If you happen to drive by Raja Uda which is another part of Penang at Mainland that is famous for alot of hawker food too. . . One of the stalls that I often hear from my cousins or friends from around that area is a few restaurant and stalls that must not miss to eat. One stall in particularly that run by the whole family itself that enjoy brisk business for very long time. For last round I went back to Penang I particularly force my friends to go over to this area to dine with me .. ehehe

ham chee peng (1)

As I remember a stall that is famous for the Yew Char Kuih and Ham Chi Peng is nearby a mini food court only my friend told me that they have move to a new location which is bigger and brighter.

Hardly you will miss this stall as its usually flock with alot of people and nearby the famous temple along Jalan Raja Uda too or famous  Fish Head Steamboat next too it.

ham chee peng (2)

All their items are made fresh and serve pippin hot from the wok after being deep fried.

ham chee peng (3)

ham chee peng (4)

Many of the siblings are helping out from making process and some of them taking care of the deep fried process.

ham chee peng (5)

Price wise still did not change much starting from RM0.70 at the most of RM0.20 increase as compare to 2 – 3 years ago. .  I love their Horse Leg, Ham Chi Peng, Yew Char Kuih as I ate it this round and forgot to take pictures. Apologize!

If you happen to be in the area, this is one of the stall that you must not miss. Its a recommended stall by me .. 😀

As food lover, I know its quite hard for us to hunt for good gourmet food at one area. We did come accross one section was promoted along social media that get to know Food Bites is being held at Jaya One is also a collaboration of Jaya One with Asianage Holdings to make this Gourmet food in Street style available. After carefully curated on the vendors to feature, finally it was these unique 9 vendors that got the opportunity to be feature in this section as Food Bites is also part of Jaya One Weekend  Market that happens every quarter for year 2012.

Food Bites (1)

As when comes into food topic, everyone is just excited as seeing a cotton candy like a 3 year old kid. To make this place a wonderful playground for alot of vendors to shine Jaya One act as a creative space for food lovers, as this is a place for the chefs, bakers and baristas to share their culinary in dishing out their specialties without need to have a high start up cost and yet taking care the customer’s wallet by charging them a reasonable price (RM5-RM20). It turns out to be a great food section as they are selling together with Non-Halal food together. Just a perfect combination ~

Food Bites (2)

Happy to see many familiar faces of food bloggers there of course no stranger like BangsarBabe, Evelyn, Me and Isaac, of course there are many more that I see.

Food Bites (3)

As selected blogger by BangsarBabe we were given some vouchers to try out on the food vendors as before that, me and Ken already patron half of the stores before getting it. kekekek~

Food Bites (4)

Food Bites section start along with the weekend market at 11am and the place was instantly flock with many hungry people as all the food were well decorated and it definitely looks tempting or you will felt regret if you do not have any of it.

Found out that most of the vendors do not own a cafe or a place to cook, as cooking is just their passion and some are home bakers as they take orders via introduction or website.

Food Bites (5)

One of my favourite that its hard to get nice brownies and more about if you are talking about alcohol brownies. YES, we are talking on ALCOHOL brownies.

Food Bites (6)

This is one of my favourite Ultra Fudge Brownies – Baileys Irish Cream & Walnuts @ RM 9 as the look itself already tempt me to buy it. A perfect first bite is like love at first side, that it is moist, soft and the alcohol mixture is just perfect that did not overpower the cocoa taste. Generous with ingredient as every bite also filled with walnuts!

As I told the ownner, if she could serve it with a scoop of ice cream along, that would be the most perfect in such humid weather.

Food Bites (7)

and tapau 3 pieces more for own savory.

Food Bites (8)

As after I return back from my studies oversea many donkey years ago, during my working time in the cafe, I was taught by an Italian on how to savior my Quiche as I hate the taste and texture at that time, as once I learn it, its a dish I enjoy very much and its hard to find really nice one in our country.

Food Bites (9)

then came across this colourfull many types of Quiche as this would be my first time so see an offering with my flavours.

Food Bites (10)

all just look tempting as it used to be and one bite, instantly I know this is what I have been looking for, soft that can taste along egg and cheeze taste with mild ingredient after taste on each of it.

Food Bites (11)

We were quite sad as we thought we can roam around and come back for this Quiche and mana tau, came back at 12.30pm it was the last piece and they were sold out! this shows how good their Quiche is! Damm!!! I want more, would love to seem them back again next round!

Food Bites (12)

As coffee lovers, I just love the name of this vendor, Espresso Lab. .  Sounds like some R&D coffee bean company. Which is not as the boss are being cheeky with the name to make it catchy, they are actually one of the bean provider. . .

Food Bites (13)

Food Bites (16)

The boss are just so friendly as the particularly the type of playful and get serious to business type. They ask me to try out their 2 signature drink that available for the day only which is Lady Gaga and Green Peace. Unique in taste and something new to me. 😀

Food Bites (17)

Along the stretch I also like this Panini bread spread as they do own a cafe in Bangsar called CRUMBS CAFE located in Lucky Garden. A place you could drop by to savior their lovely bread series!

Food Bites (18)

Food Bites (19)

Food Bites (28)

Ruby Montana Tart – RM10 a slice

Macerated strawberries and cream carpet a Sarawakian black pepper cookie tart base finish off with a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar upon order. One of the most unique tart that I have come across in taste and also must say one of the best too with the crust is baked to perfect and they used high grade strawberry to pair it along. Something that you need to try to understand as it might sound weird. Once you taste it, you would want the whole slice by yourself!

Food Bites (29)

next is the cup cake stall bake by this lovely girl with passion of creating unique flavours out at THE FAT BLOSSOM by Yun Ann which she got her aspiration from Melbourne, Australia.

Food Bites (30)

One of her unique creation is Earl Grey flavour as its not easy but she manage to get the taste right.

Food Bites (31)

Oh, if you are here, this is the stalls that many people would not miss cuz it was like an oven on the weather that day, as every one just rush and sardin pack this stall with one of the reason they offer very unique flavors for ice cream potong! POTONG is the name of their brand too . .

Food Bites (32)

Their Booze pop and which have beer flavour, wine is just outstanding and all of us were talking about it. The taste is strong and other normal flavours.

Food Bites (33)

Founders of POTONG Ivan, TeeReei and Victor are captivated by the simplistic idea of developing unique flavor concoctions. The trio only use the freshest, seasonal, natural ingredients that literally melt in your mouth. On this special occasion, these trendy artisan pop makers are bringing out the crowd hits to keep you cool. There are red bean, gula melaka, teh tarik, water melon fizz, Pina Colada, Strawberry Pepper and Choco-Nut.

Food Bites (34)

This is one of a busy stall too with its unique types of hotdog he is offering know by his own brand HAUTE DOGS. Guess what? Zainal have a day job as an engineer by profession and for his passion towards hotdog never stops him from creating his own version that infuse with East meet West too.

Food Bites (35)

This is the DAIKON DOG. It consist of a Teriyaki Glazed chicken sausage served with grated daikon (white carrot), bonito flakes and wasabi mayo. I just love the filling and the sauce, its a bit sad that the bread is a bit hard that it was suppose to be soft according to Bangsarbabe, as the guy prepared early and his first experience in serving such a big scale.

Food Bites (36)

These version of hot dogs just makes me going for more as I took out the bread and went for the filling. As the 3rd picture is Kimchi hot dog as when I saw it, serious? It taste good as it looks. . .

Food Bites (37)

as it proceed to lunch time, strong crowd just pouring into this section and every one just love the unique offering of the food at a very reasonable price.

Food Bites (38)

Frontera is another stall that offer Mexican delight that is well known for their Tacos and also their signature drink – Horny Margarita.

Food Bites (39)

At this last stall that we could not resist and die die also would want to try is this few friends Ryonn and Nick that came out with The TRANSPARENT APRON. These duo also call themself supper club which they serve a min of 4 up to 6 pax at any one time. Me and Ken are very keen to head to their home and sample their special menu for the day as they do not operate in a restaurant and only do live cooking at the home and serve you on the spot! INTERESTING!

Food Bites (40)

In their simple menu, they only offer 3 types of food BrB, Pork-Dog and Pork-Gy. . love the catchy name of their menu.

Food Bites (41)

See the stack of order they have as the are unable to cope with the sudden huge demand which they only cook in small scale as they took up the challenge today and kept us waiting for as long as 3 hours for their main signature item.

Food Bites (42)

They are doing their best to serve all of us and I would say good job to them!

Food Bites (43)

To keep our crave, we kick off with BRB @ RM5 – Be Right Back …. No no no ….. It is Deep Fried Breaded Balls of Bacon Bits & risotto rice served with Napolitana sauce

Food Bites (44)

Pork-Dog @ RM10

Fresh pork sausage on a bun topped with chili con carne and fresh white onion served with a side of chips

Pork-gy @ RM15 is the dish that makes us wait for 3 hours and if you ask me worth the wait? YES, certainly. . the texture of the pork is AWESOME, slowly braised to perfection ale cinnamon with root vegetable mash that nearly melts in your mouth,

Food Bites (45)

Definitely you guys in our hunting list for food as will will storm your house soon . .:D (Check out their FB Page – Transparent Apron)

Food Bites (46)

Bangkok trip is all about makan on my 5th day trip, after heavy dinner at one of good restaurant that Goft recommended which is Taling Pling at Central World then now we are hunting for one of the best desert around that area called Mango Tango that operated by Hong Kee according to Goft. On the way walking there, if it wasnt raining, there are night market directly opposite Central world heading to Siam square.

Mango Tango (1)

I find that the street market here sell clothing which is pretty nice as if we do not have time to shop alot in famous JJ Market (Chatuchak Market), here would be one of the good option too as you can bargain.

Mango Tango (2)

After about 5 minutes walk from Central World, here we are, as we reach our jaw drop as the place is so little and flock by so many people ready to hunt for places in the compact shop.

Mango Tango (3)

This place got famous with alot foreginers because it got feature in some international food guide in Hong Kong and Japan. There is where how they gain the popularity and branding.

Mango Tango (4)

Cannot deny that I love the concept of the shop that show’s purely they are selling desert and only desert that they are serving. They source the best mango in Thailand and its pluck fresh. A simple decoration of the outlet make it outstanding around the neighourhood area as it is very hard for you to miss the shop that is well light up.

Mango Tango (6)

Mango Tango (7)

Mango Tango (8)

I guess these are their best seller therefore put at the counter

Mango Tango (9)

We are amaze how fast this worker cut on the mango and look so pro .. . We were just drooling like a small kid looking at candy when me, Steven and Tatt saw the mango how yellowish and how sweet it is going to taste like. .

Mango Tango (5)

Annie always love to promote how  god the food is and this round with menu, I guess she will be a good food ambassor. Too bad I was not allow to post her eating pose. Saliva will drop just by seeing her tam chiak face (the way she eat). The cute menu also in Mango shape and the have selected menu for you to choose from and we have let the desicion for Goft again to go for our menu.

Mango Tango (10)

Getting ready with my spoon to attack on the desert yet the funny thing is that I have heard An Apple a day keeps the doc away and now, its A Mango a Day keeps the Doc away . .kekeke I sure do not mind by having lots of sweet aromatic mango. . .

As we were super full from dinner, and now its very hard for us to resist to say NO to deserts after looking on how the way they do it and die die also must try quite few. Our initial plan was order 2-3 to share and the end up result every one having one portion. 😀

Mango Tango (11)

Mango Sticky rice is just so opposite version of what we have in Malaysia and the servings there as I meant, that in Malaysia our sticky rice is a huge chink of it with a few slices of mango and in Mango Tango is a huge big ass mango with small scoop of sticky rice. Its served warm, soft and very aromatic with their superb coconut milk as we love it so much on the taste and pair with the smooth sweet mango is just perfect.

Mango Tango (12)

Mango Tango (13)

Do not know what to choose get Mango Tango Signature dessert and consists of a half nicely cut mango in cubes, with a side of mango pudding topped with whipped cream and a ball of mango sorbet. A perfect combination to try all version in their outlet.

Mango Tango (14)

Mango Delight comes with a mixture of fruits base, kiwi, mango, honeydew, aloe verra, watermelon and some other ingredient, and all the fruits are fresh and sweet.

Mango Tango (15)

Mango Smothie is super good, very smooth, easy to drink yet the mango is so aromatic like drinking pure mango juice.

Mango Tango (16)

Mango Tango (17)

all of us having great time with our desert and this is one of Goft’s fav drink .

Mango Tango (18)

One thing I regreted that I did not buy enough is their Sensational Mango Tango Desert – Preserved Fruits. One of the best I have eaten so far as they sell it in lose pack or economy pack that comes in a pack of 3 boxes. As for  now, whenver my friend go to Bangkok, I will try to ask them tapau this back for me .. Hehehe .. Once you eat it, its addictive even my parents finish this whole pack on the night itself.

Dry, not too sweet, as its like eating pure mango in another version. Recommended to get at least 2 pack.

Mango Tango (19)

Here we are, our desert hunter and Collen always busy with her food, that is how tam chiak she is whenever taking pictures. 😀

As for last say, any order in the menu, surely will satisfy your crave on desert as all also pretty good!

If you do go Bangkok in the area of famous shopping districk Central World that area, please do not miss this super good yet delicious Mango desert, as you would not regret even though its a bit hard to find as you have to walk thru some alley turn right turn left.

Highly Recommended if you love or do not like desert.!!!!

They have 4 branch in Bangkok check out their website for other branches location : www.mymangotango.com

I just wish  Malaysia have such a good desert shop. The set back is our mango is so exp and import in even worst. I guess I shall keep my mango crave till next holiday . . 🙁

It was recently that, I have tried something new when I was back to Penang for holiday. Then my friend insist that I must try out this, and I did came to this place 2 times the stall did not open until the third time, it was there. Well, I have try out Satay Celup in Melaka, Lok Lok in Penang Island and for the first time, I went over to the mainland Bukit Mertajam area to hunt for food then I have come across, Lok lok in Rojak Style (that filled with prawn paste – heh kor) that if famous among the neighbourhood. My friend called this Chiam-Chiam Rojak.

This is the little stall that park right at the road side, nearby opposite a school and I am surprise to see this little stall flock with many people and it was drizzling still many people stand by it to eat.

Choices available are more like fruits, young mango, mengkuang, jambu air, cucumber and a few more.

The trick is, choose your favorite stick of fruits then just stuff the whole stick into this thick filled with lots of peanut rojak sauce that separate into two section, spicy and non spicy.

This is how it looks like after dipping into the sauce and I find that spicy is challenging, that first few sticks you do not feel the spiciness, but once it kicks in, your mouth will go numb a bit, yet still I keep dipping into the spicy sauce.

As the effect of it, of course your fruits will be fully coated with the rojak sauce, of course it will drip onto the floor like bird shit, what you have to do is. . . ..

spread your leg wide and shove your head out a bit like girrafe, so that it wont drip onto your shoe or shirt.

This is how good the business is, and many people stop by to make a take away of the sauce also.

If you are looking for something new to eat, as for me, this is something new that I was shown by my friend. Price is pretty cheap.

Remark: the stall doesnt have a fixed operation hours, so it depends on your luck!

Last weekend, we went down for a short weekend to Melaka and the hotel we stay is superb, Philea Resort (which will blog bout it soon) and while in the resort we skip out for a while before dinner time to hunt for some light food. Jason introduce us this place which is flock by alot people around the town area and also as far travelers from out station. Original Klebang Coconut Shake.

After reaching there, we were a bit curious what is so good about this drink which so many people are queuing up. Then we join the crowd also to see what is happening.

Jason told us that this place started off with just a very small stall and after his coverage in paper and blog, their business had a sudden boom which makes what it is today.

According to him, they are the first to do coconut shake and they have their own style then ask us to judge ourselves what is so good about it.

Starting of with ice pack in a blender, then a few scoops of ice cream, then coconut water then a mini cup of sugar syrup.

Blend it n crush it with with coconut meat that place at the bottom . . .

Then pour into this tube machine. . .

pour it out cup by cup and it looks something like milk shake .. .

You can have it either Coconut Shake PlainRM 1.80

Or Coconut Shake SpecialRM2.30 with additional scoop of ice cream.

The taste of it is quite thick taste like milk shake at first and the more we sip the more normal it taste like and the ice did not crush properly and ice is a bit harsh, actually there is nothing to shout about something simple and I still prefer my Penang style Coconut shake (click here) with a plate of mee sotong which is a RECOMMENDED PLACE if you visit Penang.

So if judge it yourself lahhhh.. and be prepare to wait for 20-30 minutes in line for this cup of drink as we felt its not worth the time to wait.

Straits Quay is one of the latest attraction in Penang that located itself at Tanjung Tokong which can be access thru Island Plaza as it had just open for around 2 months and I believe it is going soon to be a popular place among all the locals and outstations. This place is build by the sea area that going to host alot of Restaurant and Bars to operate it. To me, this place is definately will boost Penang F&B industry to another level with its classy English look. Alot of Penang bloggers had flock and blogged about this place, now including me too. Hang out at Berlin’s Bier Houz .

berlin (1)

A huge center area that in the future can host many events here and with seriously high ceilings that enable it to be more cooling.

berlin (2)

I guess in this alley, if cafe’s and some fashion boutique open in this area, gonna make it more like foreign shopping feel.

berlin (3)

When I walked in, I just got to know that, they have indoor shopping that only have 2 levels which more like other countries are doing.

berlin (4)

For night view, I am certainly impress with the feel of it as in the future, in this middle area, all those nice and exclusive yatch are going to dock here, and at the last 6 levels are residential area that have its own style which is quite unique in interior.

berlin (5)

At the side walk, it gives me the feeling more like a modern type of Gurney with its huge sidewalk and of course there are a few Bar already operating around this area like Finnegans Bar and not to be miss this German Bar.

berlin (6)

Berlin’s Bier Houz is a German & European Bistro is one of the few bar is currently operating in the area.

berlin (7)

A very cosy feel with wooden table, floor and dim lights on the ceiling with old style building painting at the wall do stir the ambiance up.

berlin (8)

berlin (9)

If you are looking for nice German Draft Beer to hunt for, I would say this is one of the bar to consider as they offer quite a range.

berlin (10)

With at least 5 on draft to offer for German Beer Range, with the likes of Erdinger Weissbier, Erdinger Weissbier Dark, Erdinger Dunkel and a few more.

berlin (11)

berlin (12)

This is the pricing of their beer yet it is still cheaper than the one’s offering in KL. They do have happy hour rate and if you are looking for all night long, Sunday is their Happy Hour all day long. Hoegarden is available too but in bottle.

berlin (13)

This is our 1 pint of beer and I brought Esther here as she was in Penang for a few days. ..  We are happy with our Happy Hour Deal that comes to around RM26 for 1 pint. For those who love lighter beer and more aromatic and a bit sweet in taste, I would suggest to go after Erdinger more like our Tiger as in light in taste and those who love a bit more bitter and stronger taste, go for Weissbier more like Carlsberg.

Non Happy Hour is around RM30 per pint.

berlin (14)

If you dont like to be seated in there and prefer some where outside to enjoy the sea breeze if it is windy day, then consider outside especially with smokers. I spend 3 nights over here and it is always near full house.

I guess this is one of the new place that I will stick on when I am back to Penang and going to be one of my recommended place for a bar to hang out at the moment. Food I have just not yet try. You guys try it out then share with all of us. 🙂
