It has been long long time since I last came to this coffee shop and I think the last round I came here was bout 12 years ago, during college time. Used to come here to have our breakfast weekly before class and since then did not really come over. Its one of a famous kopitiam, New Cathay Kopitiam known for breakfast that you will be spoil for choices, as the food here are pretty good.

new cathay (1)

Till last holiday, went for hiking and came down, then my friend keep asking me where to eat and I mention why not go back to our old kopitiam and he mention good idea where he also did not go there for quite a while.

new cathay (2)

As usual, I will order my few favourites in a shop and I am suprise to see that this Curry Mee stall is listed as one of a top 10 food to eat in a online guide and my friend told me that their business been so good that make them actually a star in this kopitiam. They also got feature in Penang Food Trail and Rasa Rasa Penang.

new cathay (4)

All the classic food are available as you name it, most of the food you can get it here, from Char Koay Kak, HOkkien Mee, Char Koey Teow, Wantan Mee, and many more. . .

new cathay (5)

Not only that, this kopitiam had gain its popularity to many tourist, as the table I am sharing, have Indonesians, Ipoh People and Thai people.

new cathay (6)

Oh, one of my favourite Indian Apam as Penang version is slightly different to those in KL. Right in the middle we have an egg that makes it flavourful. I forgot to take pic of it. 😀

new cathay (7)

HOkkien Mee here are pretty good as the soup base are pretty sweet with prawn head taste and I always love mine to have lots of Chili to make it extra kick.

new cathay (8)

Although Curry Mee are listed in food guide and online guide, I find that the soup flavour is pretty mild with coconut taste and the curry paste they have is slightly different. The squid sauce that make it slightly sweet that doesnt comes to my liking. I prefer other places but well,

new cathay (9)

This is not Chinese Pan cake, but more like a modified version and used to be famous back in those days and now, I guess many prefer hawker food and I still find this pretty good,as its filled with Banana, raisins, egg and pair with my kopi kau just nice.. @ RM 5

If you are in Penang, you can put this kopitiam as one of your hunting ground for breakfast. . Wan TAn Mee here is quite another signature too. .

It had been quite a long time since I last step into Pasar Malam (night market) which it had been quite a often outing with my friends during college time. Since then, had rarely been to it not until last week that got a called from my friend asking wanted to go night market which is located at OUG. This is my first time visiting night market in this area and I am quite excited to see what food range they have to offer and operating here on every Thursday starts at 6pm.

Night market in Malaysia do not have a fixed location that operate like Taiwan, if you are looking forward to go night market in Malaysia, it is advice for you to check it out which day and location. The location can spread out over Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Oug

Usually my friends and me will take out some money, one person will hold it as the banker who is in charge of paying all the food and will share by all of us. On that day the place is not that packed as I expected and not that big compare to other night market.

Oug (2)

Besides food, of course they are stalls like selling clothes, some basic utilities, and others.

Oug (3)

When I saw this stall selling this Taiwan Mask a box for RM8 I nearly vomit blood with the pricing here, as I bought 3 box for RM50 at Taiwan and here is RM8 per box that makes me wonder is it fake?

Oug (4)

My hunting begins with this first stall ‘Papa Lai Fried Chicken’ that many people are waiting for it and thought it would be nice.

Oug (5)

Pricing as above. . . . .

Oug (6)

It sure do look like normal fried chicken and the taste is normal, nothing much to brag about, one of the reason being so long queuing is that they need to fried the chicken and a person buying one piece of it, whole group lining up.

Oug (7)

‘Otak-Otak Muar’ is next with promotion of buy 10 free 1 at RM 7.

Oug (8)

Oug (10)

I ate it while its hot and I have just eaten better ones.

Oug (9)

Ice cream that sell in front of the Otak-Otak.

Oug (25)

Among so many food stall that I have came across, this stall is the busiest among all with 3 old lady constantly doing take away for big crowds and this guy is busy frying mini prawn crackers.

Oug (11)

This is one of his signature of the stall, mini prawn cracker.

Oug (12)

Oug (13)

‘Prawn Crackers’

Oug (26)

all the fried dish.

Oug (27)

pricing as above.

Oug (15)

This stall with the word ‘Thai Roast Pork’ surely caught our attention.

Oug (16)

and its ‘Satay Style’ turns out to be not bad if you add on the chili by the side.

Oug (17)

It is purely pork and available with pig spare part.

Oug (18)

Next is this stall caught my attention the most. I pan cake had been one of my favourite but then I have never come across with CEREAL version.

Oug (19)

It is operate by a young lad and with his creativeness and health conscious, he created this version.

Oug (20)

First add on a pack of cereal. . .

Oug (21)

Then add on with the pre mix ingredient and let it harden a bit to add on the peanut and sugar.

Oug (22)

After it is cook nicely, with the skin is thick on the outside and had to cool down before cutting it.

Oug (23)

If you are sick or looking for some healthy option, then you can give this a try as the taste is quite bland but surely its healthy. RM1.30

Oug (28)

‘Fried Kuih Kak’

Oug (29)

Love to  have mine with more bean sprout and add on spicy but on that day according to my friend, the uncle fried it till quite  wet that turns out not so good which usually is quite dry, with wok hei.

Oug (30)

When I was a kid, I love to eat those uncle that ride motorcycle that sells home made ice cream and it has been quite a while I am looking for this ice-cream. Poo’s Ice Cream which is operate by one old uncle that do those home made ice-cream that I had missed.

Oug (31)

The flavour of that day was Cendul and it is good, smooth, not that sweet and thick in flavour. RM1

Oug (32)

When I first walk through this ‘Nasi Lemak’ the amount of ingredient that left there was still a lot and after 40 minutes walk back, it is nearly sold out. Then we decided to try a pack. The rice is fragrant with coconut milk and pandan flavor and the best part is add in their own dry sambal udang to add the extra kick in it.

I feel that this night market is quite small and not many food or stalls available, so far I still prefer the one at Cheras-Leisure Mall or SS2 but after this food outing, I have decided to hunt for other night market too, especially on Wednesday at Cheras which is one of the biggest.

In Penang, when comes to breakfast, there are a lot of places to choose from. One of the place that I have last visited was this very classic kopitiam, did came here when I was in college time but then did not manage to drag my ass up after that, since that this round I had become a early person, so I manage to drag my friend for breakfast at this place again.

Kheng Pin

Kheng Pin (2)

For the very first thing in this coffee shop or consider signature stall for the coffee shop is the loh bak. It is now had become a family business with the dad as the deep fry person and the mom and daughter helping out.

Kheng Pin (4)

The ‘Loh Bak’ and ‘Heh Chi(prawn cake)’ is kinda irresistible. I always will order at least 3 each. Well deep fried yet the loh bak is very fragrance with its 5 spices yet the meat is solid yet the heh chi is fried till very crispy and inside of it hidden two prawns.

Kheng Pin (5)

Its even harder to resist when the loh bak or heh chi is dip in this very own starchy ‘Loh’ or the ‘Chili Sauce’. RM 3.90 for this

Kheng Pin (6)

Kheng Pin (7)

The ‘Hokkien Mee (Prawn Mee)’ with its very burning hot soup base is something which I prefer yet the soup is aromatic with the prawn shell that had been cook for hours and added on more chili had make me enjoy every drop of it and I was sweating all over when I finish it. RM2.50

Kheng Pin (8)

Kheng Pin (9)

‘Wan Tan Mee’ in this shop is reasonably price at RM3 with the way the auntie adds on the ingredient. The noodle had been bath in hot and cold water for couple of times makes it the noodle quite springy.

For early morning breakfast, I must say, its quite satisfying with the loh bak stall highly recommended.

My first try on Vietnamese food was during my college time where there is one quite famous Vietnamese restaurant at Taipan, USJ which is called Vietnam Kitchen. Went to this restaurant quite frequent and I love their soursop drink a lot! Wondering is the restaurant still there and is the quality still the same? Till my very last exposure which I had a satisfying meal was at Pho Hoa months back.

Then recently got a chance to try out their food again, but this round I try out their food at the very wrong time which during 9th God festival which I am on vegetarian. Then my friends they request the kitchen to do vegetarian for me. I plan to go sit and migle around mana tau kena makan.

Drinks to start of with ‘Vietnamese Dripping Coffee’ and if you are looking forward to be caffeinated then this is a good drink to go after. RM5.95

Something thick and creamy yet not that sweet ‘Blended Fresh Avocado Juice’ not my type of drink but still alright. RM7.95

I cannot remember what is the last drink called but I love it, gassy, yet a bit diluted feel but with asam that pulls in the taste of it.

All of us waiting patiently for our food to come and been explain by a friendly host. He is really a great guy.

As I remember when I was studying in Melb I used to hate this a lot because of the vegetable ingredient that they use and my housemate used to ta pau a lot back because he work in a restaurant till my Vietnamese friend teach me how to enjoy it and now it had become one of my favourite.

‘Summer Roll Shrimp, Chicken, Salad & Rice Vermicelli’ RM3.95 per roll as it was wrap solid as it is and you must dip it with the dipping sauce(taste something like, ‘Shrimp paste/penang rojak paste’) to make it very flavourful. Mine this round was pure vegetarian roll. Still as good as it is.

We had a mini version of the appetizer is for food tasting purpose making sure we enjoy most of it.

Lemon Grass Chicken @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks
Fried Roll @RM3.25 per roll
Sugar Cane Prawn @RM7.95 per plate of 4 sticks

As this round me on vegetarian,so got no chance to try out but only to see and swallow my saliva but based on my previous food outing, the sugar cane prawn was grill and very aromatic.

When it comes to Vietnam food, beef is always their signature. It would be best to eat with beef as ‘Beef Pho with combination of Steak, Brisket, Flank, Tendon and Tripe’ @RM16.95 which is my all time favourite that all the lembu spare parts are in there. The soup base is clear and sweet as it taste like the parts had been cook along in it for hours.

As today I am hunting for healthy food concept, the next serving would be ‘Vermicelli with Veggie and Grilled Chicken’(mine without the chicken) RM12.95. To best eat it is to pour the gravy in, and mix it around like rojak then you eat. Something light and healty which fill in your taste bud with a bit of sour, sweet and clear feeling for you. The chicken meat is to pull up the taste of the veggie which goes along very well with it as what I have been told.

My vegetarian version.

I love my fried taufu very much as it is, fried to perfection to my likings that the outer layer is a bit solid crust crispy and the inside is soft and hot yet the show the taufu with the Vietnamese sauce is just heavenly.

Besides that, they do have ‘Seafood Noodle Soup’ as I did not try out this one, so cant really comment much on this.

Lastly, we got serve with ‘Net Spring Roll with Ice Cream’, a simple ice cream with fried yam that taste very yammmy which makes a perfect couple. RM5.95.

When comes to Vietnam Food, certainly this is in my list to recommend.

Thanks to Richard for organizing and thanks to Sidney for inviting. My last review on the shop, click here

At last or Finalllllyyyyy, I am going to Pulau Redang. Been talking bout this trip since college time and always the timing is no ngam.
When the time was right, the group that I planned with they FFK me…Did not inform me and went themselves few years back. I was lucky, got to go with my friends that get to know not long ago~
I didn’t sleep alot as have to wake up at 3am and catch the shuttle bus at 3.45 at KL central. I thought we were one of the group that craze enough to go so early and thought that the bus would be empty or half only. To my surprise that it was full…
The best thing of all was I reached air port at 5 am, and it was already sooooooooooooo many ppl checking in to so many countries. I feel that, it is so much more ppl compare to KLIA around this time. Thought that the country is having economic slowdown but I Guess it’s not.
The convenient thing about Airasia is that, if you do not have any luggage to check in, can directly check in at this Kiosk and will directly print out your ticket and proceed to the respective counters to get certified with a stamp on the ticket. That’s all. Hassle free. The flight departing at 7.10am
50 minutes later

After a short flight in it I finally feels like my leg gonna cramp as the seated place is so narrow. We finally reached Kuala Terengganu. The airport is tradition in its way.~

I thought it was a some fancy jetty, mana tau, the jetty is like Bukit Tambun seafood area. Swampy~

Not a fancy big boat, but a small boat which can take 14 ppl max, more than that, chances of the boat tengelam is quite high~ but with this speed boat takes about 30 minutes to reached back here.
