Any of you love Penang food? I guess most of you do right and most of you would travel up North during long weekend for the awesome street food. Guess what! Now we have discover one new outlet that newly open in Kota Damansara recently that sell alot of best Penang street food under one roof, known as Penang One. Their first outlet is in Bandar Puteri, Puchong.

pg 1 (1)

Located in the heart of Kota Damansara where parking would be a big headache for you and this doesnt stop us from hunting it. Since our first visit, we have been going back as regular and I must say that the food is as good as where you can find in Penang. Definately not 100% but its at 80% similar which is good for us down in Klang Valley here.

pg 1 (2)

I am sure many of you still have yet discover fully where is the best food in Penang and the same goes to me. The owner have this big mission that wanted to provide folks in KL for good Penang food and therefore he himself as a Penangnite have work out a contract with all this famous hawker people to provide all the ingredients. All this being transport down to KL 2 days once. Therefore the taste is pretty much 80% the same as the famous hawker owner train all the staff themselves..

pg 1 (3)

The owner have marked down all the famous hawker stall location in the map and light history on the wall where he brought down here.

pg 1 (4)

Here you go on the list if you fancy any of the street food.

pg 1 (5)

Place here are pretty cozy and service here is pretty good~

pg 1 (6)

If you worry how they cook your meal and they have open concept kitchen for your viewing and those of you who loves the Tambun Biscuits & now they are available here too with the brand Him Heang which is one of my favourite brand. Now you need not queue that long as its while stock last daily.

pg 1 (7)

Lets see what we can have here and 8 of us are already very hungry.

pg 1 (8)

What is available in the menu is sufficient to stop our craving back in our hometown and we particularly ordered the whole menu, to try out on the taste.

pg 1 (9)

Homemade Otak Otak which is one of my favourite, no doubht that this taste exactly the same as one of my favourite stall. Steam to perfection that its soft on the outside and a huge slice of fish being inserted in the middle with fragrant leaves that absorb it very well. RM4.50 I have no complain in that.

pg 1 (10)

Those of you that miss Chee Cheong Fun, its all the way from Macalister Road. Prawn paste is good and just thick enough to coat around the chee cheong fun and although its not from my favourite Genting Kopitiam but this is as good as an alternative for me. @RM 3.90

pg 1 (16)

I certainly love Bak Chang – Special Dumpling @ RM 8.90 and alot people come here make a take away back to other country as they are being made fresh and air tight it in a pack of 8 if not mistaken. Then just put it into a boiling water for 5 minutes then you can eat it after that, with sticky rice and not too salty yet with generous amount of Ingredient.

pg 1 (21)

Another version of Bak Chang will be the white base and if not mistaken is the Teo Chew style as the filling is more towards peanuts. Not bad either as Ken loves this one and me prefer the traditional one.

pg 1 (17)

For Loh bak is hail all the way from Kheng Pin Kopitiam if not mistaken as I did saw a visual on that kopitiam on the wall. The Loh Sauce is as good as it is that is thicken, prawn crackers are fried to perfection. @RM 11.90

pg 1 (18)

The Asam Laksa is pretty well known in Lorong Selamat that I have not try before. When you talk about Lorong Selamat everyone’s thought would be Char Koey Teow! Nevertheless this is as good as it is, that cook with alot of mince fish meat and top with a few slices of fish as the top as we add on with additional RM1.50 . Soup is as good as the famous ones in Penang, sour enough and light spicy end with fish fragrant taste.. @ RM 8.50

pg 1 (11)

This is another stall that I have not tried before in Penang which is Kampung Jawa Char Koey Teow and I ask my friend they say its very good and their business hours is only from 7am – 10am daily and have to wait at least 30 minutes – 45 minutes for your plate to be serve. Will go back and try the original one but before that, the Char Koey Teow in this outlet best most of the stalls in KL. Cook till with wok hei and the koey teow is slight dry to my linking and top with huge prawns @RM 9.50

pg 1 (12)

This is the Yam Cake @ RM 5.50

pg 1 (13)

Ahh, version of Curry Mee is hard to find in Klang Valley they need to be serve along with pork blood. Most of the curry mee here is in curry soup base. Penang version is, soup is fragrant with light pandan and mild santan taste the follow I add in one full scoop of curry to make it fiery red. Perfect as it is. @ RM 8.50

pg 1 (14)

I get to know that Klang Valley is not pretty well known for Duck Meat Koey Teow Soup but i have always love mine in this version. Sou is sweet and filled with duck meat, fish balls, pork balls and fish cake that all is home made except pork ball.

pg 1 (15)

If you love New World Park Ice Kacang then you gonna love this as it taste exactly the same. I prefer the Ice Kacang @ RM 6.50 more than the Cendul.

pg 1 (19)

This make no exception as well Tee Nya Kuih from there as well @ RM 3.50. Have to be serve chill then add in gula melaka to eat along. Soft as it is and gula melaka is not too sweet.

pg 1 (20)

Muar Chee @ RM 3.90, as the difference is the peanut base as its slightly more fine.

pg 1 (22)

Rojak @ RM 7.50 is not the best one from Penang to my own preference but some they love it as well.

pg 1 (23)

This is my very own special request on my chilhood snacks. A huge slice of Seng Kuang then top the rojak sauce on the top add on with peanuts after that.

pg 1 (24)

This is what happen to us when we found something good and hail all the way back from our hometown. We order so much that we inteded to give it a sharing at first and end up most of us having each plate each.

If you are craving for Penang food and lazy to drive all the way up north, here is one of the best place you can find in Klang Valley and no complain at all. It beats alot of stall out there, and had become our weekly affair,  some is daily. 😀

Price is pretty reasonable with the concept that the owner is trying to do and portion is average. Not too big nor too small or if you compare to KL serving portion its definitely slightly smaller. A highly Recommended place by me for Penang food.

Any one of you fancy China food? I do, as I have dine before many good authentic China food before and definitely not in Malaysia. One of my best friend introduce me her all time favourite sze chuan food that located in Jalan Alor (click here). Then recently, I am being introduce to another type of China food which hail all the way from North China. Dong Bei is actually a province in North China and the owners have migrated to Malaysia, hence that is how the Dong Bei Restaurant is name after. The family came to Malaysia as early as 1992 and also known as one of the pioneer of authentic China food back in those early days. As now the restaurant is located behind Times Square, can you see that area is like a mini China eatery street.

Dong Bei (1)

In China, there are many province and taste definitely different for any other town that they have, it is the same as Malaysia too, as the East coast and WEst cost taste bud are very much different. So what is the difference for Dong Bei Food. The food have more sourish end and not that spicy. ( as the owner have localize it)

Dong Bei (2)

Its a simple restaurant and indoor seating is a unique dining experience as they have design in a way to give a little ambiance of what Dong Bei dining feels like.

Dong Bei (3)

Dong Bei (4)

this is the first time I came across utensils are properly wrap to kept the cleanliness of it.

Dong Bei (5)

Beancurd Dong Bei Style (风味干豆腐丝)RM18. Import all the way from China as its hard to find this kind of texture that originate the authenticity of it. Its a cold platter with chewy texture and hint of garlic and spicy chili oil taste. Pretty good to start off with.

Dong Bei (13)

Crisp Potato (香辣土豆片) @ RM18 for a start would be another good option.

Dong Bei (7)

This is another unique dish which is Dong bei Da La Pi sheet with Cucumber Salad (东北大拉皮)RM14. AT first glance I thought it was pig skin that finely cut then its not. Sprinkle with some garlic and eat it sheet by sheet, that taste a bit like jelly fish and pig skin texture cross over. 😀

Dong Bei (6)

Sauerkraut, stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉) @ RM18

Dong Bei (8)

Stewed Eggplant, Bean, Potato and Meat Dong Bei style (东北大乱炖) @ RM25. This is rather simple as I would rate this North China Curry, thick n creamier gravy and its a little sweet in taste at the end. Well fried and I quite like it. Goes well with my rice.

Dong Bei (9)

Hot & Spicy Seafood (麻辣香锅)RM28

Amount so many dishes, this would turn out one of the most spicies compare to the rest, the spiciness is not to the extend to make our mouth numb, as I find its well balance, even though cook with lots of dry chili, do not let the look to scare you off. I love how they cook along with lotus root make it crisp on the bite and prawns is fresh.

Dong Bei (10)

Boiled Fish with Sour Cabbage and Spicy Soup (酸菜鱼) RM32

Dong Bei (14)

This turns out to be one of the favourite among my table, as strong sourish taste with veggie and fresh fish. Those who like mild spicy, this would be a good option.

Dong Bei (11)

“Gardens”Prawn, Lotus Root, Potato and Vegetables (田园小炒) RM28

Dong Bei (12)

I rate this is super star for the night as Sweet & Sour Pork ( 锅包肉 ) was fried to perfection and its so cripsy outside and the pork inside its not overcook. Taste with a bit of sour vinegar taste with soy sauce that turn it a good [email protected] RM18 – recommended

Dong Bei (15)

Lastly, we did not order the Dumplings (10 pcs) (饺子) but looking at so many tables order dish its like a must have thing and ended up we order 2 portion. One is steam @ RM10 and another one is [email protected] RM8

Great starter to go along and if mix with a bit of chili oil with ginger and vinegar, I just like mine to be in that way. 😉

Good food is definitely hard to find, more ever those that you found and like, quality to maintain is another challenge. One place definately did not let us down so far is Sanook Bistro and Spots Bar never let us down so far, even we patron this place numerous time as normal customer, the consistantcy of food is there. I have blog about this place before last year (click here). This restaurant is actually a hidden restaurant right in Kelana Jaya yet overlook the lake.

sanook (2)

As for football fans, its will be a great place to hang out too, with huge screen special beer promo and ample parking around the area. As for this year, the Godfather had decided its time to change its food menu and came out with interesting food range that never fail to impress us.

Sanook (1)

I am totally impress with their wine menu, as this is the first time I came across a restaurant that write the characteristic of the wine and description of drinking. A totally perfect menu for me that I always have difficulties in looking for my bottle of wine yet asking the waiter/waitress they would not know what to recommend.

Sanook (2)

As its still early, we decided to chill with their signature Margarita @ RM11. A glass that is not too strong, with perfectly blend ice filled with salt at the glass and a slice of lemon. I ended having 2 glass. 😀

Sanook (3)

Jeng Jeng JEng.. here is the new menu, a unique way of capturing attention with chef special and road sign being install as a main attention grabber icon in the menu. BY many unique names and description in the menu have the attraction to attack us by telling us everything is good. – Dangerous!

Sanook (4)

Gyro Lamb Pita @ RM18 – Sliced boneless marinated lamb leg with veggies & black olives, stuffed in fresh homemade pita bread packets, with special yoghurt mint mint sauce. It look rather simple like any other pita bread that I am having. With first bite, lamb being well marinated and burst with flavor as the taste is even better when you dip with their yogurt mint.

Sanook (5)

Spicy Mermaid Salad @ RM22

For greens lover, something light to go after with seafood then it is filled with Sauteed tiger prawns & calamari rings tossed with roasted capsicums, asparagus, cubed Japanese cucumbers & romaine lettuce in Sanook’s special house dressing.

Sanook (6)

I prefer Moogus Salad @ RM22

Grilled Sirloin Beef & Asparagus tossed with wild rocket salad topped with parmesan cheese and roasted red capsicums in house special dressings. As its just simple and I always prefer meat over seafood in salad. 😀

Sanook (7)

Kim Yang Lamb Cutlets @ RM52

Kim’s favorite lamb cutlets coated in Korean Spices, charbroiled to perfection & accompany with Korean Kimchi. As unique as the name could tell you, this lamb certainly is one of a recommended dish in the menu. Marinated to perfection and cook to well that the meat is tender and juicy. Sauce is totally unique and nearly bone licking good.

Sanook (8)

Masala Rib Eye @ RM42

Prime cuts of beef rib eye (250 gram) coated with chef’s special mix of garam masala, grilled to perfection and accompany by vegetable kebabs.

Sanook (9)

A mix for us sometimes would be good as it give you the option. Again the sauce is the main item not to be miss to dip.

Sanook (10)

Sotong Otak Otak @ RM30

Sanook (11)

Grilled whole squid (250 grams) stuffed with prawn otak otak (spicy prawn paste), served with sambal tumis , pilaf rice, garden greens, garnished with prawn crackers, almond & fried shallots

Sanook (12)

When I saw this in the menu, I told myself I must order this – Espresso ChickenRM25. Something its totally unique and first time I came across.

Tender chicken chop with espresso honey glazed and then roasted to perfection & served with pomelo salad, corn mojo, citrus bean salsa paired with tortilla chips. Sauce on the chicken is just amazing.

Sanook (14)

Teriyaki Char Siew @ RM22 – Tenderly broiled chicken, brushed with special sweet soy sauce marinate, garnished with piquant plum sauce & green onions served with herbal pilaf rice

Sanook (13)

Tom Yum Goong Pisek @ RM29 – Soup lover that love tomyum, its bad that you miss this soup as the owner himself is nearly half Thai and very particular of his soup that he needs to ensure that the soup stays authentic as possible whereby what he prefer. Spicy enough to make you go numb for a while, sourish enough to my level and a perfect companion with rice.

Sanook (15)

I always told myself, I am going to skip their pizza this round yet I always end up ordering. SPICY THAI MANGO TUNA PIZZA. They are well famous for their hand tossed thin crust pizza. @ RM 33

Sanook (16)

In this bar, their firewood pizza is also one of their signature item that must not miss, home made thin crust with generous filling is always a must with beer while watching football. This is totally new flavour, weird by its name but taste good in your mouth.

Sanook (17)

Some of you might not like the sesame seed like me as I do not prefer the taste yet the aroma of lamb help me pair off the taste well. Sesame Honey Lamb Pizza @ RM35

Sanook (18)

Marie’s Crepe Suzette @ RM17 – Freshly pan fried french crepes flavored with creamy fresh orange juice and citrus zest. Orange zest taste might be a bit strong especially taste of orange skin taste is very visible but when comes to desert its hard for me to say no. crepes are thick in a mouthful bite are just nice and orange pairs it well yet a scoop of ice cream would me it perfect!

Sanook (19)

Every one went crazy of this Henry’s mud cake @ RM11. Serve pippin hot, small portion enough to satisfy your desert crave or end your dinner in style that mud cake is moist with warm chocolate in it.

Sanook (20)

After reading the post, might sound that I have like praised nearly everything, well, this is the Sanook Bistro that we are expecting as it never fail us with their consistant food quality as I have mention and the chef behind all these food are just amazing to make every portion right and perfect. As far as I know their new menu is amazing.

Good for you to give it a try.

Every year during Ramadan month, I love to hunt for pasar ramadan and I have been to a few that is quite dissapointing around my area. Did went back to TTDI pasar Ramadan and it seems much smaller this year compare to last year as they cover the whole square. This year is only 1 of the street more like 1/4 of the size last 2 year. (click here). Pasar Ramadan Section 14.

Then my colleague mention to me that, at Section 14 behind the mosque. . She mention that most of the food here are pretty good ..

pasar ramadan (1)

Upon arrival I thought its gonna be a big one and I finish walking within 5 minutes. So walk around and scout which stall to buy . .

pasar ramadan (2)

apparently I realize that most of the stalls here are pretty commercialize that they do branding themselves with banners and some with name card. Impress~

This is one of the stalls that is the most popular in the whole area as they have the longest queue. Penang Popiah . .

pasar ramadan (3)

I didnt know Penang Popiah is in this version . . .dry`

pasar ramadan (4)

It looks messy and messy stalls always serve good food, I didnt try because of the queue,  maybe you can try then let me know 🙂

pasar ramadan (5)

pasar ramadan (6)

Ikan Bakar

pasar ramadan (7)

pasar ramadan (8)

Rendang stalls

pasar ramadan (9)

Texture and colour looks good. Definately smells tempting ..

pasar ramadan (10)

Nasi Beriani Gam . .

pasar ramadan (11)

Looks good though and the stall owner is friendly. .

pasar ramadan (12)

Ayam bakar

pasar ramadan (13)

Among so many stalls, this caught my attention the most, first of all with its name Barbarian Grill Sandwich and I guess since after Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw, you can see many grill stall in Pasar Ramadan and I realise that I no longer see burger ramlee style burger selling . . A change of trend?

pasar ramadan (14)

We decided to give it a try as they have their own home made patty that looks pretty good and price ranges, with Special means just add a slice of Cheeze with additional for RM2 I find it pretty expensive for a stall like that.

pasar ramadan (15)

The look of it certainly is tempting ..

pasar ramadan (16)

this is the Special Beef and Chicken

pasar ramadan (17)

Here it comes with my Beef Special for RM7 top with homemade gravy and mushroom. Meat had grill to perfection that its juicy and moist in there with the cheeze half melted on the patty is just perfect!

If you ask me for RM7 for a small packet like that its pretty expensive with its patty light weight and small if you compare with other outlets. It taste good and worth to try.

this is the only place you can hunt for it as its still on their testing stage.

One of the local delights that I keep bugging my friend to bring me is one of their favourite shop that serve super spicy food which I did not know until I have tasted it. Taliwang Bersaudara

Taliwang (1)

The restaurant deco feels a bit modernise kampung style with wooden walls. . . .

Taliwang (2)

as most of the people here eating with hands with more towards their culture and did not really switch on fan also . .

Taliwang (3)

Bamboo partition, ceiling deco and chairs with wooden tables  .. . .

Taliwang (4)

The price of food is prett reasonable . . . .

Taliwang (5)

One of the must order dish is this ‘Ayam Palecing Taliwang’ well grill and spread with their own home made chili, definately will bring you to the edge of sweat and get your tongue to get numb, the taste of chicken is good, well marinated and the meat is soft. .

Taliwang (6)

Then  my friend told us that, if not enough spicy can add on spicy as she order another place of ‘Sambal Ayam’ which is not my league. . . I surrender. .

Taliwang (7)

Then to blend the spiciness flavor, my friend help us order ‘fried duck salty egg’ for us to add on and surprisingly the taste turns out to be good, saltiness and the spiciness just blends in and goes along well with rice.

Taliwang (8)

Pelacing Kangkung, added on with bean sprout is another spicy dish and the spicy level is mild and by this round I had already finish 2 bottle of Teh Bottol . .

Taliwang (9)

Among all level of spiciness, this is the most kick ass, by second small bite, my sweat and tears just flow out and this is by far one of the most spicy food I have come across, SUPER SPICY yet  the spiciness is a bit addictive as it is very fragrant with a bit grill taste from the chicken, just by this 2 bite I finish another bottle of Teh Bottol. .

Taliwang (11)

By the end of the meal I had total of 5 bottles of drinks, which I did not even finish my rice and other dishes that it was too spicy to handle and eat till my lips also ‘chong’ like sausage already. The other 2 person was like, hah? Spicy kah uncle? I told them you guys are not human, eating chili like licking ice cream . .

Well, to those who really love spicy food, this is one of the Bandung local food that you must visit . .

For those who are working far from home and do miss mom’s cooking or home cook food, definitely I am recommending this restaurant as it sure does have the style home cook of my grandma and mom. Quite authentic and strong in taste which I always prefer my food to be, sure will not hesitate to recommend this restaurant . .. I never knew Section 17 hidden some nice food as Anson Food Company is one of them.

anson (1)

anson (2)

A restaurant that lit up with very simple light bulbs and normal plastic eating table that brings the mood of kopitiam cum restaurant style back in laid back small town.

anson (3)

You will be pampered with quite a range of food available in this restaurant quality is there.

anson (4)

In the menu, I always try to look for something different to try and I found this Mint, Ginger & Honey @ RM 6 is something very refreshing and those who do not like ginger or mint, I can tell you that it blends very well in this drink and the taste is not too strong. I like it very much as I ended up having 2 glass.
