How many of you are a frequent diners at Northen Beach Cafe? If you do, I am pretty sure you guys know this little stall called La France tug in the middle of the coffee shop, that serve nice French Food. Well, over the time they have gain their reputation and now they have grown by moving to a new premises since last year to this heritage front corner unit behind Northam Hotel.

La France (1)

By operating on the corner unit of the junction, its pretty hard not to miss this beutified outlet with huge trees located right at the outlet. Ample parking around the area especially you can park opposite with RM2 per entry car park instead of taking risk to be park at the road side and got fine from the MPPP.

La France (2)

Actually this place is own by my best friend’s sister and we have decided to dine there over the weekend for lunch, since they had been serving pretty good food previously, most of their recepi is design by themselves and head more towards homecook style. Like the ambiance of the cafe, with a bit of contemporary style yet the overall cafe look and feel is there.

La France (3)

If you are a smoker, you can be seated outside too, but cause of our hot weather, I prefer to stay in. 😀

La France (4)

As you walked towards back, they have like a mini bar stool garden concept which is nice to be seated at night. Cozy place . .

La France (5)

To kick start with our late Brunch, so a coffee is a must for some of us and Cafe Latte being serve and by looking at the smooth froth, know that it would be a great coffee.

La France (6)

Iced Latte was being order next, as best to order less ice, if not it will dilute the taste of it

La France (7)

Love my simple cup of Ice Lemon tea, with strong flavour of tea and hint of sourish lemon at the end.

La France (8)

We do not know what we are ordering as we have ask my friend’s sister to serve us what is the best. 😀

I think this would be Albacore (French Croissant with Tuna, Cheeze and salad). Upon serving, I thought  – oh no~ why is my croissant is burnt on the top, thought it would not have made my day, but to my surprise it turns out to be super tasty with the style of it and the cheeze and tuna are perfectly match and I before I manage to cut into 3 pieces, it was instantly gone!

La France (11)

Jambon BeurreFrench Croissant with Ham, butter and Salad

Another toast delight that make our day with ham carefully friend just a bit and inserted in between the bread.

La France (9)

Next up is Croque Madame (Ham & Cheeze with Egg) in Ciabatta bread. Finely toasted which it is very simple yet just delicious.

La France (10)

The super star of the day is this  Pork Sausage in Cabiatta bread (don really know what is the actual name) that apparently only serve during dinner time! Pork sausage is just wonderfully friend and aroma ooze out from the sausage is just irresistible. – highly Recommended!

La France (12)

Aglio Olio with Extra Virgin Olive Oil @ RM9.00 is a very simple dish with lots of olive oil, olives and freshly cut tomato to cook along. Spegetthi is al dante and that Tatt whack half portion of it and left a bit for us to share! Pretty good too. .

Overall, this shop certainly serve pretty good toast if you are looking on healthy options. Other range like Speghetti as my thought, if they can cook a normal Aglio Olio tasty the rest should not be a problem!  Food price is pretty affordable which is not overly price.

Service wise I have no comment cuz its different for all of us and what I have been told and read thru other blogs, you might just received it uniquely. 🙂

Highly Recommended place~

A new outlet had surface in Jaya One recently with more like a bar heading towards the night, as I often walk thru their premises daily till I come across they do sell Set Lunch and decided to give it a try . .Many of us are unaware of this location as this outlet as BarCode is located directly above Starbucks as there is a small door inbetween Starbucks and Ducking to lead up to this outlet.

[Close down since 2014]

NED_5408

This place would be quite a nice place for after work as they played R&B music or hits top 40’s and over the weekend the crowd is not bad.

NED_5407

One of the set back for lunch on this place is you have to sit on the bar table, as the staff are very accomodative, they can shift outside table to inside upon request as it would be great for many customers.

NED_5498

Bangers and Mash as the mash potato is super good, soft and nice yet I do not mind to have the whole mash myself.

NED_5503

The star among the choices are this Lamb Chop, well marinated, and the sauce pair very well with the marination and there is abit of lamb taste as I prefer it to be. – Recommended!

NED_5502

Chicken Parmigiana fried along with bread crumbs and cheeze on top.

NED_5511

Another dish that I often order is this Spaghetti that prepared well with a bit sourish tomato, cheeze sprinkle and very generous with the amount of sausages given.

Their set lunch are very reasonable with the huge portion they are serving as its available from RM11.90-RM18.90 that comes along with a glass of Ice – Lemon Tea.

An island up in the north, which is rich with heritage and famous for its food, who does not know this island Penang? Well, one thing cannot be denied that, after a few areas have got awarded as UNESCO heritage area. . tourism industry had push up to another level, with a mark on the map by knowing its one of heritage spot! Nostalgie Cafe

[UPdate: No Longer in Operation]

Nostalgie (1)

Good thing is this heritage area had attracted many tourist and many pre-wedding photoshoot had taken place with amazing work from many photographers along with many new cafe’s and boutique hotel bustling up around the area, one of the most recent place we found is this little family operate cafe, Nostalgie Cafe that stood alone in Steward Lane, which is just directly across Muntri Street.

Nostalgie (2)

All the operates in the area have their very own catchy name, not to be surprise that Nostalgie actually come by from French which evolve from the word Nostalgia with the meaning of yearning for the past. As this place is know with its rich heritage, therefore this word been chosen that preserve the whole building outlook and do with a bit more touch up to bring back the look and feel of the place.

Nostalgie (3)

Its like many cafe around the area and every cafe have their very own style preserving the whole building, and I must say this outlet is one of my favourite, as they did it with different style. A bit of art, antique which is a combination of east and west combination. Why is that so? Below is running operate cafe and upstairs is a boutique hotel which expected to be complete by Febuary 2012 and there are already people book the place. I got a chance to preview the place and its nice without completion yet. 😀

Back to my question, why is that so and with following pictures you will understand. . .

Nostalgie (4)

The cafe is operated with chinese antique where the family really put in efford and import it back from China on a certain furniture. .

Nostalgie (5)

This is the running cafe area . ..

Nostalgie (6)

and this is what I mean a touch from the West with classic art paintings been put up on the wall . .

Nostalgie (7)

Nostalgie (8)

Nostalgie (9)

Nostalgie (10)

A glimpse for the room upstairs .. . 😉

Nostalgie (11)

Nostalgie (12)

Right in the middle, they have a mini garden  . ..

Nostalgie (13)

Nostalgie (14)

and this is how people enjoying the place, a classic touch with a bit of simple contemporary design to make it very comfortable to chill for a morning. They are just a very friendly couple~

Nostalgie (15)

As the cafe are moving forward, soon to be they will have many drinks to be introduce into the menu which is coming soon~

Nostalgie (16)

On a hot sunny day, you would not want to miss this 2 drinks which is Ice Lemon Tea @ RM 5 & Cranberry Longan @ RM 9. Which is really a thirst quencher.

Nostalgie (17)

If you are a Lime drink lover, try not to miss this as not many places can serve nice Lime Juice drink and the colour and tone of the drink already tell, made fresh~

Nostalgie (19)

The menu is pretty simple as the have spaghetti, pizza and sandwich, the rest are drinks~ Food range are more like Italian homecook!

Nostalgie (23)

A simple dish to start off with Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Prawns @ RM 24, taste is light with olive oil and well coated along the spaghetti,  sprinkle upon some cheese powder on top that serve along with two huge prawns. . .

Nostalgie (21)

a meal that cook with their very own homemade sauce is Spaghetti Marinara with Prawns @ RM 24,   sourish in taste with the tomato sauce well coated on which is not too dry and by the time you finish the whole plate, there are little sauce that left on the plate that makes it look like you have lick it off~

Nostalgie (22)

Fettuccine Carbonara with Turkey Bacon @ RM 21, as not many people can take too creamy taste as that’s one of my favourite, a bit salty with bacon that cook along, and enough cream to make it as I prefer.

Nostalgie (24)

The star of the day is this Chicken and Feta Cheese Pizza @ RM 28, a home made base dough which you can see the chef roll in the kitchem that comes with the crust not too thick nor thin which is just perfect! Rich in feta cheeze taste and the flavor is a bit more strong, and a bit sourish with the cherry tomato that makes it blend so well. – Recommended!

Nostalgie (25)

A pizza which is generous with prawns is this Prawns and Chili Pizza @ RM30  that you can see each slice of pizza comes with decent size of prawns. This pizza bends towards more on sourish size because of its tomato base~

Nostalgie (26)

Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich @ RM 14

Nostalgie (27)

Sandwich lovers, you must not miss this with its fluffy homemade bread daily on a very limited bread available that once sold out, you have to come back the next day. I love the bread so much and the chicken is perfectly grill that make it a great sandwich to start your day off. – Recommended!

Nostalgie (28)

Under desert menu, this is the supper star or known as the cafe’s signature cake, Carrot Cake @ RM 12. This cake is also made fresh daily and one of the best seller in the outlet. Often get sold out over the day very fast, and some of the customers even come a few rounds for this cake. The cake is huge enough to feed for 2 person and if you are a cake lover like me, once slice is just perfecT! Its rich in ingredient, that every bite is filled with walnut and add on with a bit of raisins to sweeten it a bit. The cake is not too compact yet its a bit bouncy when you bite on it. A cake that I prefer, soft and not too sweet~

Nostalgie (29)

Chocolate Brownies with Walnuts are a bit on the bitter side because of the chocolate used, and some of you might not used to it. They are not dry, very moist and with chocolate sauce added on makes it even better. RM10

Nostalgie (30)

White Coffee @ RM 5 and Black Coffee @ RM 4

If you are coming to this outlet for dining, my recommendations is do not miss their pizza and sandwich, as their spaghetti taste are more towards authentic taste, therefore some people might find the taste a bit bland or sourish.

Its a good thing to see another cafe pop up around the area, one set back of this outlet is there are very limited parking space around the area, as you can park in the small lane oppsite the cafe or you have to park nearby area with just about 3 minutes walk by strolling down this rich heritage area`

Now they also have special Christmas Menu in da house check it out and make your reservations:

A few years back where some areas in Penang had been crown with UNESCO’s World Heritage Cities Program, a few area started to grow with small little cafe’s and backapackers inn are mushrooming arond the area (Ryokan Chic Hostel is one of the latest addition to the area) to cater local and foreign tourist which I am hoping it will become a mini like Jonker street in the future, which Penang is lacking of. . .. .One of the latest discovery that was told by my friend to ask me to check it out was this little cafe smack at the junction of New Lane and Muntri street, bye the name of  ‘Behind 50’ . .

50 (1)

The shop is very obvious that it is painted in bright yellow colour walls which is only the single story unit. . .

50 (2)

50 (3)

The whole place is decorated with very rustic feeling, mostly with their own creative design to ensure that the cafe is as heritage as possible . .

50 (4)

50 (5)

with nice photo’s on the wall as deco . .

50 (6)

50 (7)

even use this old classic player to play music for its cafe ..

50 (8)

50 (9)

50 (10)

50 (11)

The cafe is certainly not big that can host only a few tables and mini bar seating area

50 (12)_resize

for a cafe like that to offer that range of food is quite good ..

50 (13)

50 (14)

Like the Ice-Lemon Tea which is very homemade style and under this hot weather, this is just what I need. . . Refreshing sip’s .. .

50 (15)

Mushroom soup wasnt on par with what I expected, as I find it too creamy and thick, a bit blend in taste too . .

50 (16)

I guess this would sure be a another great place to hang out with friends with their drinks are certainly up for grab, and filled with modernize pre-war style deco and the pricing of it is sure quite reasonable  . . . .For food wise I havent really try out on it, and no comment. . .as on the day I went, there were only one guy working which is ‘pau ka liau’ the whole scene  . . . So do have patient that they are lack of man power if you plan to visit here. .

I used to travel to Jakarta quite frequent and did event stay there for a month leisure and business few years back. Since then my Indonesian friend brought me tried out a lot of their local street food and it just taste good. Since then I am back here, the only shop that taste near to that country so far that I have tried is Waroeng Penyet and Ole Ole Bali but now, there is another restaurant called Little Warong Jakarta that newly open about a month ago that cater authentic Jakarta food that more towards Javanese.

[no longer in operation]

Jakarta

The restaurant is located nearby KFC and it wasn’t hard to find afterall..

Jakarta (2)

The whole place was decorated in more like a old classic kopitiam style as according to Remus, most of the shop that operate good food is have something similiar to this kind of ambiance. The wall are covered with many pictures of Jakarta from olden to modern days.

Some indonesian snacks.

One of the day, where we were pretty bored with our canteen food, so we decided to go out hunting for lunch again, that had landed me one of the newly open IOI mall new wing. It has been ages since I last step into this mall, but as it was not far from my company and one of my colleagues mention that the set lunch in Breeks Cafe is quite worth it and landed us here for the food. They do have one branch in Penang at Gurney Plaza but their menu had never temp me try it out.

Breeks

Breeks (2)

Their set lunch comes with types of drinks to choose from and we order the whole range of it. ‘Ices Strawberry Lemon, Iced Passion Fruit Tea, Iced Lemon Tea’

Breeks (3)

with ‘Soup of the Day’ tasted so so. .

Breeks (4)

‘Mozzie Balls’ were pretty good, with mozarella cheeze in it. RM6.90

Breeks (5)

Next was the serving of ‘Chicken Patties Melted’ with cheeze covers on top and dip with the sauce given, taste not bad but it feels more like ramlee burger syle. RM19.90

Breeks (7)

‘Grilled Chicken Chop’ at least it taste a bit better that its fried with some marinated herbs taste. RM19.90

Breeks (8)

‘Grilled Chicken Chop’ RM19.90

Breeks (9)

‘Lasagna’ was not up to my expectation as I find the layer in between the filling is thick and flour taste is there.
