I guess it was a random fate that connect me to Ming Art owner as I was doing Vlog at New World Park Food court to cover this famous Bangkok Lane Mee Goreng have move to new location. AS I was recording half way, he drop by to say hi and thought I look familiar and then he recall by me doing review on Mattress.

that is where we exchange card and told me to drop by his cafe in Gurney Paragon in later day. (this was over 4 months ago)

Gurney Paragon Mall

Here I am at his cafe in Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang. Quite a cozy cafe in this heritage building inside Gurney Paragon. A modern industrial cafe cross over with fine art gallery in Penang.

Ming art Cafe

I do not mind to come back here for afternoon chilling as it is quiet.

Gurney Paragon

This is by far my most unique combination of drinks for the evening. A great French wine and He then introduce me one of their cafe signature Latte with Pure 100% milk.

Latte with pure fresh milk

He share with me why the coffee float on top because on milk is 100% pure. Just drink first gulp before stir it. The taste is rather interesting and their bean is awesome. It was a great combination of pure milk and the layer of coffee with its milk combine very well. It just breaks down the layer of coffee and milk very prominent that you can enjoy it.

In this cafe he mention he do cater for alot of people who loves to come to his place for a glass of wine while enjoying arts which is available. That is why a small bottle.

french wine in penang

In this evening, I also learnt alot about wine and also difference in Premium crystal glass vs normal glass. He share with me his private crystal glass collection, the sound of it and how different the taste of a normal wine pour in 2 different glass.

Instantly, the RM900 premium crystal wine glass, SAME WINE but different taste. It is so prominent that the same wine pour into the premium wine glass taste so much better. It opens up the aroma of the wine and layer of taste. Makes it smoother too. ~interesting.

Ming art Fine Art

If you think facing cafe is boring, then face the art gallery. Right behind there is 2 hidden table which is for his exclusive guess that bought alot of the arts.

Ming art Paragon

there is alot version of arts from abstract, fine, hard brush, imagination, digital and many others which is available and I am surpise to see that alot of our local arts are being sold to foreign collators. He do share with me that actually there are alot of artist talanted artist from the North are all over the world making their names out there. Just that locally we do not know.

this is kinda sad.

On and off he do have event that brings Malaysia artist together especially working closely with a few communities Art in Malaysia for this. I am definitely in support of this.

Ming Art Gallery Paragon

Art and wine is like one of the best combination. Learn to see how a painter express their imagination or emotions. It is indeed very interesting. One of a art gallery in Penang worth to Explore.

This famous HaiDiLao hotpot is indeed spreading its wings in Malaysia very fast. With the latest addition to Gurney Paragon, Penang, It had created a huge buzz up in the north. Also making them one of the most famous mala hotpot in Penang.

Why is Haidilao so famous. For one simple reason. Service & Fresh ingredients!

Hai Di Lao (1)

People do come and queue as early as 11am, however we had heavy breakfast and my parents decided to drop by to check it out where hoping to get numbers for dinner. Instead the queue was not long, they decided to head inside to try luck.

Hai Di Lao (9)

Here are the 2 sessions available for you to queue to pick your number. morning session starts at 11am and night dinner starts queue at 4pm.

Hai Di Lao (2)

waiting number will keep updating and you will be called if you are around the area. Another way is to scan your wechat on the QRcode then you can walk around and monitor your number. 5 Numbers before your turn, head back to this waiting area.

Hai Di Lao (6)

While waiting for your table, you are being pampered with all kinds of snacks, fruits , Thong sui and drinks,

Their fresh pop corn is pretty good too.

The weird part of this manicure is you have to dine first then only head to this section to do it. I thought is while waiting in the queue you can do your manicure. Also they do have kids play area if your kids got grumpy or bored. It is also connected to the table on the dining table just in case you want to watch over your kids while eating.

We got our table quite fast, which is less than 30-35  minutes with 50 numbers ahead of us. We reach around 12pm. I guess lunch on Saturday was not that pack which is still not too bad. Upon seated, you will be given warm towel, a cover to protect your phone, a wet wipes to wipe your oily screen. Rock melon being serve along as well.

We order:

  1. Sichuan Malat (level 1) which you can upgrade if you want to add spicy. Those who can take spicy, direct go to level 3. Which taste much better.
  2. Tomato Soup (one of their signature)
  3. Curry Laksa (Malaysia edition only)
  4. Mushroom soup

Hai Di Lao famous dancing noodle which is a must order. (watch my video on see how he dance)

Hai Di Lao (26)

Hai Di Lao (27)

with my parents as they want to join the hype too. A tick for them and for those who are not used to eating Malat, Haidilao is certainly one of the best place to be.

Hai Di Lao (28)

After we are done at 2.30pm, these are all the crowd waiting for 4pm number session or dinner session onwards. This is kinda crazy and luckily we ate for lunch instead of night. In KL, average waiting time is 2-4 hours depending on branch. So good luck to the rest of you.

Overall Haidilao Malaysia is good for :

  1. entry level or beginners whom are not used to eat Malat or sichuan hotpot. To us who loves Malat, this place is totally out as there are much better hotpot place over this.
  2. Service, service and service – even though is quite top notch over I think Singapore Haidilao or Korea Haidilao is so much better.
  3. the most important is the price is not expensive if you compare to Singapore or Korea.

So for sichuan hotpot in Penang, you could consider this as one of the option. My experience in Singapore and Korea.

One of the latest landmark in Penang that open its door to public that had create quite a hype by some of my Penang friends is a new shopping mall, Gurney Paragon. Upon its build up, this mall is position as one of the high end shopping mall for Penangnites. As many malls also pretty much know with a few signature F&B and there are a few actually. Since I am back, I drag my Penang friend along that they have just went to this shop last weekend before me, and they were saying, its a High End tea. 😀

One of a big hype that I see over Instagram for a few posting is on their dessert is this new French-Japanese cafe & kitchen Miam Miam that named after the French expression ‘yum yum’.

Miam miam (1)

With its classic interior design that still maintain its flooring of this old building yet contemporary set of feeling infuse along that makes them lively cafe with a curious mix of flavours from savoury souffle to pasta.

I love their design of kitchen that certainly have the European feel and as for Cashier is a little island by itself.

Miam miam (6)

Miam miam (7)

Its a very simple 4 pages menu with everything is right into your face with picture illustration. Everything in there looks tempting and of course I do see what other people order. The food is predominantly French or European but with Japanese influence in each.

Miam miam (8)

Some of the food, are pretty unique.

Iced Matcha Latte @ RM 11.80

Miam miam (11)

Miam Miam (Hand Dripped) Special Blend Iced Coffee @ RM 9.80

Miam miam (12)

I love the presentation of this coffee that serve in a bronse mug and with a little milk & sugar syrup holder. It makes me feel that this little two thing is used by that cute animation Ratatouille. The so called special blend coffee is nothing to shout about.

Miam miam (13)

Mango Smoothie is blended well and with strong visible taste of mango and its not bad. @ RM 11.80

Miam miam (14)

Famous French Toast @ RM 16.80 – with homemade whipped cream & Maple Syrup

It seems that this is another famous item in the menu that, alot of people in the cafe is ordering it.   The baked toast prepare fresh and served in a pot, with whipped cream on top of it. A mini tea cup of maple syrup is placed beside the pot where is to be added upon.. The toast is done perfectly that its soft and fluffy yet aromatic with maple syrup after I pour it in. Best to eat while its still hot. Its not easy to make a nice one but they had made it perfect. – Recommended

Side note: there is no consistency in it as my friend came along with me on the her 3rd time, it taste very much different as when she had with me, this is the best so far.

Miam miam (16)

Classic Vanilla Souffle (Pot Baked) @ RM 16.80

Miam miam (15)

For this dessert, I have tried quite number of places and nothing had impress me till this outlet. This is where I saw alot people instagram on it on the best of they can get in the island and I must agree with most of them, it easily beats many of the available KL f&B outlets too.

Miam miam (17)

Its serve pippin hot as every pot is being prepare fresh. The texture of it is so light , smooth and airy that spoon easily poke thru till to bottom. Upon on each bite, taste of egg and light vanilla is pretty evident texture of it easily melts in mouth. Not many people know how to enjoy this dessert and its best advise to share. A recommended Item`

Miam miam (18)

Chocolate & Banana Souffle Pancake @ RM 19.80 is something different from their classic/original range, that is topped with a few cubes of banana and 2 chunk of chocolate with Ice cream. The souffle is pretty much different compare to the original ones as this taste more like a soft pancake yet the texture is still smooth.

No doubt that this place had made its impact to many Penangnites on its dessert range. If you do not mind to dig deeper into your purse, this place is a great hang out place. Two item that you must not miss is their signature Classic Vanilla Souffle & French Toast.
