I used to travel to Jakarta quite frequent and did event stay there for a month leisure and business few years back. Since then my Indonesian friend brought me tried out a lot of their local street food and it just taste good. Since then I am back here, the only shop that taste near to that country so far that I have tried is Waroeng Penyet and Ole Ole Bali but now, there is another restaurant called Little Warong Jakarta that newly open about a month ago that cater authentic Jakarta food that more towards Javanese.

[no longer in operation]

Jakarta

The restaurant is located nearby KFC and it wasn’t hard to find afterall..

Jakarta (2)

The whole place was decorated in more like a old classic kopitiam style as according to Remus, most of the shop that operate good food is have something similiar to this kind of ambiance. The wall are covered with many pictures of Jakarta from olden to modern days.

Some indonesian snacks.

Being a guy from Penang, truly I have not really discover much about Penang food until CK bring the rest of us to a few places and indeed only understand that actually Penang has a lot of good food to offer. The first stop of my last holiday was to Beach Street whereby I used to pass here most of the time and did not even realize that, this small coffee shop has great food to offer that just located directly infront of the fire station.

Kam Ah

The shop start their business quite early and while we were there was already around 11something an it was full house but our luck was there on that day, manage to spot a very last table in that shop.

Kam Ah (2)

What was highly recommended by CK was this particular ‘Nutmeg Drink’ which is the signature drink of the shop. The drink was blended nutmeg purely added with asam boi and water added up the whole cup. I cant really take the flavor of nutmeg because of the taste but in this coffee shop, I just drank 2 glass. Very refreshing and thirst quencher that suits the hot weather in this area. RM 2.50

Kam Ah (3)

While I was seated down, and I notice this beef noodle seriously enjoying brisk business, non stop the customer pouring in, dining in and ta pauz.

Kam Ah (4)

You will never see a hawker owner which cooks till so happy yet passionate on what they do every day yet very friendly to their customer.

Kam Ah (5)

Here am I enjoying my well prepared beef noodle for my breakfast.

Kam Ah (6)

The taste of the soup base is quite mild yet suiting to most people who dislike strong flavor but I just love my bowl that filled with soft koey teow noodle and mee yet with most of the beef spare parts (tender beef slice, softly braised cow stomach and beef balls) RM 7 for a small bowl which is enough for me.

What CK told me was, if you want a strong aromatic flavour which I like it alot should go after 12.30pm which most of the beef was already soak into the soup that makes the soup base stronger taste. Best time to go around 1.00-1.30pm.

Kam Ah (7)

Another stall that must not miss which is the ‘Fried Oyster’.

Kam Ah (8)
Frying the base of the egg in the hot plate.

Kam Ah (9)

We had to plate, we started on with the ‘Crispy Fried Oyster’. Crispy on all the edge of the egg yet we just enjoying the crunch inside our mouth yet enjoying every piece of the oyster, dipping in with the chili sauce given just add on the extra taste. We enjoy bite of it.

Kam Ah (10)

Next plate to introduce was the original ‘Fried Oyster’ soft version a bit jelly’ish. My first encounter was this plate then only later found out that I love the crispy version more. RM5

Surely it was a good experience for breakfast yet I will come again around lunch time to try on their thicker version of soup base but the parking in the area is a pain in the ass. Have to park whenever you see a spot and walk over. Thanks to CK for bringing me and BBO to this place.

I have always miss the language of Thai with their greetings. Sounds so lovely. How nice if you can hear people speak Thai language in a restaurant but for us Thai food had always been one of our local favourites. Who can deny more than a very nice good thai food without travelling far? I would have to say that a double celebration that had made me expose to this great thai authentic restaurant around Leisure Mall area.

I might have pass around that area a couple of times, only this event make me realise on it as infront of the shop there is a a few malay stalls that overshadow the restaurant but it did not stop the locals going to this restaurant.

Ah Roy Thai

A warm and classic thai restaurant that with simple decoration of thai umbrellas and the origin chef with great experience that being the reason of the good food.

The leave is freshly plug and carefully choose by the owner. That is the secret of this dish. Alot of people will be quite disappointed if they find this item sold out or do not have on that day.

Ah Roy Thai (6)

I forgot what is the name of this dish already but its like Durian. You either love it or hate it but as for me I find it not bad as the taste is quite spicy that can nearly chocked my throat yet the sourness is to the extend will mild out the spiciness.

Ah Roy Thai (10)

If spiciness is something you cannot withstand then ‘Green Curry Chicken ????’ would be a good choice. Very mild in taste yet a bowl of rice is the best companion. (S)RM15 (B)RM25

Ah Roy Thai (14)

‘Steam Fish In Thai Style ????'(Seasonal Price)No fishy smell and soft fish meat show’s the sign of freshness level is there and the soup steam base of the fish is classic authentic thai taste, sour level is high and its just good.

It has been a while that I last meet my buddy Andy, one of my crazy buddies when we were studying in Australia back in those days. Have not heard from this siau kia for quite a while till 2 weeks ago, got a sms from him saying that he is opening a new restaurant. I was like wow..he is progressing liau..

How I get to know this siau kia..? Get to know this crazy guy through my housemate. One thing that I really respect him was how he supported himself all the way from paying his own tuition fees, living expenses till he bought his own car. He studies engineering back in those days but work as a assistant chef as part time. When we on form, we would ask him cook for us and we assist as he really do cook good food. Our quote on that time was play hard never study hard! Lol~

We came back to Malaysia for good 3 years ago, and he decided to open a small restaurant shop when he came back. I still remember what he told me about his plan when he ventures into this industry and now he is slowly growing his empire and walking towards his dreams. His very first shop is still located at Megamall, Butterworth, this is the second branch and the 3rd branch is opening soon at middle of this month at Kulim industrial park same row as Secret Recepi there.

Now, his 2nd new restaurant is located strategically in Sunway Carnival that I would say one of a inn mall at Butterworth. In Penang, people are always hunting for something cheap and nice and being a lot of franchises available out in the market like O-Town, Kopitiam, Papa Rich yet I must say that, the food quality not only match the competitor but taste much better compare to what available in those shops. With the price tag charge on his food, what could you ask for more but only to enjoy.

With his own idea and design interior had created a great combination of ambiance and the food style which he is serving in the shop.

A wide range of selection available. If you find that Locals doesnt suit your taste bud then you can go for Western. If you too feel that is not good enough, Japanese choices are available too.

In this menu, the siau kia mention that its only 40% of the range that what he had in mind and we got a bit shock after hearing it but yet excited with the wide variety going to be available. Siau..its already so many choice available its like will take you half a month to try every food individually. His food range in this shop are the favourites based on customers favourite and feedback with improvise of taste that what he had done on his old shop.

We start off with a wide range of drinks with his recommendation that would be peoples favorite. ‘Fresh Carrot-Orange’ (RM3.50), ‘Mango Smoothies’ (RM5.50), ‘Wheatgrass Smoothies’ (RM5.50), ‘Peppermint Mocha’ (RM7.80), ‘Blueberry Chocolate’ (RM7.80), ‘Hazelnut Latte’ (RM7.80), ‘Almond Latte’ (RM7.80), and ‘Tiramisu’ (RM7.80). My personal favorite are Wheatgrass Smoothies, Blueberry Chocolate and Hazelnut Latte.

‘Honey Lime Ice’ RM3.80 looks like a hit drink in the shop. I ask him why use lime because lemon finish he replace that with Lime. Something new to us.

When this place was serve all eyes was on this plate and it was past to Ck that side and the aroma of the fried travels. Look so delicious whereby if you did not eat this its a sin. ‘Honey Pepper Roast Chicken Drumlet’ The request were, fast fast take picture we cannot tahan and want to eat this. RM6.90 yet I was thinking it sure would be nice to be accompany by a bottle of beer.

‘Spaghetti Chicken Bolognese’ is something that is very simple yet I enjoy it very much. RM6.90

It has beena while since I last ate this, but yet, this is good with strong taste of cheeze which doesnt over power the taste of tomato and chicken. ‘C’heesy Chicken Lasagna’ RM9.90.

Not only available at Murni but has Penang version too. ‘Mushroom Chicken Chop with Garlic Butter Rice’ RM9.90
I have never thought that ‘Sweet & Spicy Fish Bento’ with a bit of Asian taste could taste so nice. Well fried on the outer layer with the fish meat is soft in the inside just goes amazingly well with the sauce. RM8.50
I love this very much, with the taste of japanese soy sauce yet with the taste of onion and the egg was not cook too dry is just too good to resist. ‘Unagi Fried Egg Rice’ RM12.90,
Fragrance rice filled with some ‘santan’ flavor is something you are looking for ”Nasi Lemak Curry Chicken’ (RM7-90)

If you dislike santan then something with home made chili and well fried anchovis with onion and peanuts comes with the gravy that is ‘Nasi Lemak Rendang Chicken’ is something you are looking for. RM7.90

Fresh big prawns cook with aromatic homemade sambal just makes your taste bud dance and ask for more. ‘Udang Sambal Rice’ RM7.90

If you are craving for ‘Ipoh Chicken Slice Noodle’ it is quite okay, no complain but still Ipoh is the best. RM6.90

If you are a big fan of tomyam, this is one of the dish ‘Seafood Tomyam Soup’ that you must not miss. Taste to perfection that well balance sour and spiness at the right level is something you could not ask for more. RM8.50.

It might look normal for ‘Capsicum Prawn Fried Rice’ filled with wok hei yet home made sambal is add in the extra kick in it. We did ask for more of it. RM7.90

Besides of soup version they definately do have ‘Tomyam Seafood Fried Noodle’ RM8.50 its a similiar version to the soup taste, yet of course I prefer very much on the soup version.
‘Dry Curry Stir Fried Chicken Rice aka Kam Hiong Chicken’ Very fragrance and filled stir fried to the right condition, yet we felt that it would taste even better with seafood like sotongz or ikan pari. RM6.90
When you are sick, something mild in taste yet smooth for your taste bud, ‘Seafood Mushroom Porridge’ is the right choice. Filled with the sweetness of the seafood taste yet its like ‘chuk’ I could not resist it but its a bit salty in the end of your first few mouth. RM7.90
Many thanks to CK for helping me to arrange Penang Blogger’s to attend on this event and of course thanks to my buddy Andy for hosting us. Indeed it I was happy that manage to know some of the food bloggers from Penang that are Lingzie, Chris Lai, Mary Teo, Alan and Amanda, NKOTB
With most of the food are up on the stardard with the cheap pricing, a shop that I would highly recommend. One of the latest news I got from him was yesterday he told me that, there is one Malaysia artist had dine at his place which I have no idea also. I ask my friend and they said its quite a local celebrity from a radio station.

After very disappointed lunch and still hungry cuz did not finish the meal and thought of having desert here, again as alot of times I passby saw quite alot of ppl and the food they offer seems good.
The food stall is mange by 2-3 auntie, thought that ppl around that age would cook good food. As I look around alot of ppl are eating the Nasi Lemak which I think is their signature food. Judging from the Nasi Lemak it is a very plain, just with egg, nuts, anchovies and sambal. Do not look tempting to me.

This is the look of the stall.

From the picture of the ‘Tong Sui’ it sure look very nice and so to be happened that on that day itself I forgot to walk over to see the quality of the ‘Tong Sui’ as you can peek at the counter where they warm it with rice cooker.

This is what I order Yi Mai Fu Chuk (front) and ‘Black Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk’(back)

To my dismay, I was like so watery till ike drinking water. Do Not look like tong sui at all! The ingredient that they gave in there is like 1/8 of the bowl the rest is water. Too little. The taste totally gone..no sweetness or the taste of fu chuk or bali. Hopeless drink. I only manage to drink 3 sip.

This is the ‘Black Glutinous Rice with Coconut Milk’. By looking at the picture will know that it is a bad 1. I have never seen such tong sui before. Not sticky, the coconut milk like mix with water as the colour of it is so pale.

The Bak Chang’ also not nice, it is dry, full with nuts and abit tasteless. Quite expensive for noting much in a chang. Only nuts, salted egg yolk and mushroom.
Total for the 3 item is RM10 which is WTF!!! with the quality they are serving. Just not my lunch day. Eat every thing also tasteless and down loh~~~
Just wondering, the food is so not nice, why is it still so many people?

Revisit Sushi Zenmai again. Was with my friend that she thought of wanted to go on diet, then I mention Japanese food as good for girls on diet, less oil. Lol~ So went there and the best part was did not need to Que up as I was there around 3.30pm on weekdays..Lol~
This is what my friend ordered Kani Avocado Salad’. To me when I saw it I was like ‘yeeewwwww avocado, hate it!!! so soft as in it can just imagine my friend vomiting the things out from their mouth~ yucks!!!’ but do not underestimate this, with the special don know what dressing down on the salad, you will just race to the finish as 1 bowl of dressing not enough, asked for another 1. RM 12.80 for the lovely salad
Me on my diet too, so decided to order ‘Curry Udon Chicken’. Wow, this is the first time I had a nice curry chicken udon, the feeling is just like what I ate back in those days when I was in melb at one of the lunch box restaurant at Swanston Street nearby RMIT. The gravy is nice, a bit thick, sweet and curry powder taste. Some ppl might not like it but to mee its very nice. RM10.80 for this udon.
This 2 are my favourite’s which is ‘Salmon Mentai and Aburi Hotate. Once you try you will fall in love with it. RM 6 each.
Overall, still recommended this restaurant as the service is prompt and good food but I still think that the 1 in One-U taste better.
