When comes to Chinese New Year, what is there extra? One thing of course there would be extra ang pau’s as we only take once a year. If its not enough then head down to Extra Super Tanker at Damansara Kim for extra umph on their food.
I can only say that I discover this restaurant very recently with influence of Pureglutton and Ken. They are so frequent that often saying how good that this restaurant is and its a must come, till last year I follow them for a special menu ordering that end up paying RM135 each per pax. I must say its one of a unique meal and very satisfying, that worth every penny of it.
Till then, we are back again to kick on their Chinese New Year Menu.
This restaurant is actually no stranger to many business or corporate company and families. Most of them are regular here.
Yee Sang with White Bait
Fried to crips and the ingredients use are very fresh. Compare to a few yee sang that I had, its pretty colourful but not this because none of the shredded vegetables was dyed. Toss and toss higher for good health and prosperity. White bait are fried to crispy that I just keep picking it up to munch without added in.

Many of my divers friend are against on eating Shark Fins and it had begin to take effect on some restaurant that comes out with options. This is definately a clever creation is Mandarin’s Birds Nest with Fresh Crabmeat Soup as a alternative choice. The soup is thick like sharkfin, and fresh crab meat that is prepare daily that enhance the soup taste with bird nest make it taste like shark fin. – Recommended~

Iceland Turbot in 2 Styles @ RM12.80/100g and the average size of the fish ranges from 1 to 1.3kg.
Turbot fish is a rare fish to have in restaurant. Those of you have not tried would want to give it a try. Flown all the way from Iceland that makes the fish meat texture different. Prepare in 2 styles that the fish meat were carefully slice with the fish bone are all left behind and deep fried. Then can just peel it off and eat it like cracker. Cracking sound is all over the table and it was gone within seconds.
What happen to the fish slice as it ended up stir fried with erringgi mushrooms and fungus. Fish meat are very soft and perfectly fried along. Sweetness of the meat is there.
Those who love yam, then Yam Treasure Trove @ RM48 – Small & RM68 – Large – is a dish you shall not miss. This dish indicates “overflowing prosperity” and in Cantonese it means (“Poon Moon Put Moon”!). Love the mash yam that fried to crispy on outside and super soft on the yam cook along with crunchy vegetable and nuts.
I have eaten so many sea cucumber and I must say this is the biggest I have come across so far. Like how the chef do it by cutting the sea cucumber into half and pile up all the vegetable on top with fresh chewy scallops . Really suits the meaning of “Abundance from the Ocean” sailing all the way from Philippines. Imported sea cucumber definately wont come cheap especially seasons of Chinese New Year.
Tiger Prawns with Chef’s Special Sauce (“Hee Hah Tai Siu”). Love this sauce as its slightly spicy salty end. To pair with rice is the way to go . . RM10/100g and the minimum order is 300g
To me, super star of the night is this Braised Mutton in Claypot… that means “Hei Hei Yeong Yeong” (in Cantonese). Lamb were carefully chop into right small sizes with little bones along. Skin are quite thick and braised with wood fungus together with herbs and spices to cover the taste of lamb that many people do not like. Still the taste and smell of it is pretty obvious as I love it..
RM80 for a big pot of 12 pieces mutton that enough to feed a table of 10 pax
Salted fermented soy bean (“fu yue”) dip was served with the dish. This is to slightly cover the lamb taste and the chef insist we must dip along. Perfect in taste.
Lap Mei Fan @ RM RM70 for 4-6 pax and RM95 for 8-12 pax.
Serve separately with pipping hot claypot then add on all the ingredient onto the pot and stir it.
After stir the ingredient of sliced Chinese sausages, waxed duck, waxed pork and liver sausages blend with slightly burnt taste of the rice, that make the taste even better.
When comes to chinese desert, this takes up alot of effort that first clean the pear out then add in ingredients and double boil it. This is Double-boiled Snow Pear with Hasma

After Chinese New Year, love birds would be in hunt to bring their the other half to dine in a nice restaurant to celebrate this lovely remarkable day.
Of course Nagomi do have their very own style Valentine’s Dinner Bento @ RM 99++ served for one pax, that start to be available on 11th Feb-14th Feb. Its a big bento set.
Suzuki Senbei (Home-made Seabass Crispy Cracker) fried to crips, that squeeze with lime on top to add in extra kick of the flavour and I was asking Macky to give me his portion and he said I wish… a good, companion with beer.
Rose Shape Sashimi (Combination of Salmon & Tuna Sashimi topping with Tobiko) that is served thick in size and very fresh. Add on with a bit wasabi, is just salivating.
Love Sushi Roll (Love Shape Sushi with Strawberry & Avocado), I like the texture of the rice which is just perfect with a slice of mini cheeze and strawberry is something unique in taste that I have try. A good combination for Valentine’s.
King Prawn with White Sauce (Grilled King Prawn with White Sauce), the prawn meat texture is solid that shows sign of freshness and grill then burn with white sauce is savoury.
What we feel that the star of the night is this very healthy meal, miso topping with Soba Soft Shell Crab Salada (Soft Shell Crab Salada serve with Buckwheat Noodle)
You have to pour the whole sauce onto of the soba then mix it around, eat it, and all of us are looking at each other’s portion hoping that the others wont finish it. The miso dressing is really really good, that I think its one of the best soba I had so far.
To end with something sweet, served with Chocolate Cheese Brownie.
As you see the expression of Naomi after finishing the whole Lover’s Bento herself, she is speechless when saw this big piece of brownie. Its not too sweet and I wish it would have been even more perfect if this brownie can top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
At the end of the meal, we were all very satisfied with the bento box and for person to finish a Lover’s bento its really huge, we were talking about for a couple can consider get 1 lovers bento and 1 Yee Sang for 2 then lou and wish for each other, but if you really love Jap food, the Lover’s Bento is definately a good recommendation by me. ..

Just would like to rant something over this post regarding on the latest news by announcing Malaysia High Job Bar would set at RM3,000 is reasonable for ‘Klang Valley Residence’. (click here to read the article)
According to the article, high income means we are not able to save money for future, which are total means by surviving. When I read the news last night, I got shock when they set it at this figure. Definitely could not be deny by RM3,000 at east cost like Kelantan or Terrenganu is big and would consider Big income in those states which I totally agree. What bout RM3,000 in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang would be sufficient for you as a developing country?
To other races to buy a house with RM 3,000 is not in mind to afford to get a house in Klang Valley area. Let’s Break down and see.
RM500 Personal insurance, RM 500 for Car Installment + Insurance, RM700 for expenses (meals + household usage), and with balance of RM 1300 you calculate yourself, if you buy a house? If you have family?
What I understand as High Income means, we are able to save money for our future with good health with family, able to travel 2 years once, provide house and car yet to cope with any sudden medical expenses from our parents especially.
As for 2011, I do notice that:
1) Petrol price Ron 97 and 95 had increase
2) Cooking oil shortage
3) Daily usage like sugar and some other item increase in price.
Especially with 1% gov tax had started not many people had feel the pain cuz its just 1% but you do think about it, what ever we pay on our monthly bills, gov tax on fast food outlets, restaurants, entertainment anything with GST are increase by 1%. You calculate yourself how much you have to pay extra.
I totally agree that Malaysia with the concept of shopping paradise, with 1% GST in place, do you feel that clothes had gotten cheaper or still maintain? Car certainly does on hybrid and some other model type, branded goods like LV, Gucci or others. Just want to ask, how many of you do shop very often? How many of you do change your car many times?
Do bare in mind that, with high income of RM3,000 you definitely cannot enjoy those branded items because for surviving but you have to pay GST 1% extra every month or a few times when you dine outside and just when can you afford to buy branded that had gone down in prices?
Well, year 2010 I did travel a lot in a few countries and I Just want to take some example out of it especially on these 3 countries:
1) Taiwan: is famous for street food, snacks, shopping and sightseeing. One thing I notice on their country is what they earn as their salary for example RM2,000, they are able to buy a lot of things and shower goods for themselves like shopping there is cheap, alcohol there is cheap with international brands (as low as RM2.50 per can and big cans like Heinaken RM6), house is expensive but car is cheap and public transportation is superb.
2) Bandung: which I have just travel there 2 weeks ago and I asked my friends a lot of things, like living and expenses there, house is average in Bandung, a Honda Jazz with imported from Japan only cost RM70,000, alcohol (1 tower RM47) and ciggis are cheap with a pack cost RM3-RM4.50. Shopping and Spa (RM40 for 2 hours) is definitely cheap. Of course salary to work in offices there start around RM1,100 for a fresh grads but its still very reasonable yet affordable.
3) Australia (Melbourne), When I was studying there I do work part time, with AUD15 per hour as a storekeeper. AUD 15 per hour enable me to cover my lunch AUD 7 and dinner AUD 7 and the rest would be my savings or for some other expenses. Branded there is cheap too, I can JUST work my ass out for 1 week, save around AUD500 I can buy a Gucci or LV already. I purchase my 2nd hand car wira look alike with 11 years old cost around AUD 3,000. House in Melbourne is definitely not cheap average AUD400,000 for one house with quite a big garden (in Malaysia consider bungalow). Their National car is cheap compare to other big brands like Honda or Toyota.
As for Malaysia, everything increase in price, and you just go ask around 10 years ago, what is the salary for a fresh grad and today what is the salary for a fresh grad? Then how much is the food and house cost for 10 years back and today? I felt that, everything had increase in Malaysia, but our SALARY still maintain. Food is not cheap nowdays, alcohol, cigarettes, property, car is definitely not cheap.
What I am trying to say is that, other countries have some of their commodities cheap and some expensive but I feel that Malaysia, everything is expensive.
Lets Just hope the government would do something good for the people of Malaysia.

One thing that I am definately proud off is the HSBC research that on 2050 Malaysia would be in world top 30 developing nation, I guess that is when perfect scenariohappens . . .
