The excitement is there, as it was all on when I first start to write for Golden Disk Awards 2 weeks back. Gotten to know that its such a prestigious event that held in Korea and now its arriving to Malaysia. It had been label on par with Grammy Awards that all the Korean artist are eyeing for.  This would be their 27th installment of South Korea’s famous ‘Grammy Awards’ is hosted by JTBC and Ilgan Sports, organized by Joongang Culture Media and Mediartncomm Co., Ltd., making its way for its first time to host in Malaysia, supported by the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) together with the Ministry of Tourism and presented by Samsung Malaysia Electronics as title sponsor. The awards fall into the two classifications of ‘Album’ and ‘Song’ awards with the addition of Popularity Voting for fans to support their favourite artistes such as the MSN Popularity Vote, Malaysia’s Most Favourite and GALAXY Star Award.

Finally the day of anticipation had come, excited to attend such a grand event as the first day of Samsung GALAXY The 27th Golden Disk Awards in Kuala Lumpur (GDA) kicked off.

Not only that, all K-Pop fans arrive as early as 1pm right way before sitting under hot sun getting excited and waiting for the door to open. Right after the door open, all the fans running all their way to red carpet session.

There were 15,000 screaming fans for the night to cheer their favourite artist and it end with a big bang. As the night ended, I enjoy myself alot with such grand event and the set back was media section was not located in the middle whereby I always thought media will have a good view. Hidden at a small compact area wasnt in my mind, and unable to acess all zone is also disappointing. Looking at the bright side, enjoying such a event was turn to my priority.

Great line up and congrats to all the artist that won away with the awards. You guys deserve it. For Day 2, stay tuned~

During festive seasons like for the past few days, many local tourist will flock to Penang shore as Penang is famous for hawker/street food. It can attract tourist as far as Singaporean to drive all the way to satisfy their crave on food and some of the Best of Penang Street Food is still top in the list of many people.

For example a little stall that smack at the junction of Lebuh Keng Wee and Penang Road that many people surely wont miss this little stall that had been operating more 10 years and till date it had attracted many people from far

Next destination is this place where no doubt that recently Penang Laksa had been in the list of world top 10 food that must eat which I am surely proud off and many of my friends that come Penang the first thing they mention is they want to eat Asam Laksa.

NED_6507_resize

I was recently introduce to this stall by my friend that this is another new joint that I found that served good laksa as I find that the one at Ayer Itam Market is very commercialise and I do not really like the taste of it. I find that this taste much better.

This few hawker stalls is located at the round about of Ayer Itam Junction and now it had attracted many other local tourist as when I was there, alot people speak cantonese in the area.

NED_6508_resize

NED_6509_resize

This is one fine bowl of laksa that comes with a lot of mixture of vegetable such as finely sliced vegetables including onions, cucumber, red chillis, pineapple, lettuce, mint and pink bunga kantan then shower a few rounds with sour and and a bit spicy soup base, also a spoonfull of ‘Heh Koh’ (prawn paste). RM3.50

laksa

The noodle is silky smooth and slurp it all the way into my mouth, texture of it a bit chewy that comes to my liking. Soup base is one of my prefered choice as it cook along with fish meat that had been smash and every sip I can bite some of the fish meat. It is sour and spicy enough that can satisfy my crave.

NED_6509.0_resize

Next stall that is quite famous among there is this Duck Meat Koey Teow Soup that the soup is very aromatic with its well cook soup base with duck bone, pork bone and a few other ingredients that make it sweet, served along with duck meat and some pork lard to make it superb in taste. RM 3.50

NED_6510_resize

Penang Rojak is also another dish that you must have which is a mixture of fruits and mix with prawn paste. This is not the best stall and find that the prawn paste is quite salty and its expensive as for this small portion its RM4.

It was on Sunday, with the sun shining brightly with a clear blue sky and all of us are on a task which leads us to a bungalow house covers with some jati wood on the porch, a classic wooden door open concept shower on the compound with some long plants growing and covering part of it which is just by the side of a swimming pool that located at Shah Alam. Up Close and Personal with Chef Najib and Taff Family

If you every come across these names ’ Serai Satay Bar @ Pavillion Mall, Serai Thai Restaurant @ Section 3 Shah Alam (a new restaurant coming up in SS15 that we shall keep it as a secret at the moment)’we are on the way to meet up with Chef Najib which had recently return back to home ground after 10 years of experience at Australia and Taff family with 19 years of experience in F n B industry.

chef

With flowers booming and the scent of fresh flower with natural air around the compound makes it so relaxing for us.

chef (2)

crystal clear water on the pool with hot sun burning in the sky and jumping into this cold pool would be the ideal idea.

chef (4)

and to shower off and head to our agenda for the day.

chef (3)

With a dinner table setting next to the pool, Ken and Tai disscussing how to coordinate the whole photoshoot.

chef (5)

a wooden table with gold lining plate place on the table, pair with a shinning bright silver cutleries  side by side end with a bohemian glass and 2 small lavender pot to place on the table as decorations.

chef (6)

While everything is setting up, we received warm hospitality from the host themselves Qistina and Liyana along with their grandfather by preparing us with ‘Homemade Lemon Lime Honey’ and in this hot weather, certainly this drink is very refreshing and I could say that I nearly finish one jug of it while Chef Najib is busy managing the kitchen at that moment.

chef (17)

While waiting, we are ready to cut through any food that comes on our path.

chef (7)

Then comes with some light food  for us as they worry that we had not eaten anything before proceed here, to start off our day while waiting for the 3 sifu to coordinate everything up.

Butter Prawns’

chef (9)

chef (10)

Not long after the meal, we are good to go. Every one of us taking opportunity to shoot on all item in different angle.

chef (11)

Andrew getting himself comfortable to make his perfect shoot.

serai_behind01

Behind the scene, most of us were like, rushing into that item when the camera flash stand is place nearby, as it is to share by everyone that I am so happy that Ken is actually sacrificing is flash for us to trigger around.

chef (12)

I start to shoot what I feel is right and I am quite satisfied with what I shoot but with comments, there are more rooms for improvement. While shooting this, Portobello Mushroom Pesto Bruschetta’ . . . . . .

chef (16)

I got so hungry by the smell of the freshly toasted bread top with mushroom and mint, not long after that, I snapped 3 slices of it and the taste of it is awesome!

chef (14)

‘Chilled Watermelon Cubes topped with Persian feta, Basil and Balsamic vinegar’

chef (15)

when this dish was served, I stared at it blankly and wondering what kind of combination is this, but I am very eager to try on it as it looks very unique with persian feta. When we started eating, me and Valentino non stop taxing it, as it taste a bit sweet with watermelon taste yet the feta gives the extra unique combination of salty that makes it taste good. Great combination as we would say~

chef (18)

After first round of shooting and eating that had made our stomach warming up, little Dylan had went into the pool to cool off himself, judgging from his active’ness in the pool we believe that he is a person who loves swimming and he is just so adorable.

chef (19)

The dad, Valentino  had him for drying up session while waiting for second session but during that time, it was quite windy and just momemts dark clouds moving in covering half of the sky and we have to relocate into the house living room.

chef (20)

With the support from Ken holding on the lighting to place above on the food to get the best light, we were all lining up to get each individual shots of it.

chef (22)

‘Portobello Mushrooms’

I love the taste of it, as it is well balance that the tomato ingredient and feta did not overpower the taste of mushroom yet at the base of the mushroom it was grilled perfectly.

chef (23)

Flame-Grilled Sirloin Angus (with pumpkin puree, onion relish, filed mushroom and sautéed asparagus)

Not every chef can grilled a medium steak consistently, but he did a good job by maintaining the freshness of the Angus steak cooking it medium, cut through it there are blood flooding out. We were taught to eat dip it with pumpkin puree.

chef (24)

Pan-fried Cod’

That grills with skills to ensure that the outer layer is a bit brownish but its pure white when you cut through it with knife. A slice of cod that put into my mouth that separates into slices and melts shows it was a fresh cod! Accompany with clamp and baked potato.

chef (27)

Shooting half way, and I could not leave my eye sight on this cake when Liyana bring out this cake, and I knew it was ‘Tiramisu’ which is one of my favourite cake.

chef (25)

chef (26)

Soak with coffee as the base, layers covers in mascarpone cheeze and top with roast walnut is just something which is irresistible, soft cake base yet the flavour is just right.

chef (28)

Yet another desert that caught my attention ‘Banoffee’

chef (29)

Banana was cut into slices and cook till it is soft and aromatic that is not too sweet,  put into almond cup base and baked a while end it with cream and top with chocolate flakes. I had 2 of this tart.

chef (30)

After the whole food shooting and testing finish, Dylan is so cute that he is playing by himself and I join him too.

serai_behind03

with me having my chance to carry on Baby Dylan that he is so happy to ride on my shoulder and making him fly like a superman~ Dylan likes Liyana too smile and laughing all the way.

chef (31)

Ken preparing everything for the last set.

chef (32)

Me the white mouse to test on the lighting and it pass (actually I wanted to be in it, :p)

Qistina and fiance Chef Najib

chef (37)

The excellent management team that helping out to operate their existing restaurants.

It was a tiring day till the evening, but it was worthwhile that we get up close and personal with Chef Najib and Taff family, certainly I am very glad full to know this warm hearted and friendly family, Ken and Sidney for making all this happens.

It was a great Sunday outing, looking forward for more and some pictures I borrow from Valentino.

When people mention that its not good to eat in dirty places as not a great place to dine in for hygiene purpose but Penang, there are a few places that should not be miss that with this environment they make a great food.

In my thought, I still feel that Penang still has the best Nasi Kandar compare to KL or I still have not come across any nice one yet in KL. This place, hidden in one of a very small alley had been so famous that till during my last trip back to Penang and pass numerous time the shop and the queue in the lunch time is so damm long. From inside the stall till outside till make a L shape queue to the next shop and people are hunting for it even under the hot sun.

Usually I visit this place for my supper and used to come very often till my friend got scared of me. Every time ask me where to go for supper and I would replied, LINE CLEAR. For me, I always go around 1.30am as the fried chicken is frying hot that just came out from the wok, fresh and crispy.

Since I started blogging, I have not visited this place which means for more than a year already and till last weekend go hunt for it with best friend as both of us are a fan of this shop.

If you are hungry at night, need not to fear that, this place operate 24 hours a day and 365 a year.

This would be the best sight to see of all the salivating gravy that going to shower on my rice.

This is what I meant that the crispy chicken I would not miss and its highly recommended by me. Crispy on the outside, yet soft and juicy in the inside.
When I was in the queue I was surprise to see this guy which had been so hip hop and yeng just for taking your order in the rice area.
After taking my portion, he always ask me, clear? Line clear? and my reply is always veryyyyyy clearr….
Another thing that I would not miss in this stall is this very ‘Susu Tarik with Egg’, besides this he also serve, Milo Tarik, Milo Tarik telur (good too) and one or two more choices.
Last time when I came here, there are no pictures but then now they are getting famous that, they are drawing quite a number of celebrity to their stalls.
This would be my usual portion of ‘Nasi Kandar with chicken, cabbage and ‘Daging’ and with Kuah Campur Banjir’(which mean a lot of gravy).
My favorite ‘Susu Tarik Telur’ something simple clear in milk taste yet add in an egg made the taste even better and a bit yellowish.

Total of my meal is RM7.20 but yet its very satisfying. Surely its a place that must not miss and highly recommended by me. Best time to go is at night.

An hour after our breakfast and check-in into hotel, headed to this placed called Jonker’s walk area. To try out the Chicken Rice ball. A thing that was told must not miss.
When we reach there, the crowd is just so gilar.. a bunch of people waiting outside including us under the hot sun. Luckily, we did not wait long to be seated inside. This picture of queing is after our meal. Siau..even people take umbrella to que.

The ah pek never stop chopping on the chicken.

The reason of so many people waiting outside is the shop have limited space.

What I have been told by my friend, that the chili here is very nice. Me being want to try on everything, so just take lah~

The most famous thing in this shop is the ‘Rice Ball’. I find it its quite sticky, yet tasteless. If it was abit dry and flavourful, surely it would be nice.
The chicken chop till so geli and was inform that the ah pek had help us to remove the bone. Nothing special on the chicken to comment about.
This shop is nothing special about it which I feel, there is other chicken shop in KL or PG taste much better than this. Just that its in Rice ball form but one of the most famous shop around the area. What I feel on this shop is OVERRATED!

We are so full till walk is also a problem. Then after coming out from the desert shop, a ah pek selling ‘Pumpkin Cake’ caught my attention. Some more the ah pek was telling me, I must eat. If I don eat I will regret, then I ask the ah pek. SO hoh liau boh..?? he said Guarantee hoh liau! If boh hoh jiak, money back. I was like…wah, so geng boh. Okay la. I grab 2 piece. One with chili and 1 without.

Looks like ‘Chai Tau Kuih’ but doesnt taste similiar. The one with chili sauce taste nicer. Soft texture yet orangy yellowish in the inside, and the taste is there. Would say its the best but its above average. Supporting ah pek under the hot sun, well I would say worth it.

Walk walk walk down the street, then Karen was like…woiii..I want to buy this. Icy cool like ice blended on the street with fruits flavour.

got passion fruit, mango, watermelon and other fruits available Only RM2.50 for a cup of street ice blended. Its cheap I would say.
Sip and sip under the hot sun walking this street is just no complain.
Then the shop next to the ice blended stall, the aroma of fried cempedak fly me to this stall. The Keharum’ness of the smell is just fantastic.
‘Fried Cempedak’ yit lat lat from the kuali….just cant wait to salivate it. Still so full yet hiau, so bought a piece from the ah ma. Smell nice but doesnt taste good. Kena con by the aroma. RM0.60
