Coffee places are not only booming in KL and it had spread their coffee fever wings till up north. Ipoh I have been one which is good yet have not blogged about it and lets head to Penang first instead since this whole week my posting is on Penang food – Lighthouse Coffee .

I have seen my cousin, sister and friends instagraming on this place and yet I have still went to try till few weeks back. Manage to gather the usual gang and it was highly recommended by them too for coffee. Before coming over to this place, we were at Twelve Cups and it was rather dissapointing which I will blog about it soon to accomodate it then quickly finish the session there and head to this place Lighthouse Coffee – Specialty Coffee & Espresso Specialist which is one street away from Twelve Cups.

Fun fact is that Lighthouse Coffee started as early as 2006, before the boom of coffee (which is now).

Have gotten to known that this outlet had gain its popularity within months after its opening and many backpackers travelers do stop by to get a cuppa in early morning or tea time session that operating in Heritage zone would be one of their advatage. Its not a huge cafe but comfort enough to store a few of us. Alot of coffee drinkers here are quite friendly as we do share table.

Some of us are quite hungry and decided to order some of their food Tuna Nicoise Panini @ RM 11.90. simple yet done to perfection with wholemeal bread those to crisp and fillings in it with cheeze and tuna are blend well to accomdate the taste with home dressing to pair along.

lighthouse (8)

Bagel with Double Cheeze & Egg @ RM 10.90 gave me a suprise as I never put expectation in it. Would be a great choice for breakfast.

lighthouse (10)

The best that kept us eating is this Baby Asparagus Aglio Alio @ RM 15.90 turns out to be good. Speghetti is al dante, and flavor is mild enough to get out the taste of pepper, tomato and hint of black pepper after taste. Ended up order another plate.

lighthouse (9)

Crepes is not up to my expectation as we can easily hunts better ones out there. RM 10 if I am not mistaken.

lighthouse (11)

For coffee the rest of us had Latte, Chocolate and Ice chocolate. Not only that as we were impress with the coffee art they had drawn with flower, which is the common ones. With below .. .

First time seeing a cafe draw a kitty. Then this mug had turn to become super star for instant moment. Among a few other coffee outlets available in the area, Lighthouse Coffee certainly the winner in terms of coffee taste and the bean they use is Arabica beans. Taste milder.

Parking around the area is quite limited and based on your luck. 🙂

Latte @ RM 9 and Chocolate @ RM 10.90

Been to Mid Valley very often, as I did not notice there is O’Briens Sandwich shop available here too. Friends told me that they have just started operation a few months back, as one of the reason without knowing it that I rarely walk over to Jusco wing as usually I walk around center court or the GSC wing.

o'brian (1)

Being a sandwich lover, there are a few brands that I occasionally hunt for, and O’Brien is definately in my list as often dine in their 1-U branch.

o'brian (2)

O’briens Irish Sandwich Cafe, well known as highly branded lifestyle chain cafe for their healthy and freshly made to order sandwiches, salads, wrappos, soups, freshly squizzed juices, refreshing smoothies, gourmet coffees, cakes, Irish snacks and outside catering platters. . No doubt that they serve good sandwiches . . .

o'brian (3)

They have drinks counter for you to choose from if you do not find anything interesting here, you can always order from the menu available with fresh juices and smoothies in the list.

o'brian (4)

Its rather simple, you can pick and choose what is available from the menu or you feel like you want to customize your own sandwich it is also available. Besides that they have this sandwich counter is for you to see that they sandwich is made fresh and on the spot.

Looking at my favorite sandwich being prepared, Triple Decker with the first layer done . .

o'brian (12)

topping in another layer and can you see how generous the ingredient they are giving. .

o'brian (13)

To start off with our healthy diet for the day, Classic Caesar Salad is the first came by and its quite a huge bowl by being charge at RM16.00. Its rich with ingredients and you can see the amount of chicken cutlets, chicken crisp, crouton, olive, mixed leaves and shower with homemade caesar dressing is just a great way to start off the meal. Of course this is shared.

o'brian (14)

My all time favourite – Chicken Tripledecker @  RM 18.80 – Recommended!

o'brian (15)

Do not  look down on the size of the sandwich and I did it before and end up could not finish the sandwich, as when eating the 3rd piece I am pretty filled up already. Its a wholemeal bread toasted filled with white lean chicken meat and brown chicken crisp on the upper deck and another layer is filled with lettuce, cheddar cheese, red onion, mixed peppers, coleslaw and tomato.

o'brian (16)

Hot Chicken Slice and Cheddar Cheese Shambo RM15.80

o'brian (17)

I found new love for this sandwich with its bread is super soft, simple in taste that top with just cheeze, and ham. I just finish the whole piece by myself. Along the way I got inform by my friend as he explains to me that Shambo here refers to the shamrock shaped foccacia bread. Simply because shamrock (three-leafed old white clover) symbolises Ireland, as that is how the bread shape is created.

o'brian (19)

Chicken, Chicken Crisp and Cheddar Wrappo – onions, capsicums, chicken meats, crispy chicken chips, tomato and cheese. @ RM 16.50

Last weekend, I had a very short trip back to Penang to help my friend photo shoot on his new range of food that going to promote for the next 6 months which I have previously blog about it (click here to view) and while I was there, I manage to think back to find a place that it had been long time have never dine there. Kedai Kopi Chip Heng

When I was a kid, my dad used to bring me here, that I used to bugged him on weekends, as it was quite a distance from Penang to mainland to hunt for this meal and at that time I was addicted to their soup taste, sour veggie.

Yam Rice

When I reach there, I remember one of the shop used to be my favourite but I could not remember which is the one as there are 2 shops side by side selling the same thing but different taste, as I lost my memory, I just chin chai entered one of the shop which turns to be Kedai Kopi Chip Heng.

Yam Rice (2)

What they sell is called, Yam Rice (one of their main selling item) to go along with soup that filled with mixture of pig’s spare part.

Yam Rice (4)

You can choose the parts that want to be added in into your bowl or mix everything ( I love it to be mix of everything) in the small bowl boil it for a while till its cook, then they will add the soup after that.

Yam Rice (3)

Yam Rice (5)

This is ‘Salted Vegetable Soup with Pork Innards’ with one of their special taste was the soup base, which is created much from salted veggie (Kiam Chai – in hokkien) and it had been quite some time since I last taste it and find it another feel like sour plum which happens to be quite strong which me and my friend find it quite weird but as I remember the when I was a kid it doesn’t taste like that (more on sour veggie).

Yam Rice (6)

Then the auntie introduce us their ‘Tau Yew Bak’ that had been stew for quite some time till the pork intestine its very soft and a bit chewy and if the meat would have been softer a bit it would have been perfect. I just love the taste of the Tau Yew as it similar to my grandma’s cooking that I had long missed. We just finish this bowl within seconds.

Yam Rice (7)

If you are in this coffee shop and ordered white rice it would be just very weird (would be more like ordering Wan Tan Mee without Wantan) as they are famous for their ‘Yam Rice’.

Love the Yam Rice that have diced yam cubes are deep – fried to a crisp, add in sauteed dried shrimps to cook with the rice till its not too dry is just delicious to go along with the soup.

Yam Rice (8)

The best part is all the pig spare part must dip with their special ‘In house Chili’ to add in the kick of it.

After finishing the meal, I am still not satisfied that it doesn’t give me the umph of it then went to the next stall to tap au back their taste and while I was at home after reheat it again, I just found out that that’s the shop I wanted to go with its strong taste of sour veggie. Both shop also had their own customer with different taste wise, hence for me, I love the one next to this shop and as I remember, my cousin loves this shop compare to the one I like. (depends on your taste bud)

Total damage for 2 pax is RM15 including drinks which we find it very cheap.
