Gyoza

Browsing

Instagram really had made friends connected more and I do follow a bunch of hungry goers and whenever they always eat, sure they will insta first. I guess now insta had become a term of it. Nevertheless I came accross Kelly’s Insta when she said she had one of the best ajitsuke tamago, along with comment in this ramen shop is worth trying, can be rated as one of the best Ramen in KL City or within Golden Triangle is this Marutama Ramen.

Since I am in KL and its rainy Sunday yesterday, will make it a pit stop then. Located on 1st floor in Farenheit 88 located this Ramen Shop hidden at the back corner. Manage to find it thru Foursquare (I guess app now pretty usefull).

Mafu (2)

With traditional Japanese dining ambiance.

Mafu (3)

I never have enough when comes to ramen add on. Will usually top up.

Mafu (4)

Price in the menu are pretty decent, not only that, I am keen to try how their chicken broth will taste like. Since most of my favourite came from is with pork bone or pork soup.

Mafu (5)

They are being generous with the ingredient with unlimited fried garlic. I just took one slice and eat it just like that, crispy and flavourful. Just perfect to be added onto the ramen.

Mafu (6)

I will as always try on Gyoza (餃子) for RM10. I would say that one of a great quality gyoza that the ingredient that added in is pretty solid, soft meat with hint of ginger soak along chili oild and vinegar base make it nice to bite.

Mafu (7)

Among in the list, what attracted me the most is this combo Kakuni Tamago, @ RM 27 that have all the ingredient that I want, with ajitsuke tamago, slice pork and pork belly. When this was serve, I look down on this petite bowl and thinking will it ever fill my stomach, then quickly I took my spoon and sip on the soup base as very keen how chicken soup base would taste like. Surpise with the taste, thick and flavorful that I continuesly drinking for a few more sips before I stop.

Mafu (8)

Ramen is pretty springy in thinner version and it was not over cook.

Mafu (9)

This is what Kelly meant, and I have to agree with her that its one of the best egg with egg yolk can be ooze out and well season. Every bite is soft and I don mind to order 2-3 more for this. Its a must have in your ramen if you do come here.

I am surprise to dine ramen with such great soup base especially with Chicken Soup base. A soup base that had been boil for hours to make it thick and nice. As good as what others say. I surely dont mind to come back again to dine another round.

When comes to food, it is always very subjective and it seems that recently there is a big boom in Japanese Ramen industry where is start to mushroom everywhere. One of our latest findings is this outlet hidden inside Isetan 1-Utama, where I found my new love of ramen shop Menya Musashi.

[Update 2.1.2017 – found out they have change operator. Taste is different now-no longer best]

A famous ramen chain that is very famous in Japan finally reach Malaysia shore which is Menya Musashi, is one of the latest outlet that open its door to public since 6 months ago, me and my friend have been constantly returning to this shop for its perfect quality of ramen and only now I decided to blog about it. hehe~ Not only me, as many bloggers have been raving about this place and its actually good quality food being serve.

Menya (1)

For the first round we went 3 months ago, we gather 7 of us to attack on this place with possibility try to order the whole menu and guess how it turn out. There are stretch of chairs line up outside of this very small outlet that can be seated max 50-60 pax at one go. .

Menya (2)

and amazingly the turn over of this outlet is fast. People just get up and go off when finish their meal.

Menya (3)

not only this as you will be enjoying purely Japanese Ramen shop experience as the kitchen is very busy and you will constantly hear them yelling to motivate each other to move faster.

Menya (5)

Menu is pretty straight forward that you choose what types of Ramen follow by flavour broth on the right side.

  1. Shiro (white) – Onion flavoured oil/Original flavour
  2. Kuro (black) – Special oil from Fried Shallots and Garlic
  3. Aka (red) – Housemade Musashi Chili Oil
Yeap, this is the whole menu, pretty easy to see right.

Menya (4)

this is the usual extra ingredient that you will get in a ramen shop as now they have fried garlic and chili powder at the side along. I love mine adding those 3 ingredient including chili oil to stir up the taste abit more.

Menya (7)

In Japanese restaurant its hard for us not to order Gyoza @ RM 9, as till date I have still get to eat nice gyoza in Malaysia, its being panfried perfectly on the base yet the ingredient in it just lack of the extra umph. If they add a bit more ingredient in it, then it would be just perfect.

Menya (8)

Next is Takana Gohan @ RM 7. A bowl of Japanese rice filled with sourish veggie (Mui Choy) and a bit of spicy taste after that. For me, I could not finish this by myself as it will be too sour for me.

Menya (9)

Teriyaki Chasu Gohan @ RM 9 something light for you if you do not prefer something heavy, rice is fragrant and soft top with seasoned chasu in small chunks and slices. If it comes with ramen broth along on the side then it would be a superb combination. 😀

Menya (10)

If you love your soup base with garlic taste then this is a bowl of broth that you should not miss. First impression of Ajimata Chashu Tsukemen @ RM33 – Ramen with ‘kuro'(special oil combined of fried shallot and garlic oil) that serve along in black colour soup like squid ink doesnt look impressive at all, yet it looks a bit weird like eating charcoal.

When you start to taste on the soup, you will be amaze on how good the broth is with garlic taste is not so strong even I like mine a bit more strong.

Menya (11)

Musashi Tsukemen will be the most prefer choice to start off with cuz its the orginal flavour broth, its milky thick that is just yummy! Then if you find that the taste do not suits your liking you can DIY the soup with the chili oil, chili powder and other ingredients that is available on the table. REcommended to start off @ RM27

Menya (12)

This would be my favourite among all as Chashu Men @ RM30 with homemade Musashi Chili Oil.REcommended!

Menya (14)

why is this so good as the broth taste is definitely a steal, follow by the springy thick ramen is just perfect to pair along in this bowl of ramen.

Menya (6)

If you decide to eat this dry ramen, please follow the step 1-3 on how to enjoy eating experience. you have to Slurrrrrpppp it~ Seriously!

Menya (15)

ChasuaTsukemen @RM 31 would be the dry version of ramen..serve along with broth soup at the side and some bamboo strips.

Menya (16)

All bowl of ramen are smack with this huge ass charsu

Menya (17)

The egg is so good that we decided to order extra. .  That I would always add one more additional to my bowl of ramen.

Menya (18)

This brand is so famous in Japan that all their bowls and spoons have the cut little samurai icon

Menya (19)

Master Chef Daisuke Yamaguchi

chef is always there at the counter and you can see him walk around, as we manage to capture his picture on that night. According to the 29-year-old Master Chef Yamaguchi, the secret lies in their broth – known as “tonkotsu”, (not tonkatsu, ok!) which he explained is “boiled for many hours, 10-12 hours and pork belly and chicken feet are the main ingredients, seasoned with Japanese wine and shoyu”. But why chicken feet, I asked. Well, the good chef merely gave an enigmatic smile and said “ahhh… it’s good for the collagen!”. OK, so collagen is good for your skin and all… and also for ramen. (Quoted from Pureglutton) full details about the brand drop by at her blog.

Menya (20)

This is the total bill that came out with 8 pax and we are totally satisfied at that round. Since that, we have return numerous round for ramen and often can crave for it!

If you are a fan or ramen then this is one of the shop that you must not miss and for first timer, it is definitely worth a try. It is slightly expensive but then its good!

Highly Recommended Ramen shop!

Jaya One is famous for food destination with variety of food to choose from . . You name it from Korea, Jap, Spanish, Mexician and many other more with their own signature food to impress from. Since then constantly to hunt food at Jaya One, one of the first stop that I see many blogger blogged bout is Kissaten Coffee and Restaurant.

CLOSE DOWN

Located inside the heart of Jaya One, you need to climb up the stair case to go up.

nice and modern interior that have indoor and outdoor. Do avoid come here on lunch time as they are packed with people, especially indoor area.

By flipping through their menu, all the pictures in it are sure impressive that are nicely take with all also look so delicious.

One drink that my colleague order ‘Bittergourd + Cucumber Drink’ @ RM 8.90 I was like.. yewwww. . . geli! Then when it was served, the whole greeney thing is like near pure blend of ingredient and you might not like the taste of it, its either you love it or hate it. I quite like its surprisingly very refreshing that we need it under this hot weather.

As I Order my set lunch, it served along with ‘Fried Gyoza’

One of my favourite from Kissaten is when I found out they have a small kitchen in Lot 10 Hutong that they really served big portion of this Pork Terriyaki Burger @ RM 10.90 which is certainly a great value and decided to give it  a try again at this outlet. .

Well, it did not disappoint me, with well grill pork burger and sweet teriyaki sauce, and cut through the egg, the egg yolk just oozeee out . .

Miso RaMen @ RM 18.90 set lunch served with gyoza and green tea

Char Siew Pizza as first glance it doesn’t impress me, when my colleague said give it a try, turn out to be good. Well cook in the oven and the dressing at the base of pizza turns out to be nice topped with the melted cheese. RM 23.90

Char Siew Lam Mee @ RM13.90

Time really flies, and never thought its mid of June already and reminds us about Jonathan’s Birthday. When he remind us about his birthday, it feels like just celebrated with him few months ago and actually not it was a year ago. Ishin Japanese Dining.

We delay one day to celebrate with him to make it lunch on Friday, and places that ended up voting by most of them is to ala carte menu of Japanese food at Old Klang Road, anyway, who could resist japanese food?

Ishin

This restaurant is located at the side of Old Klang Road, if you did not notice it, it would be just a plain bungalow as it is conversion of bungalow to restaurant.

Ishin (2)

Ishin (3)

Once you walk into the restaurant, we were greeted by attentive staff and seat us to our table. The restaurant consist of two level that decorated with contemporary Japanese dining placed along dark chocolate wooden table and chairs.

Ishin (4)

If you feel you would like to stare at the chef cutting and preparing sushi, then you can be seated at the Sushi Bar.

Ishin (5)

Modern Tatami style dining is available on second floor and if you are a smoker, you can choose to be seated outside on the balcony.

Ishin (6)

Ishin (7)

Once we were seated, we were given one appetizer.

Most of us we love Japanese food, like Sushi King, Sushi Zanmai, Sushi Tei till recently I receive and invites from Shirley to try out their latest ala cart menu in their Japanese restaurant in the hotel, Enju which being my latest adventure. When comes to Japanese food, hardly anyone could resist it.

If you need some privacy, or talking about business deals, VIP room is always a good option.

Not long after everyone arrive, then we were asked, you guys want any sake? I am surely up for this, who would want to miss that, enjoying a great meal of Japanese food and with sake definitely its a great combination.

Then we were first serve with hot sake, and this device caught my attention which actually the sake was actually heat up in this pot ‘Charcoal Stove’ and until at a warm level it was pour to a small bottle and only pour to the small sake cups. This is to preserve the smoothness of the sake and also the taste of it.

Ichinokura Junmai Taruzake’ @ RM50

Moments after that, we were serve with ‘Sawanoi’ a Cold Sake. Loves the design of the pot and ask Sid whether can I steal it or not. Lol~

Till now, I am still learning how to enjoy my food with sake without knowing what is the difference of Hot and cold which is like Red Wine, White Wine. For me, I just love the taste of both the serving, smooth down the throat, not too strong yet I feel very warm after that.

‘Sawano’
Then we start of with a appetizer that was serve instantly ‘Akadashi Miso Shiru’ that are prepared differently everyday.
‘Tatami Iwashi’ is undeniable good that is grilled baby sardine sheets , which is very crispy yet a bit salty and the next thing came into my mind was how nice if can take it with beer.
This is how thin slice it is. RM 8

I have always in hunt to look for nice ‘Gyoza’ and this is quite good with well pan friend on one side yet preserving the ingredient soft and juicy inside and dipping it with the soy sauce is good. RM15
Then we went off to the chef there to see him preparing the sashimi, impress by his cutting skills that just prepare the sashimi in a very short time.

‘Sashimi Fuji’ was well cut and prepare by the amazing chef…
‘Chef Thomas’ and his sashimi presentation. The fine texture, and freshness of the sashimi when was serve by the chef, it was gone moments later and some of them did not stand a chance to get a glimpse of it. Its like now you see, now you don’t.
‘Enju Dynamite Roll’ by its name, you will know that this will blast you off. It had blast me of for this very the first time, I see a roll with pure ingredients of fish roe, tempura, salmon and Japanese cucumber. What have you notice? A roll without a single rice. Just by dipping it with the wasabi, gosh…it would be one of the best roll I have eaten. RM22
If you are thinking ‘Rock and Roll’ will give you a roll, roll it up as it is one of their signature dish with a great combination of mango and fried tempura (deep-fried tiger prawn). RM24

Just love the presentation of ‘Tekka Maki’ with a small rice ball and top with tuna slice and with light sesame shake on top, eating it raw like that and having a sip with hot sake, is just something I do not know how to describe. RM24
‘Gindara Saikyo Yaki’ is one of my favourite dish of the night with its smooth texture of black cod, with its small meat insert to your mouth, it just melt into thin slices to your mouth. Just never had enough of it and wish I could have the whole piece. RM40
‘Okonomiyaki’, I would say its a Japanese Style pancake fried in with prawns, tako, and the bonito flakes topping, is just something you cannot stop eating while chatting and have to eat it while it is warm. When it is cold, it taste a bit weird to me. RM30
‘Sanma Shioyaki’ is one of the diet fish they called healthy dish that with a simple grill and squeeze with lemon is taste as good as it looks. RM10
‘Shake Honey no Potato Salada Yaki’
Grill salmon with a bed of potato is something which I cannot resist. RM19

‘Gyunku kushiyaki’ @ RM15. Juicy and tender which is perfectly grill shower with japanese sauce had made me finish this by myself.

‘Tori Katsudon’ was drench with soy sauce soup base, which I was abit shock, that in my thought wouldn’t it be very salty yet it was not yet very flavorful. I hardly had any space for this but then still enjoying eating eat with the deep-fried chicken cook in soya sauce with shitake mushrooms, carrots, eggs. RM20
During our dinner, Sunny was mention on cold soba and requested to try out one. ‘Santen Mori Soba’ serve with a raw quill egg and watery soy sauce as I know need to pour onto the noodle and mix with it together then dip with the watery sauce. We tried out the first just eating it raw and then mix with the quill egg. Still do not know how to enjoy this dish. RM30
I thought our meal was finish and by stomach was bulging like 3 months pregnant till the serve ‘Yaki Udon’. Very flavourful with the seafood aroma. RM24
‘Ichigo Daifuku Mochi’ had always been in Japanese menu, yet the home made style with strawberry buried inside with the chewy texture and not that sweet is something that I enjoy. RM16
Lastly, a occasion that we must celebrate which is Sidney’s Mom’s Birthday with Sunny (Bigboysoven) bringing his marvelous cake Pancake Marble Gateaux.

On that night, we laugh, we chat, we celebrate and every one was feed very very full, till for me, walk also a problem by using my hand to support my waist to walk. Shirley, have to thank you for your invitation. See you soon~
