Hawker

Browsing

I travel to Bandung last month and alot of my friends told me that town is not only famous for factory outlet is also a food paradise. I felt that there is like Penang where Bandung Street Food is also one of a must to do. Most of their hawker on the street are very nice. Simple just dip into one of the road side hawker then get the taste of it. Our first stop for the day while we were shopping at Dago area, we try out Durian Ice Cream which cost RM3.50 for a cup with durian meat in there.

and add on their local brand Indomilk Susu Kental Manis Cokelat and carnation on the topings.

The ice-cream is soft and it taste like the one I had when I was a kid, not too sweet and the durian meat flavour was not strong enough as I like. . .Overall its quite a good catch for RM3.50. . . You can just find it any where along most of the streets . ..

As we walk further up nearby Citibank there are a few Warong located next to the bank and we were already very hungry as walk n shop the whole morning. . . try out de Robi Batagor with Kuah Kering. . .

Indo version of fried wanton and fried taufu mix along with peanut sauce and sweet sauce. Freshly fried dip with the sauce is not bad lah` ID 6500 . ..

Usually in Indonesia, Baso is one of the food that I would not miss. I just love their chili that added into the soup.

The ingredient steam first then added their very own style of soup.

This is Baso Soup with Bee Hoon and Mee added. Added with lots of their chili to make the whole bowl spicy in taste. Just that this soup sold by this guy did not meet my expecatation.

Then head to next area while we were shopping at House of Mode, Setiabudi area. . We try out ES Campur Special that added many ingredient inside like coconut, sago jelly, cincau, lychee and some others. To me, if it is less sweet abit then it would be perfect.

street food 1 (12)

Next to House of Mode, Batagor Riri is one of the stall that highly recommended by a few blogger from Indonesia. Batagor means (Fried Taufu) which is originate from Bandung and it had been so famous till spread to many places in Bandung.

street food 1 (13)

As the lady saw me doing some photoshoot, the offer let me take pic of the taufu before fried.

street food 1 (14)

This is after freshly fried and you must eat it while it is hot. Fried Taufu and Siew Mai squeeze with lime and a bit add on with the stall special chili, is just nice, crispy on the edge and the peanut sauce is thick and nice.

street food 1 (15)

Then when we saw a Warung filled with many people which is the Mie Ayam Pangsit Special.

street food 1 (16)

street food 1 (17)

Its is filled with half bowl of soup and chili sauce with another type of local special sauce to add in the kick of it and after mix it till all the chili coated onto the mee as what others do. . .The noodle is a bit springy and for a local taste like that I would say it taste pretty good for just ID 5000.

street food 1 (18)

Next to it Den Han Klappertaart is another one of a famous brand in Bandung.

A few flavour is available.

This street snacks I had it at Setiabudi (next to House of Mode) . . .

Part 2 of street food is coming soon .. .

Back in the streets of Jalan Ipoh, I was introduce to this little shop located around the area that this Bak Kut Teh Restaurant Son In stall used to operate on a 3 wheel hawker cart back in 15 years ago, with many people drive from far just to eat this stall and used to wait for hours that operate from 11pm onwards. Now they have move into a shop that Ken highly recommend me this place if were looking for nice pork stew soy sauce with Bak Kut Teh along as he had been one of the loyal customers for many many years.

bkt

The shop might not be pack with people but what I was told by Ken that he had tried all the Bak Kut Teh shop in this road and by far this shop offer one of the best. This stall use traditional method of cooking by using herbs to cook along with the pork ribs unlike others use only cabbage, mushroom, bean curd and others.

bkt (2)

bkt (3)

One of their signature is the ‘Oily Rice’ that must not to be miss, very fragrance with pig oil yet eat along with Bak Kut Teh is just something you do not want to miss out. I ended up having 3 bowls of this.

bkt (4)

Then I order what they have and to start off with is ‘Bak Kut Teh’ Soup base with a mixture of all pork types and I love it with herbs taste on the soup base which is suits to my liking. The intestine and pork ribs all are soft, by dipping it with my mixture of dark soy sauce, chili and garlic is something I enjoy. This serve 1 pax.

Being a guy from Penang, truly I have not really discover much about Penang food until CK bring the rest of us to a few places and indeed only understand that actually Penang has a lot of good food to offer. The first stop of my last holiday was to Beach Street whereby I used to pass here most of the time and did not even realize that, this small coffee shop has great food to offer that just located directly infront of the fire station.

Kam Ah

The shop start their business quite early and while we were there was already around 11something an it was full house but our luck was there on that day, manage to spot a very last table in that shop.

Kam Ah (2)

What was highly recommended by CK was this particular ‘Nutmeg Drink’ which is the signature drink of the shop. The drink was blended nutmeg purely added with asam boi and water added up the whole cup. I cant really take the flavor of nutmeg because of the taste but in this coffee shop, I just drank 2 glass. Very refreshing and thirst quencher that suits the hot weather in this area. RM 2.50

Kam Ah (3)

While I was seated down, and I notice this beef noodle seriously enjoying brisk business, non stop the customer pouring in, dining in and ta pauz.

Kam Ah (4)

You will never see a hawker owner which cooks till so happy yet passionate on what they do every day yet very friendly to their customer.

Kam Ah (5)

Here am I enjoying my well prepared beef noodle for my breakfast.

Kam Ah (6)

The taste of the soup base is quite mild yet suiting to most people who dislike strong flavor but I just love my bowl that filled with soft koey teow noodle and mee yet with most of the beef spare parts (tender beef slice, softly braised cow stomach and beef balls) RM 7 for a small bowl which is enough for me.

What CK told me was, if you want a strong aromatic flavour which I like it alot should go after 12.30pm which most of the beef was already soak into the soup that makes the soup base stronger taste. Best time to go around 1.00-1.30pm.

Kam Ah (7)

Another stall that must not miss which is the ‘Fried Oyster’.

Kam Ah (8)
Frying the base of the egg in the hot plate.

Kam Ah (9)

We had to plate, we started on with the ‘Crispy Fried Oyster’. Crispy on all the edge of the egg yet we just enjoying the crunch inside our mouth yet enjoying every piece of the oyster, dipping in with the chili sauce given just add on the extra taste. We enjoy bite of it.

Kam Ah (10)

Next plate to introduce was the original ‘Fried Oyster’ soft version a bit jelly’ish. My first encounter was this plate then only later found out that I love the crispy version more. RM5

Surely it was a good experience for breakfast yet I will come again around lunch time to try on their thicker version of soup base but the parking in the area is a pain in the ass. Have to park whenever you see a spot and walk over. Thanks to CK for bringing me and BBO to this place.

Penang being a wonderful place for food hunting especially on hawker and street food but Sticks Fire Bistro is one of the latest edition into Penang food paradise. Being in town for so many days I grab the opportunity to visit this place with my best friend as we were out of idea what to eat around Queensbay.

When we reach there, my friend got totally excited over the newly build up place and I was quite impress with it too. A stand alone Bistro.

A very catchy and nice environment they have.

Filled with a bar that serves cocktail, mock tail, beers and liquor.

The restaurant remains open concept which is quite a nice choice that I have seen one in Klang area. This place surely have the kick for it.

If you feel that outdoor is hot for you, then they do have indoor too. Cozy mosaic floor with nicely lit lights in it.

I have always like to sit some where higher like a mini bar bench area. This would be a great place to be.

The restaurant also practise open concept kitchen.
For the very first time, we were quite surprise to see what they have to offer in the menu, not many choices but felt that the price is right with the environment they build up and comes the friendly waitress that start to take up our order and ask what is nice in the menu, and recommended all those in chili sign is the chef recommended which I also can see that.
Then this name caught my attention to order it ‘Tamarind with Longan-Iced’ RM3.90 and honestly I do not know how to enjoy this drink, sour with longan sweet that I felt do not go along very well yet with a few pieces of ice cubes is not chill enough, requested extra ice cubes to make it more chilled.
My best friend ordered ‘Spicy Waikiki Sardine’ and with the spiciness level is there yet there is nothing much to boost about yet this is a chef recommendation. We felt its way very plain just like spaghetti and added on can sardine with own spice.. RM13.80

Then the food start to turn’s ugly with this serving of ‘Traditional Meat & Mash Potato’ that this mash potato was serve to us cold. I was a little bit shock at first and thought it was suppose to be like that and after eat the base also cold I ask the waiter to help me ask on it. They took it away and help me reheat on it. After came back the base in it is a lil warm yet can still taste some coldness in certain part and I did not mind. As I ate half of the pie and I am getting more frustrated as I did not eat any meat pieces or chunks in the pie with its written meat in it and ask my friend to help me try out and also agree that its more like vegetable pie instead of meat pie. FINE!
When my portion was served, I really got a surprise that ‘Tender Lamb Cubes with Pine’ is totally out of my expectation, what the hell, its still cubes but on sticks more like satay Kebab with such a small portion and plain yet the best part is my LAMB CUBES IS COLD. Again another dish is served cold. Requested the waiter to help me change and they change a brand new stick for me.
Guess what, my second stick of lamb is full of veins and its hard to bite or chew. I never careless about it any more with such food quality yet with the dipping sauce added on it taste not bad but RM19.80 I would say its very expensive for the portion and quality.

While I am walking around to take pictures, this guy request me to take picture for him. They are seriously nice guys as I get to know the first guy in light blue shirt is the manager for TGI Fridays in Queensbay mall which was introduce to me moments ago.
Till while we were waiting for our bill and one of the floor lady manager came to us and ask us how is the food and services. As I told her, the service is good and the food is way below average for the price we are paying and complain bout the lamb too. Guess what is her response…. and what she said I would say she is killing the business:
” I know that our Lamb got veins and the quality is not there, when we went for the food review on the supplier, the lamb was the best even better than the Beef that is why we choose the lamb but when the supplier send us the stock, it was not as what we have tried. You know ah, if a supplier send this kind of quality to us ah..how are we going to use back them, not sincere at all and on my hand I got handful list of supplier, not this supplier I can find another better supplier.”

When I heard this, what am I suppose to say yet came to a conclusion that, you did the same thing, pushing all those bad lamb with veins for us to eat and isint that this is the way you killing your business? What a good explanation you have yet no discount was given, or replacement and just agree with my statement and added yours. Its truly disappointing for food experience that I have to go grab a ramlee burger to eat after that as the portion was small and I still felt hungry after that. I guess I was one of the unlucky customer that had a bad experience on their food serving but service was good.

I just would want to say that, if you would want to try out the food, just give them 1 more month to get organise their kitchen and food quality. Since the day I am visiting was last weekend which is their only first few days of operating but I cannot deny more that, the restaurant is sure a great place to drink in Penang. Hopefully they will improve during my next visit which I think they derserve a second chance.

(Located directly outside of Coffee Bean)

Just found these pictures back and nearly forgot about it. Wok café seems to be quite famous and been visited by a lot of bloggers, that created my curiosity on their food quality, as it has been given thumbs up. The shop is also famous with mostly Penang Hawker variety which recommended by most of the blogger.

Then so coincidently my friend from pg came down and known the chef of the café as she told me that they are good friend. Of course gladly I am taking them there which is not too hard to locate.

The shop is decorated in a very classic Nyonya style filled with wooden chair and marble tables which I rate it as a kopitiam style.

So our pesta makan starts.
‘Hokkien Char’ Filled with wok hei, yet pour in the sambal given just add in the extra taste. RM8

‘Char Koey Teow’ Me and my friend enjoying as it was fried to perfection, yet filled with si ham, and prawns. I would prefer if it was a bit more spicy. RM8
‘Otak Otak’ It is soft, with a big piece of fish chunk in the middle but I have eaten a better one. RM4
‘Ju Hu Char’ Was a complimentary by the chef to my friend, which we always take it and wrap with the veggie an eat. A bit sweet in taste but I prefer my grandma’s style which is abit salty.
‘Roast Pork with Garlic’ We enjoy this dish, which is quite a bit sweet and salty, yet the fats of the roast pork are just what we prefer. RM16
The ‘Lorbak Set’ ss one of their signature, is quite big in a roll, fried till crispy on the outer layer filled with meat but I prefer other stalls. RM8

‘Kerabu Mango’ Sweet and sour create sensation on our tongue which is one that I would recommend. RM8
‘Sotong KangKung’ It is quite watery after got served, which they did not dry out the kangkung enough, the shrimp paste have to be added in with some of the chili added to bring in the kick. If the shrimp paste is a bit thicker it would be even nicer. RM10

‘Sago gula Melaka’ RM 3.50 Find it too sweet with the floating layer of santan and thick layer of gula Melaka.
‘Mango Cendul’ Unique in the name which I have not tried before, but just not my taste which the mango doesn’t go along with cendul and gula Melaka. RM3.50
I would say that the service was prompt as the dad were seated next to us which is the cashier, and the dad got quite surprise that 3 person of us eating so much, which is me and another 2 girl.

As overall, I don think I know how to enjoy eating Nyonya food but I would surely return for the Penang Hawker food.

Remarks: please go there early to avoid disappointment which is the signature like Hokkien Mee and Curry mee already finish. Be there b4 8.30

For the whole month of April I was waiting for this moment. Did not even realise that time had past so fast for the whole month, as kept day dreaming about it, during work surf where to shop, eat and sightseeing. At last, the moment of joy came in. That I am going for my business holiday already.

Even though very tired on the previous night as there are alot of things have to prepare and get done as we are going in a group of 19 from Malaysia and meeting up another 22 from Indonesia in Hong Kong air port later. Did not really sleep the whole night as alot of things happen, have to make sure every 1 waking up and reach my friend’s place on time. By 4am already wake up and hurry and make our move to Pantai Hill Park to be gathered and for the very very very very very last minute during before we about to go onto the taxi, my very best friend Desmond cannot join the trip(paid everything) the reason was, the parents still cannot let him go and the reason given was the H1N1 outbreak. I was so disappointed that my best friend in the end came about and let me know this.

So without anything we can do, we just left and I just say good bye to him and what a waste he cannot join us. Told him that I will buy him souvenir.

I miss this early sun, has been long time since I last saw it. Usually I slept till 8 and to work, of course not as early as this. 7.20am sunrise.

Hahaha..I am so happy that going to fly, just keep thinking what is the first food that I am goin to eat when I am in HK.

Every1 busy prepare to check in. In a mess for everyone, like hawker seller, shouting for ‘Passport Please’…Please give me your passport!!! Cepat cepat!!!
Wohooo…got my ticket and very excited to fly with Cathay Pacific for the very very first time. Previously have been flying under Air Asia, Sg and MAS airline. So far Air Asia had not dissapointed me yet. A great job for a budget airline. Noting to complain. As my friend told me that Cathay is so much better compare to the 3 I mention. Don know why but about to check it out.

Going for boarding at international port.

As usual we were heading to Burger King for our meal then suddenly O’Brien Sandwich was there in the middle. It is a new stall just open up in front of Burger King. Of course I choose this over B.K. I choose their signature which is the O’Brian Crambo Club’.

This is the counter that they are having from the top left, you can choose the dressing and vegie that you want if you go under customise. Muffins and cakes.

Here is what I have ordered ‘O’Brian Triple Toot’ which cost me RM20. It was worth every penny of it. A toast with whole meal bread and the chicken, the onions and the ham just go perfectly well for a breakfast. Must try, highly recommended!

This is how I eat to till the very last bite of it.

Cathay Pacific Airline, will not be my first time and surely will be many times to come, if their destination suits me.
I definitely would give thumbs up for all the air hostess and steward for delivering a good job! They have been very friendly yet their service is first class. No wonder my friend said that she prefer Cathay over the rest. Besides that, of course their staff is more good looking and prettier air crew on board compare to the rest. The QC of air crew is there. Never got disappointed.
The English language that they spoke is just so perfect with the right foreign accent. Just makes them so professional.
By the plane itself, even though I am half way through but I can feel that I am already in Hong Kong, the way they serve is just like the ‘Tim Sum’ Cart in H.K whereby its just so merrier and serve very fast which is their culture.
This is the early breakfast that they serve. ‘Scramble egg with Sausage and potato’. The taste for airline food is good. The egg is perfectly done, the sausage is nice and juicy and the potato although is in between mash and very soft. The bread is warm goes very well with the butter. Just a perfect breakfast to be serve.
For the rating I am giving to you guys 10/10. One of the satisfied on board passenger.
Here am I, after 3 hours and 40 minutes of flight, at lastttttttttttt I have reach Hong Kong!!!!.
Not the end of my post yet. More to come!~
