Chinese New Year is just around the corner, which I could not believe myself too. Next weekend, all of us will be heading back for Reunion dinner. Nevertheless, alot of restaurants and hotels now do offer great food for reunion dinner as many families had opted to eat out instead of cooking at home because on ambiance and convenience.

doorsett (1)

As for this round, we head to Checkers Cafe located inside Dorsett Regency Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

doorsett (2)

Checkers cafe offers a great soothing ambiance which is perfect for family gathering as the whole place is comfortable, can be separate out with other diners also indulge with a very simple decoration to stir up the mood of CNY.

Once we were seated, we were greated by this huge Pineapple as a special welcome drink called Prosperity Splash Drink (Mixtured of Pineapple, Mandarin orange, Dragon Fruit juice and hint of honey) indeed its a thirst quencher drink that you will never had enough.

doorsett (5)

What we are having for the night is a 8 course dinner that prepared by a great Chinese chef.

doorsett (6)

Of course like any other celebrations during Chinese New Year and before dinner or everything starts, we will always starts with ‘Lou Sang’ which is only a tradition that available in a few countries around South East Asia. The thick sauce is specially made with chef’s own recipe to enhance on the taste of the ‘lou sang’. Their unique of Yee Sang is that ‘Salmon Yee Sang with crispy Salmon skin’.

doorsett (8)

Fresh Salmon ‘Yee Sang’ for the night . . . .

doorsett (9)

As preparation, you mix everything what is next to the plate on sauce and other ingredients.

Pictures credit to: www.everydayfoodilove.com

In the process of Yee Sang, by using a chopstick and stick inside the Yee Sang then you say out loud your  “auspicious wishes”  for the year, every toss say one wish whereby mostly is high salary, good business, good health and many more. The higher you toss,

doorsett (10)

This is usually the aftermath of lou sang and this consider not that bad, as for me and my friend, it did fly to someone’s hair before and the whole portion left half as another half is on the table. 😀

doorsett (11)

A very delicious, savory with a bit sweet, sour, crispy salmon skin that kick a perfect start before dinner. One of a good Yee Sang that I have come across so far. . .

doorsett (12)

Pan-fried Lamb Rack with Chef Special Sauce

This is the super star of the night as one piece would not be enough. I think I do not mind to have at least 5 pieces of this that it is well marinated till the sauce got into the meat, well quoted with the sauce that make it very juicy and not only that, the meat is so soft till it nearly melts, no lamb gammy taste which is a perfect dish for every one. Highly Recommended!

doorsett (13)

Braised Shark’s Fin with Assorted Seafood

During Chinese new Year, Shark Fin will mostly fill onto the table as they are quite generous with the ingredient. I can eat chunks of crab meat, fish maw and assorted seafood every spoonful of it.

doorsett (14)

Followed by Steamed Chicken with Herbs.

Juicy and soft meat with the herb sauce soak onto the meat and make every bite delicious.

doorsett (15)

Deep Fried Cod Fish with Superior Soya Sauce

This is also another favourite dish for the night, as the fish being deep fried on the outer layer till its crispy then shower along with superior soy sauce. Always love the texture of cod fish which is soft and moist.  – Recommended

doorsett (16)

Deep Fried Prawns with Seafood Sauce

Fresh prawn that indicates by the solid meat texture and the seafood sauce pairs it very well.

doorsett (17)

Braised Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Dried Oyster and Black Mushroom with seasonal vegetable

doorsett (18)

Fried Rice with ginger and salted egg

Fried hot from the wok with ‘wok hei’ a bit salty and I still add in some soy sauce to further bring up the taste. Its simple and good to further fill my stomach.

doorsett (19)

Steamed Nian Gao which is prepared by the chef himself as its a bit softer compare to those I have eaten so far and I love Nian Gao alot as get to eat once a year. I love it to well coated with lots of coconut.

doorsett (20)

Golden Sesame Ball with Red Bean paste

doorsett (21)

For the first time I am trying Sweetened Red Bean Paste, as I mean the red bean had been blend into a very thick to make this desert out. Usually I eat this in watery base filled with Red Bean chunks.

doorsett (22)

This is the Sous Chef Lai behind the wok that had created this great range or Perfect Dinner menu that have all what a Reunion dinner needs. In this menu many chinese believe in every dinner must have Prawns, Fish, Chicken, dried oyster and nian gao. All have their own meaning in a Chinese New Year Dinner.

I certainly would recommend for their CNY Chinese Menu if you wanted to go for reunion dinner at this hotel. Great food ~

doorsett (23)

We were also given cup cakes with Dragon Icon and gold. The cake is moist and nice!

If you do not like their Chinese NEw Year menu you can opt for their buffet that have a good range too.

Quite some time ago, me and my friend were lost and do not know what to eat while at Mid Valley, most of the time I can think of is only Kim Gary, Delicious or a few of my favourite then I saw this new shop opened and decided to give it a try.

The whole ambiance had attracted me to in as softly lit with orange dim lights around the area with Japanese like paper light box is a very comfy . . . .

In the menu, it is more like a Japanese Fushion food and all the pictures in the menu attracted me alot and I wanted to test most of it.. Too bad there were only 2 of us ..

Normally green tea to start off with and in their menu they do have quite unique range of drinks to go after. . . Mine is not normal green tea it is ‘Green Tea Sugar Cane’ and its my favourite drink in the shop. Not too sweet in sugar cane taste and aroma of green tea is there. . .loving it. . RM 3.80

I forgot what name is this dish i think its hotplate chicken katsudon . .

IT is abit soupy on the base with hot plate boiling then pour on an egg then stir it in.. .  filled with a bit salty taste goes on very well . . .

Then followed by ‘Teppanyaki Pork Mayo Fried Rice’ @ RM 14.80, pork pan grill till its just nice not too soft and chewy, n the sauce is well coated to the meat . ..  goes along with rice is perfect combination . .

Then my order came ‘Spicy Pork Mayo Ramen’ and just by the surface with the smell of it, I just cant wait to use my chopstick  poke poke thru the noodle and slurp it up into my mouth. Just as I expected with the kind of soup base that I have long search for, not too salty, just peftect in taste, abit clear in soup and spiciness is at the end with springy Ramen which is not over cook. Just Perfect to my likings as I miss it when I was at Melbourne. The portion might look small but the portion is just nice to fit myself and gives me satisfaction. RM 14.80

After the first try, I went couple of times with my friend and the quality is there and most of the time I forgot to bring my camera along that turns out this picture was taken few months back and decided to blog bout it now . . If you do not know what to eat in Mid Valley, this is one of the recommended shop from me as it is now one of my favourite Japanese Fushion shop. .

Every year after Christmas and New Year most of us the rest will turn on our Chinese New Year mood already with all the shopping mall converting to CNY deco but this year, Chinese New Year mood came to me very early as heading to my very first stop, to try out CNY menu at Four Season Restaurant(Non-Halal).

4Season

4Season (2)

Nice Chinese contemporary designs to add on the ambiance of the restaurant.

4Season (3)

The food in the menu looks good and the price is quite reasonable.

4Season (5)

This is how Ken on site, showing his new ka chan…’Boi Tahan ah’~~~ lol~

4Season (6)

I like the ‘Chili Oil’ very much as in when added to the meal, it brings up the extra fragrance on it. Not very spicy yet a bit salty.4Season (7)

4Season (8)

‘Special Four Seasons Hong Kong Style Poon Choi’

4Season (9)

4Season (10)

When the pot cover opens up, we were so excited that pun choi is filled with prawns, scallops, peas, broccoli, sea cucumber and some other ingredients. Our chopstick is there, and have to say waiitttttt..take picture first, as everyone is staring at it waiting to eat it with the aroma flying through our nose. Surely this is 100 times better than the pun choi I ate at Yin Ker Lou and more worth it.

4Season (11)

‘Four Seasons Roasted Duck’ filled our mouth with juicy and tender duck meat yet the saltiness level is there and add on with some chili oil is just perfect as we hope we could have another plate.

4Season (13)

Followed by ‘Crispy Pork’

4Season (14)
and ‘Char Siew’

4Season (15)
‘Waxed Meat Rice in Hot Pot’ cooking at the bottom of the rice, with making the base a bit burn and crispy then stir it around to make it evenly that I love it filled with Chinese sausage.

4Season (16)

4Season (17)I have always drink soya bean and love sea coconut but I have never thought that this 2 when mix together it would be so nice. ‘Double Boiled Sea Coconut with Soya Bean’

It was a great nice trying out nice dishes and a great start for CNY mood and this is not the only set we try, as for family reunion dinner or ‘Sau Gong Jau’ can always be in here too with the set menu as below.. Richard, I have to say thank you for arranging everything.

I could not help but to blog this wonderfull food that I have eaten yesterday as the double K’s brought the whole making gang to this place which they had been talking for quite sometime till ‘yesterday’ only bring us makan.

As I have always mark Kuchai Lama business park as one of my food hunting ground yet neither did I know that, there is another hidden restaurant next area to it. We reach around 12pm and it was already 95% occupied. Left 3 big tables and we occupied one and Karen told us that, usually the place would be very very pack after 12.30pm.

What we order was everything from the wall. The 5 dishes which is their signature dish.

Oder their ‘Longan Leong Sui’ lack of flavor and it would taste very nice if the longan aroma added strong her and also add in some sweetness.
If you are very sleepy in the morning or even lunch and loves something sour.. ‘Lime Juice with Sour Plum’ is something that will make your eyes wide open like a star blinking. Its very sour kam kat and sour plum taste had blended well with it. A perfect combination, recommended.

Another drink not to be miss, their ‘Kopi Peng’ as we ended up ordering 4 extra cups. We love it as it was strong in taste, yet the structure of it its like sticking on the glass, with a bit of burn coffee powder taste not too bitter but suit to our taste. Recommended too.

Our very first dish, ‘Mix Fried Pig Intestine’, the moment the waiter put down the dish, the rest were already taking their chopstick and ready to attack this dish and I have to stop them cuz I have not take a picture. I have to take it fast as I felt the pressure is there, if I do not take it fast the chopstick will ended poking up in my nose.

The moment I said I finish taking pictures, left half of the plate and it was gone within minutes. We love the texture of it, it was something chewy as all of us love it, the sauce is salty enough to eat along and the best part is the intestine is a bit smelly of its taste yet eat along with the fried pig oil and dried shrimps is just something you would not want to miss. We reorder again. Also gone within minutes. Highly recommended.

‘Guinness Stout Chicken Wingz’ I have always heard that cook a dish with Guinness and have not tried it till yesterday. Ohhhh, I can just tell you that I am loving it. By just smelling the dish I already cannot wait to eat it. For the very first bite of the mini drumstick I fell in love with the flavor. Something thick and rich in flavor and the soft chicken meat had just making us wanted to eat more. Andy was like, emm..this is good, emmm. . . this is just so good. Then Andy complain that, nah, see la…told you guys to order big 1.
I have tried quite anumber of places with its very own ‘X.O Claypot Fish Head Noodle’ but this have its taste of its own. There is a bit sour, yet a bit milk creamy, with a bit strong taste of ginger yet the soup is very clear is something that I do not really know how to describe but the taste is definitely unique compare to the one I have tasted before. Its good.
‘Claypot Lou Shi Fun’ caught my attention the most of how they serve it. With a very square wooden box look alike and the claypot was put in the middle of the box. Strong aroma when it was serve and of course it needed to be stir.
The after effect was, it taste not bad with you manage to eat abit of the crunchy burn lou shi and it’s a bit dry as I like it not too dry, with mince meat and the flavor of the burning taste is there. Not a bad dish after all. What is lacking was with an egg.
‘Braised Pork Belly with Man Tou’ I love the taste of the gravy but the meat provided consist of 10% meat and 90% fats. Particularly is like eating fats that makes me geli but then I remember that eating along with the man tou gives it the oomph of it, and here is my very own version of wrapping.

Add on the sauce and wrap and eat along, yet still I cannot eating with the fats oozing out from the bun just makes me geli. If the fats and the meats we given equally, it would be nice to much with the soft warm man tou.

We really did enjoy the meal here and looking forward to revisit. A place I am recommending. The sad thing is they do not open on weekend as they are very busy for catering. Well, that just leaves us an option of weekdays then. Total bills come to RM118 for 7 person which I think the price is okay with the quality of the food but some of them do not like the lou shi fun. It is advisable to go to this place early to avoid dissapointment.

Recently my friend had fall in love with Kim Garry, whenever they go to Mid Vally, they would go there and dine. It is like their main place to dine, I dine with them till have phobia of Kim Garry. Once listen to the name I feel like vomiting.
To my surprise they, decided to change place to this Chopstik Noodle House. I asked them why here cuz the food here not really good as the one I used to go was in Bukit Bintang above Planet Hollywood back in those days, as for now I think already ‘gulung tikar‘. They mention that here more cosy cuz there were too pack with ppl on that day.
So here I am with the rest in this restaurant that I always walked pass with never had the intention to go in cuz as I walk pass no matter how many times, the restaurant also have so little ppl in there only even on weekend.
This is what most of my friend ordered Cincau with White Coffee‘. Look impressive but the taste not enough. Never had a strong aroma of coffee taste and the cincau is just cincau. Taste smooth but not really sweet. Missing something in there. RM4.90
Next which is ‘Honey BBQ Pork Rice’. The taste of the sauce is so geli which is too sweet like taking syrup and most of the roast pork edge were burn and look very black. The pork is just not as good as what I have tried so far. The taste of honey so far tasteless. RM10.90
This is one of the far worst ‘Prawn Wantan Noodle’ I have ever taste. The soup is tasteless to the point that you just boil a clear water and pour it in, add some salt and paper on top. The wantan was not really impressive though, with the filling inside just would not fit into my mouth. RM 11.90

Lastly, another of my friend order ‘Dewy Honey’. Look impressive but the taste, okay la. Is not good as expected. They blend the honey dew and pour from the top, and the bottom of the base is too sweet like eating sugar syrup. The Nata de coco is countable so do the Honey dew biji. One word ‘Hopeless’. RM5.50 for this.
All the price above must add in additional 5% g.tax and 10%s.charge. The service is prompt because we were the only table outside and indoor there is another table.
Now only I realise that why this restaurant have not many customer is because of the food quality. Sure would not go back and dine again for the price they are paying. I would rather go back to their ‘lou tei fong‘ Kim Garry.

Was searching for nice Japanese food and Jeslin recommended this Kampachi Restaurant, have heard good food review that they provided here. Been always saying wanted to dine here, and finally get the chance to go with their classy outlook and cozy interior.

This restaurant is pretty huge with its luxury interior settings and spacious. Feel cosy to sit in a place like that to enjoy your meal.

Here are all the shasimi and sushi being prepared by all the busy chef here. All of the raw ingredients looks fresh.

This is what I have ordered. In the menu, the picture looks different from the rest so give it a try. They serve in a set and comes with miso, chawamushi, chicken and the main is Some salmon mix with egg roe. It is a cold dish. Did not know that. I use my chopstick and stir everything in there. Taste a bit weird at first cuz it is cold but then after a while, taste nice. The chicken is nicely deep fried. Chrispyyy on the outside, juicy on the inside. This is ‘Shake Oyako/Wakadori RM35
This is what Ian ordered Teppanyaki Beef Set’. When the set is serve, we were pretty shock of the serving portion. With his size, definitely he ordered the right food. I can’t take beef,so cannot review on it but what he said is the beef is just tender, soft and nice. Not too cook as he order it to be half done. It cost RM48
Jeslin order this as she said wanted to go diet, ‘Sushi Bento. The shashimi is very fresh as this is what I say. It cost RM 48
Jean ordered Unadon & Salmon’. I have no comment on this dish cuz she sat the other end of me, so my hand can’t stretch so what she said was so so only except the Unagi is nice. The dish is RM40

Gyu Katsu Don’ is what Jay Jay have for the night. It is something like Oyako don. This dish I would recommend as it is nicely cook on the chicken meat, the egg is not too cook, nice to blend/mix with the rice. Goes along very well. It is RM40 which I would say a bit expensive for this.

Ian is like a vacuum cleaner, sucking all the sauce and finish the whole dish. Dinosaur. Trying to cover his face not to be identified.

Jeslin too finish everything but I did help her on the last 2 piece of sushi. Trying to avoid too like Ian.
Good meal must always finish with a desert. Jeslin ordered this Macha Zenzai cost RM16. Nothing special about it as a green tea ice cream with red bean sauce and Japanese mua chi. Can get it in MOF on the food court level which is something similar.
This is what Ian get for his desert Goma IC Special’ RM 16. I think it is special because of the biscuits standing tall with red bean, mango, Japanese mua chi and Sesame Ice Cream(which I don like). Special in the deco but taste normal.
After sit, chat and eat by deciding to call for the bill, it comes up the total off RM289. What I can say is the price of the fine dining restaurant. Cant blame for it.
