When back to Penang usually, I always wanted to go back street food but my friend always end up bring me to this kind of places. When they told me to dinner is at Island Plaza, I thought they must be joking till they said I must try this Japanese Restaurant – Ido Ichi Japanese Cuisine. Who can really resist Japanese Food?

Well, Island Plaza used to be one of the hottest spot to hang out 15 years ago before Gurney Plaza was constructed. One of a major place that most teenagers to hang out at that time, with many prime brands hosted there. Now they have gone major upgrading work to make it another look and feel.

Edo Ichi (1)

I got to know thru a friend that Ido Ichi Japanese Cuisine is actually under the group which Azuma Japanese Restaurant is also one of theirs. When I arrive, I am surprise by huge crowd and have to wait for 20 minutes for a table. Seldom will see this situation happen in Penang and its located inside Island Plaza, that makes me curious.

Edo Ichi (2)

They are operating 2-3 lots that make the dining area spacious with a few sections including sushi bar and close up area.

Edo Ichi (3)

Edo Ichi (4)

Price here are pretty decent and I compare to another of my favourite brand Sushi Tei in Gurney, its pretty much similiar

Edo Ichi (5)

Then we ordered quite a lot for 5 pax and started of with Salmon Sashimi. Finely cut and its very fresh! @ RM 28

Edo Ichi (6)

For rolls, I would say that they have created their own signature style compare to others and tried both their Una Cheeze Maki @ RM 35 & Shake Mayo Mentai Roll @ RM 30. Both are equally good as ingredient are pretty generous and I like how the cheeze flavour makes it more unique with their own light sauce.

Edo Ichi (7)

I order something new that my friend have yet try is Tenderloin Cappaccio @ RM 35. It was all gone after I snap the picture. Thin slice beef that cut to perfection, with shoyu sauce and mayonnaise with the fine cut that makes it nearly melt in mouth. Order another plate again.

Edo Ichi (8)

Volcano Roll is not the best I have come across as I have tried better ones before. Overall, the cheese and mixture of ingredient in it is quite not bad for a Penang version. @ RM 28

Edo Ichi (9)

This is the fellow who always wanted to maciam maciam places!

Edo Ichi (11)

Sukiyaki is pretty good too with the soup base quite salty as what I have learn, flavourfull that serve along with fine cut beef slice. It will be perfect during rainy season.  @ RM 30

Edo Ichi (12)

Yaki Gyuza @ RM 8 both item is nice to go along as Gyuza here won many places that I have tried, by pan fried the base perfectly to golden brown and ingredient in it a bit solid.

Edo Ichi (13)

Both Fried rice are equally good and I prefer more Scallop Fried Rice @ RM 12. Very fragrant with garlic with wok hei. We add extra garlic into our rice to make it extra kick. Seafood Fried Rice @ RM 12

Edo Ichi (14)

Edo Ichi (15)

By the time comes to this Avocado Guratan  we are all very stuff. Ended up I finish all this. If you love cheeze potato and some seafood this would be ideal for you.@ RM 18

Edo Ichi (16)

Kimuchi Ramen turns out to be pretty good, mild spicy and sour end with thin slice of pork in it. Ramen is slightly overcook and if they can make it al dante then would be perfect bowl of noodle. @ RM 18

At the end of the meal, it was a very satisfying dinner with great food. If you are looking for some nice Japanese Cuisine, this outlet certainly would be one of my recommendation.

A new outlet that had just pop out in the neigbourhood of Damansara Kim. Tug in a quiet area but it had start to gain its fame thru online platform. We got to know that KomPassion one of a NON-Halal Thai food, then it makes us even more eager to try it out. Then decided to head to that outlet and do menu attack again..

kompassion (1)

kompassion (2)

I love the interior of the outlet which is creatively set up, that is very simple yet look elegant, with zink atap roof, wooden platform chairs on the side with pillows and lights below  . .

kompassion (3)

Water paip s as the support frame of the lap. .

kompassion (4)

A group of us sitting there quietly browsing on the menu, then got slightly excited as they offer quite a range of food to choose from and many new items or signature to hunt for. Price are slightly more expensive . .

As usual, when we go in a group of food bloggers without any invites, the usual still we will be equip with our gear – lights and camera. As the food came, every one in the restaurant were very curious on what we are doing. Then only the owners drop by our table to introduce themselves as Desmond Wong and Tan Huat Jin (who are brothers-in-law). Even better to know that both of them actually  teamed up with Chef Nikom Uatthong to set up this restaurant.

How the name Kompassion came up is they know the chef have alot of passion in cooking hence by using his last 3 character of his name and combine with this and that is how the name being created.

kompassion (6)

We started off with starter. KomPassion Chicken Wings @ RM17.90 A very simple dish that well marinated with spices and I was saying, if order a beer would have been perfect.

kompassion (7)

Stir Fried Kai Lan @ RM15

kompassion (8)

First pork dish and we are all excited, as The Paneang Curry Pork Loin came first..

kompassion (9)

A bit dissapointed on the other end as for the price of RM 35 its a rather small portion. Curry is thick with a hint of basil taste after that. Its not bad to go along with rice.

kompassion (11)

If you prefer something light and more soupy gravy, Green Curry Crispy Pork is the one that you should go after. Filled with basil leave taste, slightly creamy curry gravy and the pork cook along can still taste the crisp of the skin.@ RM35

kompassion (10)

Tom Yum Fried Rice with Grilled SeafoodRM18.90 , is cook in a healthy way with multi-grain brown rice is used and the serving came with grilled squid rings, a medium-sized prawn, crabsticks and salmon fillet. At the price I find this is very reasonable and rice being fried to fragrant and the sauce pairs very well, with seafood is fresh.

kompassion (15)

If you travel to Thai often, then many of us would not miss pork leg rice, as its the same in Kompassion Pork Leg Rice, when we saw this in the menu, its a must order. Pork meat is soft and juicy with gravy and the chili sauce that pair along is mild spicy and sourish end taste.  @ RM25.90

kompassion (13)

One of my favorite which is under KomPassion Special, we ordered the Double Cooked Pork Belly and Soft Shell Crabs with Cucumber Salad @ RM65. The pork skin is awesome, that its crispy on every bite and the meat is tender. Unami sauce that shower into it that makes the taste even better. Soft Shell crab on the other end fried to perfection till crisp and top with ebiko to make it even more bitefull feeling. – Recommended!

kompassion (14)

Tom Yum Fish @ RM45 with a spicy level of 2 (choose from 1-3, 3 being the spiciest). For those who cant really like spicy then would advise to go for level one. As the spiciness doesnt kicks in immediately, will suddenly shot up and I down a glass of water instantly. Its challenging yet I would not mind to go for level 3. 😀 Fish slices that cook along is soft and fresh. – recommended!

kompassion (16)

Tako @ RM10 is one of the signature in the outlet as its better for you to pre-order first when you are ordering your meal. Smooth coconut milk texture on the top and pandan base makes it hard to resist and and Ice Cream with Jackfruit and Red Ruby @ RM10, I find it pretty average..

Cheese cake are complimentary for us to try (bottom left)

In the end our bill came into RM 382.50 for 6 pax. Slightly more expensive than normal dining restaurant but its pretty satisfying with the offering in the restaurant. Surely will come back again as there are a few dishes that I am looking to back for.

Remark: do note that this is a Fusion Thai restaurant as the taste might not be at your expectation as the taste had been tweak.

If you are looking for some nice Thai food, surely this would be my another recommended restaurant.

Sometimes, hunting nice food is when you look at some pictures that you like and you go for it. So often that I hear this modern Thai dining serve pretty good food is Fa Ying by Rama V. I get to know this place when I saw my friend insta it while they are enjoying their meal there. Then not long after that see them Insta again. Then it got me very curious about the place and food and its a recommended place by them.

Since my friends birthday is around the corner, therefore I suggest this nice restaurant for birthday dinner.

fa ying (1)

Get to know that t Fa Ying means “princess” in Thai and by that you would nod your head once you know that it is connected. That is how I feel I am connected when I first saw this place. 😀

fa ying (2)

At night this whole restaurant look pretty comfy with nice lighting and set up with bar in the middle of Fa Ying by Rama V.

fa ying (3)

Sitting outside at night without wind can be like in sauna . . .

fa ying (4)

fa ying (5)

fa ying (6)

fa ying (7)

Starting to love this place when I they have happy hour buy 1 free 1 all day long. AT times before movie will drop by for a drink.

fa ying (8)

Offering in this Fa Ying by Rama V seems pretty good as I have asked my friend the list what is the must have item and she recommended a few.

fa ying (9)

This is something new to me as Watermelon salad is something light and simple to start off with, sweet and burst with watermelon juices, light mint taste and goat cheeze is added to make the taste more kick. @ RM 12

fa ying (10)

In salad range, I was asked not to miss out their signature Pamelo Salad with Prawns @ RM16, mint leaves are added along, light herbs taste in between and the pamelo is sweet sour base that pair with the ingredient very well.

fa ying (11)

Thai Fish Cake @ RM 12

fa ying (12)

It will never be complete if you step into a Thai restaurant without ordering Tom Yum, the version here is rather mild and serve along with 2 slices of toast bread. Bread is good but to pair with thai soup its a bit weird.

fa ying (13)

Pinapple Fried Rice is pretty good as fried to fragrance and pineapple taste did not overpower the rice.

fa ying (14)

All ala carte order comes with this bowl of thai fragrant rice and a bow of thai salad. Thai salad is popular among the rest as the sour base and spicy end makes it nice.

fa ying (15)

Follow by our mild spicy Curry Duck. Duck meat is not too hard yet cook to perfection that the gravy is slightly thicker and coated well on the duck meat. Love this dish.

fa ying (16)

Phad Thai is like one of my favourite dish. Will try to order if available or not to full. Thin noodles here are pretty good, and did not fried too dry, slightly  moist to my liking. Serve along with peanuts and bean sprout to stir all together along.

fa ying (17)

Prawn Speghetti

fa ying (18)

fa ying (19)

Clearly Roasted duck sandwich @ RM20++

fa ying (20)

Is the clear winner for the night as it was gone within seconds. Smack in between 2 slices of toast Ciabatta  with combination of duck, vegetables and sauces is just nice. Fa Ying by Rama V

fa ying (22)

Here is the biday girl and her cakes.

fa ying (23)

Of course my usual order placement of cakes will be from Fatboybakes.blogspot.com

fa ying (24)

Lastly, for the celebration and we were told their signature cocktail that we shall not miss is Marquessa @ RM100, uniquely served in a huge fishbowl as the mixture of the drink  filled with dragon fruit, cucumber, burnt orange peel, Absolute Blue, white wine, soda and 7-Up. Nice to drink and can at least be share with 5-6 friends.  If you are a cocktail lover, then this is one of the item you shall not miss..

For a pork free restaurant to come out with this flavorful dish, I must say I am impress. Total bill for the night came out RM650. Not bad for a recommendation.

One of my favourite place that I used to hang out in Jakarta when I was based there quite a while is Menteng. Supper spot there is like those few particular place that must drop by or my friend often feed me along as they know I just love their food.

Menteng is slightly off from Jakarta City it self, not too far yet is about 15 minutes away only for night drive. If you are talking about day time traffic easily 30-45 minutes?

menteng (1)

Menteng street food or hawker center is rather famous to the locals yet slightly commercialize too as its located not too far from the city and offer variety of local hawker food that I love. Its actually one of my favourite hawker area for night spot in Jakarta

menteng (2)

Of course while you are seating in this busy hawker center, please beware on your personal belongings. . .

menteng (3)

Variety of local food you can hunt for as I always eat those usuals. ..

menteng (4)

Their local hawker food with cute little cart all stack by side by side and people here are very harmony, as they help each other in their business and lend a helping hand to serve and order.

menteng (5)

My bakso soup.

menteng (6)

If you want some challenge in your food, add in their super spicy chili sauce as only a 2 spoon full is enough to make me drench in sweat.

menteng (7)

Nasi Goreng Gila – (direct translation – Crazy Fried Rice) as they have lots of ingredient, whereby it means, what ever ingredient they have on their cart, they just cook everything along in it. One of my favourite too. RP7000 – RM 2.30

menteng (8)

Then my sate that I will not miss which is totally different from Malaysia version especially with the seasoning and the gravy that added on.

menteng (9)

Sate Kicap (Soy Sate)  is usually my favourite and add on with their local sambal. slightly sweet as on their soy sauce, thick in gravy with their own mixture and sambal kicks the flavour up on spicy side. I usually order in mutton.

menteng (10)

My all time favourite is roti bakar with cheeze and chocolate rice. Just awesome as some of you might find it sweet, yet this is one of the best toast I come accross, heavy for supper? NOpe as you will fall in love with it.

menteng (11)

menteng (12)

You will have a street band playing for you, as they go around tables. You can just tip them any amount you wish.

update: 1/5/2016 – close down

Although I studied in Melbourne for 3 years, neither did I know that Melbourne actually famous for Peking Duck. Then I went to Google about it and surpise to see that this outlet Melbourne Peking Duck is actually serve awesome Peking duck that written by many bloggers there. Quickly I watsapp my friend there, and she mention its a recent thing that got pick up over the past 3-4 years. Means it was after I left. Most of you studied there would know this restaurant Old Kingdom, that serve pretty good Chinese dish. Guess what? The master chef is here in this outlet preparing and coordinating all the dish here especially on his specialty Peking Duck.

MElbourne (1)

Now to those who are craving for Melbourne Peking Duck you need not take 747 all the way back there as they have just arrive in KL that started operate right about 2 weeks. The restaurant operate right in the heart of Bangsar or I would say directly opposite Alexis, Bangsar.

Easily to be located and the sign board already very prominent to capture your attention.

MElbourne (2)

As I went up here, the restaurant is still under its final touch as for now on 90% complete.

MElbourne (3)

this is what I meant 90% complete as the final 10% touch up are decorations in the outlet.

MElbourne (4)

I find that the price are pretty reasonable especially with Peking Duck set. With RM 78  you get a peking duck with 3 more dish conversion or RM88 with additional dish. Set 2 definitely capture my attention more.

MElbourne (5)

Chili paste taste awesome is something that you must not miss to add into your fried noodle or even into your peking duck roll.

MElbourne (6)

Here came our order that, the duck neck is long it shows that the duck is roast by hanging. Its shinny skin and roasted smell of the duck   distract our attention in take picture of the duck. Smells so good~

MElbourne (7)

As the crispy duck is ready to be skin, we cant wait to grab a piece of the skin and directly put it into our mouth.

MElbourne (8)

The master chef is here, we are proud to have him back as, at first thought I thought he is from China that resides in Australia. Well, all of us are wrong that he is actually a Malaysian with more than 10 years experience working in a famous restaurant for peking duck also stayed in Melbourne for more than 10 years.

As the chef cut thru the skin, can see moist fats oil oozing out from the meat. Saliva dripping.

MElbourne (10)

Here are the fine cut with sligtly cut meat along and ready to be wrap around. I quickly throw one piece into my mouth, I can sense that more peking duck is calling my name. 😀

The difference between the ducks that I previously had over a restaurant last week (click here) are, Melbourne Peking Duck cut with meat are slightly thicker and fats on beneath the skin just perfect.

MElbourne (11)

Then we were thought how to wrap on the chinese pancake along. Not only that, their pancake is home made fresh in the kitchen upon ordering as you can still feel its steamy hot, and have to quickly do the wrapping while its warm.

Lay the cucumber and spring onion on your 3 o’clock direction, add on your prefered amount  of sweet hoisin sauce, follow by laying the duck skin atop, fold half from 9’oclock to 3 o’clock direction and fold both ends together.

MElbourne (12)

Tadaaa…simple and easy to eat. The taste of crispy skin and duck meat along with the sauces just burst with flavours inside my mouth and I love the taste of the pancake. Think yet aromatic, pairs well with the peking duck. We end up having 2 duckie.

MElbourne (13)

As the duck is being slain, do not miss out duck drumstick. Moist meat with crispy skin on edges, dipping along with the sauce is just perfect.

After we have clear all the skin on the duck, what happen to the meat. Well, remember the set I was mention, it was then further slices the meat out to cook along with other dishes as below:

MElbourne (14)

As we were half full then we ordered Fried pork

MElbourne (15)

Salted Egg Yolk with Butter Chicken.
Buttery butter, balmy chili leaves ,with extremely light and thin ‘egg filament’ .

MElbourne (16)

Stir-fry beansprout with shredded duck meat. I prefer this is something light for me, yet this is the first time I came across bean sprout fried along with duck meat. Turns out to be pretty good.

MElbourne (17)

Homemade Tofu with fish meat

MElbourne (18)

MElbourne (19)

Another well cook dish is Shredded Duck Meat Fried Rice. Fragrant with ‘wok hei’ and the chili paste I mention, just bring the extra flavour out of it.

MElbourne (20)

Shredded Duck Meat Fried Flat Noodle. Stir-fry with dark soy sauce, loads of crunchy bean sprouts and shredded duck meat. We were so full when this dish came. Underestimate the make over of the duck.

MElbourne (21)

One of my favourite of all, its a very different version on the salty veggie duck soup I had as this bends towards more mild taste as after all heavy weight being serve first, this retaurant serve the soup in opposite direction. Its at the end. Something mild and nice to close off my appetite.

As last 2 week I also had peking Duck in another restaurant (click here) and here I am again to hunt for another good one. Verdict, this 1 stood out better.

The restaurant is newly operated do give a restaurant a month or 2 to improve on their dishes. If you are looking for nice Peking Duck, no doubt that this is one of the restaurant to hunt for. Good for you guys that stay nearby there. Recommended on their Peking Duck.

For family outing, here are the menu for your reference

Over the weekend, my best friend Ian was quite free then gave me a call ‘Woi, want to go have lunch? Go Batu Caves there makan’? I was like harr.. serious? Batu Caves? then he was like very good eh, will never introduce you wrong food, then I call Ken along too. Driving from my side to another side to hunt for this restaurant. Pan Heong Restaurant is one of a well know restaurant that attracts many from near and far. He also mention that why I should come here to makan is that they use Charcoal to cook! anything cook with charcoal always create another flavor out of it.

Pan Heong (1)

Pan Heong Restaurant is very well known to many locals especially their neighborhood area. With the quality of food and of course their very reasonable price had attracted people from all over then. It was Sunday morning and I was blow away on the numbers of customers queueing up for a table.

Pan Heong (2)

My other group of friends came earlier, therefore we got a spot pretty fast.

Pan Heong (3)

As when I dine in a new place, I always love to observe other tables on what they are ordering or what are the usual repeat order that they(diners) eat.

Pan Heong (4)

As my friend told me, they started off in under a tree and their business had grew so fast then they move to shop lot themselves.

Pan Heong (5)

Started off with a simple Vegetable @ RM 11

Pan Heong (6)

We did not order white rice therefore we go for their Fried Rice as I see many people order. It is a very simple dish that they fried it till very aromatic and ‘wok hei’ as I always love my fried rice to have chinese sausage. @ RM 15

Pan Heong (7)

This is one of their signature HOr Fun and supposedly to order their ‘Sang Har Mee’ but as majority would prefer this for this round. @ RM 15. I love the gravy texture, smooth with egg add up onto while it is serving very hot to let it cook itself while its hot. Smooth gravy and pair very well with the koey teow.

Pan Heong (8)

Next one of my favourite is their Kao Yoke Mee Hoon @ RM 17. Mee hoon was not fried too dry, moist as it originally suppose to be and eat along with the soft fatty Kao Yuk is just perfect. – Recommended!

Pan Heong (9)

Nam Yu (fermented bean curd) Pork is one of the dish not many places can cook well. I must say this place have done it well, that I nearly whack the whole plate by myself instead of sharing it with another 7 more pax. It is well marinated and deep fried to the edge is crispy, and the taste of fermented bean curd is there that do not over power the taste or too strong. – REcommended! @ RM 18.50

Pan Heong (10)

One of the dish that many table order is their Porridge. Then we opt for Fish Porridge @ RM 18. Silky smooth texture of porridge just like the one I had it in Hong Kong, sign’s of being boil long enough to come into this texture. Notice that the fish meat cook instantly under the super boiling hot porridge. Its a bit mild in taste yet just taste good~ Heee,, for sick people, it would be a good meal for you guys.

Overall, the food is not bad and the portion charge with the prices I would say its on the cheaper side as total bill came to RM 105 and dine with total 8 pax.
