish we oredered as the whole fish + this is RM 68. Mild spicy of dry chilli, salted sour soup base with salted vegetable, garlic cloves and some Sze Chuan Spice.

Currently this is one of my favourite China food that offer pretty good food and price is reasonable. Came here 3 times in a row.

I am a big fan of China food especially anything which is more towards Szechuan cooking style. Love their super spicy and oily base cooking. Yap, I might sound crazy as what my friend say but then I have dine one before which is really good in Melbourne, that continue my hunt for best Szechuan food in KL. Lucky Sichuan Restaurant is one of the nearest.

Lucky (1)

since its my friends birthday, then Sally highly recommended one of her regular spot which is Lucky Restaurant that sells szechuan food. Surely when Sze Chuan food is mention, I wont say no.

Lucky (2)

As for her booking and since she is a regular, we got a spot upstairs. I am amazed with the interior design that they are actually operating 2 levels of the shoplot and they have decorate the whole place with authentic Chinese ambiance. Wooden round door, with lantern lighting and bamboo painting on the wall.

Lucky (3)

Lucky (4)

Lucky (5)

In the menu, price are pretty much the same compare to the rest of the restaurant and everything looks good too.

Lucky (5.1)

Lucky (8)

For starter, we head for something really spicy, as the sea of red chili oil is only deceiving.

Lucky (9)

Not really spicy or maybe my spiciness level had increase. Great start and its pretty much a must order Item.

Lucky (10)

For someone who cant take spiciness, then Fried bittergourd is highly recommended! Fried to perfection that bitter gourd taste is not too bitter and its very aromatic with wok hei. Ended order another plate.

Lucky (11)

Sweet and Sour Pork intestine was gone in seconds. Chewy and light spicy end that makes it nice to go with rice.

Lucky (12)

Sour Spicy Soup turns out to be out of my expectation as I have expected too much in this dish when comes to this restaurant. This shop the soup have more sourish and a bit strong of vinegar taste.

Lucky (13)

this dish turns out to be good too, as the pork slices are soft, with sourish spicy gravy.

Lucky (14)

This is a must have, as fried chicken cubes are crispy and aromatic with their own seasoning of powder and fried along with lots of dry chilli. Not bad.

Lucky (15)

Pai Kuat did not really finish as its quite normal. .

Lucky (16)

This is one of my favourite dish when comes to Szechuan restaurant. Some of you might find it too oily or cook in a sea of hot pippin oil. For this restaurant, I don really like their fish slices and their soup base.

Lucky (17)

happy Birthday to our B’day Boi Marcus. . :d Another great cakes from Fatboybakes

Overall the food is good and I am keen to try their Malat Steamboat. .  smells good. For their fried dishes, I still prefer my favourite stall at Jalan Alor (click  here) currently they have fine tune to local taste, you have to mention authentic spiciness.

Any one of you fancy China food? I do, as I have dine before many good authentic China food before and definitely not in Malaysia. One of my best friend introduce me her all time favourite sze chuan food that located in Jalan Alor (click here). Then recently, I am being introduce to another type of China food which hail all the way from North China. Dong Bei is actually a province in North China and the owners have migrated to Malaysia, hence that is how the Dong Bei Restaurant is name after. The family came to Malaysia as early as 1992 and also known as one of the pioneer of authentic China food back in those early days. As now the restaurant is located behind Times Square, can you see that area is like a mini China eatery street.

Dong Bei (1)

In China, there are many province and taste definitely different for any other town that they have, it is the same as Malaysia too, as the East coast and WEst cost taste bud are very much different. So what is the difference for Dong Bei Food. The food have more sourish end and not that spicy. ( as the owner have localize it)

Dong Bei (2)

Its a simple restaurant and indoor seating is a unique dining experience as they have design in a way to give a little ambiance of what Dong Bei dining feels like.

Dong Bei (3)

Dong Bei (4)

this is the first time I came across utensils are properly wrap to kept the cleanliness of it.

Dong Bei (5)

Beancurd Dong Bei Style (风味干豆腐丝)RM18. Import all the way from China as its hard to find this kind of texture that originate the authenticity of it. Its a cold platter with chewy texture and hint of garlic and spicy chili oil taste. Pretty good to start off with.

Dong Bei (13)

Crisp Potato (香辣土豆片) @ RM18 for a start would be another good option.

Dong Bei (7)

This is another unique dish which is Dong bei Da La Pi sheet with Cucumber Salad (东北大拉皮)RM14. AT first glance I thought it was pig skin that finely cut then its not. Sprinkle with some garlic and eat it sheet by sheet, that taste a bit like jelly fish and pig skin texture cross over. 😀

Dong Bei (6)

Sauerkraut, stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉) @ RM18

Dong Bei (8)

Stewed Eggplant, Bean, Potato and Meat Dong Bei style (东北大乱炖) @ RM25. This is rather simple as I would rate this North China Curry, thick n creamier gravy and its a little sweet in taste at the end. Well fried and I quite like it. Goes well with my rice.

Dong Bei (9)

Hot & Spicy Seafood (麻辣香锅)RM28

Amount so many dishes, this would turn out one of the most spicies compare to the rest, the spiciness is not to the extend to make our mouth numb, as I find its well balance, even though cook with lots of dry chili, do not let the look to scare you off. I love how they cook along with lotus root make it crisp on the bite and prawns is fresh.

Dong Bei (10)

Boiled Fish with Sour Cabbage and Spicy Soup (酸菜鱼) RM32

Dong Bei (14)

This turns out to be one of the favourite among my table, as strong sourish taste with veggie and fresh fish. Those who like mild spicy, this would be a good option.

Dong Bei (11)

“Gardens”Prawn, Lotus Root, Potato and Vegetables (田园小炒) RM28

Dong Bei (12)

I rate this is super star for the night as Sweet & Sour Pork ( 锅包肉 ) was fried to perfection and its so cripsy outside and the pork inside its not overcook. Taste with a bit of sour vinegar taste with soy sauce that turn it a good combo@ RM18 – recommended

Dong Bei (15)

Lastly, we did not order the Dumplings (10 pcs) (饺子) but looking at so many tables order dish its like a must have thing and ended up we order 2 portion. One is steam @ RM10 and another one is fried.@ RM8

Great starter to go along and if mix with a bit of chili oil with ginger and vinegar, I just like mine to be in that way. 😉

I have always miss China food, no matter in which province, and one of the latest Cuisine which is available in Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant which is at One World Hotel is presenting us Shanghainese Cuisine that offers for a very limited time only.

Shanghainese cuisine is know for its rich and sweet flavors, and to get more authentic of the food, there are 4 special invites chef (Chef Terry Yu Ning, Chef Fanny Le Fei, Chef Lion Yu Sheng and Chef Navy Yang Tian Hai) from The Eton Hotel, Shanghai, flew in all the way just to prepare this special menu.

To get it more Chinese ambiance, they brought in Guzheng which is a traditional chinese instruments to play all the classical songs which I just love it.

Among those 3 I love the prawns the most, with its sauce which is a bit sweet and aromatic and the prawns is very fresh. .

zuen yuen (6)

Hot and Sour Soup ‘Shanghai’ Style, is quite different from my expectation and Shanghainese style on this is more on peppery spicy. .

zuen yuen (7)

Saute’ed Shredded Beef with Honey Beans 蜜豆炒牛肉丝

zuen yuen (8)

Braised whole Eel with Soya Sauce, which the meat is very soft and there are actually 4-5 eels are in this place and we have to eat it with care as this is the first time I eat eel with its whole form as it is, and filled with bones. . Love how they way they prepare it by slicing the meat and just eat it from the top . .

zuen yuen (9)

Braised Chicken with potato, with the sauce well coated on the chicken and the chicken been cook to perfection that its soft and juicy.

zuen yuen (10)

One of my favorite is Sauteed Scallop with ‘Bok Choy’ and Mushroom, as the whole vegetable dish is cook with wok hei and bok choy just soak the juice along . .

zuen yuen (11)

I have always hear this name Sweet Scented Osmanthus Rice Cakes 桂花糕, in most of the TVB drama series back during those Chinese Emperor time which I have not tried before, and I just love the texture of it, which is abit like muar chi style, soft and soggy yet have to chew a while to swallow. .

zuen yuen (12)

Steamed Vegetable Dumpling, also another one of my favorite as they just add in one type of vegetable that make it a bit salty with natural taste, and this dip with a bit of chili sauce, just perfect.
