What is the first instant thing when people say Hartamas? Instead of luxury housing area, it comes to me food. Smack right in the heart of Hartamas you can see rows of shophouses that is filled with alot eateries and some offices. Well, there is actually one hidden place that is flock with many young people during night.

geo (1)

Its Geo’s Cafe, that had been operating in this area for a few years now, starting off their business by sharing a hawker stall, evolve to burger truck and now they have settle down in a proper shop now. Not only that, their business is so good that now they are planing to take over another shop in the corner to cater for family crowd.

geo (2)

Its not a huge shop but the sitting area are all being place at the walkway pavement.

geo (3)

they also practice open concept kitchen.

geo (4)

geo (5)

Geo’s Cafe food offering are more towards western fusion, with street gourmet burgers, Italian range and some local cuisine.

geo (6)

geo (7)

geo (8)

geo (9)

Geo’s Extreme Lamb Burger @ RM 13 – single homemade lamb patty with cheddar cheese, homemade GorGEOS sauce, fresh lettuce, slices of onions, with sesame bun.

geo (10)

Drench in sauces and smells good when it was serve as it does taste as good as it smells. Patty is soft along with melted cheese and their own special sauce that add the kicks of it. The patty also have little lamb taste that make it nicer. 🙂

geo (11)

Their Speghetti Carbonara is not bad, creamy and the speghetti is slightly overcook.

geo (12)

Beef Steak serve with Pasta @ RM 23 – serve with a choice of mushroom, blackpepper, garden salad with thousand island dressing and serve with aglio alio pasta. Love their aglio alio which is light in garlic taste and aromatic.

geo (13)

If you are there chilling with your friends then Chicken Wings @ RM 8 – Honey coated chicken wings serve with creamy cheese sauce. Is one of the snacks you must order. Serve pippin hot, crips on the skin and pairs well with their cream cheeze.

Surely this turns out to be one of the hotspot for many young people as during dinner they attract more young family crowd too. Will be one of my hang out spot soon too as they are pretty well known with their sisha.

Another new discovery for me as I seldom come to this Bangsar Shopping Mall. First discovery was a dining outlet next to this, WIP is pretty good and worth recommended the now after being invited to Nokia 501 Asha Launch with dinner incuded, I must say the 3 course meal of food quality is quite impressive at The Press Room.

pressroom (1)

Pressroom is an interpretation of a vintage European brasserie. The emphasis is on simple Anglo-French brasserie food made from the finest ingredients.

pressroom (3)

Love the ambiance, as its interior is modern European style.

pressroom (2)

Since there are 2 of us so I order 2 different sets of dinner.

pressroom (4)

pressroom (5)

I have never put any expectation in this dining as usually the food catering is pretty let down and start off with Pumpkin Soup. I must say I am suprise with how good this soup is. Slightly thick and creamy that good enough with well balance of taste. Not too strong or thick with pumpkin and well mixture of little cream that they are using. It was gone within seconds. One of the best pumpkin soup I can come acorross in KL.

pressroom (6)

Casear Salad is pretty decent.

pressroom (7)

Pan Fried Sea Bass with Spiced Chick Peas and Tomato Ragout. Fish is freash and being pan fried to perfection that the skin is slighlty crips with mild salted end along with fish meat is soft. Season spices chick peas pairs well with tomato ragout and fish. I put 3 of the ingredient onto my fish that burst in flavours. Loving it.

pressroom (8)

Grass Fed Rib Eye with Mixed Salad and Black Pepper Sauce

pressroom (9)

For such a place, I never thought that the Rib Eye is awesome. Soft and juicy. Serve medium and top into our list too for steak now.

pressroom (10)

For Carrot Cake, its one of the best I have come across, moist enough, not too dry and the icing is not to sweet. Perfect to eat along with a good coffee

pressroom (11)

Apple Tarte Tartin

pressroom (12)

Latte for the end of the meal.

For a nice dining or catch up with friend, this outlet had fallen into my recommended list also. Price are reasonable. Easily RM 40-RM100 per head depending on what you are ordering.

I guess for the pass 6 months is the big buzz off Burger and Cafe. In KL we have quite a few famous one like MYBurger Lab or street Burger Kaw Kaw (which is now overrated) with different version of it. In Penang Island, Marshall’s Burger had been a hit for the past 6 months with them starting selling burger at the road side in Pulau Tikus area, opposite Belissa Row that you will not miss a long queue at night after 8pm, this would make them hold the title Penang Best Burger. Not only that, the best part is they sell pork too.

Marshall's Burger (1)

Few months down the road, now they have successuflly bring the brand to another level by operating in a shop lot at Burmah Road or next to Penang Plaza.

Marshall's Burger (2)

A shop that filled with simple decoration in a old building with wooden menu that place all their signature burger on the wall.

Marshall's Burger (3)

Sitting place in here is rather limited as I was highly advise by my best friend to head there early, and I was lucky that they do operate for lunch on Weekends. as for weekedays only at night.

Marshall's Burger (4)

Marshall's Burger (5)

Menu is rather straight forward with few choices to choose from or different meat.

Marshall's Burger (7)

People like me, sure will do add on’s

Marshall's Burger (8)

Onion rings are pretty good by frying to perfection that its crisp inside out with Marshall special sauce, its like a combination of bbq with light sour sauce, will pair very well with beer. .Ended up order another portion  RM 6.50

Marshall's Burger (9)

The Biscon with 2 beef patty, 2 cheddar cheeze and [email protected] RM 15.80

Marshall's Burger (12)

Classic Beef @ RM 8.90

Marshall's Burger (10)

For pork lover, you can opt for this .. The Boar that comes with 2 patty, 2 cheeze and bacon @ RM 16.50

Marshall's Burger (17)

Here is my special verison of burger as I order only The Bull – with 1 beef patty and cheddar and I add on with 1 pork patty @ RM 6

Marshall's Burger (13)

Then we deconstruct the beef patty . . .

Marshall's Burger (14)

Grill till the meat is just nice, not too dry yet not too solid as in between have slight airy feel. Just nice.

Marshall's Burger (18)

here is my pork patty and I find beef taste better.

Marshall's Burger (11)

Those who do not prefer beef or Pork you can go for chicken which is Bacon Special Chicken Thigh with a cheeze and patty @ RM 8.90

Marshall's Burger (15)

The burger is pretty good and their amazing signature is the sauce that makes the whole thing different. Only set back is the bread that  they are using, not so fluffy and its doesn’t taste fresh. Sauce is good and if they can intorduce another 1 or 2 more then its perfect.

For this kind of price, its definitely a great bargain, and will surely return again.

If in Penang its will be a top  notch place and good enough to satisfy your burger craving. Please do not compare to other joint in KL.

Marshall's Burger (19)

My friends are all a good fan of this brand.

I have been to The Pool a few times for functions and friends party. Neither did I realise that there is actually a Japanese restaurant located above the premises  Its actually a new addition to the night spot and was previously operated by Spasso Milano before moving to Pavilion KL.- Kyoto Lab Japanese Restaurant

Kyoto (1)

With the restaurant name Kyoto Lab and there is actually a huge painting on the wall that resembles who is actually Kyoto for the restaurant.

Kyoto (2)

Its a very simple contemporary Japanese Restaurant with a simple touch of the culture.

Kyoto (3)

Simen wall and parquet wooden floor that made up the place and the best part is all their table is made of recycle materials (wood, steal and glass) which we are totally impress.

Kyoto (5)

Very simple menu with all the mains, appetizer and desert are available with reasonable pricing.

Kyoto (6)

A slight twist with western menu and some are infuse with beer.

Kyoto (4)

I was told that their yakitori range are pretty amazing.

Kyoto (7)

Kyoto Lab Summer Salad @ RM16

Kyoto (8)

Sashimi Nouyeou Salmon Trout turns out to be every ones favourite as a sashimi being drench with unique sweet and sour sauce, with a hint of slight spicy at the end. Certainly a unique dish as it is and worth to try!  RM25

Kyoto (9)

Kyoto (10)

Green Dragon @ RM24 – prawn rolled with Avocado.  Fresh fried prawns being roll along in the middle and make it one of a warm filling yet very fresh.

Kyoto (11)

California roll @ RM18

Kyoto (12)

This is one of my favorite for the night as cutting of mango cubes and tuna sashimi being rolled together.

Kyoto (13)

then comes the serving of yakitori range. . . Scallop Yakitori being grill to perfection. Soft and juicy and slightly chewy shows the freshness of the scallop. @ RM8

Kyoto (14)

Gyuniku Asparamaki turns out to be our favourite for the range as its thin slice beef being grill and season with their special sauce along with asparagus in it. Perfect! @ RM10

Kyoto (15)

Gyoza can be one of the best that I can find, pan fried perfectly on one sided that its crips and the filling in it is generous with ingredient, compact yet fragrant with their own seasoning. Soy sauce at the base make it a perfect combination.

Kyoto (16)

Egg plant

Kyoto (17)

Soft Shell Crab was finish within seconds as it was serve pippin hot, cripsy and soft inside. @ RM25

Kyoto (18)

Kyoto (19)

Kyoto (22)

Jagger Bomb always comes into my mind but this outlet they make slight twist on it to Skittles Bomb @ RM20 Cointreau, Red Bull and Skittles, is the combination and taste good. Sweet-end with skittles if you leave it too long. Drink it when it was serve immediate.

Kyoto (23)

Coco’s NutzMalibu, Rum & fresh coconut juice @ RM 28 is a must try cocktail with light coconut taste at the end yet alcohol kicks into your taste bud after that. Really one of its kind and no wonder they bagged the Winning Cocktail in 2011’s JTI Horeca Bartending Contest

Kyoto (24)

Watermelon Slush had made a big hit in their Hill Outlet as many people find this a good bargain and not only that, the presentation of the whole watermelon cut with at heart shape on it making it uniquely by itself and famous among couples. Till date its still one of their best seller. Doesnt taste alcoholic at all and its all overpower with watermelon taste and the more you drink, you will enjoy this drink alot as then the kick comes in, you can call it a night.. @ RM40

Kyoto (26)

This is no ordinary Milo Ais that you often took it at mamak stall, as the look of presentation might deceive you. They have made a special ingredient with it by adding Rum, Bailey, Kahlua and Milo @ RM 28

Kyoto (27)

Nutella Martini @ RM25

Food and drinks in Kyoto Lab certainly can impress us and of course it will be a great place to chill and dine with their amazing range both food and cocktail. Certainly I will be back~

In heritage trail Penang, there are many hidden gems with many nice cafes and restaurant. There are one especially are quite well known or no stranger to many locals, even this humble restaurant had manage to attract many local and foreign tourist to flock in. Tek Sen Restaurant 徳成飯店 that had been establish since 45 years ago and now had past to its 2nd generation and its growing, that quality and taste is still well maintain and consistent.

update Dec 2022: Teksen Restaurant Receive an award as now a Michelin Bib Gourmand outlet.

tEK seng (1)

This restaurant had move to its new premises to provide more comfy experience in classic dining, that tuck in one of busy area, Carnavon Street.

tEK seng (2)

Tek Sen Restaurant offer delicious Chinese cuisine, featuring a mix wide range of authentic Cantonese, Teowchew, Hakka and Peranakan delights with many years of experience by recipe passing down and improve.

tEK seng (3)

On its new premises offer bigger and more comfort dining experience for customer yet the whole interior still have a touch of old Tek Sen restaurant that used to operate few doors away.

tEK seng (4)

Start off with Fish Maw Soup @ RM 20 a bland mixture of many ingredient that during CNY this is one of the soup that many people ordered. Clear in taste that makes it a perfect soup to start off with.

tEK seng (5)

Every restaurant has its signature item and in Tek Sen, this Fried Roast Pork is one of their best seller that many customers will have to order if they dine here. Fried till a bit crips on the head, a bit spicy with chili padi, caramelize coated on the meat and usually we had 2 plates of this. RM 28highly recommended~

tEK seng (6)

Followed by Inchi Kai Bin @ RM 14

tEK seng (7)

This big juicy prawns is Asam Prawns.  The flavor of tamarind is there, well coated along the prawns that every bite of the prawn is juicy yet the flavor is well balance.  RM 49

tEK seng (8)

Not many people like this dish, Bitter gourd fried along with salty duck egg and mince meat, as the bitterness of it had prevent many people on liking it including me, I used to dislike this dish yet I have been tought on how to enjoy it. Since then, I do order it when I have the change. A dish that fried simple that bitterness of the vegetable is not too strong and mix well with the taste of salty duck [email protected] RM 12

tEK seng (9)

Another one of their signature range is their curry. So we ordered on their Curry Fish (sting Ray) @ RM 23, As I like how my Asam fish is sourness is stronger and after taste of it is a bit spicy at the end. Curry gravy is not too thick and to mix with your rice to eat along is just perfect~ – Recommended

tEK seng (10)

One of my friend always dine here and he never miss this dish which is 3 steam egg. Different types of egg which is (century, duck and normal egg) to steam on it. A dish which is very simple, fragrant as just add on some garlic oil on top then add on some soy sauce, you will enjoy this simple dish alot~ @ RM 6

At Tek Sen, which is a restaurant that many of my friends love to dine and no doubt too that they have gain international popularity from a few types of magazine came by to feature them. A place to hunt if you are looking for nice homecook meal without disappointing.

On the set back about this place is there are very limited parking space available around the area and no matter during lunch or dinner its always super pack! It is advise to go early to enjoy full range of their food list as the later you went, there will be some dish sold out.

another recommended restaurant in Penang.
