Chef Yama that had been train at U.S in a few Japanese restaurant over past 30 years and now with its new concept in New York known as Japanese Fusion Sushi, that he had gain his fame there and now flying back to Malaysia to open this outlet to share the latest trend to our Malaysian.

[update: no longer in operation]

I did ask him before, or not only me, why come back to Malaysia since you are doing so well in overseas. He answered, because he is a Malaysians and still his home ground. He is proud to bring back this concept. Chef Yama specialties are sauces. He always mention would love the diners to enjoy same ingredient but different taste.

Open its door for less than a month, and he had started to gain many regular customer. With his unique sauce combination that none of us had try before that make all customer a wow on his creation. Yama & J offers Buffet for all of us at very affordable price.

You will be rather suprise of what Chef Yama had gain its fame in New York and are now on the wall for you to read.

yama (4)

There are only limited space dining indoor and highly advisable to book your reservation first before you go over especially during lunch.

yama (6)

sitting outdoor during lunch will definitely not a pleasant experience. At night would be better.

Food in here is great and it will give you another dimension of what to taste in sushi. The only thing is you might love it or don so like it as in the chef special menu, its much drench with sauce, there is where the sushi/sashimi boat come in handy, to tone down the taste. My preference for those are:

Waikiki Roll, Volcano Roll, Art of Maki to kick start off with . .
If you are more adventure with your sushi, then I would highly recommend this place to try out.

On the 6th Day which is another shopping day request by the Girls, so we cancel all our sightseeing and spend our time mostly in the prime area for malls and the first stop for the day was MBK mall that we spend 5 hours there, from 10am – 3pm.. So walk around as everyone is very hungry and and saw this irresistible deal. Eat all you Can at ShabuShi Restaurant.

Shabu shi (1)

Had a quick breakfast in the morning and as all of them shop till forgot the time and stomach start growling, all of us start to hunt for food till we come over to this floor on the exit side we saw this sign – EAT all you CAn buffet.. every one say..go eat this one, damm hungry.. cow also can eat.. So we went in, and was request to use the front entrance. . .

Shabu shi (2)

Shabushi is a Restaurant offering Japanese Shabu shabu and Sushi for customers to enjoy at a very cheap rate I would say.

When we reach the front entrance, we were like OMG..so many ppl..siau eh~ and took our number, was told to wait 1 hour to come back, so we went to continue shopping and came back an hour after that.

Shabu shi (3)

Its a crowd mixture and one of the main thing that attracted so many people was the price of the buffet which is quite cheap. If I am not mistaken it is about 250 bhat nett per pax (if I remember it correctly) with given 90min/120 mins to dine.

Shabu shi (4)

We storm into the place and quickly place all our things on the table and start to attack on the food as given such a short time frame.

Shabu shi (5)

They have sushi bar counter seating or group seating with conveyor belt offering all fresh steamboat ingredients.

Shabu shi (8)

Many types of drinks available. . .they also have desert corner which I forgot to took a picture of it. .

Shabu shi (6)_resize

These 2 cha boh attack on sushi counter very fast, with offering of lots of sushi and even salmon fish head also available.

Shabu shi (9)

Sushi counter

Shabu shi (10)

fried counter

Shabu shi (11)

Lok lok corner

Shabu shi (12)

At the conveyor belt. . .offering lots of fresh meat, marinated, slice lamb, pork and a few more. .

Shabu shi (13)

Shabu shi (14)

Our soup was clear soup and spicy that taste pretty good though

Shabu shi (15)

Tatt and Steven was taking care of our dining table and by the time we went back to our table, it is already full of ingredients waiting to be pour in.

Shabu shi (16)

Shabu shi (17)

This piece of meat is good with marinated sauce and corn in it. .

Shabu shi (18)

This is how pack our table is. . . The best part is on the conveyor belt, the chef was standing there and we were the last table on the corner and whenever he put new ingredients, we took all of it and till a certain time, he got piss off cuz other customer could not enjoy it and he went to the front to put all the new ingredient…kekekek~

Shabu shi (19)

This is how we eat our steamboat with Malaysian Culture and every one that walk pass by our table, look at us like dinosaur, as our eating steamboat habit is definately different compare to the rest of the people there.

Then after dining, Goft only told us that this is one of a famous Japanese steamboat buffet in the mall that attracted alot people go. If got chance when you are in Bangkok and would want to try something different, try out this Shabushi, value worth and the ingredients are all fresh and good! – REcommended!!

we had a very satisfying lunch that last us till late dinner. 😀

One thing is that you cannot compare the pricing and quality to Malaysia restaurant cuz they enjoy lesser taxes and that’s how Thailand industry grow so well ..

There are quite a number of buffet steamboat restaurant in the market but how many of them are actually value for money and nice? Well, during CNY week, we were lazy to cook ourselves and there is a change of plan on changing restaurant as most of them decided to give it a try on this Umami Steamboat buffet with all you can eat that located right at Sunway Mentari.

A restaurant that will cater many people that they have actually taken up about 2 shoplot that offer lots of space.

Umiya (1)

Their business is quite good as when we left all the tables outside were taken out.

Umiya (2)

For me I still prefer to have my steamboat inside with some air condition if not I will be drench in sweat.

Umiya (3)

An advantage of this outlet is that they do offer bbq section with chicken wings. . .

Umiya (4)

BBQ Seafood like crab, sting ray, satay, prawns and squid.

Umiya (5)

Umiya (6)

Umiya (7)

On the inside for you to choose to hammer inside your soup base quite a selection of fish ball. . .

Umiya (8)

noodles and the usual item that we have.

Umiya (9)

Umiya (10)

Seafood lovers this section certainly is your choice with many types of seafood for you to choose from.

Umiya (11)

Umiya (12)

cold platter

Umiya (13)

Some mini buffet pan fried section . .

Umiya (14)

Fried stuff. . .

Umiya (15)

Best of all also you get to have free flow of slice meat which is my favorite

Umiya (16)

There are 5 soup base for you to choose from . . .as was told by one of the staff that Fish Head soup is one of the preferred by customer.

Umiya (17)

We tried on the Tom Yam Soup and Umami Chicken soup. Both of the soup turns out to be better than alot of places that we have tried before. . .

Umiya (18)

As for desert they do have jelly and Ice Cream to offer you  . .

Overall, with about total RM30 per head I find it quite okay on pricing and quality. If you ask me to choose, I would opted for other choices but if you plan to have a great steamboat range, Umami can be one of the choice in my list as I have tried others which is much worst that I don bother even to blog about it.

On the up side, this outlet is pork free that I see a few malay families dine in here.

I am keen to try out another outlet in Wangsa Maju as I was told by a friend that they over a very good range and cheap too. Will arrange to go luuu . . .

I might have been selfish in sharing food places at times or another way to say it, I have forgotten to blog about it till I look thru my old folder. If you are craving for Japanese food yet you are a bit tight in pocket? well, there is this place I went so often with my ex-colleague and friends, is this Nihon Kai, Japanese Restaurant located at Old Klang Road which is a hidden gem in the area.

For this post, you might think I am being lazy, reason is  I have lost this receipt and its a combine pictures of many occasions I went there.

nikon kai (1)

The shop is very hidden but yet they enjoy brisk business for lunch and dinner. One of the reason they are always full is their generous portion of serving at economic price.

nikon kai (2)

There are 2 levels in the shop that mostly cater for 2 – 4 pax and if you have bigger group you will be seated upstairs. .

nikon kai (3)
