Love pastry? Why not try out something new .. There is a shop I stumble upon 2 weeks ago at Publika that sells Hungarian bread. How I got attracted to it is that the friendly owner himself handing out the tester and it was pretty good. Then during my purchase got to know more about the little stall more. I ask him how do I describe this, he mention its a type of pastry taste like bread and a bit soft like cakes. Interesting I say.

kalac (1)

This whole bread or cakes originate from Transylvania also known as one of a traditional wedding Pastry. It name as Kurtos Kalacs in Hungary languages. Kurtos means Chimney, where as Kalacs is a type of pastry.

kalac (2)

You can see Malaysians at his shop as baker but the main lead is from the owner himself as the secret recipi comes from him, hence that is how the name secret 009 came about. All their dough are being made from scratch at the shop and bake fresh daily.

kalac (4)

They turn out in a form of rolls and easy to peel. Not only that, there are a few flavours for you to choose. Ranging from original – its a must try, rather plain and aromatic with its dough softness and special add on flavours. You can try if they have tester before you buy.

kalac (3)

Besides that, they have peanut. . .

kalac (5)

Cinamon. .

kalac (6)

Chocolate.

I bought 3 flavours home, with Cinamon, chocolate and original and find that its best to eat it fresh. As the owner told me that if you want to eat it the next day, use oven to reheat it about 3-4 minutes then its fresh to eat again. My advice is not to buy the chocolate flavour as its easy to melt.

Love the texture of this Hungarian Kalacs, that I would say its in between pretzel and bread. 😀

Worth to give it a try as they sell in 3 different sizes, for Small is RM 6, then have medium and one full roll.

I have always miss Indonesian food, especially on their street style. When I was there often few years back, there are a few things I will always eat, their sate, roti bakar and a few more. Guess what? Recently I found a place that sell one of my favorite savory originate from there known as Martabak Manis or Terang Bulan pancakes at Waroeng Oma.

Yap, you can say it is something similiar to our local market Ban Chang Kuih where you can find it in pasar malam or Pasar Pagi. The only big difference is the ingredient they use.

mbi (1)

Operate by 2 young lads, one of the owner of The MBI Martabak Manis actually originated from Jawa Indonesia and to make it better, they operate this little stall in this restaurant that also sells authentic Indonesian food which I will be blogging next.

mbi (2)

mbi (3)

Pricing for the Martabak Manis is very reasonable as they are huge in size and the ingredient they added in is very generous. Martabak Manis comes in 2 version one which is Original – means the thicker version and Tipker means the thinner or you if you love crispy then go for Tipker.

mbi (4)

All of this are prepare fresh upon order. It takes very fast for them to prepare one as, it takes a few minutes for them to get 1 piece ready for you.

mbi (5)

My all time favourite order would be .. . . .  when the base is form till the side is crispy, then first layer they spread with butter .. .

mbi (6)

 Follow by Cheeze ..

mbi (7)

Follow by Chocolate Rice and peanut. .

mbi (8)

Lastly, added on condense milk ..

mbi (9)

Then my they cut it and you can hear the cracking sound of the edge. . .

mbi (10)

This is my order, Original Martabak Manis Special @ RM 10. Rich in ingredient and very aromatic compare to our local stall. Just exactly like what they offer in streets of Indonesia. It might look sinful at first but after first bite, you will continue eating till its gone. Pretty addictive. Of course cant compare in price as its way too different. Cheeze that they use, taste nice and fragrant as event though they using Kraft and its imported all the way from Indonesia, as the owner find it our local one is more mild.

This portion I would say its pretty huge and best to share at least with 2 people.

mbi (15)

Next order is Original Cheeze with Milk @ RM 8.50

mbi (11)

After getting our thick version then we hope onto their Tipker version which is done like paper thin and the pieces that they cut all crack . This is best to eat it while its hot and not advisable to make it take away as it turn soggy very fast. Unless you go something of the ingredient that doesnt have wet base like peanut and chocolate rice, it might last a bit longer.

mbi (12)

Our next order is Tipker Pisang Special (Tipker Banana special) @ RM 11 filled with, chocolate rice, cheeze, condense milk, peanut and banana. The whole plate was gone in seconds and order another same portion again. It is so crispy and fragrant that make all of us hard to resist.

mbi (13)

Then last order we go for our favourite style which is filled with corn and peanut only. Never disappoint as the way they do the skin is already good.

If you are hunting for nice/ authentic Indonesian snacks and food, this shop surely can cure your cravings and it has now falls to one of my highly recommended place to hunt for.

I have walk pass this shop many times and I just do not have the heart to go in to try out, as the interior and the outlook of the outlet definitely look nice, yet I guess it just doesnt attract me, not till recently my friend plan to treat me eat Fruuze Frozen yogurt as its one of her favourite so well, free yogurt why not? 😀

fruuze (1)

fruuze (2)

fruuze (10)

I tried original filled with Longan, almond flakes and mango cubes. . [email protected] RM 13.50 medium size

fruuze (11)

My friend she had chocolate flavour, cornflakes and chocolate cubes. [email protected] RM 9, small

Overall, this would not be my preference as on the downside, find it quite expensive as the same as all other yogurt, as Penang doesnt have much choice in Yogurt still J.Co yogurt stand out more in terms of taste and pricing followed by Tutti Frutti.

In KL my all time favourite yogurt is MooCow which I had alot of times and didnt blog yet, I guess shall blog about them next round.

Heading to Day 3, we woke up early in the morning and arrange a driver to pick us up and start our journey to Pattaya. Its actually a trip that takes about 2 n half hours from Bangkok city. As on the way, Goft did told me that we MUST and MUST drop by at this french bakery – La Baguette French Bakery that serve superb food that she never fails to drop by whenever she heads there.

La Bouget (1)

Okay.. What is so special about this shop?  La Baguette is actually a french bakery that serve many types of bread, pastries, deserts and not to miss their signature crepes. Open its door to public in year 2003 and there is where they have started to increase their popularity among locals and foreigners. Its a special place with unique design and very nice ambiance that just makes you want to stick in this shop longer.

La Bouget (2)

When you walk into the shop, there will be a ice cream bell ringing on the door then you will be greated with a smile by their friendly staff. The whole shop is painted fairly white with the shine of the early sun into the shop makes it even brighter. Menu on the ceiling are fitted with chalkboard style  with menu nicely printed on it.

La Bouget (3)

The whole shop was nicely decorated and it certainly blend in perfectly to give you the feel its a french bakery shop.

La Bouget (5)

Most of us are very excited as for the first time, we come into a french bakery shop and we love the ambiance and interior design alot. Very simple and cozy, making us walk around and busy hunting food at the menu and some of us busy camwhore around the cafe.

La Bouget (4)

Its divided into 2 sections, one is bakery and pastries and another side is deserts, crepes and gelato.

La Bouget (6)

This is what Goft told us that must not miss. Their signature crepes.

La Bouget (7)

and just look at the pastries and desert fridge, its fill with lots of selection and I just stare them for quite a while, too bad it was in early morning that I do not have appetite for these, if it were after lunch, I think I am going to force my friend to at least try 1/3 of the fridge.

La Bouget (8)

It was pretty pack in the morning and people just don wait for their seats even though we came first, they tend to go after what is available table to them. Then only I told the waitress that we came first only she advice another family on the issue.

La Bouget (10)

I like the setting of the cafe, that filled with book classic wooden shelf, small wooden table and chairs with old clock on the wall, huge 3 seater sofa at a corner and some huge single seater sofa, makes it very French ambiance.

La Bouget (11)

La Bouget (12)

This is how the three of them sunk their ass on the cosy sofa till don want to move their butt.

A stall that I have been eating since I was in high school that have never let me down till today. From their old stall till their new stall located at Super Tanker at Taman Lip Sin, Penang is one of the pancake stall that you must not miss or a place to visit. I have not been visiting this stall for very long time till my last trip back to Penang. Aki Pancake is  not and ordinary pancake consider  Chinese style (ban chang kueh, or apom pancake, or even dai kau min) which you can eat it every where, it is famous for its thick pancake base with special ingredient added in.

Aki (1)

The stall had been taken care by this lovely couple which are very friendly yet polite to all their customer. This had created a bond and many of the regulars had return including my brother which is a big fan of this stall.

Aki (3)

Aki (2)

This is what I mean no ordinary pancake stall that serve with normal peanut and corn base. They do have raisins, with seafood, chocolate and many other more. If you are adventurous enough, do try out all their signature. It will just amaze you.

Aki (6)

The ingredient he use are all the top quality that he could find to match on his signature item.

Aki (7)

One of my all time favourite is ‘Turkey Ham, Cheeze with Tuna’ @ RM 5.50. You will be amaze what this piece of pancake can do to you. Heavy damage. You might feel it is weird that this pancake is done in this way, but trust me! After start having the first piece you will never stop eating the 2nd, 3rd pieces.

Aki (8)

Always will order the traditional ones, ‘Lots of Peanut and Corn’ @ RM1.50

Aki (9)

Aki (12)

This is what I mean the damage of having the first piece and then many more to eat after that. They are very generous on the amount of ingredient added in. Every bite is mouthfull of ingredient. Damm! I am hungry now just by looking at this picture.

Aki (10)

Aki (11)

One of the best is not only on the ingredient, is the thickness of the dough or base of it is just perfect to accomodate the ingredient.

There are many more to try as I have tried 70% of their range before I start blogging and it was just most of the time I went to this stall without taking camera. Till now, I felt that its a real hidden gem in one of the residence area that MUST share with you food lover out there. It is a recommended stall by me.
