Few weeks back while waiting for movie, saw this new ice cream stall located infront of GSC 1-Utama ticketing counter with many people flocking around. Then only realise its something new. Just Like It

[No longer operate]

When I was travelling last year to Sydney, I did saw this concept of ice-cream and thought it would be very interesting or something new to me. With all the dry ice type smoke flowing out from the stand mixer. Just Like It! Ice cream is another revolutionary of F&B.

The concept of the outlet is rather unique and impressive with chilling nitrogen gas, all the staff looks like lab technicians with lab coats, beakers, volumetric flasks….

just like it (3)

Well, if they are not ice cream then what are those? hmmm . .. Their offering of flavours are pretty unique with New Popcorn, Durian Durian, chocolate flakes or as above the menu you can see.

just like it (4)

Can see that all the flavours are pretty concentrated.

and the add ons that we choose to blend along ..

Their process of ice-cream is rather interesting by pouring their N2 liquid and also the puree that they have.. .

This is how interesting as it would get with so much smoke from the mixer ..

just like it (11)

After a while it became into solid form and tadaa.. our ice cream is made. . .

just like it (12)

The process continues if you order other flavour, as they wash the item and prepare for next.

Tried both their Mango and Durian durian. The texture is smooth and taste of both flavour is not bad. Durian have the strong durian taste as they do add on little durian meat in it, yet I still find that overall mouthful taste, flavour and smoothness of it, still Sydney much better.

Nevertheless, its still one of the new concept in town that did make a buzz out of it. . Price at RM 7.90 – RM11.90. Still worth for you to try it out at least once, to see what is the difference between the rest of the ice cream.

Right after our dinner, few doors away is this yogurt stall is super pack with humans, as when I first arrive it had already attracted my attention to join along the crowd to try out what is so special about this Moochi Frozen Yoghurt  place. My friend had never understand what is the whole buzz about whenever he come and dine at his favorite Korean BBQ food at Bassim.

Moochi (1)

As a tourist, of course I would keen to try on any food. During winter time its quite a good crowd despite yogurt is cold and many people are still keen to get brain freeze. I jump onto the queue and my friend scolded me, because of you I only try out. Normally I wouldn’t care much, as anything that I have to queue, they wont enjoy my business.

Moochi (2)

Moochi (3)

Moochi (4)

I wonder how did this brand came about. . .

Moochi (5)

They even have their own drinks.

Moochi (6)

A simple menu that the have and their price is very reasonable.

Moochi (8)

Moochi comes in different sizes and if you are a big eater then MASSIVE  would be your choice. They have 4 flavours to choose from. Original, Green Tea, Pomegranate and Watermelon

Moochi (7)

Right after the order you can choose your toppings. Ranging to about 21 toppings selection.

Moochi (10)

Then pick up a bottle of Pomegranate peach passion white tea @ AUD 4.50. Slightly sourish, and strong hint of passion fruit taste and we find it slightly sweet to our liking. Its good though if they can tone down the sweetness 20% then would have been perfect.

Moochi (11)

Jeng Jeng Jeng, I choose a small cup to go after as we are super stuff right after super heavy dinner. Chose Original with 3 toppings, @ AUD 5.40 with mango, lychee follow by unique flavor that for the first time I have come accross is Watermelon with another 2 topings, oreo and honeydew (if i am not mistaken). Watermelon is a better selection.

Texture of the yogurt is smooth, aromatic and slightly more creamy that I like it. After putting into your mouth, it melts slight faster and upon so many brands that is in Malaysia, this brand definitely stood up.

One of the latest trend I heard my Penang friend talking about in our Watsapp chatroom is Hui Lau Shan which is one of a famous Hong Kong Desert had finally landed in Penang, being located inside Gurney Plaza which is one of the prime spot in Penang to start off with.  Whenvever I travel to in Hong Kong last time, I will make myself not to miss out this great desert. First stop after landed is Hui Lau Shan and finally make its mark into the island.

Hui Lau Shan (1)

Before Penang, it hit KL shore where this franchise open its very first outlet in 1-Utama and we instantly went to try out. (click here). In Penang its much different compare to the KL one’s as the outlet is bigger, more spacious and there is a line we have to queue which is longer than KL.

Hui Lau Shan (2)

Hui Lau Shan in Penang just open its door for less than a month and it had been well received by the locals.

Hui Lau Shan (3)

These are the few that I will always order or the recommended. . . Fresh Mango Mochi @ RM 4.90 for 3 pieces

Hui Lau Shan (4)

Mango with Pamelo

Hui Lau Shan (5)

Mango Icey Sweetie Ball @ RM 11.90

Apparently, I find that Penang version is must tasty than the ones in KL, in terms of mango and texture of it. Wonder is it the same owner? For more other flavours click here

If you have not tried this superb Mango desert, do drop by . .Recommended!

Over quite sometime there are many Hong Kong dessert that open and close down to the extend some of it are very good ones and I often wonder how come no one took this franchise Hoi Lau Shan that serve superb mango dessert in many version. Guess what?!! Finally one of the best Hong Kong dessert Hoi Lau Shan had put a step in Malaysia and 1-Utama being their first outlet.

I am very sure many of you that travel to Hong Kong will be familiar with this brand as its nearly available every where, something like our bubble tea Taiwan version. I rarely miss this dessert as everytime I went to Hong Kong upon arrival at the air port I would wallop 2-3 cups of these dessert before I take my public transportation. If you are a dessert lover then you would not want to miss it~

Hoi Lau San (1)

Now most Malaysians need not travel to Hong Kong to take this dessert anymore as it available here now, located at first floor in front of Isetan at 1-Utama Old Wing. Its just a few days old and well, I just cant resist the temptation and faster came here to satisfy my crave hoping that what is serve here would be something similar to the ones in Hong Kong. Besides that, if I remember correctly those branches in Hong Kong do not have the word healthy dessert…hmmm , I guess here they serve healthy ones?

As I was sitting and happily place my order, many of passerby checking out their menu and many are skeptical on their dessert. .

Hoi Lau San (2)

Standing there and stare blankly then walk away.

Hoi Lau San (3)

Its more like a kiosk style that smack right in the middle of the new old wing and its pretty hard for you to miss this huge orange sign board.

Hoi Lau San (4)

Menu are the same compare to the ones in Hong Kong as I have just return there 2 months ago . .

Hoi Lau San (5)

As I browse thru the menu one thing that caught my attention so hard is the pricing here, I would that that it cost a bomb to order and didnt know that it is so cheap here. A simple bowl of these dessert cost from RM9.90 onwards? OMG! In Hong Kong the ones that I usually order cost about HKD 48 = RM 24 per bowl here and I can say its at least 55% cheaper here!!!

Hoi Lau San (6)

Staring at the menu, I happily ordered all my favourites and to my disappointment one of my favorite which is with pamelo is out of stock as according to their waiter, he apologize as they are just a few days old and will restock very soon.

Hoi Lau San (6.3)

Mango Juice & Mango Cube – Mango Jelly @ RM 7.90. I usually had 2 cups of these that filled with thick freshly blend mango, top with mango cubes and jelly at the bottom, that makes me slurppp non stop of this. Surprisingly, the taste is like 80% similiar just that its not so sweet compare to the ones in Hong Kong.

Hoi Lau San (7)

Mango Icey Sweetie Ball @ RM 11.90 with freshly blend mango puree, mango cubes and glutinous ball. As near to Hong Kong version itself the glutinous ball is near to pretty hard not like our Malaysian version which is soft and chewy. Some of you might not like it.

Hoi Lau San (8)

One of the thing that you must not miss is this Fresh Mango Mochi @ RM 4.90 for 3 pieces

Hoi Lau San (9.0)

Skin over here is a bit thick yet its still soft that is made from mango and its shove with one huge chunk of mango cubes inside and outer layer is rube with coconut. One of my favourite and for RM4.90 I what 9 of these. Satisfying!

Hoi Lau San (11)

Triple Mango Delight @ RM 9.90

Hoi Lau San (12)

Filled with mango Ice cream, mango cubes, and a layer of mango pudding. The pudding tasted a bit artificial but well, I still enjoy my dessert.

If I get to order my Mango with Pamelo, it would be a perfect order yet nevertheless it is indeed satisfying for the price we are paying.

Upon what I eat today is my recommended list and if you like try others it should be fine, but not too miss these few as I mention to start off with . .

Last round in Hong Kong me and Ken (foodpoi.com) both of us whack this dessert with similiar amount cost us about RM120 which is near whopping HKD 250 just for these dessert itself and now for tonight I pay about RM50 for this whole package! Even my malay friends that went to Hong Kong they enjoy these dessert very much and ta pau mochi back for their parents!

Definately I am coming for more with its price being offered here. Taste is 80% similiar to the ones in Hong Kong as I believe the mango is less sweet and aromatic compare to the ones in Hong Kong. Well, with the price I am paying certainly I have no complain and just to enjoy.

One of the highly recommended Hong Kong dessert now from me!

Remark: After went to this outlet a few times, find that their quality is like roller coaster, sometimes its superb, sometimes it far below par because of the mango quality they have for the day. Its rather dissapointing compare to the first day that I had it. On htis branch, do not put so much high hope yet something to look for. . .

*Updates – 2nd jan 2014 : officially their dessert quality drop from bad to worst

Bangkok trip is all about makan on my 5th day trip, after heavy dinner at one of good restaurant that Goft recommended which is Taling Pling at Central World then now we are hunting for one of the best desert around that area called Mango Tango that operated by Hong Kee according to Goft. On the way walking there, if it wasnt raining, there are night market directly opposite Central world heading to Siam square.

Mango Tango (1)

I find that the street market here sell clothing which is pretty nice as if we do not have time to shop alot in famous JJ Market (Chatuchak Market), here would be one of the good option too as you can bargain.

Mango Tango (2)

After about 5 minutes walk from Central World, here we are, as we reach our jaw drop as the place is so little and flock by so many people ready to hunt for places in the compact shop.

Mango Tango (3)

This place got famous with alot foreginers because it got feature in some international food guide in Hong Kong and Japan. There is where how they gain the popularity and branding.

Mango Tango (4)

Cannot deny that I love the concept of the shop that show’s purely they are selling desert and only desert that they are serving. They source the best mango in Thailand and its pluck fresh. A simple decoration of the outlet make it outstanding around the neighourhood area as it is very hard for you to miss the shop that is well light up.

Mango Tango (6)

Mango Tango (7)

Mango Tango (8)

I guess these are their best seller therefore put at the counter

Mango Tango (9)

We are amaze how fast this worker cut on the mango and look so pro .. . We were just drooling like a small kid looking at candy when me, Steven and Tatt saw the mango how yellowish and how sweet it is going to taste like. .

Mango Tango (5)

Annie always love to promote how  god the food is and this round with menu, I guess she will be a good food ambassor. Too bad I was not allow to post her eating pose. Saliva will drop just by seeing her tam chiak face (the way she eat). The cute menu also in Mango shape and the have selected menu for you to choose from and we have let the desicion for Goft again to go for our menu.

Mango Tango (10)

Getting ready with my spoon to attack on the desert yet the funny thing is that I have heard An Apple a day keeps the doc away and now, its A Mango a Day keeps the Doc away . .kekeke I sure do not mind by having lots of sweet aromatic mango. . .

As we were super full from dinner, and now its very hard for us to resist to say NO to deserts after looking on how the way they do it and die die also must try quite few. Our initial plan was order 2-3 to share and the end up result every one having one portion. 😀

Mango Tango (11)

Mango Sticky rice is just so opposite version of what we have in Malaysia and the servings there as I meant, that in Malaysia our sticky rice is a huge chink of it with a few slices of mango and in Mango Tango is a huge big ass mango with small scoop of sticky rice. Its served warm, soft and very aromatic with their superb coconut milk as we love it so much on the taste and pair with the smooth sweet mango is just perfect.

Mango Tango (12)

Mango Tango (13)

Do not know what to choose get Mango Tango Signature dessert and consists of a half nicely cut mango in cubes, with a side of mango pudding topped with whipped cream and a ball of mango sorbet. A perfect combination to try all version in their outlet.

Mango Tango (14)

Mango Delight comes with a mixture of fruits base, kiwi, mango, honeydew, aloe verra, watermelon and some other ingredient, and all the fruits are fresh and sweet.

Mango Tango (15)

Mango Smothie is super good, very smooth, easy to drink yet the mango is so aromatic like drinking pure mango juice.

Mango Tango (16)

Mango Tango (17)

all of us having great time with our desert and this is one of Goft’s fav drink .

Mango Tango (18)

One thing I regreted that I did not buy enough is their Sensational Mango Tango Desert – Preserved Fruits. One of the best I have eaten so far as they sell it in lose pack or economy pack that comes in a pack of 3 boxes. As for  now, whenver my friend go to Bangkok, I will try to ask them tapau this back for me .. Hehehe .. Once you eat it, its addictive even my parents finish this whole pack on the night itself.

Dry, not too sweet, as its like eating pure mango in another version. Recommended to get at least 2 pack.

Mango Tango (19)

Here we are, our desert hunter and Collen always busy with her food, that is how tam chiak she is whenever taking pictures. 😀

As for last say, any order in the menu, surely will satisfy your crave on desert as all also pretty good!

If you do go Bangkok in the area of famous shopping districk Central World that area, please do not miss this super good yet delicious Mango desert, as you would not regret even though its a bit hard to find as you have to walk thru some alley turn right turn left.

Highly Recommended if you love or do not like desert.!!!!

They have 4 branch in Bangkok check out their website for other branches location : www.mymangotango.com

I just wish  Malaysia have such a good desert shop. The set back is our mango is so exp and import in even worst. I guess I shall keep my mango crave till next holiday . . 🙁

One thing I love about Bangkok is not only their transformation on public transportation that enable us to access conveniently to many places is that they have all this pedestrian walkway connection all malls and many other main spots as even it rain on that day, we are still able to walk to quite a distance to reach our destination instead of stuck in the mall itself or have to take cab while we are heading to this Taling Pling Thai Gastro Cafe.

I really wish that my country have this that can make the business grow also. Something  similar like Hong Kong. All acess to many malls and public transportation with shades.

t (1)

Okay, after we head a very heavy lunch steamboat buffet (click here) we walk and shop for the last round before we are heading back as Day 3 we had shop quite alot too (click here on shopping destination in Bangkok)

t (2)

As night proceeds, went back to hotel, shower and came back to this area again as to meet Goft for dinner. She wanted to bring us to another restaurant which is her favourite that often she brings her client to dine there, one of the reason is that after the dinner she wants to bring us to eat the best Mango desert and also to new sky bar around the area.

t (3)

Shopping mall area around Central World that easily have at least 3-5 malls around that area.

t (4)

As evening process when we came back to the same area, we were a bit suprise as now it is packed with street hawker as right outside this nice mall, there’s lots of food there you can hunt for. .

To all the girls, this is a must go Shop NARAYA, which is a famous local brand to alot of foreigners on its design and the main attraction was the price is CHEAP! some girls shop and end up with a few basket. That’s Crazy!! No doubt that the design is nice that suits all ages and its cheap.

Its a thick menu book and best of all, all dish comes with pictures even though IF its written in Thai I have no problem on pointing. Of course the menu do have english translation. Price is very reasonable or on the cheap side for this kind of ambiance.

We do not know what we have order again Goft is incharge of our food menu again.

Been walking all day long, all of us need coconut juice to cool our body down . .

This is one of a must order dish. Do not really know what its called but it have well balance taste.

t (21)

This tomyam is towards more sourish and the fiery red is just a colour. . .

t (22)

Tomyam is our favourite as its spicy, a bit milky taste, something more unique to us.

t (23)

Morning Glory Salad – stir fried vege along with prawns. Perfect to go along with rice, as some veggie had been deep fried then top on top.

t (24)

Spicy Squid, chewy and its fresh, sour at the end and fine chopped chili add the extra spice and minty taste .

Overall the food is good, as what Goft mention. Quality is there and prompt service from the crew. Price are very reasonable and if you would want some where clean with nice ambiance to enjoy pretty good Thai cuisine, no doubht that this is one of the restaurant to recommend.

On the down side is, don bother to try on the deserts or maybe I just had tried better ones before during my stay here.

Apologize on the lack of dish name and price.
