During MCO, alot of us like suddenly become masterchef! I have seen suddenly my friend bake such a nice cake. For me, I always call my cooking as Chin Chai cook (means simply cook). This is my 15 minutes Chin Chai Cook Pork Steak during the period.

This is my first time cooking pork chop:
when I put into my @taufulou instagram stories, I always got curse by my friend, saying that the way I cook is not #chinchaicook at all. Some even challenge me to share my recipe. When i Chin Chai cook, I really mean it. No recipe, with actual measurement. All about AGAK-AGAK.

Once I find my cooking pass, then I will start to track back what I have done, like this home cook pork steak.

home cook recipe

Here you go. My chin Chai cook recipe.
1. Pork Steak
2. Fresh Garlic
3. Fresh Thype
4. Potato – Cuz I want to do Mash Potato

Marinate: Simple:

  1. Sprinkle Black Pepper
  2. Sprinkle Salt
  3. Sprinkle any other ingredient you think you like.
    1. Add only. My second round cooking, I add in herbs.

Remark: Important steps: If you wash your steak! Do remember use clean cloth/ tissue towel to dry it off. If not when you put into your frying pan, you gonna have huge fountain of oil and could burn your hand cuz of water in it. REMEMBER!

Who would not be a fan of steamboat when it comes to cold weather, or rainy season. Many of us would suddenly think of it during this cold weather. Well, I guess new marketing way for it is called Hotpot. Non the less, there is a new outlet of hotpot/steamboat that just start operating in this Kampung Baru, Sungai Buloh neigbourhood. Operating less than a month and its gaining its popularity thru the residence here.

xiao lau wang (1)

The operation team is no stranger to us as the team that run famous brand like Kissaten and Lammeeya is the people behind this new concept that they have extend their wings too.

xiao lau wang (2)

xiao lau wang (3)

Choices are pretty much okay that ranges from pork, seafood and some home cook stuff.

xiao lau wang (4)

If you are adventurous then the sauce counter is ready for you to mix around.

xiao lau wang (5)

xiao lau wang (6)

If you are not too sure what is the best mixture, then there is a guide for you for house specialty sauce mixture ingredient list prepared.

xiao lau wang (7)

I have mix a few sauces for the night.

xiao lau wang (8)

The first sauce on the top is the recommended sauce of house mixture and the bottom is another ingredient that I have DIY. 😀

xiao lau wang (9)

We ordered 2 types of soup for a table of 8 and comes in different gas stove, not like the other ordinary that a pot shared by 2.

xiao lau wang (10)

I love their smoke duck which is fragrant and chewy texture. – REcommended

xiao lau wang (11)

they have homemade fish ball that serve in bamboo  with Prawn Paste, Fish Paste with Tobikko and Chicken Paste .

xiao lau wang (12)

and a few types of homemade Mushroom Pork Balls, Beef Balls, Celery Pork Balls, Sotong Pork Balls and Sotong Balls. Pork Ball is a must order. . .

xiao lau wang (13)

 Fresh seafood. . .

xiao lau wang (14)

Vegetable which is a must for me and another advantage here is if you do not know what types of vegetable to order, they have vegetable platter which offer a few types of vegetable that serve in one plate.

xiao lau wang (15)

Fresh meat slices that I would prefer lamb and pork. Bacon roll is not bad to go along if you mix your own sauce nicely. . 🙂

xiao lau wang (17)

Love this as its fried to perfection and porky ingredient is well marinated and mix, not too solid yet just nice.

xiao lau wang (18)

Fried Dumplings, fried salmon head and fried fu chuk, serve pippin hot.

xiao lau wang (19)

When all the ingredients are serve, these hungry people can wait to pour all the ingredients in it and get it cook . .

xiao lau wang (20)

There are 2 types of soup available. . One which is Pork bones, pig stomach, chicken & salmon fish head soup

xiao lau wang (21)

This is the classic Pork bones, pig stomach, chicken soup base

xiao lau wang (22)

Among both soup, I find that the classic one taste much better after with all ingredients being cook along and the soup is much tastier.

xiao lau wang (16)

At the mean time while waiting for your food to cook, you can order their Hong Kong Twin Sausage Rice &  Double Liver & Smoked Duck Rice

All hotpot is best to pair with what? Beer!! This restaurant do offer SNOW beer and its a perfect combination. Price is very reasonable. .

Wow, time pass seriously fast. January is gone and Chinese New Year is this week Sunday and I believe every one already busy flock into supermarket stocking up items for CNY. Well, of course this Saturday is the reunion dinner night. Still scratching your head on where to eat if you are not cooking?

Ti Chen (1)

Ti Chen Restaurant is another favorite restaurant that I would recommend for Reunion Dinner. Located inside the golf club of Saujana Hotel that brings you this another dimension. Ti Chen, which also means “Palace of Emperor” is the iconic Chinese restaurant of The Saujana Hotel.

Ti Chen (2)

The interior is like classical Chinese novel “Dream of the Red Chamber”.

Ti Chen (3)

I love the new ambiance of this restaurant, not only love at first sight as its a total dimension from the exterior out from this restaurant as you walk in you are flank with the modern Chinese yet with classic touch of it. A simple concept that you can blend in comfortably . .

Ti Chen (4)

As for family, you are able to get a little private space in between and its unique how the make their movable wooden frame wall to separate the privacy.

Ti Chen (5)

As for this year, Chef Chong Seng Lai will be presenting his favourite festive dishes in 4 special prosperity menu to usher in the Year of The Snake.  Love his cooking style that definitely make the reunion dinner better as he is more into home cook style. Along the years he manage to learn many home cook recipe and improvise it slightly to be even better.

Ti Chen (7)

Sea Bird Nest for the Yee Sang

Ti Chen (6)

Ti Chen (8)

Many Yee Sang I have tasted and this is one of the most unique yet stood out in terms of taste. Sea bird nest slightly crunchy and fresh sweetness of fruits being added on along with chef special sour sauce in it that make it a perfect blend.

Ti Chen (9)

Double-Boiled Herbal Soup with Fish Maw

Before starting the mains, its always great to have a pipping hot soup to be serve. Something light in taste to start off with. Abalone slices are chewy and its pretty huge too.

Ti Chen (10)

Oven Roasted Chicken with Homemade BBQ Dressing. Love the crips of the chicken skin and meat is soft that dipping along with the sauce is a must. Creatively the chef add this with onion rings.

Ti Chen (11)

The fish is one of my favourite for the night. Fresh fish meat and the special ginger chili sauce that cook along that makes it simple and aromatic.  Steamed Red Snapper with Ginger Chilli Sauce

Ti Chen (12)

Next is big succulent prawn. Asam style? Nope, its Stir Fried Tiger Prawns with Fragrant Soy Sauce. Top soy sauce quality being used to ensure that the frangrant of sauce sauce is there and well soak into the prawn while cooking.

Ti Chen (13)

You can see that many Chinese restaurant would serve dish similiar to this, Braised Seasonal Vegetables with Dried Oysters & Sea Moss .

Ti Chen (14)

Special Wok Fried Rice with Tobiko and Crispy Beancurd Skin is one of my favourite too. Filled with wok hei and every mouthfull is fill with slight burst of tobiko make it a perfect dish yet pair along the the dishes above is just perfect. Good enough to be satisfied.

Ti Chen (15)

I have always love this Warm Nien Gou with Grated Coconut, that my mom would do it 4th day of Chinese New Year and dip alot with alot of fresh coconut slices. I prefer it in this rather than the cripsy fried. Nian Gou is perfect that its not too sweet and pair well enough.

Ti Chen (16)

Stuff with lots of food above and end this meal with this big bowl of Honeydew Sago infused with Calamansi Juice. I ended up having 4 bowls of this as its very refreshing in taste and honeydew that day was sweet

Still have  yet to decide which resturant to go for Reunion dinner, Ti Chen is one of the place I would recommend if you are into homecook food with nice ambiance. As we tried the Pearl Set Dinner and comes with a bottle of red wine too. Not bad.

  • Pearl Set priced at RM988++ for a 9-course meal with 2 complimentary bottles of Misterio Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wines
  • Jade Set & Golden Set priced at RM1,180++ and RM1,388++ respectively for a 9-course meal each with a complimentary bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label Whiskey.
  • Emperor Set priced at RM2,288++ for a 9-course meal with a complimentary bottle of Hennessy VSOP.

There are also a variety of Yee Sang available a la carte from RM48++ to RM228++.

Do make your reservation to avoid any disappointment.

[Update: 1/5/2016 – now have move to SS2)

Damansara Uptown is famous for a eatery place whereby we can hunt a few nice place to eat with a great mix. One of the latest addition outlet to the area is this Private Kitchen that I have been told that they started off with small little privite dining and its popularity had grown then they have to operate into a shop. Hence Private Kitchen was the name and now is available in bigger space  with both ground floor and first floor (more for private functions or family gathering).

Private Kitchen (1)

I have travel to Hong Kong a few times and yet find something similar here. Hong Kong food is definately must not miss. Well this new discovery,Private Kitchen is no ordinary shop like those restaurant in shopping mall as they are offering more authentic home cook Hong Kong Cuisine. The man behind the master creation is Chef Lam with experience of more than 20 years on him. Being in Malaysia for less than 18 months, he had creatively come out with many unique dish to impress.

Private Kitchen (2)

A cosy dining area with wooden chairs with many pictures that resemble on Hong Kong that certainly makes you think you are in Hong Kong Restaurant.

Private Kitchen (3)

Private Kitchen (4)

Private Kitchen (5)

Chicken wings are well deep fried to golden brown, crisps on all edges, with mild spicy and salty at the end. A great way to start off our dinner.

Private Kitchen (6)

Follow by this delicious Smoke Duck with Mango. Juicy and chewy slice of smoke duck which is aromatic and blend well with light sour sweet mango, perfect! – recommended

Private Kitchen (7)

I love my meal to start off with soup, and this double boil soup.

Private Kitchen (8)

Is just a great way to make our stomach warm. Boil along with pumpkin, pork and some other ingredient makes the soup sweet enough just as I like or its just me that love soup, any kind of soup is tasty to me. 🙂

Private Kitchen (9)

As we all had the introduction of the meal, then we head to the next meal section which is their set lunch menu that I am totally jealous with most of the office worker working around the area. Set lunch start off with as low as RM 7.90 and below are some of the items can be found.

Hong Kong style steamed chicken in sand ginger powder noodle soup @ RM 9.50

Private Kitchen (11)

Finely chop ginger slices is one of the extra condiments that you must not miss out to pair with the chicken. I finish it and asked for another additional. Not too spicy ginger taste which had tone down and suits many people I think. Well, if you are not a ginger person its worth for you to give it a try.

Private Kitchen (12)

This is no ordinary steam white chicken. Been perfectly marinated and bath with ginger serve along with hot soup noodle is one of the way to satisfy your lunch. Soft tender chicken meat, with slightly fragrant sauce that blends well with the noodle soup. If I drink the sauce it will be too salty as it is not meant to drink that way. I pour the gravy into the soup it made it extra flavorful.

Private Kitchen (10)

noodle in the soup to pair with the chicken

Private Kitchen (13)

Noodles with mince meat & fried egg in tomato soup @ RM 7.50

Private Kitchen (14)

This is no ordinary instant noodle. Well, I often got scolded for ordering instant noodle at restaurant because of the pricing and its easy to cook. Sometimes I just crave for it and cant help it. This here is a must try. It look pretty ordinary or simple yet the hidden ingredient why I love it so much is they cook their own soup base with tomato and pork that makes it sweet enough (something like ‘Loh Shun Tong’) filled with mince meat and a simple sunny side up. Love the soup as its slightly sour tomato base and we just finish it within seconds as the instant noodle cook to springy. – highly recommended

Private Kitchen (16)

If you love to have some pork, then you can opt for this Typhoon shelter noodles with Pork Chop in Chili and Garlic Soup @ RM 15

Private Kitchen (15)

Comes with deep fried pork as the side dish and noodle, perfect for raining weather at this moment.

Private Kitchen (18)

Stir Fried Pork Ribs with Rice @ RM 12.90

Sweet and soup pork ribs might looks ordinary, but this is a well balance taste, mild sweet and more pineapple sour taste as they cook along where you can buy chunks of pinapple. Deep fried pork are in cubes and soft that pairs well with the rice.

Private Kitchen (20)

Fried Rice Portuguese Style with braised pork belly & Seafood @ RM 16 is filled with wok hei and too bad that they don have sambal or chili oil to pair with. If not it would make it more outstanding.

Private Kitchen (21)

Private Kitchen Stir Fried Prime Beef Fillet with Strawberry Pepper Sauce @ RM28

Now lets head to more of its ala-carte menu. Begins with this is pretty unique dish with me, as strawberry is being used to cook along in this dish.Cook till the gravy is well coated onto the beef, tender soft and juicy with mild pepper spicy after taste makes it a great dish for me.

Private Kitchen (22)

Something creamy and palatable then go for this one of my favorite for the night, Deep Fried Pork Ribs with Special Salad Sauce @ RM32. Me and Ken just enjoying this dish by just munching it half a plate with it well coated salad sauce, sweet and slightly creamy that make it appetizing.

Private Kitchen (23)

Creating your taste bud dancing, Stir Fried Squids with vermicelli   in Special Chili Sauce is next to hunt for. YOu have to eat it pretty fast and if not, the vermicelli will soak the soup pretty instantly. Soup taste of it is pretty amazing lime, sour spicy and squid is just fresh, chewy bouncy as I like. RM 28

Private Kitchen (24)

oh oh, this dish is pretty Hong Kong style as Portuguese Style Baked Chicken Chop @ RM 18. Slightly can taste on powdery ginger curry taste which definitely relates back to HOng Kong dish as the chef hvae slightly change the ingredient as he mention the ingredient here is pretty good and the base of it is potato is amazing. -Recommended when you have your rice.

Some of you might find the curry slightly powdery but that is what Hong Kong curry taste like. 😉

Private Kitchen (25)

I know I am being called taufulou, yet this is another amazing by the chef. Crispy fried Tofu with Salt & Pepper @ RM 16

Private Kitchen (26)

The chef have made the toufu so delicately soft that nearly melts on your tongue  with crispy base outside with light after taste of pepper and the bite of it taste as soft as taufufa. Is the chef special mixture to make it outstanding. If you have beer on your side, this would be the best option!

Private Kitchen (27)

another dish that was gone within seconds as the aroma of the spicy garlic trail on our nose that make it so tempting. Private Kitchen Typhoon Shelter Prawns with Chili & Garlic @ seasonal price. Huge succulent prawn being deep fried along with chili and garlic make this dish simple and nice.

Private Kitchen (28)

Any vegetable with pork, I am up for it. Private Kitchen Sautéed Chinese Chives with Dried Shrimp and Shredded Dried Cuttlefish @ RM18 is a well balance vegetable that comes with me, and the best part is the small little salted fish is crispy and the saltiness that bite after it with the vegie and pork.. ooo so hard to resit!

Private Kitchen (29)

End with this healthy herbal jelly. Not many people will like it but its something unique to end off with. I am okay with it and I believe my parents would love it.

I must say, this is one of the most impressive Hong Kong Restaurant that I have come accross and you do not know where to dine, this is one of a highly recommended restaurant in my list for Hong Kong Cuisine.

Her mom inherit the recepi from the family and pass down and now, we are able to enjoy good home cook food mostly on nyonya style. Manage to pop by on my last trip back to Penang as this outlet just operated less than a month and already gaining popularity to family crowd.

home chef garden (4)

Selection and price in here are pretty decent. As my friend is working on the day, so we skip the menu and ask her to shower us her best dish, and she scolded me, nearly everything is good as its homecook version. I was like *ohhh then I requested what is best for the day.

home chef garden (5)

Here it comes with our first dish. Tophat (Pai Tee) @ RM 4.80. Add on with jiu hu char top with crispy garlic and freshly fried base. Eat it while is fresh as I did leave my second one for quite a while, as its not crips anymore, become sligtly soggy after the jiu hu char create some water in it. I munch the whole thing in one bite and taste good, best of all must add on the sambal to add in extra kick.

home chef garden (6)

Inchi Kabin @ RM 17

home chef garden (7)

Typical Jiu Hu Char ingredients must be finely slice or chop and not over cook yet can still bite on the sengkuang and moist upon serving. Just as how I like it.  RM 18

home chef garden (8)

Pork lover must not miss this. Too Kha Chor cook to perfection that the fats and meat are soft and juicy yet the taste of it is awesome. Slightly strong in vinegar taste yet pair it well with my rice. Highly recommended! @ RM 15

home chef garden (9)

I used to love this alot as I cant take too much of it as I am allergy to the combination. Kiam Chai Ark (salted vegie Duck soup) its a very well balance soup, with sourish taste, slightly pepper spicy and soup is strong in salted vegie taste. Love it. @ RM 17

home chef garden (10)

Too Thor Thng Penang version is more towards white pepper spicy as she added in small little pepper balls to cook along, with pork to make the soup taste sweet and too thor is wash clean without the strong musk taste. Dipping with some soy sauce and chew it just nice. @ RM 15

home chef garden (11)

Prawn Coconut Milk is something new to me, shower with creamy coconut gravy and fresh chewy prawns with bitter gourd taste is just unique and good. @ RM 15

home chef garden (12)

Steam Fish is one of the fast moving product on the meal as the soup base is sourish enough to make the girls take more and fine chopping garlic cook along and the fish is fresh. @ RM 38

home chef garden (13)

Kai Lan with Salted fish @ RM 14

home chef garden (14)

I don really like to eat this desert but I must rate it as Super star of the desert is this Bur Bur Cha Cha/Bubur chacha. One of the best I have come across so far, not too creamy in coconut taste yet  ingredients like taro, sweet potato, carrot and some other items being boil till its near soft. Perfect and its cook fresh on every dining sessions with limited quantity.

If you do plan to dine there, remember to call in and reserve x amount of bowls you need. We were lucky as these were the last 2 bowls. As she have many orders specially to take away for this desert only. – Highly Recommended!

home chef garden (15)

Here we are all of us enjoying a great meal at my friends place. Total bill came out about RM 180 which is reasonable.
