Duck Rice

Back many years ago when I first step down to KL and stayed at my auntie’s place around this area, one of the first 2 things she expose to me was hand made pan mee (at that time I wasn’t a fan of hand made version) and this Loong Foong Duck Rice which is highly recommended by my cousins or known as one of their favorite duck place. At that time, to get a duck over here, we have to come as early as 6pm to avoid huge massive dinner crowd and also not to be disappointed when the duck is sold out.

It was not until recently, I came back visit this place again and crossing finger that they still have duck as I reach pretty late, about 8pm whereby they usually sold out.

long fong (2.0)

and guess what, I am lucky that, it is the last duck and I got half myself for 2 person. Duck price here is very decent too.

long fong (2.1)

Most of the people here come for the seafood restaurant and duck is part of their dish, as for us, we came here purely for the duck only. I guess I would try out their seafood restaurant too as its always this pack!

long fong (2.3)

After so many years since I last tried, the famous duck rice still live at its expectation that their quality is still the same.

Duck meat is soft, tender and juicy and skin is still quite good with its brown yellowish colour. There is a sauce that serve along, and add that in, as it makes it more aromatic with little salty end. I add that into my rice too as they only serve plain rice. Besides that, their homemade chili sauce goes well too if you would want to have light sour spicy end. Could be one of the best Duck rice in pj.

This is one of my favourite Duck Rice place that I would recommend. Do reach no latest by 7.30pm to avoid any dissapointment as I do know their duck sell off pretty fast.

Recommended!

If you are always in a hurry or need to take away something simple and nice yet cheap, Chicken Rice is always top in the list but with Sum Lam Fatt Chicken and Duck Rice had made its name around the neighbourhood is one of the popular place to hunt for when think of Chicken Rice.

Lam Fatt

If you were to go during lunch hours, you are expecting a que in this shop.

Lam Fatt (2)

and guess what, its only 1pm and all the chickens are gone while we are waiting for the guy to replanish it.

Lam Fatt (3)

I just love the ‘Chap Chai Soup’ which is spicy with dry chili yet sour with the sour vegetable and cook it hours with duck meat and bone. I just finish this bowl of soup. RM4

Lam Fatt (4)

The chicken taste good, juicy that had been soak with the soy and a bit of sesame sauce, and the ‘Siew Yuk’ nothing to boost about~ RM6 for 2 person.

Surely, I have no complain about this place as it is cheap yet the service is fast.

My dad like to ta pau from this shop if he did not go down town.

I have always been to this area to hunt for my favorite duck rice. Never knew that, there is another hidden piece of gem inside this area. I was invited by Wilson along with others to try out the food here. After searching in google map it was the area that I am familiar with but I got lost looking for this shop. It is hidden at a street behind the main road which I turn into the small alley.

This would be the first chinese restaurant that I came across that serve Halal food as on that time, there are quite a number of malay dine in the restaurant too during Hari Raya.

I was there early, and took some pictures and found out that this shop do serve durian desert’s. Immediately ‘tinggg’ in my mind that it’s a thing must try. I am durian lover. Anything that had durian in it, I am going for it.

If you are a desert hunter, do not miss this shop too which offer variety of deserts.

If you crave for durian pan cakes, then you can look forward to ta pau, back. Eat it song song at home.

As always I will take the picture of the outlook of the shop. Then the lady that dine in there was one of the customer was so rude asking me don take don take and juling me. Never care on it.

I got excited looking at the menu, as tempted by the food picture illustration.

The very first dish that we got serve directly gives me a great impression as it serve one of my favorite meat, ostrich and it is called ‘Cape Ostrich Koey Teow’ charge at RM9. The meat was fried perfectly good in medium well that still manage to taste the sweet, soft and tender of the meat. The koey teow is fried evenly well with wok hei that blend the whole aroma a great taste.

When this dish was serve, my eyes nearly pop out as it was a huge serving, like serving for 10 people. Then the very next thing that caught my attention was, the owner mention that it was cook with durian. That excites me that for the very first time, there is a dish was actually cook with durian. I find the taste is very interesting, a bit spicy yet sour and the fish meat is soft yet soak well with the taste of the gravy yet my tongue had detected a very mild taste of durian which comes to my liking. ‘Tempoyak Ikan Temerloh Patin’ (Regular RM 40, Medium RM 80, Large RM 120).

Although I am name as taufulou but in Chinese restaurant is always hard to resist taufu. ‘Deep fried bean curd with Homemade Sauce’ (RM 6). Frying the outer layer of the skin to harden it a bit and on your first poke onto the taufu, it shake like you poke onto a jelly, that shows the sign of the softness and when put into your mouth it just taste like as pure as taufufa. The mild sour homemade sauce that pour upon had make the taufu outstanding.

Again, another dish that serve out, my eyes nearly pop out again with 2 big big prawns was putting on top of the mee. ‘Sang Har Noodle’ (RM 9 for 100 grams). I quickly took the picture of it and just cant wait to try out the mee. The temptation is there with such a nice gravy that shower upon on it. The prawns meat is hard and juicy, showing the sign of fresh prawns, the sang har mee I like it very much that the cook the gravy reasonable thick and with an egg that fried along with the prawns just makes the whole noodle taste sweet.

As I know this is one of their signature item and I am surely recommending this.

‘Sri Karak Curry Fish Head’ (Small:RM 25 Large:RM 49) is something that I would recommend too. I love the curry with the spiciness level is there, yet it is quite thick for the gravy(something that I prefer) that eat it along with rice is such a great combination. With the fish head that they are cooking in it, it is quite meaty.

‘Sri Karak Curry Laksa Mee’ RM 6.50 with the price tag stick on it, is something that you would not want to complain, with 2 prawns and some seafood, with the soup base quite thick yet not too santanese and I love my portion adding in a lot of chili.

‘House Special Claypot Chicken’ (Small:RM 12 Large:RM 24). I was quite full when this dish was serve but with the smell flying around making me wanted to try it out. The taste was awesome, I just love the sauce that they are using and with the chicken marinated cook along with the clapot is just as good as it looks.

‘Stir Fried Salted Vegetable and Bitter Gourd’ (Small: RM 8 Large:RM 15). Not a big fan of bitter gourd, but this stir fried had make me eat more than I expected just loving the very mild taste of bitter gourd that did not overpower the taste of the chili and comes to my liking.

After this heavy heavy food meal, definitely I still have room for deserts. What we were told, most of the deserts are involving durians. Then I was like good good.

I felt so privilege when this great desert was serve as it was done by the owner himself for us as it was just out from the oven. He mention that he seldom sells this is because it involves a lot of process and not many people ordering it.

I have to say that this would be one of the best desert as the top crust is abit crispy hard, yet when your spoon penetrate the top layer its very soft in the inside like a bread that soak with a lil of water that is warm. It taste abit like sponge cake in it, amazingly the taste of durian flavor there is strong as I like but adding in a bit of whipped cream just pull up the kickness of it. Something unique that I have tried. Recommended (if the owner is doing it) and I cannot remember the name.

‘Durian Pancake’ didn’t get much of my attention cuz is mild in taste as I prefer it in stronger taste version. Maybe I had taste better one before.

‘Durian ABC’ RM 6 that reminds me the great time for my food hunting when I was in Melaka for this desert. A normal ice kacang that top with a scoop of durian ice cream with ‘atapchi’ and mint leave is something nice in taste. The ice blended is soft and the flavor that added in wasn’t too sweet. Just nice.

‘Durian Tarts’ with solid crust at the side and the strong durian taste as the top layer of the tarts is something that I am expecting, quite a nice flavorful tart.

I got very curious over ‘Durian Bomb’ as the name and I find it like custard bun when you eat tim sum just that this durian bomb have crispy outer layer. If you can just put the whole thing inside your month and eat it, the very next thing that you will realize is that your mouth will be bomb with the durian flavor. . something that I would recommend too as this is also one of the top seller item in the shop.

By the session ends, I was full like a stuff pig with big portion and alot of desert at the end. Can kidnap me and be roasted in rich season flavor. Kekek.

These are the owner of the Karak Restaurant. Very friendly host as they never stop smiling.

pssttt: that is the guy that did the special durian desert.

Yatz was having a great time savoring his durian deserts.

Of course a great meal without a great group of friends would not be satisfying. These people would be, Wingz, Wilson and Racheal, Ken, Timothy and Yatz.

I have thank to Wilson for tagging me along for such a great meal. Definitely this place is in my recommendation list, it’s a hidden jewel in the area.

Within a week, the K&K and her gang introduce me to eat Duck rice again. As what they said it is much nicer that then 1 in Taman Desa. Then wokayyy..just go lah, with lots of people following then reach that area. It is at Cheras nearby UCSI college there as I recognize the place. It was lucky that the parking space was just nice for the 3 of the cars.

It was early when we reach the shop, was like around 12pm and already half full. The people ta pau’ing, the queue is building up.

We manage to get a big table and guess what. Within 15 minutes after we were seated, the ppl just flock into the kopitiam and turn it into like pasar with suddenly so many ppl and so noisy.

If you feel that, duck is not enough for you, the side order area looks tempting. With the don know what and what as I know how to point and eat.

The duck was gone fast.

The person is working hard by chopping and chopping non stop, busy working during lunch time. Wonder if he can use his hand to chop a person to make he/she faint instantly.

Ahhhh….here is my favourite. Never eat duck rice without this ‘Chai Boey ’ I know how to call it in Hokkien only. Sorry haa..cantonese a bit poor. The taste is veli good ah..the soup is sour to the taste, abit spicy with the dry chili, the sour veggie is cook to perfection. Ngam ngam soft. A good soup to start off with, open up appetite.
Here comes the ‘Char Siew’. By looking at it I was like mouth watering. When got serve onto the table, I was the first 1 to tax the char siew. The meat is soft, with the fats thin layer and layer makes it so good but don really like the char siew sauce.
The ‘Roast Pork’ is very nice also. The curst is crispy, the pork is soft and bite already feel juicy abit. Not so dry. Again, the layer of fats is just good.

Lastly of course the main dish had arrive. The ‘Duck’. I must say that the duck meat here taste much better than the 1 in Taman Desa. The meat is tender and soft yet you can bite the roast taste out of it. The duck aroma is there, the skin is good till I was like walaping it non stop.

Over all the food here is totally good. As I get to dine for free again, was treated by one friend and the total bill came around RM145 as I know and was share by around 9 people. All the food is serve 2 each. I feel that the price is reasonable. . Highly Recommended

Excited about Friday as always cuz it is WEEKEND~ so my new partner in crime the double K which is Kebbie and Karen a.k.a Kalan(a gigantic eater yet slim like hell)…ahhaha…They know that I love food so they brought me here and Karen was waiting for her friend to come. I gilar sial diver who ownes a coffee shop Kopitiam Kuan Yew
So here we are, at Taman Desa where I did not know got nice food to eat but its their territory so just go la..never ask much. So while waiting for Kalan friend so arleady hungry and start eating at the road side food. The ‘Chee Cheong Fun’. Too hungry till I forgot to capture the pic of it. It is nice, and cheap. No Complain at all.
Food rating 7.5/10 , Good ah..Not Bad~

Then they directly hantam the stall beside.

The ‘Tau Fu Far’. I tell you, the tau fu far is just so smooth like babies backside. So soft and nice. The white suger syrup is with ginger. So good for those ppl who got infected by fake N1H1. Ginger is good for those got flu. RM1.50

That guy was 20 minutes late. So head to our very original place we wanted to go. Its Sing Kee Kitchen which they said its famous for Duck Rice.

This are the temptation duck hanging around. Waiting to be slain and walap by us.
I thought they were only selling duck rice but to my surprise also this are their side order.
and here……
and here……….
and the very first order that came was the ‘Curry Chicken’. The spiciness lvl is there. Not too hot yet just nice and not to santanese. Goes perfectly well with rice and the chicken is soft and potato is ngam ngam cook.
Then the rice is good. The K&K donate their rice to me. Half each from them so that makes me makan 2 bowl of rice and from just now the chee cheong fun and tau fu far havent digest they pour everything in…Chi Sin..me not monster~
Here comes the dish of the day. The ‘Char Siew and Siew Yuk’. The char siew I would not prefer that much is it is quite meaty and not too much fats so makes it like eating pork , the sauce that goes along with it is not really nice, not the kind that I prefer and of course the Siew yuk would be better, the crust of the tip is crispy and the fats is just nice.
The main dish of the day. ‘Whole Duck’ is serve on the table. The duck skin is roast to okayness and the duck meat would not be so hard nor soft. The sauce that goes along on the duck so so but still prefer the 1 I ate in Penang.
This is another side order, which is I don really how to call this. But if you mix the sauce with curry chicken, and mix it with rice…sure do you can just walap the whole bowl of rice without any problem. The pork meat is soft, nicely cook to perfection.
Lastly that guy order ‘Caramel Pudding’ for Kalan saying that its one of the signature of the shop. Then we tried that it is so so only. The taste of caramel is not strong like onli 25% and the pudding is soft but yet I feel taste a bit weird. I do not really eat pudding but was just giving a try. Not bad I would say.
At the end of the meal I do not know what is the price of the meal cuz was paid by that Kopitiam owner. Thanks to you~ but what I was told is, a plate of normal duck rice cost aorund RM5.50-7.50 without any side dish.

Food rating 7.5/10 , Okay ah..Not Bad~
