Usually to hunt for nice food, their location is always hidden some where which usually do not appear in google map. Another restaurant that turn out to be a hit among office worker in the area is this new Songket Restaurant which just started operation few months back. They are situated in a busy road of Jalan Yap Kwan Seng that is directly located behind Tony Romas.

One good thing about this restaurant is that they have alot of free parking around the area and once park its just few steps away.

songket (2)

By the term Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. It is hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads. The metallic threads stand out against the background cloth to create a shimmering effect. In the weaving process the metallic threads are inserted in between the silk or cotton weft (latitudinal) threads. (source from wikipedia)

Penang is always known for its hawker food and around Ayer Itam area which is well know for their morning market for all the neighbors to buy fresh ingredient to cook or even supplies to restaurant which makes them one of the big market in Penang. I did write about a famous elderly selling classic curry mee in the  market, click here.  Around the area there are many hawker which are famous tag along the morning market, one which is in particular was one of my friends favourite Kueh Chap stall is in this Wah Meng Kopitiam that host also variety of food.

kuih chiap (1)

Do not have a proper sign for it as the main entrance are all covered up with busy hawker stalls.

kuih chiap (2)

instead the signage are hidden inside ..  which is next to a TOTO store. .

kuih chiap (3)

In the early morning, this coffee shop is pack with lots of people..not to mention during public holidays or long weekend.

kuih chiap (5)

Then they have this nasi kandar stall infront of them . .

kuih chiap (4)

kuih chiap (6)

selling Roti Canai next to it which is done fresh while ordering . .

kuih chiap (7)

kuih chiap (8)

and here comes my thin fluffy roti Kosong as its not bad just that the curry gravy is quite watery which turns it to be quite disappointing for RM 0.70 per piece, no complain.

kuih chiap (9)

Then I saw this uncle stall for Char Koey Teow frying non stop, yet I have tried. . .

kuih chiap (10)

and Char Kueh Kak also . .

kuih chiap (11)

This is the famous Kueh Chap which my friend is talking about and we waited for bout 25 minutes for it ..

kuih chiap (12)

It is one of my favorite and its very hard to find in KL.

kuih chiap (13)

and according to some explanation that I found over Google, this is actually a Teochew dish that started off during Ming Dynasty, which previously known as Ding Bian Cuo (鼎邊挫) or Ding Bian Hu (鼎邊糊), being translated as Wok-side Cooking or Wok-side Frying. Read more at javewu.

Kueh Chap is a word from Hokkien language and can be found in a few states like Penang, Johor, Kuching and Singapore. In Penang we utilise the whole duck including the spare parts of it like innards, blood, intestine to add it in and some other states they used pork.

kuih chiap (14)

This is the classic bowl of Penang version Kueh Chap ((flat broad rice sheets))

kuih chiap (15)

kuih chiap (16)

which is filled with kueh a texture similar like flat big koey teow type to cook along and add in all the duck parts in it like braised duck meat, bean curd, congealed blood, hard-boiled egg and innards of intestines and liver. Then top with fried garlic oil on top to bring the extra kick in it. The soup is black in colour that its boil along with the duck and aromatic, yet I find it a bit salty after finishing the whole bowl, i still prefer mine  to have it in thicker soup base which is located at Kimberly street that I didnt blog bout it, then overall it is still quite satisfying to have it in early morning.

Well, since I am back to Penang for the weekend and decided to join the latest hype in Penang is about this newly open Charlie Brown Café which is first in Malaysia at Straits Quay which will become one of the hottest spot for F n B area. I am quite surprise that they choose to open in Penang first instead of Kuala Lumpur.

When I see many people check in this outlet, I have no clue who is Charlie Brown until I saw Snoopy in it. I guess we do know who is Snoopy since when we are a kid then I google bout it and only realise that Snoopy is actually a pet of Charlie Brown, well, till date I still called it Snoopy Café which I felt more suitable for it. 😀

Charlie Brown (1)

it was Monday for public holiday, many people throng Straits Quey for a family gateway or tea with friends.

Charlie Brown (2)

Charlie Brown Cafe which is easily to be found as they are located directly above Papa Rich as once you take the escalator up here, you will see alot of flashes and once you are up you will be greet with lots of Charlie Brown n gang on the wall . .

Charlie Brown (3)

Charlie Brown (4)

Charlie Brown (5)

The whole place is decorated with Charlie Brown n gang that many pictures you can be seen right like the comic feel.

Charlie Brown (6)

Big and spacious place for you to hang out.

Charlie Brown (7)

and there are 2 counters for you to line up to place your order, as they do not have menu on the wall something like Starbucks, their menu is a booklet menu place right beside the cashier, while waiting you can just pick it up and look at it where by it will cause the long queue because not many people notice on that.

It was quite okay, as in the chiller, they offer cakes of the day, and cashier was very friendly to introduce what they have for the day and what is their signature, I would say, she over promote the cakes but good efford. 🙂

Charlie Brown (8)

You can be also seated right at this sofa area that can enjoy the view of the harbour  .. . .

If you do plan to by any souvenir, they have this souvenir shop that you are able to purchase their product directly.

and if you do plan to have little kids birthday party, I guess this function room will be the right choice to host on it, and also can do discussion . ..

Charlie Brown (18)

Charlie Brown (19)

Charlie Brown (20)

Moost of their table are decorated with different Charlie Brown Character.

Charlie Brown (21)

One of the most interesting thing is, I love their menu, as they do it in Comic Style. . .

Charlie Brown (22)

and their cake section, with all the colourful design of cake that filled with individual character.

Charlie Brown (23)

So what I say the cashier promote this Blueberry Cheese Cake as I find it very tempting also, as honestly, its just the look only. The cake tasted so so with too much sponge cake in it and the cheese taste is not impressive yet the taste of it was spoilt by the solid glitter candy which is too sweet that overpower the taste of the cheeze and blueberry. RM 9 (if not mistaken)

Charlie Brown (24)

Charlie Brown (25)

Here comes my ‘Mocha’ that turns out to be not bad, as I didnt expect it to be good as usually this kind of cafe do not serve good coffee. Just that the milk is burn, that makes it too hot to sip . . RM 11 ( if not mistaken)

Charlie Brown (26)

This is one of their signature drink, as I cannot really remember the name of it as its more like a Oreo drink, I would say I have tasted much better ones. RM13.90 (If not mistaken)

Well, I do heard feedback from my friend saying that their food did not impress and I would say that, if you love camwhore and taking pictures, this would definately a place to come by and enjoy. For Food and drinks, I have no comment as with the price I am paying, I certainly can find much better one.

– I forgot to take my receipt and price n name is just base on my agak agak memory .. .

Few years back I have always wanted to go Jay Chou’s concert that I a nice feedback from my friend that they had a superb time at his concert. Then I got to know he is coming to Malaysia and I went to google about what’s Jay Chou The New Era 2011 World Tour is about. To my suprise the result that happen in China, Hong Kong and Singapore, the tickets for all shows were just snap up within couple of hours.

Then I further read that, this time, its he to celebrate his decade in music industy and he is spending alot on stage and this time he is going 3-D and I think came into my mind was, movie 3-D wear 3-D glasses I know but concert 3-D means we have to wear glasses ah? well, just don care and posted on Twitter and Facebook who is interested to go with me, and asked my brother, he is in too, and some of my friends. We manage to purchase the ticket early Dec Last year when the ticket was launch as I know online ticketing will be jammed like Air Asia website on zero fair so asked my brother to purchase at Speedy outlet which just takes a while.

The actual place I want to buy was Red L7 or L6 mana tau got snap up like hot cake and there written 5 star seatings so aim that area and they ended up getting U6 which I was little dissapointed on upper area as I know in concert have to be at lower tier to enjoy. Honestly, in the layout seating mention 5 star, it was totally the SUCKIEST location ever as we were blog by 2 story high speaker that block throughout 1/3 of the stage view that we cant really see the effect. There goes the recommended 5STAR . . . we were so blardy dissapointed!

Went there early to see what is offering outside the stadium, mostly his merchandise and DVD world tour ..  Nothing special and even Jay Chou’s t-shirt is selling at Rm80 .. . My best friend Pak, me and my brother~

Pak and Kelly came all the way from Penang for this concert. .

This is how bare and all black looks like stage before the start of the performance. Damm… the rock zone sure is the ideal place to be in a concert but it was too expensive already for RM700++ a ticket to be in there.. . ..

Then before the official event start, there are a few local artist was invited to perform and we have no idea who was it. cuz it our view was block . ..

This is the first time I came to a concert, a really concert ambiance with so many neon lightss shinning in the stadium, like what we see in most of the concert at Hong Kong in the MTV. . .

After our quick dinner at Maha House as I mention we do have a few places to visit for the night, then next we head to Kampung Gajah, bandung to take a quick tour as this place already close for the day, as my friend recommend one of the places to visit during day time. Then I google up what this place have to offer as it is more like a friends and family gateway to enjoy their activities such as Flying Fox, Swing and Swing, and of course some restaurants. For more info can check out at their website : KampungGajah

daun

Just spend a few minutes to take a quick snapshot then we heading to Kampung Daun which is Highly Recommended by me if you do visit Bandung. A place that filled with very classic traditional filled with their culture ambiance that located right in the middle of the forest that had transform to a perfect dining area.

a big New Year Eve party was organised here and heard my friend said that it was a blast.

daun (4)

All the dining area are build in their very own unique way and it is really a huge place to walk around. You would like to dine in a very homey ‘Kampung Style’ dining, then can go for this kind of ambiance, that seated with a table of 6 and if you have more pax they have bigger place.

daun (5)

As we walked further up at this chill and fresh environment with the sound of waterfall flowing, we feel so fresh and relax. . .

daun (6)

Another type of dining area which is more casual that be seated on a ‘rattan’ style with pillow to support. . .

daun (7)

With the natural water flowing from the top of the hill, they had make it as the heart of the restaurant as hut or dining area can hear the sound of it. . .

daun (8)

Then we choose a hut that filled with mat paved on the wooden flank, then just lye on the cushion enjoy chatting and the ambiance of it, with the group of new friends. . . .

daun (11)

daun (9)

daun (10)

Ginger Cinnamon Tea. . . .

After spending 1 hour at this cozy place, its time for us to get even more relax as we were brought to this Hot Natural Hot Spring at 11pm at night and the weather around the area is around 21degree which is just perfect to dip in this warm pool.

There are 2 pool which is 1 about room temperature and the other pool which is warmer.

Do bear in mind that to come to this place, will need to bring your own clothing, trunks or swimwear, and of course towel, if not to purchase there, its extremely expensive.

daun (15)

Soaking ourselves for quite a while and on the way heading back, they introduce us a place which is nice for satay especially the meat is ‘Rabbit’

daun (16)

daun (17)

daun (18)

daun (20)

I have always miss the satay in Indonesia as their peanut sauce is a bit different that do add in some of sweet soy sauce and their own spicy sauce. So sad that they do not served Rabbit meat that day as it was their signature if not mistaken, then ordered mutton and beef. It was good too, as it was just bbq as it is.

daun (21)

daun (22)

Their ‘Jagung Bakar’ is always better then our local Malaysia version as they do season it a while in milk + their own sauce then spread with heavy butter and leave it a while there till the butter soak into the corn till its very aromatic .

It was quite a tiring journey as in a short span from 7.30pm – 1.30am we went to 4 places and the journey in between is not near. . .

As one of the latest crave for a foodie is hunting for Non-Halal food which is mushrooming especially on pork burger or for to hunt for a satisfied porkie meal. It was on a trip recently to celebrate Karen’s Birthday and again I was put in charge for hunting ground, a suggestion came up by Kebbie mentioning Sanbanto then I went to Google it up that they do have good reviews from bloggers and decided to go there. Then a restriction came up that it takes time to travel there as its in SS2. Then after a while I found out that they have a branch now in Puchong at IOI Boulevard that is called the Pork Place which is one of a upcoming center for FnB heaven that I think its very similar to Sunway Giza.

.

i  just love this picture with 2 cute piglet on the tree. . .. Do not be suprise that there are alot of painting of piggy on the wall.
