With over 500 entries across the globe, Hennessy has narrowed down their search for the world’s best sustainable cocktail. The world’s bestselling cognac has just announced the Global Top 40 winners in the #HennessyMyWay 2022 challenge. The cocktail challenge saw three Malaysians as among the Global Top 40 winning bartenders.

The global challenge is Hennessy’s third installment of the competition which encourages bartenders to be inspired by Hennessy to push their creativity to the limit. This year calls on bartenders across the world to create their version of a sustainable cocktail using Hennessy.

“Every year the standard of the talent pool in Malaysia seems to be raised even higher. We are incredibly lucky to have such exceptional bartenders that can bring out the versatility of Hennessy by creating unique pairings to suit every taste,” says Nausicaa Charrier, Marketing Director of Moët Hennessy Diageo  Malaysia & Singapore.

Beacons of the Malaysian bartending scene, Thanesh Joel (of Backdoor Bodega), Rolend Ten (also of Backdoor Bodega) and Chloe Tan (of Cabinet 8 by JWC) were commended for their strong understanding of ritual and role it plays in a great cocktail experience while demonstrating great ability to integrate sustainable practices in their expressive cocktails.

In demonstrating such exceptional skill the trio have earned a place in the Global Top 40, joining other bartenders from countries including Canada, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. Other ASEAN winners included one each from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, putting Malaysia firmly ahead in this region.

“It’s exciting to see how our Malaysian bartenders compete on the global stage. To have not just one but three winners, the highest number of winners from a single country in South East Asia, is a testament to why we must continue to nurture the local talent to their full potential,” adds Charrier.

The Global Top 40 winners will each receive a cash prize of 1000 EURO and 1 bottle of Hennessy X.O. The cash prize is in addition to the 200 EURO received for winning the Malaysia Top 10 challenge round. The Global Top 40 winners will also move into the final challenge round to compete for a spot in the elusive Global Top 5. On this level, they will stand a chance to win another 2000 EURO each, and their choice of either a Hennessy Experience in Cognac or a VIP NBA Experience.

The winners are among Malaysia’s Top 10 whose entries were submitted for the global challenge with three cocktail creations out of the 10 being further selected as the Global Top 40. The judging was done by The Maison Hennessy in Cognac, France, by a panel including Hennessy Global Ambassador Jordan Bushell.

Cocktail lovers can also taste the Malaysia Top 10 winning cocktails at the respective bars as part of the Hennessy Cocktail Trail:

If you remember that Norm Cafe did make a huge buzz in Penang last year for their 2in1 concept. Cafe in the morning, bar at night. Then I was introduce by my friend to visit Norm that is famous for their waffle and located in different location at Lebuh Carnarvon. It did not ring a bell till I reach the location and find it weird, that it has similarities to the one I visited a year ago.

norm (1)

Until I walk in, the ambiance and lighting do resemblance the NORM at The Saw Emporium. Then only found out from the barista that they have relocate to this new location. Still as small as it is, with only a few table on the premises and if you come here with a big group of friends which are 4 and above, you will have a problem for seating arrangement.

norm (2)

norm (3)

Still the same, as they have their cocktail and tea corner.

this is what the cafe is famous for. Their cocktail and also their signature waffle. If were to compare to last year, the waffle had much improve. Currently it is slightly puffier, crispy and bake to perfection. Indeed a pretty good waffle and best of all, mine is rum and raisin @ RM 22. Top with nice ice cream and rum raisins on the side is a good pairing. Best of all, I pair with their cocktail.

A small little cafe tug in this dead end street. Parking is super expensive for Penang as it is RM 7 (maybe due to Chinese New Year)

A great place for waffle and cocktail. Believe coming in the afternoon will get to shoot nice pictures. Great ambiance to chill and hangout. Love my spot which is just right beside to the main wooden door. Also, could this place be offering the Best waffle in Penang?

When my best friend drop by in KL before heading back to Penang for preparation on his wedding, manage to have dinner with the rest of the group and some of them havent seen them quite a while. Then text him, where for dinner and he insisted I must dine at his hotel area whereby Prego Italian restaurant is one of his favourite restaurant. I have no doubt in his taste because when I was in Sydney, he brought me to all his favourite place and all are top notch.

prego (1)

Prego is one of the restaurant located at Ground Floor of Westin as we enter the restaurant I am surprise to see its pretty full for such restaurant on weekdays. Knowing the capacity, surely this place wont turn out in disappointed. Then only found out that they are one of a award winning restaurant. One of it is  “Best Italian Restaurant” in KL by Time Out KL for a few years

prego (2)

Classy interior with dim lights all the way, greetings from friendly staff  as you reach the entrance . ..

prego (3)

prego (4)

prego (5)

For smokers, you can opt to be seated outside and they have a coffee and cocktail bar for you ready outside to place your order.

prego (6)

I find the pricing in this fine dine area, is pretty decent. Selection of food is pretty much the same with any other types of Italian dining. (Full Menu, click here)

prego (7)

Then we were greeted by their homemade complimentary bread with tomato dip. It was gone in seconds, that the bread is warm and the dip just pair very well with the bread. We requested for another round of bread. 😀

prego (8)

One of the recommendations from my friend that he will never miss whenever he dine at this restaurant is Mushroom Risotto @ RM 52. Pack with flavours and its quite thick and creamy. It was cook to perfection, with the cheese melted and texture light sticky as it is suppose to be. We ended up order another portion. – Highly recommended!

prego (9)

Oxtail Rivioli as my another mischievous friend called it high class wantan. Light gravy sauce shower upon the rivioli and the @ RM 52

prego (11)

Braised Lamb Shank are decent as braised till the meat is soft and risotto at the bottom is too soft to my liking. @ RM 73

prego (12)

Another super star is Lasagne. Love the soft texture of layer in between that is not too thick, beef and tomato that is cook along is awesome! Highly recommended! @ RM 56

prego (13)

Saleme Pizza @ RM 49

prego (15)

This was our first round, and second round we went to Luna Bar for a drink, then they have third round that I did not follow  . ..

I would surely return for more, and its a perfect place to dine during any special occasion here.
