I have been working nearby for quite a while and everytime I drove pass by here, its always pretty crowded at this Rojak Stall that you will hardly miss with 2 vans parked side by side with one selling Cendol and another oen selling Rojak. As far as I know this stall had been here for donkey years already and attracted many loyal customers around the area.

The term rojak is pretty different when it comes to states as in my hometown we called it Pasembur and Rojak is those with prawn paste and fruits.

rojak (1)

They do not have a proper seating or tables as there are only a few plastic chairs available and sitting next to their van as the table to eat or when it get pack you can see many people standing around eating or even there are customers taking it to their car and eat.

Here is pretty well know for 2 types of rojak which is the classic and another version is Rojak Mee means with yellow noodle in it.

rojak (6)

Here is Rojak Mee @ RM 3.50 if I am not mistaken.

rojak (7)

Serve along with ingredients such as floury cake, sliced cucumber, hard boiled egg, fried tofu, bean sprout and fried crackers. I prefer mine without the noodle as I find the noodle spoil the taste of the gravy. This stall still not the best as the peanut sauce here is quite sweet for me, I prefer another stall which is in Seapark nearby Maybank.

rojak (8)

Besides the food, you can try out another type of Cendol which is slightly gives you different flavour compare to those in Penang or Melaka. For a bowl of Rm1.20 you really cannot expect alot. Again its just too sweet for me. Not my type of cendol.  Shaved ice is still pretty rough and the red bean they use is quite moist and soft. Well, I just finish 3 sip then I am done . .

Some of you might find this stall is pretty good. Really depends on your own taste.

What did you do during last week of Malaysia Day? I guess some of you will have plans as its a bit long weekend for us. As for me, me and my friends heading wayyy south to Johor for holiday which by far the furthest I have travel down south is only Melaka. Pulai Desaru Beach Resort & Spa All of us work hard, just that once a while, we need to take a break, to cool us down, chill on more relaxing area then head back fresh, and the last round I took myself off was heading to Pulau Pangkor for a short stay. (click here)

Desaru (1)

One of the reason that we head down south for this stay is because, we have special arrangement with my friend that had called her up and every everthing for me. For being first time in this state, alot of things I want to discover and share out. When she send me the itinerary, I got excited that it is seriously fill with lots of visits and food to visit.

Well, after 3 n half hours drive from Kuala Lumpur, we had reach Pulai Desaru, whereby its a located on the east side of Johor that takes another 35-45 minutes drive from the city..

Desaru (2)

Pulai Desaru Beach had its new offering to public with 200 newly refurbish rooms to provide all holiday travelers with an ultimate comfort and lifestyle. This resort also had attracted a number of celebrity to stay here and most of the their guest from Singapore, which is very nearby. With their new concept, the resort have design their rooms in a few types with season colour and lovers wing. Part of it is to make holiday travelers enjoy their stay and would want some changes in their room ambiance, they can do so.

Desaru (3)

Desaru (4)

The newly refurbish lobby are build in contemporary style to bring modern ambiance to travelers.

Desaru (5)

A simple bar at the lobby with 2 pool table and draft tab is available for you too. . .

Desaru (6)

One of the thing I like the most is this hotel lift. Feels like you are heading into some where cool.

Desaru (7)

After checking in, I head back to my room. Its very simple, spacious and comfy.

Desaru (8)

Desaru (9)

Best of all, I have one of the best view facing garden swimming pool view that smack near right in the middle and on the highest floor.

Desaru (10)_resize

I like the toilet design which is just simple, and nice, bath tub is spacious too.

Desaru (11)

We do have welcome fruits in our room.

Desaru (12)

Then I went over to my friends room which they have a queen’s size bed and realize that, there are slight different compare to our room that the colour of the wall is different as this room is painted in orange, ours is painted in green and toilet design is also different. I only manage to catch up this 2 rooms.

Desaru (13)

night proceeds, then went down to do some photo shoot around the resort. . .

Desaru (15)   Desaru (16)

For family that bring kids here, they do have 2 sections for your kids to play around, this ping pong area, and a video game console which is attach next to it, that allow your kids to glue to their seats and you can go for a comfort swim.

Desaru (17)

For younger kids, they do have this little indoor play ground for them to play around as its covered with glass panel.

It was recently that, I have tried something new when I was back to Penang for holiday. Then my friend insist that I must try out this, and I did came to this place 2 times the stall did not open until the third time, it was there. Well, I have try out Satay Celup in Melaka, Lok Lok in Penang Island and for the first time, I went over to the mainland Bukit Mertajam area to hunt for food then I have come across, Lok lok in Rojak Style (that filled with prawn paste – heh kor) that if famous among the neighbourhood. My friend called this Chiam-Chiam Rojak.

This is the little stall that park right at the road side, nearby opposite a school and I am surprise to see this little stall flock with many people and it was drizzling still many people stand by it to eat.

Choices available are more like fruits, young mango, mengkuang, jambu air, cucumber and a few more.

The trick is, choose your favorite stick of fruits then just stuff the whole stick into this thick filled with lots of peanut rojak sauce that separate into two section, spicy and non spicy.

This is how it looks like after dipping into the sauce and I find that spicy is challenging, that first few sticks you do not feel the spiciness, but once it kicks in, your mouth will go numb a bit, yet still I keep dipping into the spicy sauce.

As the effect of it, of course your fruits will be fully coated with the rojak sauce, of course it will drip onto the floor like bird shit, what you have to do is. . . ..

spread your leg wide and shove your head out a bit like girrafe, so that it wont drip onto your shoe or shirt.

This is how good the business is, and many people stop by to make a take away of the sauce also.

If you are looking for something new to eat, as for me, this is something new that I was shown by my friend. Price is pretty cheap.

Remark: the stall doesnt have a fixed operation hours, so it depends on your luck!

We are so full till walk is also a problem. Then after coming out from the desert shop, a ah pek selling ‘Pumpkin Cake’ caught my attention. Some more the ah pek was telling me, I must eat. If I don eat I will regret, then I ask the ah pek. SO hoh liau boh..?? he said Guarantee hoh liau! If boh hoh jiak, money back. I was like…wah, so geng boh. Okay la. I grab 2 piece. One with chili and 1 without.

Looks like ‘Chai Tau Kuih’ but doesnt taste similiar. The one with chili sauce taste nicer. Soft texture yet orangy yellowish in the inside, and the taste is there. Would say its the best but its above average. Supporting ah pek under the hot sun, well I would say worth it.

Walk walk walk down the street, then Karen was like…woiii..I want to buy this. Icy cool like ice blended on the street with fruits flavour.

got passion fruit, mango, watermelon and other fruits available Only RM2.50 for a cup of street ice blended. Its cheap I would say.
Sip and sip under the hot sun walking this street is just no complain.
Then the shop next to the ice blended stall, the aroma of fried cempedak fly me to this stall. The Keharum’ness of the smell is just fantastic.
‘Fried Cempedak’ yit lat lat from the kuali….just cant wait to salivate it. Still so full yet hiau, so bought a piece from the ah ma. Smell nice but doesnt taste good. Kena con by the aroma. RM0.60

This is one of my friend’s favourite Rojak stall which I have always think that it is so so only but cannot denied that this stall business is much better compare to the rest of the rojak stall available there. My friend was ‘ta pauing’ and decided to try again for the rojak since like say till so nice and nice.
It was already 11.30pm this time and the people still flowing in to get the Rojak. It is priced at RM3, RM5, RM8 and RM10. If you want to customise the pricing by yourself just let the seller know. They will do exactly what you want.

This is the Rojak that came out. It turn water very fast is because of the fruits. The gravy was not sticky enough like thick glue and still thinks that it is not as nice. Well, again, different people have different taste bud.. Still my best rojak stall is the 1 I like alot at Lebuh Macallum, Rojak.

If you are looking for better Rojak at Gurney Drive Hawker center, we still thinks that this stall has better taste although the seller is a bit LANSI(celaka), Penang Best Rojak.
