In Penang, there are a few places bustling with alot of good restaurants that one particular place had attracted many people to visit with their seafront retailing concept which is Straits Quay. I have tried on a few restaurants available and Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant is one of the latest restaurant that me and my friends went to hunt as they suggested its a great place and he know the chef. Of course I say YES!

Oh Sushi (1)

When I arrived, the interior and the name Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant sounds pretty familiar only realise that I saw this brand in Mid Valley before and now they have expand it to Penang market that start operation since May 2011 . .

Oh Sushi (2)

Its fully pack on that weekend I went and its like 70% are reserved! Guess that they are pretty well known to Penangnites.

Oh Sushi (3)

Oh Sushi (4)

Oh Sushi (5)

In their menu they have quite a huge range of roll, sashimi and many more to choose from. Price are pretty decent

Oh Sushi (6)

These are all the hungry people that before the picture taken they were already arouse by the smell of the food therefore they attach without waiting for me this round.

Oh Sushi (7)

Start off with some snacks to chew on while waiting for the rest to arrive. Koebi Kaarage @ RM 8 simple fried small shrimps that shower with some salt and nice to munch when it is served hot, crispy and crunchy.

Oh Sushi (18)

Then Tatt say their sashimi is a must order cuz its fresh so we hit on Salmon Oyako @ RM 38. With a few big slabs of salmon and by looking at the orange colour shows its a good sign of freshness and no doubt it is!

Oh Sushi (11)

Volcano Roll @ RM 36 find that its a bit over price with the portion they are charging as I have tried a very good one before with this price. Its too much mayo that not well burn overall its not bad la~

Oh Sushi (13)

Prawns been fried fresh and wrap eat along. While dipping with wasabi and first bite can taste that the prawn meat is still hot. King Prawn Roll @ RM 22

Oh Sushi (17)

Sanma Mentai Yaki @ RM 17.50

Oh Sushi (9)

Oh Sushi (10)

The star of the night is Wagyu Saikoro that being serve on a super hot stone, as can still hear the siziling sound after being served a while. The meat is so tender yet juicy and moist. The fats being served along is just perfect and aromatic with their special sauce.

@ RM 56 – Recommended

Oh Sushi (12)

Agedashi Tofu @ RM16

Oh Sushi (14)

Beef slices for our Sukiyaki . .:D

Oh Sushi (15)

Sukiyaki @ RM 48

Oh Sushi (16)

What you do is just take this thin slice of beef and dip it in for a while then you can enjoy eating it fresh! Sukiyaki pot soup is pretty good with a bit salty at the end taste and just cant drink much type as it will be too salty at the end. pretty good~

Oh Sushi (19)

So this is all of us and looking back at my picture, I look like I have gain so much weight back then . .heheh

Overall, the food in Oh Sushi Japanese Restaurant is pretty good yet I still prefer Sushi Tei (available now at Gurney Plaza), my all time favourite~ if you compare this kind of chain together.

Some of us would have dinner outside almost everyday. Sometimes, we are just lost in hunting for what to eat on next meal. There is one outlet that newly operated in Sunway Pyramid new wing that sit directlyĀ acrossĀ Starbucks is this famous restaurant chain from Singapore, Paradise Inn. Yes correct! I think you have the same thought as me when I was like huh? A restaurant not a hotel? Well, the word InnĀ definitelyĀ mislead many of us yet it is confirm that its not a hotel and it is actually a restaurant.

Paradise Inn (1)

The restaurant is decorated back into the olden days with contemporary look as you can see at the main entrance is like back to the 70’s style design high class restaurant at that time.

Paradise Inn (2)

Paradise Inn is one of a well know restaurant chain in Singapore that they provide goodĀ home cookĀ style food at a very reasonable price.

Paradise Inn (3)

The food in the menu looks very tempting, everything in it looks good~

Paradise Inn (4)

One of their signature is their double boil soup that I can see nearly all tables have this classic pot sitting at their table.

Paradise Inn (5)_resize

I love the drinks that they are offering with a very light hint combination of the flavours and my fav is the one in the middle, which is one of the best seller (I suddenly forgot the name) then follow by Lavender Tea filled with some natural herbs and flowers like chrysanthemum too.

Paradise Inn (8)

Traditional double boil soup – Clam with pork ribs @Ā RM39.90/pot

Paradise Inn (9)

since every one order this, we were serve along to try it out along. This pot is enough to feed for 2-4 pax.

Paradise Inn (10)

Very clear in taste yet boil till the soup is aromatic, something that I have miss for quite some time and now I know where to hunt for nice double boil soup that is added into my list.

Paradise Inn (12)

Crisp-fried Crystal Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk one of the must order item. A prawn that had peel all the skins out and cook along that the whole prawn meat chew in your mouth blends with aromatic fried salted egg along just burst in flavour in your mouth. I always prefer to have prawns that already peel off its shell so can get the full taste of it. @ RM 29.90

Paradise Inn (13)

Crispy fried Fish With Preserved Bean Paste (Nam Yue) –Ā Dory Fish fillet battered with preserved bean paste that fried tillĀ crispĀ on all side.

Paradise Inn (14)

Sliced Tea Smoke Duck is something for you to go for a start and chew, well marinated and finely cut slice is just enough to keep you going. @ RM 12.90

Paradise Inn (15)

Another one of my favourite which is Crisp-fried Crystal Prawns in Wasabi Mayo Sauce. Sauce is not tooĀ wateryĀ that is just at the right texture to coat along with the prawns and at the end of the taste a hint of spiciness that just burns your nose a bit. Ā @ RM 29.90

Paradise Inn (16)

Seafood Supreme Fried Rice is cook with ‘wok hei’ till its a bit dry and best part is you wont see a fried rice that cook along with Ebiko. Its unique. @Ā RM19.90

Paradise Inn (17)

This is one of my all time favourite, that I had this so often when I was in Melbourne and came back not many people can cook this well. Certainly Poached Chinese Spinach with Egg Trio and Minced Pork in Superior Stock is one of the recommended dish also that cook along with 3 types of eggs (Century egg, salted egg and normal egg) and mince meat.Ā @ RM16

Paradise Inn (18)

The melt-in-your-mouth meat dishes, the Stewed Pork Belly Served with Lotus Bun

Paradise Inn (19)

It would be best to order along this Fluffy lotus bun as it is made fresh upon order.

Paradise Inn (20)

This is how you eat the stew pork with the bun, its one of the way and if you prefer to eat it without the bun also would be a perfect pair with your rice, because of its great sauce.

Paradise Inn (21)

I never like eggplant before because of its soft moist texture and after I have try good food when I was in Hong Kong i fallĀ in loveĀ with this dish. Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork and Salted Fish in Claypot that will pair along veryĀ well withĀ your rice as the taste of it justĀ absorbs. @ RM16

Paradise Inn (22)

One of a unique dish for the day is Coffee Pork Ribs, its a bit bitter at the end taste as that’s the result of coffeeĀ flavor. Very well prepared as the coffee taste do not over power their sauce that cook along. @ RM 19.90

Paradise Inn (23)

Crisp-fried Shrimp Paste ChickenĀ crispĀ from inside out. @ RM18

Paradise Inn (24)

Braised Vermicelli with Pork Trotters is something that I used cook often when I am at oversea and now they have it here too. Its not too salty as it looks and the taste of pork trotters is in it without the vermicelli fried too dry. @Ā RM19.90

Paradise Inn (25)

Braised Tofu with Crystal Prawns @ RM25

Paradise Inn (26)_resize

At the end of the dinner, how can we not have desert when I scroll thru their desert page I am tempted to order all to try. So I guess my wish was granted and we have all it here. Corn and Barley, Mango Desert andĀ Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with LemonadeĀ

Paradise Inn (27)_resize

Mango Pudding, Black Sesame PasteĀ and AlmondĀ

Paradise Inn (33)_resize

Double-boiled HasmaĀ with Red DatesĀ and Longan and Black GlutinousĀ with tong yuen.

At the end of the meal, I was so full and satisfied, as rarely aĀ ChineseĀ restaurant that would serve quite a good range of food and taste is control best of all the price is very reasonable.. Definately I am looking foward to come back and dine here.

One of a recommended Restaurant!~

How many of you do you actually dine or yum cha at local kopitiam especially on local franchise chain? Often that we do not have satisfactory food or drinks in certain outlet. It was not until recently that Carmen insist to bring me here for the main reason they serve pretty good food for aĀ franchiseĀ chain and second because her friend operate this outlet. This outlet certainly have my vote in ..

[close down]

Hailam (1)

This shop is located at one of my favourite Pork Ball Noodle Kopitiam (click here) which is directly behind is this Hailam Kopitiam, also facing directly Bangsar Village.

Hailam (2)

A place that you can dine quite cozy with marble tables and wooden chairs, as there are alot of fans in the ceiling that keeps the cool air around.

Hailam (3)

They have pretty wide range of food and drinks and price wise I find it rather cheap compare to another 2 brands. One good thing about this shop as it is a HALAL kopitiam.

Hailam (4)

Hailam (5)

Traditional Hazelnut White Coffee, Ice Roasted Coffee and Hailam Milk Teao

Hailam (7)

Passion Fruit & Dragon Fruit Shake @ RM 7.50

Hailam (8)

Traditional Hailam Tea andĀ Traditional Hailam Roasted Coffee @ RM3.20

I am not really a coffee drinker as most of my friend know, as I drink coffee I have the opposite effect which is getting sleepy. One thing that really love is the coffee here. Certainly beats quite a number of places that the taste of coffee is robust, well blend, strong in aroma and did not go too milky. If you are here, certainly its a recommended drink!

Hailam (9)

A simple Toasted Sliced Bread with Butter & Kaya @ RM2.50 where you think most of us can do it at home, I just do not know what is the trick that it can be toasted outĀ crispyĀ and with one bite, you can see the crumbs dropping off and a simple spread of butter and kaya makes it a simple bites to beĀ wobbleĀ down. Must eat it while it is freshly out from the toaster! If you pair this with the hot coffee and Ā half boil egg it would be the most perfect combination of all!!

Hailam (10)

For the price of RM 7.20 for Chicken Deluxe Sandwich, it is certainly reasonable in price with generous amount of ingredient added in, chunks of chicken and vege with sauceĀ evenlyĀ spread makes it nice to eat.

Hailam (11)

Tuna Egg Sandwich @ RM5.20

Hailam (12)

Star of the night is this Hailam Chicken Chop with Original Sauce. We never expect a chicken chop will taste so good and impress us so far at this kind of restaurant chain. It is juicy and tender, as the meat is not dry, sauce is well balance that I just requested for another bowl of sauce to make it gravvyyyy enough for me on the chicken and fries. Recommended! Ā RM14.20

Hailam (13)

A dish of Mix Fried Mee (Fried Ying Yeong) especially with HALAL status, caught us by surpise that it was fried perfectly with wok hei, that certainly can match with many chinese hawker center area on quality. I just had this again when I was meeting my friend there 2 hours ago. It is satisfied, and my malay friend find it delicious.Recommended!Ā RM7.80

Hailam (14)

I always love to try tomyam fried rice, not many places that can fried this to my likings, either too powdery, or the taste is too strong. Then find that Hailam Tomyam Fried Rice offer in this shop is well balance in taste, with a bit of sourish and spicy that comes to my liking. RM8.80

Hailam (15)

A simple malaysian delicacies which is Nasi Lemak Special with Rendang Ayam, with rice is very fragrant with coconut milk that serve along with thick curry gravy and eat along with the sambal just goes along very well. RM9.60

Hailam (16)

Fried Kuey Teow another dish thatĀ surpriseĀ us. Fried with enough wok hei, till the koay teow is very fragrant and while smelling it, already makes a lot people hungry. After the first bite into our mouth, we were stun! the taste is very similiar to the ones in Penang, not only that, it was fried without pork lard and we just cannot imagine that if the chef can fried with pork lard, this dish will be a big hit among many people. Recommended!

Hailam (17)

Hailam Fried Mee/ Hailam Mee @ RM8.50

Hailam (18)

Curry Noodle

I know that many franchise chain food are quiteĀ disappointing, but when comes to this outlet, I would want to say that their food certainly outstanding compare to other shops and I have went back here a few times since I was brought by Carmen that I must thank her now, even now I know where to bring my Malay friends when they crave for nice chinese Ā HALAL food.

The funny thing is that, when May Ling ask me to join her for dinner and told me the name of the restaurant I was like hah? again and again. .. as the restaurant name is called Ricetaurant which is located in Bangsar Village 2 which I cant even remember when is the last time that I came here.

The changes here is quite alot that now host quite a number of nice cafe’s and restaurant in this building.

Rice Taurant (1)

Get to know one of the reason that why the restaurant is name like that because of Asian’s culture that most of us need to have rice on most of our meals.

Ricetaurant offers best of dishes around the region that makes it a bitĀ fusionĀ style.

Rice Taurant (2)

I like the restaurant design in such a way that, it looks like a small little hidden cafe in some ally when I was in Melbourne, with tree trunk and very classic kitchenĀ utensils to be party of the design.

Rice Taurant (3)

Rice Taurant (4)

The place is not big, but good enough to provide us a very comfy dining space, with paintings on the wall and open space kitchen right in the corner.

Rice Taurant (5)

I like their menu, it reminds me when I was in primary school on maths homeworkĀ exerciseĀ  book. Price wise is pretty decent which is not too over price with their portion being served.

Rice Taurant (6)

1) Apple, Elderflower and Lychee – just a perfect drink that blend till just perfect that I can taste the apple skin and very tiny small cubes of lychee – Recommended

2)Ā Hainanese Tea

3)Ā Pineapple, Orange and Mint

Rice Taurant (7)

Chinese Olives & Seafood Fried Rice smells good, that already know enough ‘wok hei’. The rice were fried till perfect dry, very fragrant in taste and just find that the black pepper taste slightly over power the overall taste. If they reduce a bit, it would be perfect.

Rice Taurant (8)

One of my favourite of the night is Teriyaki Chicken, which had been marinated very well, then cook along that the chicken is soft and every piece that I bite, the chicken is well coat with the sauce. Recommended

Rice Taurant (9)

A plain simple fried rice, that lean towards very simple chinese style is Chicken and Long Bean Fried Rice. Very mild in taste yet fragrant in wok hei and if you eat along with some curry dishes, just good enough to be satisfied for me.

Rice Taurant (10)

Another star of the night is Claypot Chicken, Yam and Dried Prawns in Nam Yue Sauce. Cook so well that the gravy is just thick enough, and some yam that just melts along with it, with cubes of chicken is soft and perfect to eat along with rice. – Recommended

Rice Taurant (11)

Sweet and Sour Fish

Rice Taurant (12)

If I am not mistaken this is Belacan Fried Chicken which is out of my expectation, friedĀ crisply and by dipping with the sauce adds a bit kick but I still think eat it plain is much better and along with any of the fried rice.

Rice Taurant (14)

If you love cuisine from east, then this is another must order dish –Ā Ayam Percik with Nasi Ulam

Rice Taurant (15)

The trick is, you must mix everything up Oxtail Asam Pedas, Sambal Belacan, Salted Egg, Ulam-ulam, Salted FishĀ and then eat along. Taste is pretty authentic with the ones I have tried before.

Rice Taurant (16)

After we are so full, I still decide to try out theirĀ Black Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk. Sticky enough, as the black stick rice cook till its soft and its a suprise that they add in lychee that makes it natural sweet on fruits, as I have always like mine to mix along with coconut milk which makes it perfect. Not many places I get to enjoy this and certainly this is one of the recommended desert for me.

After the whole meal, we are just satisfied and surely we are going to return for more, as most of the dish here are quite authentic and nice.

About a year ago, Sunway Giza used to be quite a deserted area to be hang out with as I remembered for the very first time when I visited the place about a year ago, it was very dead where about 2-4 FnB outlets were operating in the area and now, the whole place is so happening.Ā Coffee Chemistry Cafe

[updated – July 2014- no longer in operation]

That now house a lot of FnB and bars too besides simple grocery shopping, and now a lot people head to Sunway Giza for happy hour and friends meeting up. One of the place that I have been a lot of times that I just didn’t blog bout it till now, as all of you sure know a pub which is quite happening in the area Movida, which is one floor above them, hidden one very hidden gem, Coffee Chemistry,Cubic PlateformsĀ that now known by many people for its good coffee, hang out place, for many friends and families

coffee chemistry (1)

coffee chemistry (4)

As when you opened the door, you will be a bit shock that HTC and Digi are in it too then smack this little cafe with them.

coffee chemistry (2)

Where alot people hang out here where I observed many of them are coffee lovers that just come by here to have a sip of coffee with friends and family while just enjoying their time.

coffee chemistry (3)

A mini kitchen that will blow your mind away with their very own recepi .. .

coffee chemistry (5)

I am not a big fan of coffee drinker as I always order something unique then this caught my attention with ‘Roasted Almond Cafe @ RM 9.50. I find that the almond taste is just there that the coffee is not too strong to overpower it instead it pair up very well, and I just love my cup of coffee.

NED_8152_resize

One of my usual in a cafe to start off with is Mocha @ RM 6.90, with very nice coffee art, and the chocolateĀ  makes the cup of coffee blends well, that is now one of my favourite. .

NED_8151_resize

Flat White that covers with a very thin froth that is just nice to sip for a Sunday afternoon.

NED_8153_resize

Many places are not able to served Iced Mocha the way I like and when I come across this icy drink, it was above my expectation that the milk is light, able to preserved the taste of coffee and chocolate taste in it with the ice cubes do not dilute it after quite some time, which is pretty impressive.

coffee chemistry (6)

Then I asked the boss what is best to start off with and recommended Homecook Mushroom Soup @ RM 9.90, when this bowl of soup was served, while I was taking this picture, I just snap quickly and put down my gear to try it out, as the arome of the creamy milk just so nice, yet one of a unique taste of mushroom soup that I come accross, its not thick, yet mild creamy, filled with lots of fine chopped onion and mushroom, that makes me finish this whole bowl by myself. – Recommended~

coffee chemistry (11)

For greens or healhty eating, they offer Salmon Caesar Salad @ RM 15.90

NED_8162_resize

and Chicken Caesar I find it taste better in terms of the chicken breast is well marinated and soft that goes along with this light meal.

coffee chemistry (7)

One of the dish that did suprise us all when he told us one of his best seller is Bacon Fried Rice that looks pretty dull plain and while put into our mouth, it was burst with aroma, withĀ ‘wok hei’ with such a small kitchen, and it is very generous in ingredientsĀ that every mouth full is filled with bacon. Another dish to Go after!

coffee chemistry (8)

Those who felt that would want to eat something light, Salmon Wrap @ RM 8.90

NED_8156_resize

Another item that I quite like in their menu is Homemade Pizza (which I forgot this name of it), is very similiar to one of my favourite hawker pizza (Frankie’s Pizza) that made with home crust bread toast it then filled with lots of ingredient, cheeze just melted on top to make it a bit salty nice.

NED_8158_resize

Beef Herbs Speghatti in Spicy Cream Sauce, usual I go on extra spicy, then this round I decided to try the beef and in normal taste. Love the creamy base of it with fine chuncks of onion, that I would prefer it without the green papper taste of it.

coffee chemistry (9)

Al-Funghi Pasta @ RM 13.90

coffee chemistry (10)

Filled with lots of garlic slices, onion and mushroom.

I would say that this place surely do served very good coffee that can beat many outlets out there, as the coffee is not too strong that can suits many taste bud even not for coffee drinker like me and the after aroma of it is mild and stays in our palate for quite a while that I just like it. For strong coffee drinker, you might not like the mild taste of it, with the quality, I am sure you will enjoy a bit.

One of the latest crave that hit me is keep hunting for Japanese cuisine after watching that Hong Kong TVB sushi series – The Rippling Blossom. In that movie showing how to eat sushi in a way filled with temptations. Therefore, when I went back to Penang, on and off I still hunt for food and hear quite lot of my friends said that Azuma Japanese Restaurant which located in Queensbay mall in Penang serve quite good food in there, while waiting for my bus to depart back go KL, I went there with my family. .

In a very normal Japanese dining, will have the conveyor belt on the sushi bar which you can just pick and choose your favourite sushi and eat.. . .. They also do have private small cubical which is perfect for couple to be seated and huge dining area to host more people.

The menu offer is quite standard and prive is slightly above compare to other outletsĀ  .. .
