One of the thing that I have been asking around from my Malay friends and colleague are which pasar ramahdan is recommended to go? There are a few actually with like of Kelana Jaya, Taman Tun Dr.Ismail (TTDI) Pasar Ramahdan 2010 and one of the most highly recommended was Taman Melawati but then for this round, we, me, Ken and Andrew decided to make our first street photography and food hunt at TTDI.

We reach the place pretty early around 3pm and there are still some stalls setting up but most of them are already selling like hot cakes. One of the reason that the residence are unhappy about this about the traffic is cannot deny that this TTDI Pasar Ramahdan is quite impressive with its size of the bazaar is big, circulating the main middle area of shop houses.  It will be start off with the stretch in front Popeye towards KFC and to Shell end, more like a retangular shape. You Imagine yourself how big it is.

this post will be more on pictures on this lovely Pasar Ramahdan.

Selling pretty fast.

Ipoh is also known as one of the food hunting ground where you can see a lot of write-ups on online media or local newspaper. We were stop by in Ipoh during our road trip up to Hatyai, that we purposely start our journey early to stop by here for their famous tim sum. For the first time being here and much review readed regarding on this stall, yet Jonathan being at his hometown lead us they way to this Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum.

Ming court

This is one of a famous restaurant to dine in the morning and we have to look out for table ‘Siapa cepat, dia dapat’ kind of thing.

Ming court (2)

The business is so good that some of them do not mind share tables with strangers.

Ming court (3)
As we were very hungry, and we just ordered most of the tim sum we see that passing by on cart, carried by the waitress or randomly ordered.

On that morning, all of us were disappointed with the quality of the tim sum, most of the tim sum we did not finish till we got no appetite to continue and Jonathan also said that it is very different from what he had last round and it is not cheap, for a simple order like that it cost us RM100 which I find it VERY expensive! I guess next round I would want to try out the opposite tim sum, which is also another famous restaurant.

We were still hungry and looking for food to eat, and found this uncle selling ice cream potong that so many auntie ta pau it, then we decide to join the crowd also.

We tried out ‘Cendol’ for RM1.20 a stick that have ‘Red Bean’, ‘Durian’ and ‘Mango’ (if not mistaken). It would not taste exactly the same as the Ice Cendol we eat but with a strong taste of gula melaka that overpower the taste of it.

This uncle had been selling ice cream for many years since his dad, as in the morning he would be selling in between the dim sum restaurant till 11am then he will move to another area to sell.

After this place, we head to another shop for second round of breakfast~

Of course after lunch, I will always make noise for desert. Choe told me, don worry, its just directly opposite. By reading in Melaka also famous for Durian Chendol, she told me that this is the best place to go.

Being weekend, every where is just damm packed with people.

In the menu, surely its my type of preference filled with desert.

The rest waiting and camwhore abit. Then the next shelf to us is the place selling sweets and local snacks. Ended up Kenji bought a big Lolipop.

‘Durian Springy Dumpling’ caught my attention. I think whatever with durian I am just going to order. RM2.50

Cold skin and soft texture had make you bite like cotton and its not durian purree its like durian kuih inside. To me its like eating durian Kuih in cold version.

‘Refreshing Essence Lime with Liquorice’ RM3.90. By the name is self already proof its a refresing drink. Totally recommend this for such a hot weather.

Jeng Jeng Jeng…here comes one of the local favourites enjoyed by alot of people. ‘Durian Cendol’ RM5.80. Its refreshing soft icy that will just melt in your mouth and the best thing is the keharum’ness of the durian they added in is just veli good ah. Abit bitter in taste that goes along with the sweetness of it. Just perfect.

We ordered another bowl and told Jonathan that we wanted to add more durian in there, then he told us they say cannot add. DOWN!

Then I went out, saw this this stall looks quite tempting and buy 1 piece only. The promotion is buy 5 free 1 if not mistaken. Since I cannot finish and just wanted to try out 1 only.

The fish is call ‘Amoy’. hahha… means girl?

Insert with kaya, and its best to eat while its warm. RM1.50 per piece.

Camwhore session, have you ever seen a ghost licking lolipop… ?

tu dia… Karen looks like a ghost in this pic. 😛

Me trying my best~

This stall is located opposite the Chicken rice ball.

If you are looking for other sweets to buy, this is the shop to go. Directly inside the cafe.
A great place for the desert.

When we reach this place, it was already evening. Inside our stomach already pre-occupy with Satay Celup that we thought eating abit ended up taking and taking from the fridge. Now a bit regret.

Choe did work here for a period of time then she mention that this is a good and famous place by the sea. I had some imaginations in my mind as she said that the seafood here not cheap. So given a pre-picture of pricing, thought that it would be a ideal place with restaurant by the sea.

Mana tau when I reach the place, I was like Down! Its’a food court feel. Even the one is Esplanade, Penang is even better with the environment.

Maybe I just came back from Macau not that long, as my concept of Portugese Settlement is something like the concept there. Never thought that it would be totally different.

There are 10 stalls of seafood here. Wonder how they do business. Mini Jakarta..that’s what i thought off. Then Choe said that this stall served better seafood as the first stall is popular with the tourist. Then what I heard the story was very fuuny. If you are a DAP or any opposition supporter they will have conflict with that stall owner. Then I was like har..like dat also can ah..thought is 1 Malaysia?hrmmm…..

The order of ‘Kangkung Belacan’ cost RM 6 taste not any much different from what we eat in any part or any corner.

‘Fried Sotong’ seems to be a bit dissapointed with too much flour is like eat flour more than sotong. RM10

‘Butter Prawns’ if not mistaken cost RM15. Lack of the taste of butter and the kick in it. Its at acceptable level.

‘Lala’ is something slightly better in taste wise, covers with ginger and the chili spicy taste. At least make our taste bud working. RM10

Never a big fan of ‘Bendi’. Pale in taste, prawns nearly not fresh yet okay loh. RM6

Among all the dish, ‘Black Papper Crab’ is the best of all. Fresh slices of crab meat, pangang with black peper powder and some springkles. RM32

In the end, we were quite full from the previous satay. Havent come to a stage with the satisfaction feeling yet.
When we about to go off, here is the amout of crowd that pour into the place. Every of the each individual stall got their very own crowd. By walking around the area, still feel that the food presentation of STall 1 looks better and tempting. Next round I susppose.
This is the stall that located next to this shop.

Its a ‘Mango’ drink. Something very unique yet freshing and appetite oppener. Guess how many cups I drank. If not mistaken 3-4. Its blend with young mango, that’s how the sour flavor got juice out. Very nice. Highly Recommended by me even though you are around the area. RM2.50

Seafood wise, even the price is cheap but the food quality is above average, maybe would encourage you to try other stalls.

After checking out, and drive out of town about 20-30 minutes, this place was introduce by our friend Choe as she mention that this place serve nice seafood. The night before we had a disappointed seafood meal, hopefully and cross finger this is good.
When we arrive, I thought that this place looks kinda cool but surprisingly, we were the only guest there. Then I thought to myself that, hrmm…this place can go or not…*doubting.

An empty restaurant with we the only guest, so what kind of quality you can think of.

They have indoor and outdoor area. I was told by Choe that in the afternoon, the business is like that but during dinner time, you better get your ass there early as its sardine packed. This place is usually dine by most of the CEO and manager level people.

The food that we order, by the looks of it, it did not disappoint us, looks tempting yet delicious.

Start off our meal with ‘Duck in Kiam Chye soup’ that is totally a great start, sour that opens up your appetite with the flavor in the soup is just perfect. Walap the soup within seconds.
If I am not mistaken this is the ‘Prawn with Pineapple in Coconut Sauce’ is one of the dish that you should not miss. The not so thick in the gravy yet perfect and filled with the sweetness of the pineapple and the prawn that cook in soak in the flavor. Freshness of the prawns detected with hard texture yet juicy. RM20
Next don know what is the name of this dish, as the receipt given very cacat. Only written, prawn, veggie, chicken and this and that, only a key word.

Another good dish combination that goes along very well with rice.

The ‘scallop’ is a bit small in size but it was pan fried with the gravy topping on top, a bit sweet yet salty is just something you would enjoy.

If not mistaken, this is the ‘Nyonya Fish’ quite big in the size yet the gravy showering on it, sweet, sour and salty with a bit thick in gravy, its good. RM43
This is one of the worst dish of all, not to say that the gravy is not good. Just that the crab that they serve is totally not fresh. Fresh crab meat suppose to be in slices but this crab meat is like soft like toufu. Damm Geli. Complain to the worker, yet he keep saying that they get the grab in the aquarium and its still alive when they capture it. Then told them why is it not fresh yet they keep saying the same thing. If we were given only 1 dead crab or not fresh we understand but the problem was the whole plate is a gone case.
We told them that we are not going to pay then the waiter was like lost and sad yet we ask him to ask the chef to check on the quality and the chef is like flipping in and put back out again. its like WTF! like dat also can ah~ Since the manger is not in that day, we told him that what is the minimal that we have to pay. He mention half and I told him max RM30. That’s all. The whole plate of crab cost RM80 and paying RM30 for that dish is consider overpaid. Wish that the manager was there that day.
I have nothing against this place, the food is quite nice compare to the 1 we had yesterday. Just that dissapointed on the crab.
