Dinner Crowd

Browsing

As on the way back to KL, and I just love my friend Ian as he always love to find food during his sales discover over the other states then will bring me there whenever he had the chance or when I follow him, cuz he knows I love to eat in those kind of hidden places. Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain is one of a good recommendation.

This journey, he decided to stop by Ipoh and bring me to this Bercham area which is the other side of Ipoh, that I will consider pretty outskirt already. If you consider coming from Ipoh town it will easily take about 30 mins – 45 mins to reach here.

Rasa Lain (1)

Neverthe less, if you ask me to drive another round again to this place, I think I am capable or driving myself here as I did recognise a few buildings. . .:D

Rasa Lain (2)

Okay, cut things short that we reach here pretty early as no wonder he hurry me from Penang, that he tried to reach here to beat the heavy dinner crowd. I notice quite a moment later upon our arrival, family by family start to pouring in and I asked Ian, that the people there “sot sot (means crazy in hokkien) one? so early come dinner? as it was bout 5.45pm – 6pm and near half full already.” He explain people around the area eat dinner early!

According to Ian, you must pre-order their signature item if not, its hard for you to order their signature item on the night itself as they are trying to safe the best for the customers either by choosing one of the item. As to order, I let Ian take care of what;s for dinner .

Rasa Lain (3)

Signature Claypot glass noodle

Rasa Lain (4)

It was serve boiling hot as when I took a few other picture it was misty and the side of it is still boiling. The soup is sweet with freshness that cook along with the crab and glass noodle cook to perfection. Crab were fresh and meat is hard.

Rasa Lain (5)

Another signature ‘Cheeze Prawn Claypot’ while it was servce right infront of me, the smells entrails to my nose and I istantly swallow my saliva as the smells is just too good! As we dig up, look at the cheeze ooze and flow around the claypot with its stickiness texture like pizza, I just cant wait to put it into my mouth. Cheeze topple nicely on the fresh prawn and eat it along with rice is just a match made in heaven.

Rasa Lain (6)

Vegetable nothing to shout about .. .

Rasa Lain (7)

As we finish our meal, I observe alot of table also order this ‘Saito Fishball’ which is homemade and being steam in high temperature then after that just add on some simple soy sauce with fish oil and garlic. To me is nothing to shout about too as its just another home made fish ball that are a bit bouncy.

I find the price is quite reasonable as 3 of us ate about RM 110 for all the above. It was another great and satisfying mean that Ian had intro me, as on the way back to KL he stop and buy 2 small bottles of mineral water and mee too. Only found out that the dish uses quite alot MSG as no wonder it taste super good!

There are alot of buzz on this brand from my friends since their first opening outlet in Bangsar. Have always wanted to pay a visit till postpone many times. Ben’s is pretty well known to many people since its first opening in Bangsar Village and now they had expended to KLCC.

Bens (1)

Ben’s is pretty well know for its interior design that provides customer a very cozy dining experience. As for their outlet in KLCC they had taken over California Kitchen’s lot and now they had a great view that over look the KLCC park.

Bens (2)

As one of the reason that brings me here is that my best friend from Indonesia pay me a visit and decided to bring them to dine here. As the queue is always there, we waited for about 15 minutes for our table.

Bens (3)

Now only I realise that why people make a buzz about this outlet that you can see they really put in alot money in designing their outlet. No wonder so many people like to hang here and my friends also mention its a nice restaurant.

Bens (4)

They design it in a few dining sections in different designs.

Bens (5)

With sofa base, casual dining base, and proper dining area.

Bens (6)

Price wise are pretty reasonable for a shop like that.

Along the highway as I always travel back and forth, by trailing away Nibong Tebal small town sign board along the highway as it was last round that I was heading back to KL by following my best friends Ian, both he and his friend decided to bring me to dine in this small little town. They told me that you will be surprise what they can offer for that kind of cheap price. Cheap as in SERIOUSLY CHEAP. *doubting.

pork knuc (1)

Nibong Tebal is actually located at Penang, Mainland and I rate Swee Garden Seafood restaurant is a hidden gem in the town as a place that famous among local that is about 10 minutes drive away from the toll exit to reach here. Which is pretty easy to drive here by recognizing a huge flyover to make  a turn.

Was told by both of them have to reach here freaking early to avoid massive huge dinner crowd that many dining tables will spill out to the road side as we reach around 5.30pm to have a very early dinner before heading back to KL.

pork knuc (2)

AS early as 5.30pm there are quite a number of families are already dining here.

pork knuc (3)

Fried Lala with Ginger is something that is fried simple yet infuse with chinese wine in it make it very addictive with hint of some spicy from ginger and fine slice chili.

pork knuc (4)

Asam Prawns is a big fat juicy prawns that well prepared and marinated. I whack nearly half of it.

pork knuc (5)

Simple fried veggie nothing much to shout about.

pork knuc (6)

Signature Crispy Fried Pork Knuckle

pork knuc (7)

A portion that most of the table would order or I would say must not miss. Deep fried to perfection that the skin is very crispy, yet the meat in it is still soft and the amount of fats in between is just nice. This is not German Pork Knuckle therefore they do not serve any gravy along as this is Chinese Cross over cuisine. Just serve along with pickled shallots and tomato slices. – Recommended!

Total Damage we had for the dinner is about RM 75 for 3 pax which I would rate it reasonable cheap and not as ‘very’ cheap as my friend mention since its located in this small town, as also since we have a huge chunk of Pork Knuckle and some seafood along its decently price in this small town.

Surely I would not mind to recommended for you to drive all the way here to try it out for travelers also.

How many of you do you actually crave for Thai food? Chok Dee Thai Restaurant. I am one of them without denying I am a fan of thai food because of the spicy and sour taste in their food. Last round when I went to Bangkok with my friend we seriously had like 1 day 6 meals trip that suppose to be a shopping trip that I had transform it into makan trip. 😀

chok Dee Thai (1)

In Penang to find nice restaurant that serve Thai food is actually not many and I can tell you that Chok Dee Thai is one of them. Many of  my friends love this restaurant as I often see them check in foursquare in this outlet. To me, its quite hidden actually as I have pass Burmah Road many times without realizing actually there is a restaurant until last round I was back in Penang, we have a small little makan gathering with my best friend which there are 13 of us.. The usual 2 or 3 will only turn out. That doesnt bother me, as long as I can order many food to eat. 😀

chok Dee Thai (2)

This shop serve Pork! nice ahh~ How can you enjoy Thai Food without pork dishes. On the downside, I find that the pricing is a bit more expensive compare to many restaurants available out there.

chok Dee Thai (3)

This restaurant is not huge but its longish that can accomote limited people in the outlet, best to advice that you head there early if not you have to wait for first round of dinner crowd to get over then only its your turn. We reach early and its quite empty, as the place just got filled within 20 minutes. My best friend know the owner as he is one of the regular there.

chok Dee Thai (4)

Love the decorations of the outlet that resembles some Thai influence even the cute doll also welcome you, Savadeekap~

chok Dee Thai (5)

chok Dee Thai (6)

For a classic drink in Thai Restaurant I usually wont miss their Lemon Grass, indeed its refreshing and the lemon grass taste is quite solid, just as I prefer.

chok Dee Thai (7)

For me, to try out a Thai Restaurant Tomyam I would always go for their clear soup base which is the authentic taste from Thai not the fiery red tomyam we usually have which is only Malaysian style. Clear Chicken Tom Yam did not fail to impress us as Collen drink every sip and keep praising every sip of it. Its a bit spicy after taste, and more towards sour that is why most girl will love it. By far I think this is one of the best clear soup I have come across.  RM19

chok Dee Thai (8)

Green Curry Chicken that is cook to perfection that the curry is not too watery nor thick that just perfect to go along with rice. A few basil leaves to make the taste a bit more kick and a bit creamy taste is just as expected.  RM12

chok Dee Thai (9)

My heng tai Tatt keep asking me lai lai, please feature me, so he take a dish and ask me to snap. Thai Seafood Otak-otak @ RM16

chok Dee Thai (10)

Another dish that I wont miss is the Otak-Otak that one thing we got deceive was it look huge but in the middle the have like a mini bowl to make it stood round. It was cook till the curry well coated with the seafood, a bit creamy sweet and sour, hint of strong basil taste some might love it some do not. To me it was just nice.

chok Dee Thai (11)

This is what Tatt said must have. Their Pork Knuckle which cook in Thai Style. The meat cook till soft and juicy that fork can easily remove the skin and the meat. The fat layers in between, to eat along with the sauce and rice just make it a superb dish~

chok Dee Thai (12)

Since we have clear soup base, as for fish we head for their signature spicy steam fish. All of us just love the soup base, spicy enough yet sour after that. Colleen again keep drinking the soup non stop.

chok Dee Thai (13)

Another dish highly recommended by Tatt is Claypot Prawn with Glass Noodles @ RM45.00. I would personally recommend this too.

chok Dee Thai (14)

Mango Sticky Rice

chok Dee Thai (15)

Thap Thim Krop @ RM4

Overall of this restaurant certainly this Thai Restaurant stood out better in taste and more towards Thai on sour and spiciness. If you are craving for nice Thai food, no doubt that I would recommend this restaurant, just be prepare to pay a bit more as I would say, compare to KL , just cant be compared.

This year, I guess some couple would be happy and some couples would not be happy as Valentine’s Day this year falls on the first day of Chinese New Year. I would say it as double happiness but to most couple they would most probably be at their each individual family each. To me, every day is also a Valentine’s Day and sure we can bring forward the celebration couples of days earlier.

But there in Malaysia there are many franchises in the market but you can only see one by CPK is to maintain their best quality to ensure customer satisfaction that originates from the states. Thus, with their originality which their head chef often check in, California Pizza Kitchen as prepare a special menu for most of the couples to celebrate this wonderful event by introducing the special menu.

California Kitchen

This restaurant had always been my favorite restaurant with its nice ambiance over look the KLCC water fountain, and sure its good place for me to catch up with my good friend over a great dinner and a long relaxing conversation.

California Kitchen (2)

This place is usually packed with lunch and dinner crowd. If you are looking for a good spot by the window, it is advisable to go there early.

California Kitchen (3)

With the friendly host, we ordered our drinks that looks very good in the menu. ‘Strawberry Banana’, the taste of the banana did not over power the strawberry, yet it is very freshing to drink in this hot weather. RM12.50

California Kitchen (4)

I just love my ‘Mango Strawberry Colada’. The taste it was blended so well, that I keep sucking on it till I had brain freeze, not too sweet yet its something that I prefer. RM 12.50

California Kitchen (5)

Kick off with the very first dish in the menu. ‘Lettuce Wraps with Chicken and Shrimps’ When it was served, honestly I look real plain like the normal restaurant fried, but I have underestimate this dish. Perfectly fried with ‘wok hei’ filled with scallop, shrimp, water chestnut with a bit of crispy noodle is something that I enjoy. RM26

California Kitchen (6)

Then I was taught to eat it with the lettuce and wrap with it. It taste alot better with it.

California Kitchen (7)

I guess heavy meal had make me loves salad, as when they serve ‘Miso Salad’ (with grilled chicken Full – RM 22, Half – RM19, add grilled shrimps – RM14) my eyes was starring at the whole greenery plate, looks plain but tempting to me.

The saled is very fresh that top with Miso Dressing is my favourite among the others. Not too strong of miso saltiness that just makes me eating more than 2 plates.

California Kitchen (8)

If you are someone who loves some meat on your salad then ‘Chinese Chicken Salad’ (Full RM 23, Half RM 20) Soft Chicken Meat breast that top ontop with sweet and sour dressing is good to start off with by giving you more appetite.

California Kitchen (9)

‘Thai Crunsh Salad’ (Full – RM 29, Half – RM 26) that added on with peanut dressing do taste abit like Gado-Gado(indonesian food) but in American style. Love the peanut sauce that blend in well with the fresh salad.

California Kitchen (10)

‘Garlic Noodles’ with mild in taste, something light which is not too oily yet the flavour is just right. I would say its hard to cook to maitain all the mild flavours in it. (Add Chicken RM 29, Add Shrimp RM36, With Chicken and Shrimp RM39)

California Kitchen (11)

Surprise me not with ‘Kung Pao Spaghetti’ (add chicken RM29, Add Shrimp RM 36, With Chicken and Shrimp RM39) never thought that it could taste so good in spaghetti, springy spaghetti with a bit of spiciness added with fresh juicy prawns as I just loves this the most. Then only realize that this one of the best seller in the restaurant too.

California Kitchen (12)

When normally go for pizza I would request Tabasco but in CPK they do have another special sauce that goes on very well with the pizza which is Cholula Hot Sauce.

California Kitchen (13)

‘Peking Duck Pizza’ RM 33
Pan roasted duck breast, Mozzarella cheese, soy-glazed Shitake mushrooms, crispy wontons, silvered leek and ginger Hoisin Sauce.

California Kitchen (14)

Loves the crispy edge that been baked in the firewood oven had made the pizza taste much better but as I always like their thin crisp add on with the Chululo sauce, its just hard to resist.. Some people might find it weird as Peking Duck on Pizza?

California Kitchen (15)

As the meal coming to an ends, I tried on their Cocktails with their very own signature ‘CPK Tropical Tea’ RM18.
Dark Rum, Fresh Lemonade, splash of mango juice and fresh brew ice tea

California Kitchen (16)

California Kitchen (17)

‘Electric Lemonade’ RM 20
Vodka, Fresh lemonade and a splash of Blue Curacao

California Kitchen (18)

At CPK, their desert is hard to resist. With the quality that they added in, I do not mind to pay for the price and also just got to know that their desert is purely imported from the states, that is why they are abit pricey.

California Kitchen (19)

‘Red Velvet Cake’ is something hard to find in the market, I mean with the originality of it. If you are a big fan of the cake, then this is one of the place to hunt for it. RM 22

California Kitchen (20)

One of my favourite which introduce by Lyssa. ‘Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae’. Loves the thick chocolate base brownie top with a scoop of ice-cream and hot fudge sauce is hard for most girl to resist, if they do not plan to look at their weighing machine for the next few days. (its a bit sweet though but share it with 2 person its just perfect) RM19

California Kitchen (22)

‘Tiramisu’ in CPK had added into one of my favourite list. Abit of alcohol base with strong coffee flavour and very well layered soft base that once put into your mouth the aroma will burst into flavours and melt. Just as I expected. RM22

California Kitchen (23)

‘Chocolate Banana Cake’ is something new to me. Chocolate topping had added the extra kick in it yet it was not too sweet but with the soft spongy cake base.. you just imagine the taste. RM20
