Usually when I am back Penang, a week before I will bug my friend to bring me nice places to eat or their latest discover, (sounds like I am a foreigner or outstation guest). Restaurant Hock Chuan Heong is one of the place that they usually will pop by for lunch is this traditional Hokkien dishes in Macallum Street here.(I used to stay here for 7 years, didnt know such shop existed.)

Oyster (1)

For those who are not familiar around the area, it would be tricky to locate it as its hidden behind a row of shop house that Pos Office Malaysia would be the landmark.

Oyster (2)

This place its famous for its authentic Hokkien dishes especially on their Oyster series. Its super pack during lunch time and it is advisable to do early lunch.

Oyster (3)

All the dish serve up pretty fast and this is what happen when you have 2 girls very hungry and cant wait for me to complete taking the picture first by snapping some of it first.. ūüėÄ

Oyster (4)

One of the dishes that must have is their classic Fried Oyster (Oh chien) . In most of the version that we have is either crispy or starchy and back to traditional its starchy. Fried to aromatic and dipping with their special chili sauce that makes it taste even better.

Oyster (5)

I cannot remember when is the last time I had this dish, that it was too long ago, that it used to be one of my grandma’s¬†favorite¬†dish. Found back the authenticity place for it, Oh Mee (Oyster Noodle) comes with generous ingredients and the gravy is slightly mild and find that noodle is over cook that make it too soft. Overall its not bad that many old people will sure love this taste.

Oyster (6)

This is Tau Kua Suan Na dish is fried and cooked with lots of leeks, added with little 5 spices powder to bring up the taste a little more. Gravy is nice and pour it onto rice, is good~

If you are looking for some authentic food then this is one of the place to hunt for. One of the set back of this location is limitation of Parking and best to park around Post Office area and walk towards behind it, or residential around that area.

Remark: The owner is a quite lansi (arrogant)

How many of you actually dine before Mexican food as not to mention those commercialize  ones, as there is one that serve near authentic Mexician food which is Frontera Sol of Mexico that smack right in the heart of Jaya One. One of the few outlets that hard to miss if you are around the area.

What is in the house today is their Christmas menu, as you might think its early but nope, its just about a month away where is just nice you start to offer Christmas menu.

Frontera (1)

Frontera (2)

Frontera (3)

its a place that normal pack with families and friend to come by to get their favorite dish.

For their Christmas menu, they are preparing the food to be as authentic as possible, that will differ in individual taste.

Frontera (4)

One of the thing that I sip non stop is this Watermelon Agua Fresca ‚Äď Non Alchohol drink, that had a bit of soda, sweet watermelon and mild lime taste as the end is just thirst quenching.

Frontera (8)

Next, head to the  most classic drink of all is this 1919 Sangria an Alcoholic drink origins from Spain and, different restaurant, pub and bar prepare this drink differently, what you taste here might not be the same as other outlet as they have their own recepi on creating it.

Frontera (5)

Traditional Tamales (Choice of chicken / Beef)

Frontera (6)

Find that this is the Bak Chang in Mexician version. Like sticky rice, that have lots of ingredient inside and the taste is quite different but rich in ingredient.

Frontera (7)

Roasted Butternut Squah Soup With Sage Pesto, as after I finish the whole plate, as I thought it was pumpkin soup and I am a bit suprise that its not. It is butternut, anyway, I still enjoy the soup.

Frontera (9)

Mesquite Smoked Turkey with Broccoli Florets Topped with Chili Con Queso

Frontera (10)

This is one of the main star for the night that, when ask, do you prefer fish or Turkey. Instantly 90% of them order turkey, as during Christmas period, we have been taught from small is that Christmas = Turkey (must have dish). Turkey meat was well marinated, soft and prefect pair with gravy and the best of all to pair along that you must not miss is the pinkish Cranberry Chipotle Relish (a bit sour sweet and very unique in taste, I sure do not mind to have more of that), pair along with sweet potato, yes its sweet potato not meatloaf.

Frontera (11)

Since every one opted for the Turkey, so I try out their Veracruz-style Fillet of Red Snapper with mexican rice & sonora vegetables. Usually, I do not take fish and its quite beyond my expectation that the fish is good, soft fish meat and the gravy is abit sour and you eat along with jalapeno which is not too spicy, that balance up. After effect will make your tongue a bit numb. ūüėÄ

Frontera (12)

Peach Tres Leches Cake

Frontera (13)

Key Lime Pie

Do not know where to head for our Christmas, then can try out some Mexician Food.

For people whole love homemade fish ball, Tang Pin Kitchen located in SS2 directly opposite Esso station had become one of my frequent place for dining. Also apologize that the name of dish is not complete cuz I lost the receipt. ¬†. ūüôā

Tang Pin (1)

I usually drop by here for lunch as its fast, simple and easy parking around the area as it is located at the edge of SS2 heading towards Seapark.

Tang Pin (2)

A simple modern kopitiam style that filled with marble tables and chairs. .

Tang Pin (3)

Tang Pin (4)

Price in here is consider cheap and with quality they served match the standard overall. . .

Tang Pin (5)

One of my¬†favorite¬†dish is this Mee Pok @ RM 6 a simple bowl of noodle that filled with mince pork and lots of lard on top of it. The noodle is thing and the texture is very different, with its a bit springy yet do not taste like koay teow or pan mee. That’s the unique of this noodle that I like it. I always love mine to add on with chili that is placed on the table and just mix it all together, the taste is whoola~ – Recommended

Tang Pin (6)

A side order that we order is ‘Bitter gourd¬†fish ball soup’, as I find that the¬†bitter gourd¬†taste is not pungent enough to my likings, but a few of my friend already said its quite strong and some don even drink it.

Tang Pin (7)

For a small bowl of porridge like this that cost around RM5-6 if I am not mistaken is simply got rip off. . . Taste wise, nothing to shout about.

Tang Pin (8)

for a value worth around RM7.50 I have no complain on this with the amount of ingredient they added on . .

Tang Pin (9)

Besides their simple menu that they are offering, their ‘Tong Sui’ is pretty recommended by me too. Among the tong sui I have come across, I quite like theirs as its flavourful and not expensive. Start off with this Soya Bean . . with more like homemade taste and I love my soya bean a bit thick in texture, and they add on with old ginger that makes it very warm after drink it.

Tang Pin (10)

Soya Bean with Tong Yuen that is my favourite of all. . .

Tang Pin (12)

At the base of it is filled with a layer of black sugar which I assume would be homemade as it is quite thick in texture and a bit sticky. . If you drink it directly without stiring it, it taste pale and after you stir the black sugar it turns very nice, and you can see mini slices of old ginger in it. Then ‘Tong Yuen’ is soft and the skin is not thick that filled with sesame fillings. – Recommended~

Tang Pin (11)

Gingko Fu Chuk Barley is another one that I like, that the barley was not over cook, ginko is soft enough and the fu chuck been boil till very soft and mashy type.

Overall, this is surely a great place to dine with their simple parking and the price and quality that they are offering and my fav of all is the Mee Pok and order a simple bowl of homemade fish ball to eat along ..

It was heavy rain that night, and it was hard to see even the car directly in front of me, chill and my stomach was growling and I was looking forward for the dinner later as the new menu came out with home cook food, it had been for months since I last tasted home cook and cant event remember how does it taste like as I only can remember what is my favorite dish that my mom can cook for me. House of Tang at Bangsar is one of the restaurant to hit onto.

[UPdate: no longer in operation since 2015]

Upon reaching the destination while I was looking for a spot and I got a highlight beam, on the parking spot trying to spot who was it? Trying hard to gaze at the number plate through the window under heavy downpour only realize it was Ken, as they cant get off the car without any umbrella.

After I park beside them, to my surprise, the staff from House of Tang brought 3 umbrellas for them on the opposite road to bring them into the restaurant; I have never thought that they do provide such services.

The restaurant certainly have the ambiance to host any of a family gathering with their concept build upon is to create home feel to ensure that if you cant enjoy at home, this is the place you feel warm and cozy with all your family members.

House of Tang holds firm that harmony and joy is the root and trunk for all happy families. Remembering our parents‚Äô toil and sacrifices to bring us up is the way to preserve that root. Honoring their efforts with achievements in life is the way to grow that trunk. How do we honor them if we were unhealthy? We deeply understand this and here in House of Tang, we are assertive to dismiss the use of any artificial flavoring and MSG. We also go light on salt and sauces, hoping to give our patrons the healthiest feasts ever, just like how mom cooked, only more extravagant as what you can expect in the ‚ÄėJoyous Dinner‚Äô
