Heee, as some of you might have seen my previous post on Famous Yew Char Kuih & Ham Chi Peng that is located next to them, is actually related as I went on the same day. Lets head to next door which is the famous Zi Wei Yuen Steamboat Restaurant which is very famous in Raja Uda. One of the reason they are famous is because of the soup base, which is the only super important ingredient for steamboat.

zi wei (1)

I have been talking with my family and friends to come and dine at this restaurant for like bout 1 n half years already till date it was all wrong timing and since this round I am quite free and my friends love this restaurant, the agreed without any hesitation since its their favorite also.

zi wei (2)

To make an efford here, it is highly advise to reach here before 7pm or after 9pm as during peak dinner hours, you have to fight with  many families to get a spot in the area as its super pack.

zi wei (3)

This is what I mean as those who are standing are hunting for a table, so you better disperse your family members or friends to get a spot.

zi wei (4)

We lazy to order what is in the menu therefore we go for their set dinner, my friends opted for the most expensive set RM220 that consist of at least 10-14 items if I am not mistaken.

All the hungry people are ready in action . .

zi wei (10)

One of the thing that they are famous for is their special signature Fish Head Steamboat that available in two version, with fried fish head or the steam type. We choose the steam type then another attraction is that their soup base is milky version that you cant really find that in Penang and mostly I would say its the KL version.

Not only that, they use charcoal steamboat version to make it more nice. I only have charcoal steamboat when I went back to my grandmother’s village at some where deep in mainland only get to enjoy it.

zi wei (11)

This is what happen when the pour everything inside and waiting for it to boil as charcoal takes time to make it cook.

Find that the soup base is aromatic and sweet, as you can taste that they really take something to boil it long time to make it there and milky version of soup just make it look interesting. As you refill the soup many times then the soup gets more salty towards the end and the base.

zi wei (13)

Another thing that best pair with the steamboat is their own homemade chili sauce, that dip along with the ingredient is just perfect.

After a while after the dinner most of us gets very thirsty and I guess that they have added on alot of MSG to make us drink lots of water after that. No doubt that the soup base is good that we drank alot of the soup and just need to drink alot of water hours later. 😀

Its pretty good and worth to try. . .

Last 2 weekend when got a bit long weekend holiday, my friend tag me along to a mini makan trip as they are on they way for their business trip and for me, its just more on pure eating~ 😀 . The town is call Pusing.

One of the business partner, introduce me to his small little hometown where by  a few streets away is his grandmother’s place. This small little town is call Pusing, which is located about 20 minutes drive from Ipoh town towards north. If you ask me where the hell am I at the moment, the only answer I can provide you is, I do not know!

Pusing (1)

Its on Monday and the streets here are pretty quiet, a very peaceful town that every one is very friendly. Actually this town is a little Hakka town that according to my friend 90% of them are Hakka. So for hakka speaking people, this will be your chance to shine~

Pusing (2)

If you are talking about to stay in the town, this is the only hotel available which is Pusing Hotel and by far the biggest too, with only 4 rooms available. If you do plan to stay here, book early! :p

Pusing (3)

Then he brought me to this shop that sells one of the local specialty that have no signboard like Ah Seng Kopitiam or watsoever, the only thing for you to recognize is this Blue Zink corner shop with fruit stall right at the front.

Pusing (4)

or directly opposite you can see this gate  . . .

Pusing (5)

This is the noodle that he is very keen on introducing me, as we are very far from heavy breakfast this morning or I would say a while ago, Its hard for me to finish this bowl by myself. If you guys know what is written in Mandarin, please help me translate.!

Pusing (6)

I ask the store owner what is their signature noodle, and they told me curry soup base is their best among neigbourhood. Well, give it a try then . .

Pusing (7)

Love the curry as its, very mild and light in flavor, right after taste is a bit spicy at the end whereby the coconut milk is not too milky yet the soup is aromatic with a bit pandan taste. Its totally different type of curry flavour I have tried so far and the best thing is according to my friend that the noodle is homemade by themselves that the texture taste a bit like laksa noodle and spaghetti, its very unique.

The best part does not only stop on the noodle, GUESS how much is this bowl of noodle? RM1.50 . . ( I was like haaaaaa ??!!! RM 1.50 where the hell can we get a meal in that kind of price.)

You will be surprise how cheap the food in this town is. Yet most of the stalls operate in this kopitiam are homecook style!

Pusing (8)

Another stall that the guy called Ah Chong highly recommend is his favourite Nyonya kuih stall.

Pusing (9)

There are 3 kuih stalls operate side by side that sells different type’s of kuih~

Pusing (10)

This uncle that sells a bit of nyonya kuih style which is highly recommended by my friend.

Pusing (11)

We bought everything in the stalls 2 pieces each that comes out in a 2 big bag and it cost us RM8.70 which our jaw drop again. This uncle made his kuih fresh daily and alot of his business are more on neighbourhood business.

I am definitely coming back for this uncle again as the kuih is good, aromatic and nice!

Pusing (12)

another stalls that selling other types of kuih~

Okay, now that’s the question . .. . HOW to come here right? I have no freaking idea but then if you can find PUSING Police Station then you can find this place easily as its just about a row of shop houses away~

If you are asking me, if you want some cheap nice food, PUSING town is one of the place to hunt for. I will sure be back for their food again if there is a chance and will ta pau a whole big bag of Kuih back to Penang or KL.

I have been reading a lot of status this morning, yeah, I know its hard to drag our ass to work since most of the people start to work today yet with very heavy Chinese New Year Mood and bombard with tons of work after a few days off, its kinda pain in the ass. Since now I am at Penang, let me start off with Penang Street Food first. Lebuh Kimberly hawker center had always been my all time favorite area to eat which I had been long time did not visit this place. Its a very cheap place to eat in.

Sua Tau Keh

It is usually pack with local crowds after 7.30pm. It is advisable to go early or if you would want to enjoy the local feel with standing and waiting for tables and manning your area then anytime would be good. Most of the hawkers here had been operating for more than 10 years already and its had been a signature area.

Sua Tau Keh (2)

Let’s start off with the street famous Char Koey Teow. In this stall, its famous that you can add on additional item, such as Mantis Prawn, Chinese Sausage, Duck egg or prawns. It is best that they uses charcoal to fried, the taste would be different.

Sua Tau Keh (3)

This is my plate of ‘Char Koey Teow add with Duck Egg and Mantis Prawn’. Perfectly fried, dried and a bit sticky yet with wok hei and duck egg build in different aroma in it, is something which I expect. RM5

Sua Tau Keh (4)

Next a stall which I would not miss is the ‘Tong Sui Stall’. Cost RM1-RM3.50

Sua Tau Keh (5)

‘Almond Soup Tong Sui’ is the signature of this stall. Not many people enjoy the taste of it but I have learn the fair taste, very thick in almond taste, not very watery yet add on with the yau char kuih, I can just still imagine the taste of it. Good for health as what I have been told by my grandmother when I was young.

Sua Tau Keh (6)

Next is the ‘Cham’ I always had too. Clear tasty non very sweet tong sui base that goes along very well after eating of so many street food.

Sua Tau Keh (7)

‘Red Bean Soup’ that had been boild to build up the aroma yet the bean is not soft and a bit solid as that is how the preserve the tasty’ness of it.

Sua Tau Keh (8)

Heading to next stall is the ‘Koay Teow Soup’, again as not only they sell only the noodle yet you can add on additional dish with their famous signature ‘Cham’ (consist of egg, chicken feet, pig intestine and taufu) or if you do not like som eof the item, you can just order randomly.

Sua Tau Keh (9)

‘Dry Koey Teow’ taste quite good, not very salty as expected yet the koey teow is silky smooth yet a bit oily make it taste good. RM3

Sua Tau Keh (19)

One of my favorite ‘Pig Intestine’, been boil and steam very very soft, yet very juicy when bite it as the watery home cook soup soy base had made it very aromatic.

Sua Tau Keh (10)

Another stall which is very famous with local folks is this stall that you must not miss. ‘Kuih Chap’ that serve with homemade kuih style as noodle base yet add in all the Duck spare part in it. Besides their famous signature, they also do serve porridge which is a top notch too.

Sua Tau Keh (11)

can add on this part if you like.

Sua Tau Keh (12)

This are all the ingrediants that going to add into the bowl.

Sua Tau Keh (13)

Here comes my very ‘Kuih Chap’ with all the duck spare part.

Sua Tau Keh (14)

With the home made kuih that replace noodle which is a must for ‘Kuih Chap’. I just miss this alot, very aromatic soup base that filled with duck and salty taste yet the meat of the duck is very soft, and my mouth watering meal. 1 bowl is enough to kill me off. Small RM5

Sua Tau Keh (15)

Another stall that I discover which is the ‘Belacan Fried Chicken’ which walk a bit further down from that 3 stalls.

Sua Tau Keh (16)

Sua Tau Keh (17)

Deep fried as very crispy on the edge, yet the chicken meat is very filled with belacan taste as I buy it hot from the wok.

Sua Tau Keh (18)

One of the thing I fell in love with this stall is the ‘Deep Fried Salted Fish Taufu’. Although its not similiar like ‘Chou Taufu’ but it something I love. Deep fried till the outer layer is solid yet when you bite on it, you can taste the softness of the taufu yet salted fish aroma is there and dip with the chili sauce given, is something I could not ask for. RM 2-RM 3 sell in 10 pieces.

This is one of my favorite Penang Street Food area. Recommended~
