Thanks to my friend Gary for drawing the attention of this Golden Potato at Kuchai Lama to me. We just had finished my favourite mala hotpot place for dinner and we were super full. He and his gf said that you die die must try this. Damm good. Both of them then went off to tapau where the truck is parking right in front of Family Mart Kuchai Lama.

Golden Potato (4)

Came back with 1 pack that it was so good. We walk towards the food truck to make another 2 pack for take away.

kuchai lama

Surprise to see that the Golden Potato truck is park at the central location of Kuchai where it is the most jam of all. Then get to see that their Potato ball is done fresh. Roll on the spot, fried on the spot. This is one of a common street snacks where you get to find in certain morning or night market.

sweet potato

it is definitely tricky and not easy to do. To get it raise to an airy ball, it needs the right ingredients and lot of energy to squeeze up the balls.

kuchai lama family mart

Golden Potato (7)

It is best advise to eat on the spot. as Potato ball is not easy to last long where the air bubble of the ball will slowly go soft and will become a flat kuih after that.

Golden Potato (6)

Here you go on a prefect ball of Golden potato ball. It is not cheap though as a pack of 8 balls for RM 5. Once a while okay la cuz it is so good.Fragrant with slight crust. Then chewy texture after 2 bite that gives you a nice goie bite. A perfect snacks for anytime.

This truck is park right at the heart of Kuchai Lama in front of Family Mart. Just realize that they have a few food truck and the recent hype is at Kota Damansara Right in front of burger King where you will see a bee line of people queing.

Last weekend when my parents was in KL, my bro suggested to try out this place Baan Thai 2 Seafood Restaurant at Kuchai Lama as he mention that everytime he drove past, it is packed with people.

Baan Thai 2 (1)

Then we thought that to reach there at 6.15pm for early dinner to avoid massive queue. To my surprise, when we reached, there was already a bee line waiting to hit in and the restaurant is packed. By logic it could not be this good that less than 15 minutes there is this massive queue. Asked the counter guy he mention OPERATING TIME is from 12pm – 5am (NON-STOP). It just wow me for such an operating time.

Baan Thai 2 (2)

Baan Thai 2 (3)

This is the scene of 6.15pm. As we left at 7.30pm, the queue is even longer.

Baan Thai 2 (4)

Certainly this place is base on Feng Sui as the fountain is flowing in not out.

Baan Thai 2 (5)

Quite a huge seating space and separated into 4-5 pax seating area in the middle and big round table for bigger guest crowd at the side. Quite cooling for such a place with its automated big fan.

Baan Thai 2 (6)

Food that we order and I never expect the dish to be out at lightning fast speed. Upon we place order and for all the food to serve out is less than 10-15 minutes. For a full house crowd, I am certainly impress on this.

Baan Thai 2 (7)

BBQ Pork Stick @ RM 4 per stick. Turns out to be better than what I expected. Caramelize, soft and juicy.

Baan Thai 2 (8)

Baan Thai 2 (9)

Stir Fried Asparagus @ RM 20

Baan Thai 2 (10)

Steamed fish with Spicy Lime @ RM 45. Quite big for it size, sourish enough and the heat of spicy hits you at the end. Just perfect. Fish meat is fresh too.

Baan Thai 2 (11)

I guess many of you will love the tomyum. Not your usual ordinary as I think it is quite near to the Southern Thailand style cooking method like Hatyai. A taste that all of us will enjoy for a typical tomyum. Sourish yet the spiciness is there. The more you drink, the spicier it goes. Loving it! Tomyum Pork @ RM 20

Baan Thai 2 (12)

One of the best Phad Thai that I come across. Very classic street food that fried to perfection. Noodle is springy, slightly sweet in after taste with its fish oil, fragrant wok hei and the egg covers ontop is just nice. @ RM 10

Baan Thai 2 (13)

This is quite unique for all of us. Sour Curry with Shrimp @ RM 30. It is suppose to be curries but turns out more like a soup base. Love the omelette added in it as it does have hint of salted fish and layers of pressed omelettes soack with this sourish base, would be a best combo with their rice.

My parents enjoyed it alot and I must say for the total price is about RM 190 is quite decent and surely will come back again to try others. Indeed will be one of my recommended Thai Food in KL or one of the Best Thai food in KL.

Canton Kitchen 老招牌 at Happy Garden is one of a famous dai chow in this neigbhourhood. Pass by a few times and it is constantly quite pack. My bro and his in laws always dine in this place.

Canton Kitchen (1)

Decor is quite classic too as the whole place is set up like Hong Kong in the 80’s. Big family room is like operating a business shop from the shop visual. A few set up props area for picture purpose too.

A simple veggie dish that friend quite good. Four Types of Beans @ RM 22 (big)

Canton Kitchen (6)

Steam egg with century egg. A simple dish that surely satisfy as the core ingredient will be the soy sauce.

Canton Kitchen (7)

Claypot Pork with Salted Fish @ RM 20. Serve in a pippin claypot with slices of pork belly that is not over cook, yet salted fish does add fragrant into it. slightly Caramelize.

Canton Kitchen (8)

Curry Fish Head @ RM 28. For Dai Chow, always good to have one curry gravy dishes. Not too coconut milk flavour, yet it does goes well with white rice. Fish head is also fresh.

Canton Kitchen (9)

Kampung Chicken with Chinese Wine @ RM 23 (small) – A pot that is punch with balance of Chinese wine flavour. A sip that will make your tummy warm as a combination of ginger and Chinese wine. Indeed a great pot.

Canton Kitchen (11)

Signature taufupork with nice pork. It is like yong taufu, but their soup base stock is indeed the core taste of it. Pack with flavour as the tofupok absorb it.

Canton Kitchen (12)

Looking for a place of dai chow with deceent price in Kuchai Lama or Happy Garden, this place is indeed worth to explore. A place with air corn and family friendly, as my brother tend to choose place with aircon for his kids. Indoor carpark or outdoor carpark is just right outside the restaurant.

our bill for 6 pax is around RM 170. Not too bad

Vietnamese Spring Roll Tempura Staring off with a simple roll that goes well with their house white wine, brings the out the freshness flavour of fried prawns and the special sauce from chef that infuse with fish sauce from Vietnam. The saltiness is just what it need to balance out the wine. Very interesting profile combination and after taste.

C Chateau (15.1)

Quite a unique combination which is The Massive Belly @ RM 40 Chinese Style Pork Belly, Onsen Egg, Black Rice (steamed)

This is quite unique as, it is a twist of our pork belly rice. Replacement of white rice to black steam rice and fried egg to onsen egg. Love the pork belly as the layers of fats and lean meat is quite balance. Pair it with black rice is indeed quite fragrant that give you the hint of salty fragrant.  Pork collar is done just right, go with their house red wine is indeed a perfect combination. One of the dish to aim for.

C Chateau (16)

C Chateau (14)

Kuchai Lama seem like an upcoming place for China cuisine with a few shop serve pretty good China food. Recently went back again to CQB China Cusine to try out their CQB ChongQing SiChuan Spicy Steamboat. You can find many diners in here are from China as the authenticity is pretty much on par with the one in China.

CQB (1)

Last visit, we had their dry sze chuan pot and it turns out to be very good. After finish the dry version, they will add in their soup base and turn it into hotpot version. Do prepare to queue for at least 20 – 30 minutes if you come on the peak dinner time . 7.30pm – 8.30pm.

CQB (2)

CQB (3)

Fried potato still remain one of our top dish to order whenever we are in this Sze Chuan cuisine restaurant.

CQB (4)

If you love noodle, then do order their Mi xian which is also their signature

CQB (5)

Beef slices is not to bad as it is thinly cut out.

CQB (6)

as my friend is always there for their food, so we got a complimentary duck slices from the boss.

CQB (7)

One of their signature item. Duck blood is also a must order item as it is so fresh and good! Cooking method for this is quite direct where you just put everything into the hotpot, and let it cook.

How to know if it is cook, is when the duck blood floating on the surface, that is when you can start to fish it out.

CQB (8)

Besides that, lamb slices is this shop signature. Love they gammy taste of lamb yet not too strong but nice enough.

CQB (9)

Frozen tofu is also my favourite and do beware that this tofo will soak all the soup in it sponge. AS you bite it, do beware of the bursting soup .

CQB (10)

Do not overcook the pork slices to enjoy the best texture of it. Take a slice and just swing your chopstick for about 10-15 seconds  as it is easily cooked.

CQB (11)

Soup base we order their signature, Chong Qing Malat soup and Salted Duck soup base. They do have other soup base available too.

The sichuan soup base is strong in mixture of spices and oily enough to my liking. The soup base is definately only for cooking meat as it is not drinkable.

Salted duck soup base is strong in flavour with hint of many hours cooking and it is top in my recommended soup base.

CQB (12)

CQB (14)

There you go on the cooked duck blood. Just awesome! Also my quick cook of pork slices.

CQB (15)

Currently this CQB steamboat or CQB Sichuan steamboat is one of my favourite place. Fresh ingredients, and soup base is both on my liking side. Price is not too expensive too.
