Neo Tamarind has never been a stranger to me, as the place is pretty well know for its ambiance and food that many occasions I see my friend are there for dinner. Nevertheless, this round we are here for Cape Mentelle wines tasting & pairing. I am lucky to received my first direct wine pairing dinner invitations for this round.

wine (1)

The restaurant is located on the busy street of Jalan Sultan Ismail or next to a huge Merc showroom.

NEO Tamarind is best described as ‘the new zen’. Imaginative NEO Tamarind-cuisine the defies rules, borderless food designs will arouse your palate. Filled with statue, galactic bar with a chic & cosy luxe lounge for lazy weekend afternoons. A place that won many awards that bring you to another dimension.

wine (4)

as we arrive, we are being treated with first bottle of wine which turns out to be me and Cheng Yi’s preferred bottle from this wine range.

wine (5)

Before the dinner, we can enjoy the Blind wine tasting being prepare for us and I won my self a bottle of my favourite wine back –

Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2012

wine (14)

Upon arrival of many guest, I am honour to be in here with the rest famous blogger, KYspeaks, KampungboyCityGirl, Evelyn, Cheng Yi , & another blogger that I love to read when comes to wine & Whisky is Ei Ling (which I forgot to take pic with her)

wine (6)

A bit on Cape Mentelle as the winery takes its name from the nearby Cape, named by the French ‘Baudin Expedition’ which charted the coast of Western Australia in 1801. They named the Cape after two notable French scientists, geographer Edmund and his cartographer brother Francois-Simon Mentelle, who lived in Paris in the early 1700’s.

In the early years David Hohnen experimented with grape varieties including shiraz, cabernet, zinfandel, sauvignon blanc and semillon. Many of these original plantings are the source of the distinctive wines that have come to characterise Cape Mentelle. The winery’s flagship Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced primarily from the original Wallcliffe Vineyard.

In 1983 Cape Mentelle won the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Award for the best one year old dry red wine, and cemented its position as a premium wine maker with another win in 1984. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is now widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading cabernets.

Another great fact finding that I discover is Cloudy Bay, from New Zealand is actually another favourite wine that I enjoy from that vineyard. Cloudy Bay won world recognition with its Sauvignon Blanc. Cape Mentelle meanwhile developed a stylish Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend that was to become another benchmark of the Margaret River region, and a Chardonnay sourced from vineyards outside the estate.

Today Cape Mentelle, as part of Estates & Wines (owned by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), continues to build on its solid foundations. There are more than 150 hectares under vine and the winery crushes about 1,700 tonnes of fruit from the estate vineyards and contract-grown fruit sourced from within the region.

wine (26)

Best of all, we are dining together with Ashley Wood to enlighten us with his knowledge on the wine that we will be tasting tonight. He is  born and raised in Western Australia, growing up in the Swan Valley and the Perth foothills. He is passionate about the region and in particular the Margaret River terroir. Ash firmly believes that the superb quality of the fruit grown in Margaret River is a unique reflection of this. Ashley travelled extensively overseas and during this time visits to Bordeaux and Alsace fuelled an interest in grape growing. On his return home he enrolled to study for a Bachelor of Viticulture at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales. Ash then spent 12 years working in vineyards in Margaret River before joining the team at Cape Mentelle just in time for the 2007 harvest.

wine (15)

First glass pouring on the table starts off with Chardonnay 2011, on first sip it is filled with fresh youthful palate with flavours of lime, pear and grapefruit, as further drinking it, it leads to lemony and pear flavours

Pairing with first dish, Steam Cod with coconut sauce it sounds weird to me but after a few bite and with a sip of wine, it turns out to be paired very well, with refreshing end. Interesting.

wine (16)

wine (19)

Carbernet Merlot 2010 first smells with tobacco and plum skins. . Find it is medium to full bodied palate with soft and elegant tannins ends with fresh fruit characters. Find it easy to drink for a red.

pairs with

Roasted Chicken served with Garlic Bulb, Whipped Potato, Apple Sauce with Chicken Jus

wine (21)

The roasted chicken is done pretty good, not too dry yet moist and eating along with  the grilled garlic bulb was a bomb and the aftertaste aroma of its is fragrant. On the night itself, the garlic bulb make a highlight on my table as every one is enjoying it.

wine (22)

Next pairing is Roasted Duck Breast served with Red Cabbage Puree & Mustard Sauce and Shiraz 2011

Duck is rather disappointing as its abit overdone and chewy. . Shiraz is always pretty easy for me to recognise with its mild peppery or spices taste as I am not really a fan of this range. However it has light sweet end with spicy finishing.

wine (27)

Last to pair with meat is Grilled Beef Tenderloin served with Eryngii Mushroom, Scallion Oil & Beef Jus with

Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

wine (28)

Although the meat looks red and overall I enjoy the wine more than the food, maybe is because I had good steak for past weekend.

wine (29)

Among the red, I like Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 cuz its full bodied and dry end. The taste is strong with mild oak influence. It is best paired with red meat.

wine (30)

For dessert, we were serve Green Tea Creme Brulee

wine (31)

wine (32)

My favourite wine from this vineyard for white Souvignon Blanc 2012 so easy to drink with light fruity end and can continue drinking non stop, along by recommending Cabernet Sauvignon 2009. I love my red to have dry end as I love dry wine.

BYLF2355

Its a great night indeed and fun to learn so many things about wine. Seated along with Cheng Yi and KampungboyCitygirl and Chong (Brand Ambassador for MHD)

With the latest technology now, the world seems getting smaller everyday latest edition of smart phone into our society, with much people now owning I-phone or Blackberry seems like a hit, and previously I owe a dumb phone nokia 8900 which the most important to me, which is can call and sms.

pic1

Even though after I had change to BB Curve, till today I still consider it a dumb phone that I never fully utilize it. It is dumb enough that I can use a few functions that can connect to the world.

twitter_logo

That I can use Twitter to stalk all what my friends are doing and what they are gossiping around… at times it is funny that when I got nothing to do, I just connect to my twitter any where any time, where Digi has full coverage in most of the area that I went.

facebook

Second I consider it as a dumb phone as it is just simply easy for me that every time I find something interesting, or went for a food review and would want to share with all my friends, I just on the camera and snap, just seconds away to get connected and blast to all my friends in facebook and twitter.

Grasshopper

Chance to share what I am doing at events with all my friends. . . .

Besides that only thing that I can do is to make sure can I call out and also sms. This BB curve that I am holding now is tied up with Digi (click here for further infobut the rates are simply the best and cheaper, with their RM68 Digi Smart Plan, had just made me and my friends closer, that I used it daily even when I am in the toilet, in events (which is very boring) stuck in the jam that can read all the funny comments and the best thing is when on Saturday night went to club can check how is the traffic for the night till my friend brand me, a weather and traffic report guy. . . Even got scolded at times for posting saliva dripping food to lure them in middle of no where. . . . Digi Smart Plan had gave me a chance fully explore on my phone but :

Well I find that I am dumb enough with my phone but I am smart enough to choose the right plan~ as I am looking forward to party with Digi. .

To hunt for nice food is always not easy, especially with home cook and traditional style, it was not until recently we discover a place that cook good Teow Chew and Hakka food which is located at SS14, a place which I went pretty often for the nasi lemak during my college days.

This restaurant is more than 20 years old which first the family run its business on southern Johore and until few years back one of the siblings decided to open one branch in the urban city area that run similar menu. Their signature dish to look for is more on soup and porridge.

To be honest, I did not know what is St.Patrick’s day until 2 years ago when I started to read blog, and all I know it Guinness is associated with this event which comes to a conclusion to me that St.Patrick’s Day = Guinness. Then only I get to know what the meaning is all about. It is a annual holiday that is widely celebrated on the 17th of March as to name after the Saint Patrick which is also known as Catholic holiday and had become a big celebration in Ireland after 1600s. Now with this annual event had become a global signature and widely celebrated around the globe.

Then back to my study life when I enjoy my very first encounter with Guinness was thought by a good friend of mine Mervyn and I still remember that time Mervyn and Mike keep telling me, lets go and enjoy BLACK JUICE. I was puzzle and thinking what the hell is Black Juice, not until we reach Crown Casino in Melbourne where there are happy hours going on, they order 3 pint for me. I was like Stim, how to finish some it taste awful. From there, they teach me how to enjoy this great drink till today, Guinness is still one of the drink top in my list. Seriously, a drink that toast to them for teaching me and also TO ARTHUR!

Santini

And to celebrate this great event, we had our very little outing in this restaurant.

Santini (9)

Most of the meal prepared that night are specially for this occasion and either, season with stout, mix with it or any you can think of.

Santini (8)

It might look plain on this chicken strips but the hidden taste is it had been season with stout for couple of hours and deep fried. Dipping it with the mayonise is finger licking good.

Santini (10)

Santini (11)

Santini (12)

Sausage is very juicy and meaty and the catch is the dipping sauce, that had mix with some stout and blend in well.

Santini (13)

the meat in it had cook with stout too.

After read a few post on history as this restaurant at Singapore which alot people recommending not to be miss. . As for Malaysians now, need not have to travel so far to enjoy such a beer that Craft Brews is a Non-Halal Restaurant is the latest addtion to our very local F & B market that all of us can enjoy their special brew beers by locating themselves one of the prime location in Mutiara Damansara.

Craft Brew

Craft Brew (2)

Love their, dim lighting, modern contemporary style yet setting off a soft music on the background had put this place into my list for gathering and hang outs also love their waiter and waitress outfit.

Craft Brew (3)

One of the special beer brew from Singapore that serve on tab along with Monster Green Lager and English Ale.

Craft Brew (4)

At this bar area, you will see pipes pressure gauges and levers around the bar area design with international microbrewery look.

Craft Brew (5)

Craft Brew (6)

Yet we get a warm welcome with a box and a letter that contains our names and a few small packets teaching us how to brew our very own beer.

Craft Brew (7)

Wide range of drinks to select from and to be enjoy.

Craft Brew (8)

When I walked to this area, I got very surprise to see a beer in GREEN COLOUR? This would be my very first encounter and that is the beer that I must try first. The beer starts with (from right to left) Czech Pilsner, English Ale, Monster Green Lagger, Weizen (wheat beer).
Ended up my favourite of the night was Czech Pilsner and Monster Green Lager. Love the smoothness and the barley and wheat boil brew of the taste individually.

Craft Brew (9)

Everyone hit on the food which looks finger licking good.

Craft Brew (10)

Craft Brew (11)

‘Honey Mustard Ribs’ as I used to hate mustard years ago and now I have learn how to enjoy the taste of it. With a bit of honey sweetness that had been grill till the honey had soak into the ribs yet mustard seasoning which is a bit sour just combines both of the flavor very well as I am swallowing my saliva while looking at this pic recalling the taste.

Craft Brew (12)

Craft Brew (13)

Follow by ‘Mex-Tex Ribs’, juicy and succulent yet soft from the inside out with the seasoning that grill on the grill er is something we just do not want to miss out. I clean the ribs solid clean till the bone got dry after left a while on the plate.

Craft Brew (14)

After some chatting, eating and drinking, we are on to our Beer lesson. How do we enjoy our beer to the best.

Craft Brew (15)

All of us looking so serious and paying attention to our class.

Craft Brew (16)

One of the lesson is how do you enjoy the ‘Monster Green Lager‘ the best taste of it, is to eat along with a piece of bacon, that the saltiness that add in a layer on your tongue yet you drink with he smoothness, aromatic beer that wash away with the saltiness on the tongue add in extra kick on it. Its like red wine with steaks.
It was a great experience with Craft Brews with great food and beers. Surely I would return for their food as the price range is kinda reasonable and of course all credits to Hsu Jen for the special invites.

Last round when I went back to Penang, I manage to meet up with Chloe, one my chi mui’s lol..that’s what she claim me as. Had been quite long since I last met her, ermmm, about 12-14 months back. Usually we could not find a suitable time to meet up, either she is tied up with work or I am busy with my own stuff.

As we walk around Queensbay Mall which I felt it’s a waste of energy and decided to head for a drink instead of walking around like zombie then she told me she is craving for pancakes from this shop. Then I kacau her, harr..’yau jor’ ah you..then she scold me. Lol…

I have seen a lot of blogger blog about this place and this is my first encounter in this restaurant. What makes me not to go was the pricing for a pancakes. Since she is craving for it, and haven’t meet up with her so long I sure do not mind.

You can sit to choose inside the shop or the outdoor style infront of the shop. We chose to sit around this area.

Not a big fan of coffee but I sure do love ‘Ice Mocha’. To my big dissapointment, this would be rated as the far most geli drink that I ever come accross. I do not know what coffee bean they use, but its just bad even the kopi from the kopitiam taste even much better. With the pricing of RM10.50 its just wouldnt worth any peny.
While was looking in the menu, this sure tempt us to order with its name itself and also the photo illustration on the menu. When it came out, we were impress as seen in the menu. ‘Treasure Box’ thought of what is the burried tresure in it. RM 17

The pancake is soft and pan fried with butter taste, covered with strawberry, almond, ice cream and whipped cream with a bit of chocolate syrup and honey pour upon. I just enjoy my desert as much as Chloe did.

I sure do not mind to come to this shop once in a blue blue moon. Then she told that she is going to encounter next stage of her life and when she told me that I was so happy for her and invited me to her wedding which will be next year.
