Philips Smart Kitchen Cooking Workshop

I have always wanted to add something new for my blog besides traveling which is cooking stuff.. Alright, for traveling post it had been back log pretty bad and shall be updating soon. I love cooking and used to cook alot while I when I was studying overseas. Since back, I have cook much lesser besides my great Maggie Mee meal for dinner. I guess I was lucky to be invited to this event which is something that is new for me and first of its kind too which is Philips Smart Kitchen Cooking Workshop. When I got this invitation, of course my reply would be YES. Something I have always looking forward too or maybe I watch too much Master Chef to have one to be completed as food blogger. Well, another task to put on a tick. Yay.

It was early Saturday morning and was given the kitchen address which is in Menara Axis in PJ. Not only that, we were told to bring some condiments, plates and stuff as there will be a food styling competition among other contestants in the class. This got me even excited as a night early I went to scout for what kind of stuff I can buy to decorate it. Sad to say, I find a lot of wastage and I end up empty handed to the event. 😀

philip (1)

Upon me entering the room, we were greeting with a few tables and all the ingredients of cooking dish is being prepared and many Philips Kicthen items were being placed on the table.

philip (2)

On that day, we were told that we are going to cook a few dishes and we have less than 2 hours to do that, and I was like already @-@, not sure how to cook that as the dishes for the day to cook are Nasi Briyani Gam Johor, Kuzi Ayam, Kacang Hijau Dessert and Coconut Fudge Slice. 4 Items in total, and of course the rest of us also panic including Cheng Yi himself. kekek.

philip (3)

In Philips Smart Kitchen Cooking Workshop, of course we get a chance to play with their gadgets which is The Philips Airfryer, , The Philips Soya Bean Maker, and Philips Pressure Cooker.

philip (4)

All of us getting ready at our station and of course I am delighted to be chosen same group with Cheng Yi, as many of us know he is a great cook and baker.

philip (5)

Right before we start, we were greeted by the PR company themselves and of course our celebrity host Marina Mustapha, Celebrity Chef from Astro Awani.

IMG_5485-001

Then she told us, don worry, everything is very easy only. Just sitr and mix then you are ready to eat within 20-30 minutes. We were like haaa. . .Not only that, her bubble and funny character had made the whole session a great start already.

philip (7)

Here we go, cooking on our first dish and follow step by step instruction by Chef Mariana. Cheng Yi is so serious and make it even more simple to cook as he cut so fast and dump everything into Philips Pressure Cooker.

philip (8)

Oh yah, we are cooking off with Nasi Briyani Gam Johor for first dish.

philip (9)

Anna also having fun as she is stationing herself to cook next dish.

philip (10)

After we have add in all our ingredient for first dish, Chef came by to spot check on us are we in the right track or not, she can even smells the aroma of it and its really good to go.

philip (11)

This is how it looks like and I really did not know that nasi Briyani is actually so simple to cook.

philip (12)

Right after that we just press start and let it pressure cook for 20 minutes then biryani is ready and can be eaten. We were like whoa!!!!! so fast? its something very unbelievable for us.

philip (13)

First item done within less than 10 minutes and we are already preparing to cook second dish which is Kuzi Ayam.

philip (14)

Its another dish very easy too cook too as all the ingredient were prepared and just add on only with the instructions given.

philip (15)

Add everything in and some spices to make it more aromatic.

philip (16)

To make it less meaty, add on some cut carrots and tomato too. . .

philip (17)

a

philip (18)

and finally add on the sauce and little oil to be prepare to go pressure cook!

philip (19)

before it went to cook, it already smells so nice and we cant wait to taste it after that.

philip (20)

While we get rid of  2 items and let the magic Philips Smart Kitchen pressure cooker do its magic, we move on to prepare the next 2 dessert in the list.

philip (21)

Next device we will be playing is The Philips Soya Bean Maker and I really thought that its only meant to do Soya Bean only. For this third station we are doing  kacang hijau dessert. The whole process is as easy as cooking instant noodle less than 3 minutes.

philip (22)

Prepare all the ingredient as usual then pour everything into the mixer and press the “Five Grain” mode, and press START. Wahlahhhh ..  After 25 minutes, green bean dessert is done. ITs really as easy as kid learning ABC. Not only that, as this devices have other functions that you can prepare other items as well.

philip (23)

This is what happens when you have all the smart kitchen equipment at home. That makes you have ample of time to do other stuff while cooking your meals and this is how Cheng Yi and Anna spend their time.

philip (24)

After waiting for 30 minutes, yap, we prepare all those dishes less than 30 minutes and both of them still have time to play on their phone, imagine how simple is that. Then the time is right we need to release the pressured cooker steam out. Becarefull when you release it as do not direct put your face above it. You might get burn yourself. The pressure release is quite loud and let it be till its soften. Then you are able to open the cover and check on our dish.

philip (25)

When chef came by to check on our nasi Briyani Gam, we got a praise from her and that really enlighten us up as I must say it really smells good and now we cant wait to taste it.

philip (26)

It looks really plain now at the moment but the frangrant from pandan leaves and spices have added on makes us eager to try it on.

philip (27)

Last but not least to prepare the last item we are using the Philips Airfryer and this really caught me by surprise. As I always knew that airfryer is to fried items without using oil or little and never know that this machine can actually BAKE!

philip (28)

a

philip (29)

We were so lucky that Chef keep coming to our table and making it like her main cooking counter that attracted the rest of the bloggers to come over.

philip (30)

JENG JENG JEnggggg!!! this is our final product and ready to be serve for you to eat. IT definitely look delicious and honestly it  taste awesome!! I have never really tasted the original one before but our cooking of Nasi biryani surely beats a lot of stalls out there. (sorry la, not to praise ourselves but it is really that good.) its also because of Chef special family receipt gravy to be added on.

philip (31)

Now it taste good, and the finale stage is we have to do food presentation to compete with the rest as the the winner will walk away with great prizes.

philip (32)

Drive by the motivation to win, we docorate it to be slightly modern with a little presentation of some spices being used to showcase that’s one of the ingredient being added on.

philip (33)

Our Coconut Fudge Slice comes out with Valentine balloon inspired idea.

philip (34)

and Kacang hijau Dessert is more like a little sampan to kick sail all the way ..

philip (35)

From all of us  . .:D

philip (36)

Of course we must camwhore a lot!

philip (37)

Our final food presentation with apron being the table cloth . . hehe~

philip (38)

Well, the winner was not us and runner up is Sidney’s team ..

philip (39)

and the winner is . ..

philip (40)

won by 3 leng lui’s. Who say pretty girls cant cook (from left Amanda, Sara – jewelpie.comSamantha – eatzybitzy.com – one of my fav cute bento food design)  –  They are a clear winner in food presentation and we are impress too. Nevertheless, the other 2 teams also did pretty good and find that ours are very way behind . .

AT the end of the workshop, Philip Smart Kitchen items do really impress me. If I get a chance to own a nice kitchen, Philip Smart Pressure cooker will be a must get item for me. It is really a great cooking workshop for me and its my first time to do this. I am sooooo looking forward for next one already as really learn a lot, not only that all of us did had a lot of fun~

philip (41)

I would like to thank Philip Malaysia for extending the invites to me and give the rest of us this Philip Soymilk maker as consolation to us~

I was on my way driving back and oh hell, forgot to ask the number of my friend, where she just came back from Melbourne and was at Ipoh. Totally forgot about that. Then dropping by at this Ipoh town where every one been talking about the Ipoh Nga Choi Kai at Restaurant Onn Kee. Came here for the 3rd time but the other stall did not open so try up this stall. No Choice. Either this or that. So it is this.

ippoh (1)

onn kee (1)

Trying out at restaurant Ong Kee. It was around 6pm and the tables was nearly fully occupied. This shows how good the business are but of course cannot compare with Murni @ SS 2 or Steven’s Corner @ OUG / Jln Genting Klang. They are crazee. Occupied the whole street.

onn kee (2)

onn kee (3)

Not only that. They are quite well known for their chicken feet too.

ippoh (2)

As some of them order chicken skin with some spare part like chicken gizzard, none of the people on my table eat it besides me. Smooth chicken skin with soy sauce just make it simple and nice to chew.

ippoh (3)

To be in this town and eat chicken rice, their fatty juicy tauge (bean sprout) is not to be miss, and why is their tauge is thick and juicy. Well, I was being told by my friend that they grow in natural mineral water flowing from moutain. That is why the tauge here is fat, juicy and crunchy.

ippoh (4)

One of my favourite in this stall is their pork ball and fish ball. Something nice to chew and dip onto their chicken meat sauce.

ippoh (5)

Find that Onn Kee ‘Ngah Choi Kai’ a.k.a ‘Tauge Ayam’ taste much better than Lou Wong. Simply because of the method that they cook it differently. On my personal opinion i think that the chicken texture here is soft tender and juicy and of course what stood out is their sesame and soy sauce base make them more outstanding. This is because I had lunch on Lou Wong had dinner here. That is how I manage to taste on the difference even though I came here many times.

ippoh (6)

This is the Koay Teow Soup’ that to be eat with the dish. It is either this or rice. Usually all the people that eat here will take Koay Teow but honestly, after you finishing the whole bowl, a little tip. Prepare a bottle of mineral water after that. You will be very thristy with their secret weapon in there. You really need it. That is why with their secret weapon the food will definitely taste nice no matter what. (This was my tip on 2009) 😀

Looking at the way how I blog last time its funny~ kekekeke

This new edit post is a blend of my 2009 writing style and 2012. Spot the difference~ I find that overall, I like Onn Kee more also just realize that I have not blog about Lou Wong before.

Bountiful Beef Ribs – Roma Rack @ RM53.90 / Full Slab @ RM78.90

Served along with two entrees, the juicy beef ribs that are glazed in Tony Roma’s original barbecue sauce and its not too dry. If you are keen to explore further, there are 4 bottle of sauces available to pair for your likings..

tR (6)

Welcoming their latest new item into the menu is Lamb Ribs – Roma Rack @ RM49.90/ Full – RM 78.90.

tR (7)

The taste of lamb is awesome that is well marinated, and grill to perfection that the meat just breaks easily and fats that comes along is quite even. Just that some of the ribs have more fats and overall, this dish is done pretty good with special sauce that the chef have created that make its another great dish to be hunt in the menu.

Usually when I am back Penang, a week before I will bug my friend to bring me nice places to eat or their latest discover, (sounds like I am a foreigner or outstation guest). Restaurant Hock Chuan Heong is one of the place that they usually will pop by for lunch is this traditional Hokkien dishes in Macallum Street here.(I used to stay here for 7 years, didnt know such shop existed.)

Oyster (1)

For those who are not familiar around the area, it would be tricky to locate it as its hidden behind a row of shop house that Pos Office Malaysia would be the landmark.

Oyster (2)

This place its famous for its authentic Hokkien dishes especially on their Oyster series. Its super pack during lunch time and it is advisable to do early lunch.

Oyster (3)

All the dish serve up pretty fast and this is what happen when you have 2 girls very hungry and cant wait for me to complete taking the picture first by snapping some of it first.. 😀

Oyster (4)

One of the dishes that must have is their classic Fried Oyster (Oh chien) . In most of the version that we have is either crispy or starchy and back to traditional its starchy. Fried to aromatic and dipping with their special chili sauce that makes it taste even better.

Oyster (5)

I cannot remember when is the last time I had this dish, that it was too long ago, that it used to be one of my grandma’s favorite dish. Found back the authenticity place for it, Oh Mee (Oyster Noodle) comes with generous ingredients and the gravy is slightly mild and find that noodle is over cook that make it too soft. Overall its not bad that many old people will sure love this taste.

Oyster (6)

This is Tau Kua Suan Na dish is fried and cooked with lots of leeks, added with little 5 spices powder to bring up the taste a little more. Gravy is nice and pour it onto rice, is good~

If you are looking for some authentic food then this is one of the place to hunt for. One of the set back of this location is limitation of Parking and best to park around Post Office area and walk towards behind it, or residential around that area.

Remark: The owner is a quite lansi (arrogant)

Plan B had received a huge buzz over blogging for quite some time when they first started, cuz of their unique concept that they have. Modern New York chic concept that had gain many diners heart that is cosy, nice interior that made them stood out from many of other cafe outlet. Then I try out another of their concept or I would call a slight changes of their concept from Plan B which is Journal by Plan B at Publika. Many people say good things about this outlet on their food. I try out their brunch turns out to be good too.

plan b (1)

with one of their latest outlet, Plan B at Paradigm Mall that located below Star bucks is one of the latest addition to the mall or expansion of their cafe.

plan b (2)

Check out their interior design as this section is outside. . .chilling  .. .

Lets check out their menu . ..

plan b (9)

plan b (10)

Latte @

plan b (11)

Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti Carbonara @ one of the more oustanding dishes compare to the rest we have although its near tasteless, with soft shell crab quite oily. .

plan b (12)

This soup is very normal, nothing special as it taste like alot MSG in there and its very salty . . .

plan b (13)

Cheese Burger

plan b (14)

It had won our heart when we first saw the presentation with melted cheese on top of the patty. Nothing special, yet sligltly salty . .

plan b (15)

Signature of the night which is Lamb Pie, over baked that the crust is hard as the colour itself already mention it, lamb in it is overcook and the best of all, its way too salty.

This is the first time we never finish our food yet Marcus was way too hungry, he tried to finish it just left a few bites and gave up. We ended went down to the lower ground to hunt for snacks. 😀

One thing I understand which is different mall have different market as this outlet we think that its a let down or the crowd for Plan B just love salty flavour or it was the chef that had overdoze it. Anyway, with the price that we are paying, we can try other food. 🙂

Hopefully they improve on that.

Some of my followers you would have been realise that recently my blog is field with some advertorials. One of the reason is I learn something from this book by Alan Tan. At this moment, Premium bloggers surely can generate good income for them, newbie like me, I was lucky to know some new friends and they have assisted me. ThereforeI would like to share along a book to make your track even faster if you are in this industry. Let guide you back how I started.

Blogging sphere now 2012 and the beginning era of 2003 when all the senior blogger start blogging, it is a different scene now. I started to pick up the trend of blogging at year 2005 whereby I see many bloggers write about many interesting personal life stories and I ended up starting 1 too at 2005. At that time only 3 post I gave up. One of the reason is that, I find blogging lame and its weird to tell every one what you are doing. 3 years later which is 2008 I pick up blogging again and decided to focus writing on food as I just love food a lot. At that time I just came down to KL and constantly ask new colleague for nice places to eat. Then I started to jump back into blogs again as I find blogging reviewer is more accurate than those in newspaper or magazine, even though they are not professional. Again food taste bud is very subjective. My intention is to help and promote food, even though it is bad is to educate people not to order those few dishes.

As year 2012 now, the trend of blogging had evolved too throughout the years whereby you hear some bloggers are earning quite big bucks over by blogging, some went full time and even new term called celebrity blogger!. I used to follow KYspeaks, Kennysia, Cheeserland, Xiaxue as I regard them as premium bloggers and also the way the write on their blog. Then I started to have the thoughts of how to make money like them?

I learn many ways in the beginning and read in forums how. I have learn many internet terms during the process and further understand what people by mentioning beginning or pioneer is always the hardest as there are no one to guide.

As bloggers are mushrooming over the country, there are new book that will definitely help out along on junior bloggers by Make Money Online by Blogging by Alan Tan. Its an interesting book, that helping me to make me set back to path again on what I have forgotten, and one thing I dislike is many people often think that blogging is very easy. On surface, everything seems easy and when you learn the mechanics of it, it is not so easy afterall..

I must say  it’s a great book for new bloggers to go after, as it teach all the necessary basic on why, how and growing your blog. With the book guideline it is easy to be on track. Its basic things that you must know that I would rate it as Blogging 101. . :D. It is easy, simple and no layman term to bring you thru.

I also did not know about this term until one PR company told me about it few months back. In this book also guide you thru top 4 plugins that you must have, SEO, and many more. Along with many other tips like, article marketing, promotion and traffic generation, social bookmarking and many more. Got a few more tips with this book . .

Besides that, I never thought that I would blog for 3 years. Yes, now my blog is 3 years old and I never thought that I would have do it this far. Blogging this far is not easy as I blog 5 days a week unless I went off for a trip and also, being interview was set in my target in food blogging and Alan Tan had made my dream come true by giving me an opportunity of the online interview.

Blogging is never easy task as we have to edit pictures, do content write up, attend event as it takes up alot of efford to maintain one and also persistent. This book certainly make your life much easier and can be purchase in any bookshop. I got mine for RM 39.90.

Love to purchase one of the book? click here –  http://bloggingsutra.com/

In my 3 years blogging I have met many new friends and fans, hope to see all of you~ Thank you for supporting and dropping by.
