Chinese New Year is just around the corner, which I could not believe myself too. Next weekend, all of us will be heading back for Reunion dinner. Nevertheless, alot of restaurants and hotels now do offer great food for reunion dinner as many families had opted to eat out instead of cooking at home because on ambiance and convenience.

As for this round, we head to Checkers Cafe located inside Dorsett Regency Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

doorsett (2)

Checkers cafe offers a great soothing ambiance which is perfect for family gathering as the whole place is comfortable, can be separate out with other diners also indulge with a very simple decoration to stir up the mood of CNY.

Once we were seated, we were greated by this huge Pineapple as a special welcome drink called Prosperity Splash Drink (Mixtured of Pineapple, Mandarin orange, Dragon Fruit juice and hint of honey) indeed its a thirst quencher drink that you will never had enough.

doorsett (5)

What we are having for the night is a 8 course dinner that prepared by a great Chinese chef.

doorsett (6)

Of course like any other celebrations during Chinese New Year and before dinner or everything starts, we will always starts with ‘Lou Sang’ which is only a tradition that available in a few countries around South East Asia. The thick sauce is specially made with chef’s own recipe to enhance on the taste of the ‘lou sang’. Their unique of Yee Sang is that ‘Salmon Yee Sang with crispy Salmon skin’.

Fresh Salmon ‘Yee Sang’ for the night . . . .

doorsett (9)

As preparation, you mix everything what is next to the plate on sauce and other ingredients.

Pictures credit to: www.everydayfoodilove.com

In the process of Yee Sang, by using a chopstick and stick inside the Yee Sang then you say out loud your  “auspicious wishes”  for the year, every toss say one wish whereby mostly is high salary, good business, good health and many more. The higher you toss,

doorsett (10)

This is usually the aftermath of lou sang and this consider not that bad, as for me and my friend, it did fly to someone’s hair before and the whole portion left half as another half is on the table. 😀

doorsett (11)

A very delicious, savory with a bit sweet, sour, crispy salmon skin that kick a perfect start before dinner. One of a good Yee Sang that I have come across so far. . .

doorsett (12)

Pan-fried Lamb Rack with Chef Special Sauce

This is the super star of the night as one piece would not be enough. I think I do not mind to have at least 5 pieces of this that it is well marinated till the sauce got into the meat, well quoted with the sauce that make it very juicy and not only that, the meat is so soft till it nearly melts, no lamb gammy taste which is a perfect dish for every one. Highly Recommended!

doorsett (13)

Braised Shark’s Fin with Assorted Seafood

During Chinese new Year, Shark Fin will mostly fill onto the table as they are quite generous with the ingredient. I can eat chunks of crab meat, fish maw and assorted seafood every spoonful of it.

doorsett (14)

Followed by Steamed Chicken with Herbs.

Juicy and soft meat with the herb sauce soak onto the meat and make every bite delicious.

doorsett (15)

Deep Fried Cod Fish with Superior Soya Sauce

This is also another favourite dish for the night, as the fish being deep fried on the outer layer till its crispy then shower along with superior soy sauce. Always love the texture of cod fish which is soft and moist.  – Recommended

doorsett (16)

Deep Fried Prawns with Seafood Sauce

Fresh prawn that indicates by the solid meat texture and the seafood sauce pairs it very well.

doorsett (17)

Braised Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Dried Oyster and Black Mushroom with seasonal vegetable

doorsett (18)

Fried Rice with ginger and salted egg

Fried hot from the wok with ‘wok hei’ a bit salty and I still add in some soy sauce to further bring up the taste. Its simple and good to further fill my stomach.

doorsett (19)

Steamed Nian Gao which is prepared by the chef himself as its a bit softer compare to those I have eaten so far and I love Nian Gao alot as get to eat once a year. I love it to well coated with lots of coconut.

doorsett (20)

Golden Sesame Ball with Red Bean paste

doorsett (21)

For the first time I am trying Sweetened Red Bean Paste, as I mean the red bean had been blend into a very thick to make this desert out. Usually I eat this in watery base filled with Red Bean chunks.

doorsett (22)

This is the Sous Chef Lai behind the wok that had created this great range or Perfect Dinner menu that have all what a Reunion dinner needs. In this menu many chinese believe in every dinner must have Prawns, Fish, Chicken, dried oyster and nian gao. All have their own meaning in a Chinese New Year Dinner.

I certainly would recommend for their CNY Chinese Menu if you wanted to go for reunion dinner at this hotel. Great food ~

doorsett (23)

We were also given cup cakes with Dragon Icon and gold. The cake is moist and nice!

One of the thing that we are looking forward to after a long stroll at the Aborigines Park in Taiwan(click here), we were told that Tina and Eva had already book a very nice restaurant for dinner which served their specializing hot and spicy Sichuan cuisine. Kiki Restaurant is rated one of the best around the area.

kiki

As I was told by Tina that this famous restaurant chain is own by their famous local celebrity Singer and TV host Lan Xin Mei that can only be found in Taipei District. Tina had book this restaurant few days ahead to ensure we get a place in this restaurant which RESERVATION is a must before you head here.

kiki (2)

This building had 3 story and the whole building is fully packed with people. Shows that they do have a serious good business. Their contemporary design with unfancy orangy lighting with wooden and nice chairs to make all of us comfy to dine in the restaurant.

kiki (3)

While we were at Sun Moon Lake we saw this great souvenir to get and give to this 2 great new friends Tina and Eva to thank them for spending so much time with us while we are there. We gave them a token of appreciation of NT 1 mil that shared by me and Pak .. .hahaha. . . .

3 of them are just as funny as they are, we had good laughter and crap all the way.

One thing I am glad off that my friends know that I love to eat and they would recommend their favourite place. This round James introduce me to this little coffee shop Restaurant New Sun Ho, corner lot located in OUG which is famous for Loh Mee. I have been here a few times that I usually forgot to take my camera out, and this round was a bit unlucky.

sun ho

This Restaurant Sun Ho is easily spot and located with its fading buidling colour and suddenly a stricking green shade extention infront of the restaurant.

sun ho (2)

The Loh Mee stall is located exactly in the middle of the coffee shop.

sun ho (3)

It was operate by both this husband and wife that during lunch time, they are seriously busy. There are a few types of noodle you can choose from but their signature is ‘Fat Noodle’ but the good business for the day that their signature noodle sold out, so I opted ‘Yee Mee’ and some of them order ‘Fried Noodle’

sun ho (4)

Under this condition, do expect alot of heat and sweat flowing out from your body if you do meet such a hot day.

Pasar malam used to be one of my favourite past time during college day’s and was looking for my friend at Sri Petaling so I asked him go where makan he suggest pasar malam. Stim~~~~
Thinking back in college days, me and my housemate will each take out RM15 then one person will carry the cash all night long. What ever we come across in that stall, just buy only 1 and share by the 3 of us. It is like I 1 mouth, you 1 mouth and the other guy 1 mouth. Our culture is as we walk we eat and see. Lol. Those were the days~~
As I walked around, then find this stall like got raided by lots of people.‘Curry Fish Ball’ But I manage to open my leg kang kang and ask them all go away…let me take my pic..lol!! Just so coincidence when I reached it was only us. So manage to take pic of the stall and it is very cheap!~!~!~
RM 1 per stick! Sial betul. If compare to the one I ate in HK of course its like heaven and earth.

This is what the ah pek explained to me. ‘Boy, you want very spicy or non spicy’ (feel happy, call me boi)From left to right, [Very Spicy], [Tomyam], [Spicy] and [Non Spicy-Black Pepper]

I only grab 2 cuz my friend don want. Celaka!!!! So I grab the very spicy which is I found it not as spicy as he mention, and black pepper totally not my type.

Food rating 6.5/10 , Okay ~ -Stamped-

Then came by this stall, ‘Char Koey Teow and seems like having very good business, so early yet the tables are all occupied and he was so busy goreng’ing so try loh~ The uncle also like to take pic, got distracted when I was taking him goreng’ing.
Now is is paying full attention on it as I was making sure he cooked mine properly.
When it got served I was abit shocked as I got charged RM4 and keep looking where is my prawn. Then the uncle told me that if I want prawn need to inform them. I was like ‘huhhhh‘!! Feel that it is kinda pricey with all the si ham they give me and I don really eat Si Ham…aiii…..
The food was well friend. Not bad. Just that if he fried the koay teow dry abit would be perfect.
Food rating 7/10 , Good ~ -Stamped-
Ahhh ha…this is one of my very favourite stall for ‘Tong Sui’. Forgot to take the pic of the stall cuz it was taken by my friend as he wanted to play with my camera. I thought he did take the whole thing but turns out to be the sign board only. aiii..I forgot to check.
Then there is one guy that asking how is the business from the auntie as the young guy also planing to open a desert shop. The advice from the aunt was go tour around in Taiwan then you try what ever food you are interested then collaborate with them. The funny thing was, ‘Aiyooo, I tell you, if you open this kind of stall in a mall, bankrupt also got your share loh. Like this 1 better, can travel around and more ppl keen on it. Mall high class ppl where can enjoy.’ Lol
Located directly opposite The Store supermarket.
This is my all time favourite which is Taufufa with Tong Yuen 2 pieces of black sesame and 2 with peanuts. RM 3.50.
Then comes to this super geng stall, which is from far far far far far…you can smell the smell of it already. Which is ‘Smelly Taufu The same, got rape by a group of people in buying the smelly taufu. My friend is the last person in the line in green t-shirt. My best friend Chris. I was amaze on how good the business was as the person in front of me bought 75 pieces. I was thinking, ‘Wah lau, this guy having pesta smelly taufu ka‘….
I am only a small eater so I just bought 4 for RM2.40.
Food rating 10/10 , Good Ah~ -Stamped-
Located opposite The store supermarket. just directly opposite each other of the Hong Kong Sago Loh.
As said on the sign board. ‘Aroma Across a thousand Miles’

It sure do look plain, but then the best part is, it is as smelly as the pasar tong sampah, It is either you like it or you hate it. Durian style. Of course the best part is you eat, then you try to have a passionate or wild kiss with your bf/gf..sure very high~..hahaha.. This is what I have down to my smelly taufu. Hantam everything in there on what they have given to me.

Enjoying my taufu. Damm, it is just so hot. But than again, cannot compare to the 1 I ate in Hong Kong. The aroma is stronger and taste much nicer as it put with ‘sweet sauce and their custom made chili sauce. For Malaysian version its consider not bad.

Then I ate half way, suddenly this uncle caught my attention, where he come from la, from INDIA? can just put the whole stack of newspaper on top of his head without falling down like those ppl in India putting what ever they can put on their head.

It was a satisfactory meal with some walk and walk. Just that, celaka Chris did not eat along.

Got a call from my dad asking me to come here eat ‘Wan Tan Mee which he claim is very famous and nice.

It was prepare by old uncle and auntie. They are really busy in their stalls, with quite a number of people standing there for take away order and tables of customers waiting for their food.

After waiting for 20 mins the food finally arrive. It was noting special on the food as it look the same ‘Wan Tan Mee‘ other stalls have but then the spacial thing was the noodle. It is very different compare to other stalls, the noodle is more curly and ermmm…don really know how to say. It taste very plain also. Nothing special, maybe it was the noodle that’s why the stall is famous for. Cost only RM2.50 if not mistaken.

Hmm
…that makes me wondering, is that that area is full of luck, the food there is not so nice but they are having good business all the time.

Location:
Burmah Road.
Beside Union Primary School.
Next to Ah Guan Apong stall.

It was the final day for my friend to be in Pg so requested to find Koey Teow Thing to eat. Called my dad and he mention some where around here with 2 sister preparing it. So I was round and round and I think this should be the one. Pack of uncle auntie and the kopitiam solely selling only Koay Teow Soup.
This was the kind of Kopitiam style that I miss. quite clean yet the old sit infront of me was there talking or chui sui on local politics. This is the thing that I like on traditional kopitiam with ppl talking nonsense and shouting here and there like Kopi – O chit pui..(one glass in hokkein).
Then I was observing the mid 20’s guy was on the road side repairing helmet. This is the 1st time I came across this kind of thing as all the while I know got repairing shoe or handbag did not know that Helmet cushion also can be change or repair. He had good business as I was there for so long he was busy for so long yet so many people was waiting.
While waiting for the Koay Teow Soup we ordered the Neh Neh (indian) Apong. It has been a while since I last eat this kind of thing. Since he had good business maybe because of the wet market in front so decided to join the crowd to order. 3 piece for RM1. Reasonable. As usual, the crust is crispy and the center looks like with egg but it is flour taste very good for that kind of price.

Here comes our Koey Teow Soup’. Usually I would prefer Duck Meat Koay Teow Soup as it taste much better but do not look down on this bowl of thing. Alot of mixture in the soup. Got 3 types of diff fish ball as we believe it is home made, then fishcake and meat ball. The soup taste very nice with the feel of the ori koey teow soup, and the homemade fish ball is very nice and soft. The fishcake is not so good. It only cost RM3.50 if not mistaken.

This is one of the Signature in the shop as I observed alot people ordering this. It is the ‘Wild Boar Meat Curry Mee. Their ori was with Yee Mee but it had finish so switch to Mee + Koay Teow. The meat is very soft and tender not like some other is very hard like throw dog also can faint. The curry is not too spicy not like the curry chicken curry but taste very nice. Blend along very well with the meat and koey teow. As I believe this is also RM3.50 as I paid both for RM7.

Please do not go late as I went there around 9.50am most of the signature food are already out. Also famous for their ‘Chicken Leg’ I believe as alot people order it also and it was already finish when I reached there.
